Fulham's Woodrow faces three months out

Fulham striker Cauley Woodrow is expected to be out for up to three months with a foot injury.

The 21-year-old went off during the first half of his team's FA Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

And an X-ray has revealed that Woodrow sustained a fracture to his fifth metatarsal.

Woodrow has scored four goals for Fulham this season, two of them coming in the recent 4-1 win against Rotherham.

Sheffield United remain keen on Fulham defender Dan Burn

Nigel Adkins will make third bid for centre-back if Whites go with other options

Wanted by Sheffield United: Dan Burn of Fulham

Sheffield United are mulling over a third bid for Fulham defender Dan Burn as the Blades look for January transfer window additions.

Nigel Adkins has told sources in Yorkshire he wants to recruit in defensive and attacking areas this winter.

United sit just outside the League One play-off places and believe the capture of £1million-rated Burn can give them the edge in the race for promotion to the second tier of English football.

Adkins is a known admirer of the towering centre-half and saw two bids knocked back for the player in the summer as a couple of hitches held up the deal.

It is understood that the Whites were willing to do business but only on the condition that a replacement was acquired first, with former manager Kit Symons pulling the plug.

Burn is entering the final few months of his contract in west London and has been in and out of the starting XI at Craven Cottage.

New boss Slavisa Jokanovic has restored him to the fold for the last few fixtures but the Blades are monitoring the situation to see if the Serbian decides to look at other options at the back.

United would launch their ambitious third attempt to snare the giant defender should the Serbian make changes to his plans.

Cauley Woodrow: Fulham striker faces 12 weeks out with foot injury

Fulham's England Under-21 striker Cauley Woodrow is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks with a foot injury.

The 21-year-old went off during the first half of his team's FA Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

An X-ray has subsequently revealed that Woodrow sustained a fracture to his fifth metatarsal.

He has scored four goals in 15 games this term, two of them coming in Fulham's recent 4-1 win over Rotherham.

Woodrow signed a new three-year contract at Craven Cottage last summer.

Tottenham favourites to sign Fulham's Moussa Dembele ahead of Crystal Palace and Manchester United

Tottenham have emerged as the bookmakers' favourites to sign Fulham forward Moussa Dembele this month ahead of Crystal Palace and Manchester United.

The 19-year-old - who is not related to the Spurs midfielder with the same name - is currently assessing his options as his contract at Fulham runs out in the summer.

Standard Sport understands that Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is a long-term admirer of Dembele, and that discussions were held recently regarding his availability with both the north London side and United.

It is also understood that Dembele's agent met with Monaco chiefs last week to discuss a possible move to France but, despite the player said to be enthusiastic about potentially signing for the Ligue 1 club, Spurs remains the bookies' favourites to land the highly-rated youngster this month.

According to odds from Bet Victor, Tottenham are 4/1 favourites to sign Dembele while Palace are 6/1 and United have odds of 8/1 to pip the London sides to the forward.

Jazz: Kill Games Off

Jazz Richards believes that things are looking up at Fulham, but acknowledged that they need to be more ruthless in front of goal.

The Whites had by far the clearer chances at Hillsborough on Saturday, but a lack of cutting edge in the final third allowed Sheffield Wednesday to take a 2-1 win despite only having two shots on target.

"I think we were the better team by far," Richards told fulhamfc.com. "We had so many good chances and we should have killed off the game.

"We had a good few openings and if we'd have put them away we'd have gone on to win the game, comfortably as well. Obviously they've got good quality in their team and a few players that can change the game for them, and that's what was proven."

The performance from Slaviša Jokanović's men was vastly improved from the one seen a week earlier against the same opponents, and Richards admitted that is something to take from the defeat.

"It's definitely a positive, to an extent," he stated. "For 70/75 minutes we were on top, and that's something that I don't think we've done this season – we've tended to play well for 45 minutes and then play poor for another 45 minutes.

