Sky have said that although Hughes may take charge against Pompey there will may well be no official announcement until NEXT WEEK.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

That makes no sense. Why would they install him as manager then not make an anouncement?

Perhaps MAF isn't available and he wants to be in on the show.

Perhaps we're actually planning an awards ceremony and Sven, Jurgen, DJ etc will be there and they'll announce the winner (who MAY be Hughes) in reverse order.

Perhaps they don't have a shirt in Sparky's size and are having to import one from Korea.

Perhaps he's waiting on an offer from a bigger club. (that must be favourite)

MAF should have a one hour "Decision" special.  After 45 minutes of talk and speculation, MAF finally comes out and, with the faces of four candidates shown on a split screen, states that it will be Mark Hughes taking his talents to SW6.

Sven, Bob Bradley, and Lawrie Sanchez are shown with sad faces.

Should be decided by the end of tomorrow hopefully

Also, I like those odds on Bellamy and Ireland joining!

I think Mo is having delusions of being Alan Sugar and he's planned a series of exercises for potential managers to complete, with one being 'fired' each week..

Sounds like a good idea for a TV show. ©Equalz Productions 2010.

"We won't look back on this season with regret, but with pride. Because we won what many teams fail to win in a lifetime – an unprecedented degree of respect and support that saw British football fans unite and cheer on Fulham with heart." Mohammed Al Fayed, May 2010

Fulham - Hughes Tops the List!

With no new potential managerial candidate in the frame today, the media are now proposing that Mark Hughes is the one in the proverbial driving seat.

Hughes, out of work since being disposed of by Manchester City, is being heavily backed for the position, a proposition that should have the Vital Fulham readers smiling, considering that before Martin Jol entered the race Hughes was your favourite for the role.

The Welshman, who had such a distinguished playing career, had his best spell in management whilst at Blackburn Rovers leading the club into Europe before being enticed by the prospect of taking over at Manchester City.

But, we should point out that the same media that have placed Mark in pole position are also keen to point out that there could be a major obstacle to be overcome before any appointment could be ratified.

Our tabloid sources inform us that Mark Hughes an dour current Chief Executive, Alistair Mackintosh, were not exactly bosom buddies at City!

Come on chaps, let bygones be bygones shall we!

As they struggle over personal terms and the like. Wouldn't it be funny if Hughes turned out to be another false dawn. Then Sven told us to take a hike. Then we could aim for Curbs and Zola. Now that would be funny. Wouldn't it?  :dft005:

Bookies have slashed the odds on Mark Hughes taking over at Fulham with the Welshman trading as low as 1.04 (4/100) on the exchanges.

* Fulham poised to appoint Mark Hughes

The long running saga to succeed Roy Hodgson looks to be coming to an end after hot favourite Martin Jol turned down the Cottagers at the 11th hour. Jol was priced as low as 1.08 to take the job with the Europa League finalists before having a last minute change of heart.

Hughes, who has been out of work since being sacked by Manchester City last December, is understood to have agreed terms with an announcement set to be made imminently.

A spokesperson for the west London club said: 'I can confirm that we are hopeful of an announcement within the next 24/48 hours.'

Goal.com's betting blogger JD flagged up Hughes at 5.0 (4/1) as the better bet ahead of Sven Goran Eriksson in his regular blog last week.

Punters who backed Hughes at those odds look set to be quids in while those who backed Martin Jol are still cursing their luck. Goal.com's betting and odds expert David Mole believes this particular deal looks highly likely.

"An agreement between Fulham and Mark Hughes looks be a done deal with only the most paltry odds available on the betting exchanges. It would take a real bolt from the blue to scupper this deal now and whilst many were saying the same about Martin Jol just a few weeks ago, Hughes doesn't have any of the same complicating factors.

"It will interesting to assess the odds on him to repeat his top six finish with Blackburn but it will be a very different experience to his last days at Eastlands. Al Fayed is notoriously unwilling to splash his cash and Hughes to be managing Fulham in the Championship next season could be worth a punt at the right price!"

Whoever gets the Fulham job is 15.0 (14/1) to win the manager of the month award for August. The Londoners are long shots at 101.0 (100/1) to be the top side from the capital and 1001.0 (1000/1) to win the league.

Bookies clearly have good faith in the Cottagers maintaining their Premier League status as they are 1.05 (1/20) to stay up next season and 26.0 (25/1) to be bottom by Christmas. You'll get tasty odds of 9.0 (8/1) on Fulham getting relegated next season and 41.0 (40/1) on them finishing rock bottom.

A decent stint at Fulham would see Hughes back in contention for the job at his old club Manchester United. 'Sparky' is 34.0 (33/1) to take over from his mentor Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
