Just seen the sad news that John has passed away aged just 60.

Did not make the 75 Cup final bench when Alec Stock selected Barry Lloyd.  He did however play in the 78 Scottish League Cup final for Celtic against Rangers.

Condolences to family.  RIP John

It seems that there's a lot of people, that I was brought up adoring, now dieing
I suppose it's what's happens at this age.
Ive never, until the last few years, known so many reports of death!

RIP John and condolences to his family and friends.

Yes he was a loyal servant and a stalwart, and at only age 60, we never know when our time is up, must make the most of it, whilst we can.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Never forget your Roots.

I think it was John Dowie that supplied the cross from which John Mitchell scored the only goal in the last seconds of the semi final replay against Birmingham. He must have been gutted at losing out to Barry Lloyd as the sub. (only one was allowed in those days) in the Final.
I remember John Dowie as having silky skill but an alarming lack of pace which held him back. Sad to see him go at such a young age.
