Fulham and ex-Spurs Scott Parker still has 'massive' part to play, says former boss

Whites midfielder wins new fans

Way forward: Scott Parker

Scott Parker time's at Fulham may be drawing to a close - but the former England international's impact is huge behind the scenes.

Before he was handed his P60, Kit Symons claimed the 35-year-old had won admirers throughout the squad - and not just with the younger element.

No less than Jamie O'Hara has taken out a subscription to the Parker fan club, and this from a player boasting 200 league appearances in his back catalogue with stints at Wolves and Tottenham.

"Because of what Scotty's achieved, all the players look up to him," Symons said. "Jamie O'Hara is massively experienced, but he still looks up to Scott.

"He's brilliant to have in and around the squad."

Admirer: Jamie O'Hara is a fan of Parker

The new manager, as and when he appears, may have different ideas, but Parker's 73rd appearance in white may be a while coming.

The last time the former West Ham, Chelsea and Newcastle player pulled on Championship white for Fulham is almost a distant memory - April 15 and a 1-1 draw with Rotherham.

Ankle surgery in the summer has taken its toll - that and a beefed up midfield that includes four new faces, including O'Hara's.

"Scott's come back from a serious injury," Symons added, " and I'm mindful of where he is in his career.

"It takes a bit longer to get back to your best. People in the team will have to falter, or those on the bench will have to show something exceptional to get back in.

"It's tough, but he's a professional, and Scott will keep doing the right things."

Parker's three-year contract runs out next June.

Fulham keen on luring Reading's Steve Clarke to Craven Cottage

Steve Clarke has emerged as a major candidate to take charge of Fulham after his odds were cut from 25/1 to just 4/1 (Bet Victor), although the 52-year-old is currently as short as 5/2 with Sky Bet and Paddy Power.

The Reading boss has enjoyed a bright start to the season with the Royals, who currently sit just outside the Championship play-offs in 8th, however their recent form of later has been rather wobbly, having gone five games without a win.

According to reports Fulham are keen on luring Clarke to west London, although the managerless Whites are likely to face a brick wall, with Reading determined to cling onto the former West Brom boss as they bid to win promotion back to the Premier League.

Nigel Pearson is still the odds-on favourite to be the man to replace the sacked Kit Symons, while other names in the running for the vacancy include the former Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic, and Burton Albion's Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

No Fulham Approach For Tis

With manager Paul Tisdale heavily linked as one of three strong candidates for the vacant Fulham hotseat following the departure of Kit Symons, Exeter have taken the step of confirming that no approach - at least as of yet - has been received by them when it came to permission to speak to the gaffer.

Having been mentioned alongside Reading manager Steve Clarke and former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson, chief executive Julian Tagg said it came as no surprise to him given the work that Tisdale has done across numerous years with.

Speaking to the Exeter Express & Echo about the longest serving manager in the Football League, Tagg said.

'There has been no contact from Fulham, but we are not surprised he has been linked with the job. Paul continues to develop players and improve our club on a daily basis and it is always a worry when a job comes up, because inevitably and unsurprisingly he is always likely to be in the frame.'

Tagg did say that if an approach came in from Fulham when it came to permission to speak to the 42 year old, they wouldn't stand in his way given his long association with us.

Pearson in talks as Fulham look to install former Leicester boss

Fulham are in negotiations with Nigel Pearson and hope to appoint him as their new head coach before the weekend.

Alan Curbishley is standing by to take charge of the team for Saturday's match against MK Dons, having been asked to take training following the recent sacking of Kit Symons.

But the club are trying to tie up a deal that would see Pearson, who was sacked by Leicester in June, take over at Craven Cottage.

A number of other candidates, including former Brentford boss Uwe Rosler, have been considered, but Pearson is Fulham's first choice.

The 52-year-old former Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough centre-back has also been linked with the vacant manager's job at QPR, but has not been considered for that role.

Pearson had two spells in charge at Leicester and has also managed Hull, Southampton and Carlisle.

