I'm not writing from a position of clarity here as I left the UK in 1990.  My views are filtered from news reports, highlights or single camera filming of the matches and comments on here.  Oh, I should add Gentleman Jim and Sean Davis also provide me with some insight on the spot, so to speak.
Not seeing the games live in gorily full panoramic detail leaves me at a huge disadvantage but it does seem to me as if our hand-selected, fairly skillful team is lacking in one key area - strength (or some call it physicality), particularly in defence.
None of our keepers command the six yard area like rugby second row forwards or basketball players.   Our fullbacks do too little to prevent crosses from reaching the danger area.  As a team we look below average height so cannot get heads to those crosses first, but most importantly, we just get muscled off the ball in our penalty area leading me to believe we lack the strength needed to defend our goal in this league.
Finally, is it just me or are Stearman's legs too thin to be a centre back?

I think John Charles makes the point better - and you're a Welshman!
