QPR 1-3 Fulham: How Whites made it look easy against hapless Hoops

It's deja vu as Jokanovic and co put the sign on Rangers after they put four past them without reply in September as well

Salute: Tom Cairney celebrates the third goal

Fulham ran amok to leave QPR fans open mouthed at the ease of this win.

No one saw it coming - but plenty saw booing Rs fans leave in their droves at half time with Whites three to the good thanks to goals from Ross McCormack, Moussa Dembele and Tom Cairney.

A late consolation from Tjaronn Chery barely raised a ripple for the home fans still in the ground.

It meant the away team coasted in the second half to only their second double of the season after Rotherham, and ease pressure at the foot of the table on a side headed towards it before this thumping win.

Fulham sensed the space behind the Rangers back four, and time and again the bisecting ball on the diagonal had a willing yellow shirt meeting it.

Early on, both sides gave as good as they got.

But Fulham were rocked when Lasse Christensen, with a litany of injuries last season, limped off barely six minutes into the game to make way for Luke Garrett.

Down and out: Massimo Luongo is tackled by Scott Parker

If anything, the switch to 3-5-2 gave Fulham the impetus, and Jamie O'Hara was through on the left to bring a good save out of Alex Smithies.

The warning signs were there for Rangers - but they didn't heed them. The diagonal pass nearly paid off a couple of times before McCormack scored.

Cairney threaded the ball through the eye of a needle for Mac the knife to run on to and fire first time past Smithies.

It got even better for the away side five minutes later.

Garbutt was given multiple goes to get away a shot on the left. Eventually, O'Hara delivered an inch perfect cross for Dembele to nod down and in with the Rs defence awol.

Yet again 3-0 came as a result of a QPR defence cut asunder.

Dembele was the provider this time sending a low shot against the far post and out to Cairney whose effort was tepid but enough to catch the knee of Grant Hall and in.

Smithies was by far the busier keeper in the second half, but Andy Lonergan earned his win bonus with a terrific close save as James Perch and Dan Burn was a lucky lad to earn only a yellow when he upended Jamie Mackie through on goal.

Chery finally netted with a neat side foot, but this was bitter blow for those in the home end.

QPR 1-3 Fulham: Slavisa Jokanovic's side earn West London derby bragging rights after first half masterclass at Loftus Road
Fulham comfortably defeated West London rivals QPR on Saturday
Ross McCormack gave the away side the lead with a powerful finish
Moussa Dembele made it two after finding space in box to head home
Tom Cairney scored the third before half time after Dembele hit the post
Tjaronn Chery netted a late consolation for QPR in stoppage time

Fulham posted a first win under Slavisa Jokanovic on Saturday as they sealed an emphatic Sky Bet Championship double over west-London rivals QPR with a 3-1 triumph at Loftus Road.

The hosts were blitzed by three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half, scored by Ross McCormack, Moussa Dembele and Tom Cairney.

Substitute Tjarron Chery netted a stoppage-time consolation for Rangers, who were otherwise dismal, as Jokanovic enjoyed victory for the first time since being appointed Fulham head coach on December 27.

McCormack, who bagged a brace in his team's 4-0 hammering of QPR in September, drifted between centre-backs Grant Hall and Nedum Onuoha to collect Cairney's clever pass and fired past Alex Smithies.

Worse followed for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side when Dembele headed home Jamie O'Hara's left-wing cross to double the visitors' lead five minutes before half-time.

And in first-half stoppage time, Cairney netted from the rebound after Dembele's shot had hit the post. Hall, in attempting to block Cairney's follow-up, inadvertently deflected the ball past Smithies, who might otherwise have made the save.

Fulham goalkeeper Andy Lonergan had gathered Matt Phillips' header from Jamie Mackie's cross early on, but after that the visitors took control.

Rangers goalkeeper Smithies saved at his near post to deny Lasse Vigen Christensen, who then went off injured after just six minutes.

Smithies also palmed the ball away to prevent an unmarked McCormack getting to a cross from O'Hara, who had a long-range effort saved, but Rangers' reprieve was only temporary and by the interval Fulham were in command.

With the game as good as lost, QPR at least mustered a determined start to the second half, and appealed in vain for a penalty when Phillips' free-kick struck Scott Parker's arm.

The home fans, who jeered their team's abject performance, also felt Dan Burn could have been red-carded for bringing down Mackie after the Fulham defender had been put in trouble by Fernando Amorebieta's loose pass.

But referee Tim Robinson felt Fulham debutant Michael Madl was close enough for Burn not to be deemed the last man, and he was shown a yellow card.

Having been a spectator for much of the game, Lonergan produced a stunning to save to keep out James Perch's header and also pushed away a powerful shot from substitute Nasser El Khayati.

Lonergan also did well to get to a low shot from Chery, who eventually found the net by rifling in from eight yards following Daniel Tozser's right-wing corner.