"So we can take positives from the game but we still can't be going and losing matches like that.

"Obviously Saturday was a difficult one. Like I say, we were on top for 75 minutes of the game, and that's not what we've been doing this season at all, so we're proving that we've just got to go on and do better in the games."

Jokanović has had two fixtures in charge of the Whites now, and Richards believes his philosophies are moving the team in the right direction.

"It's still early doors but he's come in and changed what we've been doing and I think it's benefitting us," he said. "We're not showing it as much as we'd like yet but you've got to give him a chance.

"He's trying to make us more aggressive and not be as nice. If we can bring that into our game and finish off our chances then we'll be fine.

"I think we've defended a lot better the last couple of games as well and if we carry on doing that we're going to get the results."

Next up for the Whites is a side who have won their last three league matches in Wolverhampton Wanderers, but Richards is keen to see his side show their worth at Molineux.

"We just need to go in with the same fight and hopefully that will see us get something out of the game," he explained. "Wolves are a good team with quality players, but we've got quality players in our team, we've just got to go and prove that Tuesday night."

Fulham boss says he can bury sins of the past at Wolves but must do so without Cauley Woodrow – out for 12 weeks

Whites manager gears up to turn around dismal sequence against Kenny Jackett's team after FA Cup exit to Sheffield Wed - but there is bad news for England U21 striker

Ouch!: Cauley Woodrow of Fulham gets treatment before going off

Slavisa Jokanovic says history is bunk when it comes to Fulham's chances at Wolves tomorrow night.

Fresh off an FA Cup exit to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, Whites gird loins for a clash where new boss and side have won but a single Championship point in five attempts and will do so without Cauley Woodrow - out for up to 12 weeks with a foot fracture.

Fulham won an FA Cup replay on penalties at Molineux last term, but in three league games along with the two Jokanovic encountered as Watford boss – a single draw for the Hornets is all they have to show between them.

The Fulham manager said: "I cannot compare this and last season. I'm not living in the past.

"Fulham is different now; Wolves is different; and although they have a very strong team, we must find the best way to rest for an important game."

Wrap: Slavisa Jokanovic wears the colours

Jokanovic is set to ring the changes for a second game in 72 hours that sees Moussa Dembele a shoo-in for stricken Woodrow.

An X-ray has revealed the England U21 forward sustained a fracture to his fifth metatarsal 24 minutes into Saturday's tie, and will be out for up to 12 weeks.

Woodrow has scored four goals in 15 games this term, two of them coming in Fulham's recent 4-1 win over Rotherham.

Striker Bjorn Sigurdarson sidelined for Wolves

Bjorn Sigurdarson is out of Wolves' clash with Fulham after the striker suffered an ankle injury in the 1-0 defeat at West Ham.

The forward needed several minutes of treatment during the FA Cup clash but scans have revealed the injury is not as bad as first feared, although he is definitely out against the Cottagers and for Saturday's visit of Cardiff.

New signing Michal Zyro is expected to be fit after coming off against the Hammers on Saturday with cramp.

Kortney Hause remains sidelined with a hamstring injury but Emi Martinez is fit, although Carl Ikeme could continue in goal.

Fulham will be without striker Cauley Woodrow due to a fractured metatarsal.

The England Under-21 international suffered the injury during Saturday's FA Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday and faces up to three months on the sidelines.

Boss Slavisa Jokanovic made five changes for the Hillsborough clash so Richard Stearman, Tim Ream, Emerson Hyndman, Sakari Mattila and Moussa Dembele could all return. Goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli (knee) and midfielder Ryan Tunnicliffe (hamstring) are still absent.

Top ten for the Rookettes at Fulham

Ten goals, a clean sheet and no major injuries added up to a ten-out-of-ten start to 2016 for John Donoghue's Rookettes. With Charlie Carter and Hayley West back in the side after months out, Lewes could not have wished for a better return to their injury-hit, stop-start season.

