Kloop at Liverpool

Why am I talking about Liverpool and their new manager.

Last night on MOTD with Liverpool winning 1-4 away at City.

The panel highlighted how the Liverpool players  closed down the City players, thus not given them time to play.

Yesterday Liverpool out played City, just by closing them down every time City had the ball.

This closing down demanded all players to be involved and to back their colleagues up.

This is the style of play that Fulham must  try.

Please  watch the MOTD highlights so you can see what I mean.

It's a massive part of a successful team. Barcelona do exactly the same thing.

When Guardiola was in charge, I saw him taking training & one thing he kept demanding was if you lose the ball, the 'team' has a maximum of 7 seconds to get it back. If they were without the ball for 7 seconds there was trouble.
Assume he does the same at Munich too.

Quite simple really, you can't score if you don't have the ball!

Forever Fulham

I thought Leicester played that way yesterday.

Also remember one of the first things Tigana said when he took over Fulham was that whichever player had the ball, they needed to have at least 3 passing options. Was all about players passing & moving & the player with the ball having options.

Successful teams always have more possession.

The German term for this style of play is gegenpressing:

It can make a team of decent but not great talent - like some of Dortmunds under Klopp - winners.  But it takes a lot of discipline in addition to a high level of fitness, otherwise everyone is spent by the half.

Looks as if it's starting to work at Liverpool...

sure Mikey Adams used to do it in old L2 the season we went up

Logicalman

Yeah, MOTD had an after match interview down on the pitch with Klopp after the game, and a lot of what he had to say impressed me.
I firmly believe that Klopp could bring Liverpool back into being a sustainable top 4 side again.

Liverpool bossed that game in the same way as Spuds bossed the porn stars today, both pretty good matches overall.
Logical is just in the name - don't expect it has anything to do with my thought process, because I AM the man who sold the world.

It is not rocket science or new. I was taught that 60 years ago.

'Push and run' they used to call it.

The Hungarians with Puskas introduced us to it, thrashing England at Wembley in the mid -fifties.

The famous Spurs  Double winning side, under Nicholson adopted it.

Watched the Spuds v. Wet Spam match today. The announcer talked about how Mauricio Pochettino had drilled his players in shutting down opposing counter-attacks. Spurs have amazing speed in their FBs, and consistently got back before counter-attacking Spammers. It had the effect of eliminating the biggest danger in attacking football, and it goes a long way in explaining how a team so dependent on young talent can perform so consistently well in a highly competitive league.

Yes, I can't imagine this to be a new tactic!

But it's strange why so many teams - like Fulham - seem have the opposite strategy: to conserve as much energy as possible for the next match!  Not to mention any names - Dembele - OK, I mentioned a name.