It denied Fulham what would have been only their third clean sheet in the league this season - one of the other two shut-outs having come in their thrashing of QPR at Craven Cottage.

Nevertheless it was a day to savour for Jokanovic's team, who won with ease.

Fulham overwhelm QPR to earn manager Slavisa Jokanovic his first win

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was stunned by QPR's dismal performance and could not explain their defeat. Rangers were blitzed by three first-half goals in a one-sided west London derby at Loftus Road with Ross McCormack, Moussa Dembélé and Tom Cairney scoring for the visitors.

The substitute Tjaronn Chery scored in the last minute for the hosts, who were unbeaten in their previous five matches.

Asked why Rangers had performed so poorly, Hasselbaink, appointed manager in December, said: "I don't know. I will have to watch the video and review it. What I do know is that it was not acceptable. The fans deserve better and we deserve better to ourselves. We had put the standard down in the previous matches and this was well under that standard. We were making steps forward and I didn't see this coming at all.

"It's two steps back. It's now about starting again, getting things right, taking responsibility and starting to look at ourselves again. I'm not going to single out individuals. We are a team, and as a team we were well under par."

McCormack, who scored twice in his team's 4-0 hammering of QPR in September, gave his side the lead in the 35th minute. He drifted between the centre-backs, Grant Hall and Nedum Onuoha, to collect Cairney's clever pass before firing past the Rangers keeper, Alex Smithies.

Worse followed for Hasselbaink's side when Dembélé headed home Jamie O'Hara's left-wing cross to double the visitors' lead five minutes before half-time. In first-half stoppage time, Cairney scored from the rebound after Dembélé's shot had hit the post. Hall, in attempting to block Cairney's follow-up, deflected the ball past Smithies, who might otherwise have made the save.

Rangers were booed by the home fans at half-time and on occasions during the second half. Hasselbaink said: "They were getting frustrated. It is what it is. Do I like it? No. Do I want them to cheer on our players? Yes, of course.

"Will getting behind the players help them play better instead of booing them? Yes. But I understand their frustration.

"Do I say they should do it [boo]? No. We need their support until the last minute. I have asked for that and will keep on asking for that. They have to be our 12th man even when things are not going right. They can lift the players. But we know how it is. Hopefully, in the next match we can put it right."

Slavisa Jokanovic, on the other hand, savoured a resounding victory – Fulham's first win since his first game in charge on 29 December, when he watched from the stands. "After a month of them suffering, I am happy for our supporters," the Serb said. "It was a great day for us and I believe we deserved that.

"At the end we didn't take the chance to get a clean sheet, but that's the only thing we could do better. We are working very hard to try to be competitive and concentrated, and this match was very positive for us.

"The players have been working very hard in training and this is good for their confidence – they can start to believe they are really good footballers and can play good football.

"This team can score goals. They scored them before I arrived. We need to find a balance and be more competitive and more solid to be a better team than we are. This is only one game. It's important now for us to keep on going and keep winning games."

QPR 1-3 Fulham - Five things we learned about Rangers after crushing defeat

This was a setback by any stretch of the imagination but there were talking points to come out of the big west London derby for Hoops

Battle: Michael Madl and Jamie Mackie

Oh dear! The Loftus Road lunchtime fare brought indigestion all round if you were a QPR fan. How did it happen? Here's how.

A decent defence up till now got found out
Hats off to Slavisa Jokanovic. The Fulham coach put speed merchant Ryan Fredericks up against Paul Konchesky - no contest.

He also made sure low balls bisecting the Rs defence gave them no time to turn and chase. You don;t want

There were loads of QPR fans who didn't see the second half
There was something of an exodus when the third Fulham goal went in, and there were scores witnessed by GetWestLondon out of the South Africa Road exits during half time.

Maybe the cost of the ticket mattered little when their side was getting mullered by the west London rivals.

Nedum Onuoha had a point even if it did cost him a yellow card
The Rangers captain was cautioned for giving referee Tim Robinson a blast when the man in green first told Scott Parker to retreat at a free-kick and did nothing about it.

Parker was out of the traps like a greyhound for a 35-year-old, but 10 yards away when the kick was taken? I don't think so.

Dan Burn of Fulham is a lucky lad
Only a yellow card to the Whites defender as he tripped Jamie Mackie with a direct line at goal? OK, Mackie isn't Usain Bolt, but the covering Fulham defender over to the right would never have go to the Rs forward before he got a lot nearer goal.

The Rs attack looked more toothless than at any time in the last month
Tjaronn Chery's goal at the end masked a performance that saw only a 70th minute header from James Perch create a flutter in the away defence.

That goalbound effort brought a terrific stop from keeper Andy Lonergan - but there was little else to trouble the Fulham keeper.