Brendan Rodgers set for shock new job after interest from Chelsea, Villa, Fulham and QPR

BRENDAN RODGERS could be back in work this week with bookmakers slashing odds on him becoming the new Queens Park Rangers boss.

Rodgers was sacked by Liverpool by October 4 and replaced by Jurgen Klopp.

"I am, of course, incredibly disappointed to be leaving Liverpool Football Club. It has been both an honour and a privilege to manage one of the game's great clubs for the last three years," he said via the LMA.

The Ulsterman has been linked with a number of posts including Aston Villa, Chelsea, Fulham and QPR.

And, according to Oddschecker, the odds have dramatically dropped from 14 to 4/1, with some places offering 5/2, on Rodgers being appointed at Loftus Road.

Rangers sacked Chris Ramsey earlier this month with Neil Warnock in charge temporarily.

Favourite to take over is still Nigel Pearson with Rodgers now second ahead of Warnock and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Moussa Dembele focusing on Fulham

French forward Moussa Dembele has insisted that he is fully focused on Fulham amid talk surrounding his long-term future.

The 19-year-old has scored seven goals in 16 Championship games for Fulham this season and with his contract at Craven Cottage due to expire in the summer, a number of clubs are believed to be circling.

Tottenham Hotspur have been strongly linked with a move for the teenager, but Dembele has said that he is focusing on helping his current club gain promotion to the Premier League.

"Every week the media is sending me to different clubs. It is funny and flattering but on a serious note I am focusing on Fulham and promotion to the Premier League," Dembele told Get French Football News.

"All the other things do not affect me that much. I don't deceive. I give 100% every time I wear the shirt. For the rest, my agents are dealing with it.

"The secret to my success is my state of mind and my agents played a huge part in that. We are very close and we talk all the time. They motivate me to make sure things are working in the way that they should be."

Dembele joined Fulham from Paris Saint-Germain in 2012.

The west London outfit have sounded out Nigel Pearson as replacement
Sportsmail understands the club are set to hold talks with the 52-year-old
Ex-Leicester boss could be appointed at Craven Cottage before weekend
Reading manager Steve Clarke is also being considered by the club

Former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson is emerging as the leading contender for the vacant Fulham manager's job.

The championship side have sounded out Pearson, who was sacked by Premier League club Leicester in the summer, as the man to replace Kit Symons.

Sportsmail understands the club are set to hold talks with Pearson in the coming days and could make an appointment before the weekend should talks go well.

Pearson has been out of work since June when he was sacked by the Foxes - despite guiding the club to a miraculous Premier League survival last season.

Leicester spent 140 days at the bottom of the table but won seven of their last nine matches to comfortably stay up and finish 14th.

Next Fulham Manager Betting: Cash comes for Clarke to claim Craven Cottage role

"Clarke took the club to an FA Cup semi-final last season and has overseen a good start to the current campaign, with Reading sitting in eighth, just four points off the promotion places."

Is Steve Clarke about to abandon Reading's promotion push in favour of a move to mid-table Fulham?

The current Royals boss has been a major mover in Betfair Sportsbook's Next Fulham Manager betting today, going from 6/1 this morning to ½.

Clarke has been in charge at Reading for less than a year, joining in December 2014 following Nigel Adkins' sacking. The former West Brom manager took the club to an FA Cup semi-final last season and has overseen a good start to the current campaign, with Reading sitting in eighth, just four points off the promotion places.

Fulham, who sacked Kit Symons 10 days ago, are four points off Reading, sitting 12th in the Championship table.

The 52-year-old has West London previous, of course. He played more than 300 games for Fulham's rivals Chelsea and was assistant manager at Stamford Bridge for four years.

Clarke's only major rival for the job appears to be Nigel Pearson who can be backed at 6/4, but was previously as short as 2/5.

Fulham hopeful of Pearson appointment

Fulham are reportedly pushing to appoint Nigel Pearson as their new head coach before this weekend's game with MK Dons.

