we didn't think Allan Ball was gay by the way despite his voice ,and those white boots .

Roger Cross wore white boots on his Fulham debut @ CC
It stunned most of the crowd @ the time & then caused much comment (not all flattering it has to be said)

Actually Kit could do worse than get Hutch to paint his boots pink
He would then be more aware of where his feet were & also the point @ which he makes his attempt @ tackling - outside the box next time of course!

I was never a fan of white boots ,and not that keen  on Roger Cross either . But I remember  he had the white boots , they slowed hi m down a bit I reckon .

Do they make pink Copas ?

Sadly yes!! Adidas bought out a range of about 5 different colours for the last World Cup. Pink, Orange, blue, yellow and maybe another blue. Can't remember as I don't care for them. Even with the white ones they murdered the classic design. Pink? Well!!

It's a little known fact that Maurice Cook wore a pair of pink Simlam boots at Turf Moor in the early sixties. He might have expected a considerable amount of abuse from the native Lancastrians, but, what with the thick industrial smog and the smoke from 38,000 Woodbines, nobody noticed. By the time he had taken a few steps on the field the thick mud made it impossible to tell what colour boots he was wearing. When he returned to the dressing-room after the match he washed the mud off in the tin bath provided and found that the high acid content of the Burnley mud had completely dissolved his new boots so he had to revert to his traditional cast iron ones, hand forged for him by a blacksmith (or should that be colouredsmith?) in Berkhampstead.

What a ridiculous thing to complain about, it's not a fashion show?

If the demand is there I am sure they will.

Words fail me

Unbelievably over the top political correctness!! You can't say, do, comment, look or comment on anything these days without someone jumping down your throat, (not in a gay way either).

I know what you mean though, old school footballers who played for the love of the game wearing fluorescent Boots, (including pink ones)? Unheard of.

Thanks mate. It was an innocent comment about how much times have changed.

I know it was meant as an innocent post and I'm sorry if I came across aggressive but I was just trying to stick up for Rusty when he was being accused of something when he was saying the complete opposite.

Its a generation thing .Nothing to do with homophobia .Personally ,just not keen on coloured boots , Copa mundial rule !

The sensible post in this thread. Copas!!

Agree that this is the most sensible thing.  Though now a days I prefer my old Puma Kings.
Anyone can blend into the crowd.  How will you standout when it counts?

Actually Blanco , do you remember those George Best boots in the sixties ? They laced down one side and were a sort of dark purple colour ! Alan Ball wore those white boots for a while and looked really stupid (we thought ) and it then took years to catch on . It was like he was playing matches in his plimsoles ! My PE teacher would never have put up with that !!

You young boys have probably no idea what I'm talking about .

George's boots were Stylo Matchmakers which you could have in 3 different lacing designs. I think that they were black.

The first FFC player (I think) to wear coloured boots was Roger Cross who wore a white pair which were made by Patrick. This inspired me to buy a pair which I have to admit was a mistake as it made my inadequacies on a football pitch stand out even more!

its a valid question based on attitudes of the past, attitudes are different these days but some of the older generation haven't moved on, I wear pink running trainers and also a pink running top on a certain run in memory of my Nan who liked the colour.

As a 43 year old, I think I remember the Keegan boots that had a flourescent orange stripe on them, very first boot I recall not having just black and white detail. Saying that, I I were to play today (thinking about it) I'd have to plump for Puma King - black and white.

Plus I also think if you have a fancy pair of boots, you;d better be a decent player!

sadly the same applied to Roger Cross. Skilful ,but a bit slow if I  recall . Signings from brentford have never impressed me .

I don't care what colour boots anyone wears. I only like to wear black but last time I bought boots they didn't have ANY black. I saw the ref in one of the PL games yesterday wearing lovely all black boots. I don't know if all refs wear the same but I'd buy a pair.

Yes but-Fulham 2 (Cross 2) QPR 1 (FA Cup 3rd Round Replay 1971-72). Headline in local paper - "Fulham Cross Out Rangers". 43 years ago but a couple of matches that I'll never forget  I think that we were 1-0 down at HT (Tony Hazell) only for Roger's brace to win the game for us. We took the lead in the first game (my first away game) at Loftus Road with a Jimmy Conway 20 yard volley at the School End only for Terry "Henry" Mancini to equalise as Malcolm Webster flapped at a corner. Fantastic memories!

Roger Cross also hit a screamer in a 4-3 win against Cardiff at The Cottage.

He also had a very long throw.

But that is about all I can remember regarding Roger's career at FFC. As regards other players signed from Brentford, we also had Alan Mansley on loan in 1970 who, as I remember, only played one game in a 4-1 defeat at Swansea.

They were different times. I saw an article a couple of years back in BT's internal mag that showed Tony Hazel working for Openreach as an engineer. Footballers today will never have to work to supplement their income. And the song from the Roger Cross era "Roger Cross super star He scored two against QPR" to the tune of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Remember that cup tie against QPR. Wasn't that the game that Rodney Marsh kept throwing himself in the box attempting to get them a penalty ? He was like a pregnant dolphin as some bright spark near where I was standing was all to keen to point out !
If they had had pink boots then Rodney would have been wearing them !

alfie

This thread is absolutely meaningless, they wear these boots because they get paid to do it, nothing to do with being gay/wimps or anything else.

I could not give a rats ar..e what colour they put on their feet, it is more important to me what they do with them when they are on.

I was being ironic when I said that to Rusty. I know what the thread looks to infer. You're gay if you wear pink. That's not what I'm saying. Pink was traditionally a womens color though and it adds to the general perception of a modern day footballer caring more about what they look like than the football they are playing. They aren't models after all!
