Agree with your list Dannyboi but for us older fans I have to pop back to the 1949 promotion team and mention Pat Beasley and Len Quested, they were great.

Pleased to see Bobby Robson in the list he was as good a midfielder at the end of his playing career as he was a forward at the beginning.

Johnny Haynes, Stan Brown & Sean O'Driscoll

I feel for you putting these lists together Danny, particularly when you get so many fairly ridiculous suggestions.  Why so many are suggesting wingers for a thread where you are concentrating on central midfielders I can't begin to imagine. Also for the record Stan Brown played in just about every position on the field without specialising in any one in particular.  the ultimate utility man and a very good one too. And surely Nick Cusack played the vast bulk of his games for FFC either as a central striker or as sweeper though he certainly operated in central midfield on occasions.

Len Quested! I had him on my shortlist yesterday but the list was deleted from my phone so this morning I completely forgot him. He was in there. Probably at 10 but he should be there. I may well edit it later.

Don't know much about Beasley to be honest. Who was better of the two?

Quote from: Chutney on January 27, 2016, 09:11:59 AMSean Davis was with us through the divisions and was a major part of the team that took us to the prem, he is infinitely more worthy of a place in our top 10 than diop.

On a side note, I don't think he's top 10 material but I also loved Sylvain Legwinski!
wasn't Diop with us when we had our first ever top ten finish? Surely a much greater achievement than than our climb up the lower leagues

Didn't have time to respond earlier because of work. Diop wasn't here when we did this, it was our 3rd season in the prem at Loftus Road which was the season Saha was on fire and was sold in January.

Diop came in the first year back at the Cottage and we didn't finish in the top 10 until we finished 7th under Hodgson when Diop was long gone. So now it's a case of you defending bottom half prem finishes over someone who played in all four divisions for the club the right way around. From the bottom to the top. And yes promotion under Micky Adams in the situation we were in with no money was much greater than finishing 14th, 12th and 16th imo.

I don't get what you mean by comparing the Europa final to a 3rd division promotion?  Murphy is number 3 on the list so that shows I recognise the greatness of that year. But Diop didn't feature that season so it's irrelevant where as it's not irrelevant to point out what Davis achieved because he is unique. As far as I'm aware he is the only player in our history that has played in all 4 divisions and he scored the goal that took us to the prem as champions.

I liked Diop but top 10 midfielders in our history and comparing him to Davis is very generous. Actually imo a little silly but it's all opinions. I don't like Duff as much as most, if we all thought the same life would be boring and I'd probably still get told I was wrong

I didn't consider Houghton as a central midfielder. But 8 of your 10 means I'm on the right track. Plus Wilson possibly.  You've got to have Jim Hammond in there. I know none of us are old enough to have seen him play but the bloke scored 150 goals for the club. Which is only bettered by Bedford Jezzard, Haynes and Ivor. That has to be worth a top 10 place for individual achievement.

As for Stan Brown I wonder if you should do a best utility player chart as Stan played anywhere.

Pat Beasley was an ex Huddersfield and Arsenal left winger who came to Fulham towards the end of his career and we successfully converted him to a hard tackling left half.
Hard to choose between Quested and Beasley both were fans favourites but if really pushed would go for Quested.

Interesting looking back to the old days when we had a few successes by taking well known players from other clubs considered to be past their sell by date and often converting them from forwards to defenders and getting good service from them

For the record Quested was in my original top 10. But I deleted the draft on my phone by accident and when I posted it I completely forgot him.

Cheers for that.

John Marshall would have to be in there.

I don't recall seeing Holtby and Parker mentioned above.