The Cottagers missed out on their first-choice, Paul Lambert, to Blackburn and are now eager to get a deal done for Pearson before another club swoops for his services.

Pearson has been out of work since he was surprisingly sacked by Leicester in the summer after the 52-year-old steered the club to safety in their first season back in the top flight.

Fulham believe Pearson is the right man to lead them back to the Premier League, although Sky Sports has suggested they are also interested in current Reading manager Steve Clarke and Exeter's Paul Tisdale should Pearson turn them down.

Should the Cottagers fail to appoint Pearson before the game with MK Dons on Saturday, then Alan Curbishley, who acted as an advisor to Kit Symons, will take charge of the team.

International Round-Up

Tim Ream played 68 minutes of the United States' goalless World Cup qualifying match away to Trinidad & Tobago on Tuesday.

A throw-in from the Fulham man set up Jozy Altidore midway through the first half, but the striker's half-volley flew just over the crossbar.

Gyasi Zardes almost put the States in front minutes after the restart only to see his header smack the woodwork, and Ream was replaced 20 minutes later by the more attack-minded Darlington Nagbe.

The USA failed to make the breakthrough, but remain at the top of the standings alongside their opponents on four points each.

In qualifying for the Under-21 European Championship, Lasse Vigen Christensen played 90 minutes and captained Denmark to a 2-0 win over Armenia in Aalborg.

The home side dominated proceedings and took the lead four minutes into the second half through defender Patrick Banggaard, and substitute Marcus Ingvartsen made sure of the points late on.

They now sit second in Group 5, a point behind Wales, for whom Jordan Evans was an unused substitute in their 1-1 draw with Romania.

Sean Kavanagh played the entirety of the Republic of Ireland Under-21s' 0-0 draw in a friendly against Norway in Waterford.

Both sides had chances to win the game, with Kavanagh going close in the first half only to see his excellent 30-yard strike brilliantly pushed round the post by the Norwegian goalkeeper.

At Under-19 level, Wales' qualifying campaign for the Euros ended prematurely as they were beaten 3-2 by Albania.

With Aron Davies playing the full 90 minutes, Wales knew victory would guarantee progression to the Elite Round, but they fell behind to Federico Zenuni's 10th-minute opener.

Jamie Thomas restored parity on 34 but they weren't level for long as captain Zenuni grabbed his second of the game moments later.

Ardian Krasniqi made it 3-1 going into the break and although George Thomas reduced the deficit again shortly after the restart, Wales were unable to find a way back into the game, with their misery compounded by the late dismissal of Rhys Abbruzzese.

Under-21s Host Villa

Fulham Under-21s will be looking to secure a third consecutive win when Aston Villa travel to Motspur Park on Thursday (1pm).

Please note that because this game now kicks off in the afternoon it will be behind-closed-doors and fans will not be allowed entry.

Back-to-back victories over West Ham United and Swansea City has seen the Whites move up to fourth in the Barclays U21 Premier League Division 2, and a positive result on Thursday would see them move above Arsenal into third.

Villa are only two points worse off and currently occupy seventh spot having played a game less. They were beaten 2-0 by Newcastle United in their previous outing, with first teamers Gary Gardner and Jores Okore both in the starting XI.

Goal updates from the game will be provided on our official Twitter account @FulhamFC and a match report will be published on the website.

Steve Clarke set to be appointed new Fulham manager after Kit Symons leaves
Steve Clarke set to leave Reading to take over at Fulham
Fulham sacked Kit Symons as manager earlier this month
Clarke has been in charge of Reading since December 2014

Fulham are on the brink of appointing Steve Clarke as their new manager.

The Cottagers sacked Kit Symons earlier this month and have moved to pluck his replacement from Championship rivals Reading - with whom a compensation package must be agreed.

Fulham, who also considered ex-Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson for the post, are just four points behind Reading in the table.