Buoyed by their AET penalties drama in the previous round, Fulham started brightly, closing down their higher-ranked opponents, their well-drilled back four holding a tight line against Lewes's hungry forwards. Six minutes in Sian Heather gave the visitors the lead, turning sharply inside the box to fire through a forest of legs. 0-1.

Despite an early advantage Lewes took time to find their shape, Fulham getting numbers back to thwart a series of attacks as the visitors battled up the slope into a sharp breeze on a near-perfect pitch. On 23 minutes Charlie Carter stepped into midfield to send a well-timed pass to the feet of Khassal. Hersey and Wentworth closed her down but the Lewes forward's neat drag-back created space for her to score the second from 14 yards. 0-2.

Four minutes later Khassal doubled her tally. Lewes broke from a Fulham corner, Khassal racing away from her marker on the halfway line. Lane made a great run across the back four to allow the Lewes Ten to squeeze her shot in off Hersey's heels. 0-3.

Moments later Lewes hit number four, Kirsty Spice firing high into the net from close range after good work from Heather and Lane. Rookettes skipper Kelly Newton had the fans on their feet with a dipping effort that screamed over after Spice's shot was blocked on the line. Lewes had their tails up, the ever-busy Wells finishing another swift passing move to make it five at the break. HT 0-5

The second half saw a change in conditions but no change in play. Storm clouds delivered a heavy shower as shots rained in on the Fulham goal. Just a minute after the restart, Sian Heather fought down the right to win a corner. Spice delivered and Newton rose on the edge of the six-yard box to plant her well-placed header past Hersey.0-6.

Any chance of a comeback was quashed in emphatic fashion on 48 minutes. Khassal danced into the D, flicking a sublime pass through to Lane who fired an unstoppable shot under Hersey. 0-7. Not to be outdone, Kirsty Spice scored a peach of her own, spinning in the D to curl a beauty in off the base of left upright. 0-8.

A long-range Paige Walder shot cannoned back off Khassal before Spice hit another cracking curler that Hersey saved brilliantly at full stretch. Khassal completing her hat-trick on 58 minutes with a sweet left foot shot that curled high into the top corner. 0-9.

Ellie Ramsauer replaced Newton as Fulham pulled off a series of blocks and saves, including a brave stop at Sian Heather's feet after a typically tenacious Westie tackle created a half-chance. Just after the hour Fulham brought on Augustein for Lovelock, Lewes adding Lauren Smith (for Spice) and Sienna Howell (for Walder).

Fulham worked their socks off without the ball, determined to keep the score in single figures. They held out until the 82nd minute. Smith, increasingly effective wide left, fired in an inch-perfect pass met by Heather racing into the area, her first-time finish giving Hersey no chance. FT 0-10

Lewes manager John Donoghue was satisfied with his team. "You're never quite sure how the team will react after a long time without a game. I think we controlled the game. It was good to see Charlie (Carter) and Hayley (West) back (both completed 90 minutes) and several players getting on the score sheet."

Lewes host Cardiff City Ladies in the FA WPL next Sunday 17th January at the Dripping Pan, kick-off 2pm.

Sheffield United: Blades will not ditch transfer targets

Dan Burn (right) in action against Sheffield United earlier this season

Nigel Adkins has indicated Sheffield United will continue to pursue Dan Burn, despite learning Fulham are loath to part company with the defender.

As The Star revealed last week, Adkins and his staff are contemplating another approach for the 23-year-old before next month's transfer deadline after failing with two previous bids earlier this term.

Representatives acting on behalf of Bramall Lane are believed to have contacted Craven Cottage over the Christmas period to discover their recruitment plans following Slaviša Jokanovic's appointment as manager.

Although Adkins refused to divulge the identity of his transfer targets, he is believed to have been referring to Burn when explaining the difficulty of luring "good players" away from their present clubs.

"It's fair to say there are a couple of players we would like to bring in," Adkins said. "They are good players but it's easier said than done which is unfortunate. Things change all the time, especially at this point of the season. Players who were available are suddenly back in the team which makes them no so available."

Burn, who expressed his desire to join United during the summer window before Jokanovic's predecessor Kit Symons blocked the move due to an injury crisis, has been a regular starter under the Serb.

"The loan window opens soon after the deadline," Adkins, the United manager, added. "It's important to remember that but the people we are looking at, well, they involve permanent deals and transfer fees."

Adkins, who revealed before Saturday's FA Cup tie against Manchester United that "private conversations" are taking place with Leicester City about extending Dean Hammond's loan, used the midfielder's presence to underline why he is keen to recruit "quality and character."

"We waited for Dean," Adkins said. "It didn't happen straight away but you can see already it was worth the wait because of the standards he has. He's a proper man, an elite professional and he can only improve other players at this club. You can see that happening already. His good habits rub off on the younger players especially. Every single day."

Opposition View: Matt Murray

Matt Murray spent two decades years at Wolverhampton Wanderers, but a string of injuries meant he only played 100 times. A hugely popular goalkeeper during his time at Molineux, he now regularly reports on the club for Sky Sports.

You must feel quite close to Wolves having spent so long there?

I was nine years of age when I first joined, and to see how the club's come on is frightening. There's quite a few lads who joined at a young age and came through the ranks and into the first team. There was myself, Adam Proudlock, Robbie Keane, Joleon Lescott, Keith Andrews, Lee Naylor – we all went on to play a fair few games for the club. I was from about 25 miles away in Lichfield so I knew all about the club and its history, and what it means to the fans, so it meant a lot to play for the first team.

You had an excellent debut year in the first team, winning promotion to the Premier League.

In my debut season I think I played 48 games, culminating with the Play-Off Final which was obviously a fantastic day. I played for England Under-21s that season as well, so to do that was awesome. That first season was pretty special and to finish how it did was unreal. A lot of fans still say is one of their most memorable days as a Wolves fan, so it's nice to have been in that chapter in the club's history books.

And you saved a penalty in that 3-0 win over Sheffield United?

I ended up getting man of the match which was really, really nice. I made a few saves, and saved a penalty. To save a penalty in a Final right at the start of the second half, for a keeper to keep a clean sheet and save a penalty, that's dream stuff.

It must have been frustrating that you didn't really get a chance in the top flight?

I was looking forward to the Premier League but then because of injuries the whole thing was really disappointing. It felt really cruel. I played the first game but wasn't fully fit, then went away on international duty and had problems. We all want to play at the top level, especially when you've played a big part in getting there, you want to pit yourself against the best, against world-class players, and really elevate yourself. The second time we got to the Premier League I didn't manage to feature at all, again because of injury. You feel anger, frustration, because it's out of your control. It's not because you're getting dropped or anything like that, your body's letting you down. I worked really, really hard and did what was asked of me, but I couldn't get it right and stay fit, so it was very disappointing.

Is it tough to cope with when you're injured for so long?

It's really hard. That's why it's important to have good family, good people around you. When you've got children and good friends you realise that there's still more to life, however unbelievable playing is. When the surgeon finally said that I should call it a day, there was a bit of a sense of relief because someone's taken it out of your hands and you don't have to go through this pain anymore. But at the same time you're devastated because it's something you love doing. You just want to play football so to have that taken away from you, before you're ready to give it up, is really, really difficult.

What have you made of Wolves this season?

I commentated on them away at Brighton which made it three fantastic wins and clean sheets in a row, but I don't believe we're as strong as we were last season. There's now no Bakary Sako, Nouha Dicko's injured, Benik Afobe left, and we lost Richard Stearman to you guys. So we're not quite as strong as we were, but there's still a real togetherness. The fans get behind the team, the work ethic is frightening, and they're very organised defensively. Jordan Graham has been a real find, he's the one that's really excited me the last five or six games. Even since he's come in he's been awesome. Carl Ikeme has been on fire as well – he's playing really, really well. We'll need him on it if Ross McCormack's firing.