Steve Clarke (above) is set to leave Reading to take over at Championship rivals Fulham

Fulham (in white, taking on Leeds last month) currently sit in 12th place in the Championship table

Clarke, 52, led West Brom to eighth place in the Premier League in his only full season in management to date in the 2012-13 season.

That represented their highest league finish since 1981 but he was sacked months later in December 2013.

The Scot took over at Reading exactly 12 months later and steered them clear of relegation trouble last season as well as guiding them to an FA Cup semi-final.

Clarke spent 11 years at Chelsea as a player and a further four years at the club as assistant manager, where he worked under Jose Mourinho.

He has also assisted Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool and Newcastle and Gianfranco Zola at West Ham.

Andy Hinchcliffe believes Fulham's Moussa Dembele would be a hit at Tottenham Hotspur or Everton

Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are said to be interested in signing Fulham forward Moussa Dembele.

Sky Sports pundit Andy Hinchcliffe has claimed that Fulham youngster Moussa Dembele has the ability to play in the Premier League.

Both Everton and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Dembele in recent times, by Get West London, with the duo said to be impressed by the front-man's potential.

And Hinchcliffe feels that Dembele would make a good addition for either of the top-flight pair, after watching him on regular occasions this season.

"He's still very young, very raw, Dembele, but he doesn't seem to get too much wrong," Hinchcliffe said.

"I don't see a lot of naivety in his play. With [strike partner] Ross McCormack especially, your brain has to work very quickly because McCormack is such a thoughtful player with the positions he picks up. He plays off Dembele, and to stick to your natural game and pick up what others are doing around you shows a real maturity.

"I think with his pace, his power, his finishing on the floor and in the air, he's playing like a mid-20s player, which is quite extraordinary. There's been talk of interest from Everton and Spurs; he could be a Premier League player and it will be nice to see how he develops over the course of the season."

Dembele has enjoyed a fine breakthrough campaign so far, and he has fully established his place in Fulham's starting line-up.

The 19-year-old's pace has caused problems for defences throughout the Championship, and he has netted on a consistent basis.

Dembele already has eight goals to his name in his opening 18 appearances, and Spurs and Everton have apparently been casting their eye over the starlet.

Both Tottenham and Everton have had great success from signing players from the Football League recently, and Hinchcliffe clearly feels that Dembele could be another hit at the very top level.

REPORT: Steve Clarke To Take Fulham Job Tomorrow

What started as whispers a few days ago has now turned into a fully fledged report with a national newspaper claiming Reading boss Steve Clarke will leave the club tomorrow.

couple of days ago The Sun reported on a rumour that had Steve Clarke in a three-way battle for the Fulham job with Nigel Pearson and Paul Tisdale, now another paper is reporting that Clarke has won that battle and will take the job tomorrow.

The report claims that Clarke 'sees more potential in Fulham than Reading' which is quite a statement in itself given that Fulham are below Reading in the table, have a lower average attendance and have spent considerably less in the transfer market over the summer. Still to give Fulham their due, they were a team who spent the best part of a decade in the Premier League, reached a Europa League final and have an ambitious owner in Shahid Khan all factors that seem to have lured the Scot away. Obviously Khan was mightily impressed with the way Clarke's team conceded three goals inside ten minutes at Craven Cottage a few weeks ago.....

Obviously for now it's speculation but with the bookmakers also having Clarke as a rampant 1/4 favourite to be the next Fulham manager, the signs have now escalated from 'you what?!' to 'no way!'

Get Reading reporter and Tilehurst End Podcast Extra Co-Host Charles Watts is also backing up the story.

Steve Clarke Looks Set To Join Fulham

Steve Clarke looks set to become manager of Fulham in what will be a bizarre sideways move for the manager. Clarke is now a firm favourite at 1/4 to be installed as the new manager at Craven Cottage this evening.