Do you know Stearman well?

I was on holiday with Stears in the summer. He lived round the corner from me and was at Wolves when I was there, even though I didn't really get to play with him. He was in the Championship Team of the Year when we went up to the Premier League, and he got Player of the Year last season. On and off the pitch the lads loved him, absolutely loved him. He's a great lad so I still speak to Stears now. I always want him to play well, but I just don't want him to win when he's up against Wolves!

Which Fulham players will Wolves be wary of on Tuesday?

Fulham have some very, very good players. Keeping the likes of Ross McCormack quiet will be vital. I know Andy Lonergan, the goalie, and think he's good. Obviously Stears is coming back, too. I think Jamie O'Hara will be looking to come and prove a point. He'll probably get quite a hostile reception but Jamie's fine with that and will be using that left foot wand to spray the ball around.

How do you see the game going?

Fulham's always a difficult proposition. I commentated on Wolves when they got absolutely smashed 5-0 at the Cottage in the Premier League. I would never bet against Wolves, but I don't think there'll be much in it. I believe it will be a close game, and Wolves will win 2-1 or 1-0. I like Slaviša Jokanović and what he did with Watford last season, I thought they had a very fluid play to them. So now that he's had some more time with them on the grass, I'm expecting to already see a little bit of his influence.

JOKANOVIC SET TO RING THE CHANGES

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic gears up to turn around dismal sequence against Kenny Jackett's team after FA Cup exit to Sheffield Wed.

Fulham boss weighing up where best to use Tim Ream – with Wolves clash in mind

Fulham boss weighing up where best to use Tim Ream – with Wolves clash in mind

Decision: Tim Ream

Slavisa Jokanovic is having a long hard think on where best to use Tim Ream ahead of tonight's match at Molineux.

The USA international was bought as a centre back in the summer, with Fulham reportedly paying Bolton close to £2 million and pipping QPR for his services.

But since the return of James Husband to parent club Middlesbrough at the beginning of December, Ream has shifted to the left of defence ahead of loanee number two Luke Garbutt.

Best foot forward: Ream challenges Ross Wallace of Sheffield Wednesday

Fans are divided on how good Ream has been at left-back, and his manager is likewise pondering the next move for the 28-year-old.

"We can occupy (the spot) with Tim and Luke Garbutt," said Jokanovic.

"I am completely agreed he can play left or centre back. But now it's my work to find more benefits (for the team).

"This is not chess, and I understand what you're saying but I need to find the best solutions."

Currently in Ream's central spot is Dan Burn coveted by Sheffield United. But with Fulham under a transfer embargo, any departure will be decided by new loans arriving at the Cottage.

Wolves Factfile

Fulham return to league action with a trip to in-form Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

The opposition

Wolves go into the encounter with the Whites at Molineux in good form having won their previous three league outings, all of which saw them keep a clean sheet. It's a run which has seen them rise from 17th to 11th in the Sky Bet Championship standings.

They lost their most recent match, though, as they travelled to Upton Park in the FA Cup at the weekend. They almost forced West Ham United to a Third Round Replay, but Nikica Jelavic struck in the 84th minute to earn the Premier League side a 1-0 victory.

Tuesday will represent Wanderers' first fixture without Benik Afobe following his transfer to AFC Bournemouth in an eight-figure deal. The striker netted 23 times in 48 games during his time at the club.

Team news

Kenny Jackett will be without Bjorn Sigurdarson after the striker was taken off in East London. Debutant Michal Zyro also had to be withdrawn, but he's back in contention for Tuesday.

Tickets

Tickets are no longer available to buy and Wolves will not be selling to away supporters at the ground. Do not travel if you do not already have a ticket.

Weather

There's a good chance of rain in Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening, with temperatures of around four degrees.

Getting there

Trains to Wolverhampton from Euston take less than two hours. The last train back to London is at 10.45pm and takes two and a half hours. It's a 15-minute walk from the station to the ground.

Pre-match

The Bluebrick and the Great Western Pub are away fan friendly. The Bluebrick is connected to the Premier Inn right by the train station, while the Great Western is about 100 yards behind the Premier Inn, almost underneath the station.

Coral match odds

Wolves: 11/10

Draw: 5/2

Fulham: 13/5

Last time we met

A poor display saw 10-man Fulham slip to a 3-0 defeat by Wolves at Craven Cottage at the end of September. Tom Cairney was given his marching orders in the 35th minute for a two-footed lunge on Adam Le Fondre, who gave his side the lead when he deflected in Sheyi Ojo's shot after the restart. Ojo then doubled the advantage when his effort crept beyond Andrew Lonergan, and James Henry's fine free-kick made it three.

Dev Squad up for the Cup

The Development Squad return to U21 Premier League Cup action with an all London tie with Fulham on Wednesday 13 January at Rush Green.

The young Hammers progressed through to the Round of 16 after beating Exeter City 4-0 at St James Park.

That night, a ruthless Dev Squad got off to a terrific start through striker Jaanai Gordon who netted after just eight seconds.

The 20-year-old doubled the lead just 10 minutes later before Djair Parfitt-Williams and Moses Makasi sealed the convincing victory.

Looking ahead to Wednesday's encounter, with free admission for all fans, Scottish left-back Stephen Hendrie said: "We're seven games unbeaten now; it's all going well and we're full of confidence.

"We just want to keep on going and getting the victories. Fulham is a big game for us, we all really want to get the win, fingers crossed we'll progress to the quarter finals."

As for the Cottagers, they beat Colchester United 3-1 away in December with goals from Alexander Kačaniklić, Dean O'Halloran and Cauley Woodrow.

The west Londoners are currently five games unbeaten, a run which started with the Whites sealing a 2-0 victory at Upton Park in October.

Coincidentally, that is the last game Terry Westley's charges have lost, and now four months on, they've won six of their seven games, scoring 15 goals in the process.

The Development Squad host Fulham U21 on Wednesday 13 January at Rush Green, 7pm. Admission is FREE for fans.

Pader Cup Champions

In Paderborn, Germany, on Sunday, an Under-17 Fulham side claimed the Pader Cup with an 8-2 victory over DSC Arminia Bielefeld.

The day before, Kevin Betsy's side were beaten 3-2 by VfL Osnabrück and 5-4 by Schalke in their first two group games, but recovered to defeat SC Preussen Münster 2-1 and Karlsruher SC 6-5 to finish second and progress to the Quarter-Finals.

There they beat Hannover 96 7-2, before defeating SC Freiburg 4-2 in the Semis, prior to their huge scoreline in the Final that saw them take home the trophy.

Furthermore, Ryan Sessegnon was named Player of the Tournament, in addition to nabbing the golden boot having scored 15 goals. Afterwards he tweeted: "Blessed to win best player of the tournament and get top scorer of the tournament. Great team performances.

"Germany was a great experience, the fans were amazing and the atmosphere was electric. I would like to thank the fans who cheered us on."

Elsewhere in Germany, Fulham Under-19s progressed to the second Group Stage of the Sparkasse & VGH Cup, but were eliminated prior to the Quarter-Final stage.

Steve Wigley's Whites had progressed from the first phase top of a group that included German heavyweights Hamburg and Borussia Mönchengladbach, with a goal difference of +27 from their six matches.

They got off to a phenomenal start with a 12-1 victory over JSG Hoher Hagen on Thursday, with Josh Walker netting a hat-trick and Stephen Humphrys, Elijah Adebayo and Marlon Fossey all bagging braces. Goals from Anthony Dolan, Harrison Paton and Dennis Adeniran completed the rout.