Fulham are below Reading in the Championship in 12th place, and Clarke would move shortly after making big changes at Reading after being allowed to implement his own plans for the new season. He raised plenty of eyebrows in the close season after dismissing a number of back-room staff to install his own team. His changes included a number of coaching staff and even included the removal of Reading's long standing kitman. With the impressive backing of Reading's Thai owners, Clarke was able to release a number of key players and replace them with "big signings" to give Reading a strong squad for the new season.

His big changes meant that things had to work out for him quickly, and the season got off to a decent start. Reading moved into second place in the Championship leading to talk of automatic promotion - before a run of five matches within a league win has seen Reading sink to 8th. Despite the recent loss of form, confidence had remained high at Reading. Clarke has assembled an exciting new team and has only just got to work with it. It is very early days for the new look playing squad - and early days for Clarke and his backroom staff.

Moving to Fulham at such a stage of the season, with Reading placed where they are, seems a very odd decision. If Clarke does leave for Fulham it will show a serious lack of loyalty after both Reading's owners and fans put their faith in him.

Fulham have been without a manager for ten days after sacking Kit Symons after a 2-5 home defeat against Birmingham City before the International break. Fulham's last win was their 4-2 victory over Reading in October, which has been followed by three big defeats. Obviously their previous manager getting one over Steve Clarke has done nothing to put them off as they look to secure his signature.

Clarke has been at Reading for just eleven months. He joined the Royals in December 2014, a full year after leaving his previous managers job at West Bromwich Albion. He failed to impress last season until he guided Reading to a historic FA Cup Semi-Final against Arsenal. That cup run aside, his record with Reading will go down as very average if he has managed his last Reading game.

Steve Clarke's Reading Record:

Wins: 18
Draws: 14
Defeats: 18

Fulham in talks with Reading manager Steve Clarke
Clarke has been given the green light to speak with Fulham officials and deal could be completed on Thursday

Steve Clarke could be headed for Craven Cottage Photo: REX

Fulham are in talks with Steve Clarke after making an official approach to Championship rivals Reading.

Clarke has been given the green light to speak with Fulham officials and could be appointed as manager in the next 24 hours if negotiations are successful.

Fulham made their move for the Scot on Wednesday and want him to succeed Kit Symons, who was sacked earlier this month.

Clarke's move to Craven Cottage is ‎far from complete, however, with personal terms yet to be agreed, but Fulham are hopeful of reaching an agreement on Thursday.

Fulham sacked Kit Symons earlier this month

Reading only appointed Clarke in December but ‎he guided the club to Championship survival and an FA Cup semi-final while this season he has led them to the brink of the play-off places.

Fulham have moved for the 52-year-old ahead of other contenders including Nigel Pearson, the former Leicester manager, and Uwe Rosler, who were also on their shortlist.

Clarke was interviewed by Reading before Symons was appointed last year but is now poised to take over officially before the weekend.

Fulham are 12th in the Championship after an inconsistent start to the campaign, despite spending around £7million in the summer in a bid to build a squad capable of a promotion challenge.

This weekend they face a trip to Milton Keynes Dons.

Fulham speak to Steve Clarke after Nigel Pearson talks break down

ulham are in discussions with Steve Clarke about their vacant head coach job after talks with Nigel Pearson broke down, according to Sky sources.

It is understood Clarke is keen to join the west London club, despite Reading's excellent start in the Championship this season, and he could be installed before the weekend.

Sky sources reported earlier this week that Clarke was on a list of three candidates to succeed the sacked Kit Symons along with Pearson and Exeter boss Paul Tisdale.

The Whites also spoke to ex-Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert, but he opted to join Championship rivals Blackburn on Sunday.

Fulham had also been preparing to let Alan Curbishley, who has been conducting first-team training since Symons' departure, take charge of the team at MK Dons on Saturday.

It is understood that Curbishley, the former Charlton and West Ham boss, wants the Fulham head coach job full-time, but the club are reluctant to give it to a man who has been out of football management for over seven years.

Symons was sacked by Fulham in early November after a 5-2 home defeat by Birmingham City.