Shortly after, West JFV Göttingen were the opponents and were subsequently put to the sword too, 5-1 this time. Adebayo struck twice again, while Walker and Adeniran also added to their tallies for the day, and goalkeeper Magnus Norman even got off the mark, too.

Friday began with the sternest test yet as the Whites faced Mönchengladbach. They stormed into a four-goal lead through Adeniran, Walker, Fossey and Humphrys, but were forced to settle for a draw as the Germans hit back to make it 4-4.

Next up was local outfit I.SC Göttingen 05, and they recovered from going two down to secure a 6-3 win, with Walker and Fossey grabbing braces to add to Adeniran's goal and a long-range strike from Norman.

A tough encounter against Hamburg on Saturday eventually saw Fulham emerge 4-3 winners. After Jerome Opoku's opener had been cancelled out, Adebayo, Paton and Adeniran had seemingly put the Whites in control of the game, only for Hamburg to cause a scare with two more goals.

The first Group Stage was then brought to its conclusion with a comprehensive 8-0 triumph over JSG Hardegsen. Walker got his second hat-trick of the competition, Paton and Adebayo nabbed two each, and Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson notched his first of the week.

So the Whites advanced through to Sunday's round of matches where they found themselves in a three-team group alongside 1.FSV Mainz 05 and FC Copenhagen.

Fulham established a two-goal advantage courtesy of Walker and Mattias Kait strikes in their meeting with Mainz, but ended up on the wrong side of a 3-2 scoreline.

A win over Copenhagen was needed to progress to the Quarter-Finals but the Danes claimed a 4-2 victory, with Fossey and Paton netting what proved to be consolation goals for their side.

The Final was played out by Mönchengladbach and Austria Vienna, with the latter coming out on top with a 3-1 win.

Roberts Available for Loan!

When speculation started, last season, suggesting that Manchester City we relooking at signing our young winger, Patrick Roberts, we offered a warning about the youngster making the move.

At such a tender age, although the prospect of becoming a Manchester City player would be very enticing, we pointed out that there was a danger that Roberts would follow the same career path that one Scott Sinclair took.

However, the deal was struck and Patrick Roberts moved to Manchester City for a fee said to be in the region of £8 million.

Today, speculation, as printed in The Sun, suggests that the talented young winger, who as we suspected has found first team opportunities at the Etihad very limited, is available on a loan deal.

No indications are given as to where his likely destination is to be but I can`t help thinking that perhaps Manchester City could do us a favour and let us have the youngster we groomed for stardom back at Craven Cottage for the remainder of the season.

That would make perfect sense would it not?

Sheff Utd line up third bid for Fulham defender

The Sheffield Star understands that Sheffield United are lining up a third bid to try and sign Fulham defender Dan Burn. The Blades have so far seen two bids rejected by the Craven Cottage club, but Nigel Adkins insists that he won't give up just yet.

The 23-year-old towering centre back has been an admirer of the former Reading boss for some time. Adkins is prepared to test newly-appointed Fulham head coach Slavisa Jokanovic with another offer. The defender is however enjoying a run in the team with the Championship side, so it remains to be seen if he would indeed be interested in a move away.

Adkins also hopes to add more players to his squad this month, as they look to get their latest promotion bid back on track,

"It's fair to say there are a couple of players we would like to bring in.

They are good players but it's easier said than done which is unfortunate. Things change all the time, especially at this point of the season. Players who are available are suddenly back in the team which makes them not so available."

The ex-Scunthorpe United manager and physio acknowledged that is it difficult to prize players away from their respective clubs. However he understands the power and lure a club like Sheffield United can produce.

Blyth-born Burn does have experience of League One football during a loan spell with Yeovil Town in the 2012/13 campaign. He scored in the League One Play-Off Final as he helped the club achieve promotion to the second tier for the first and only time in their history. He began his career at Darlington before joining the then-Premier League side for over £300,000 in April 2011.