Fulham coach enjoys win over QPR but fears for injured Lasse Vigen Christensen

Whites beat Hoops 3-1 away to make it 7-1 on aggregate for the season - but coach watches midfielder suffer before latecomers take their seats

Injured: Lasse Christensen

Slavisa Jokanovic was a relieved manager as Fulham did the double over neighbours QPR - but voiced concerns over Lasse Christensen after the midfielder limped off barely six minutes into the game.

Christensen tested Rs keeper Alex Smithies with a low drive and shortly after sat down while signalling to the bench.

Last season, the Danish U21 international was beset with a litany of knocks, and Jokanovic thinks the latest setback is more of the same.

The manager said: "He has a hamstring problem. He needs a check and we will find out. It's something similar. He told me he has these problems from last season but we don't know yet."

A first win for the coach at the seventh attempt was a far cry from recent performances, but Jokanovic says the hard yards in training eventually paid off.

"There were some brilliant performances and the only disappointment is we didn't keep a clean sheet. I can be happy for my players and supporters," he said.

"You may think it was easy but the side worked very hard, and we got benefits. But it's only one game, although it's good for our confidence.

"It was my obligation to try and pick out QPR weaknesses and stop where they are strong, and I'm grateful to our fans. They supported us, and made a difference.

"After a month without a win and suffering, it's good to share it with them."

Fulham boss plans return to free-scoring form after impressive QPR victory

Fulham's Tom Cairney scores his side's third goal of the game against QPR (Adam Davy/PA Wire)

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic wants to see his side score goals on a regular basis after they romped to a 3-1 win over local rivals QPR.

The Whites blitzed Rangers with three first-half goals in a one-sided west London derby at Loftus Road, where Ross McCormack, Moussa Dembele and Tom Cairney scored for the visitors.

Substitute Tjaronn Chery netted a last-minute consolation for the hosts, who were unbeaten in their previous five matches.

The win was Fulham's first in seven games in all competitions, and manager Jokanovic was delighted to see his side bounce back after a tough run of results.

"After a month of them suffering, I am happy for our supporters," the Serbian said. "It was a great day for us and I believe we deserved that.

"At the end we didn't take the chance to get a clean sheet, but that's the only thing we could do better.

"We are working very hard to try to be competitive and concentrated, and this match was very positive for us.

Fulham outclass hapless Hoops
by DAN on FEBRUARY 13, 2016

It has been a while in coming, but the manner in which Fulham overwhelmed Queens' Park Rangers at Loftus Road this lunchtime put a huge smile on Slavisa Jokanovic's face. The Serbian's first victory since taking over at Craven Cottage back in December eased the visitors further away from the relegation zone, which loomed large after a run of one win in fifteen games, but the panache and precision of their football hinted at the depth of quality which has always lurked within this Fulham side.

Their fine run against QPR, which has seen them score 25 goals in their last ten meetings suffering just a single defeat, never truly looked in doubt after tactical tinkering that utterly befuddled Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink. Fulham switched to a 5-3-2 formation that has barely been used under Jokanovic and started far the sharper of the two sides, with the class of Tom Cairney shining through in an advanced central midfield role, whilst the experience of Jamie O'Hara and Scott Parker ensured that Rangers' plans of exploiting the fragile Fulham defence never came to fruition.

The visitors were on the front foot from the off. Lasse Vigen Christensen, whose afternoon lasted barely five minutes after he strained a hamstring in testing Alex Smithies from an acute angle, set the tone and a couple of promising breaks might have led to better with the recalled Ryan Fredericks and Jamie O'Hara sending over crosses that narrowly eluded yellow shirts in the centre. It was a surprise that Fulham had to wait until ten minutes before the break to take the lead, but the goals then came in a deluge. First, Cairney slipped a sumptuous pass between Nedum Onuouha and Grant Hall and Ross McCormack, who had darted clear with a perfectly timed run, drove a cool finish beyond Smithies.

Five minutes later, and Fulham had doubled their lead. More midfield keep-ball culminated in Jamie O'Hara delivering a dangerous cross from the left and Moussa Dembele ghosted away from the attentions of Onouha to plant a powerful far-post header into the bottom corner. In added time at the end of the first half, Jokanovic's side as good as finished the contest. A swift break down the left saw McCormack latch onto a forward ball and surge clear. The Scottish international did superbly to thread the ball through to Dembele, whose instinctive shot came back off the post, only for Cairney to poke home – with the aid of a deflection.

Fulham were assured enough in defence to deny Rangers' much of a sniff. Michael Madl put in an assured display on his debut after his loan move from Sturm Graz, although a sloppy back pass from Fernando Amorebieta could have easily led to a red card for Dan Burn after he slid in to bring down Jamie Mackie. Referee Tim Robinson deemed the covering Madl to be close enough to consider the offence worthy of only a caution, but the dismissal of Burn might have brought about the kind of game-changing moment QPR required. As it worse, the home side's second half improvement was measured by three fine saves from Andy Lonergan to claw away James Perch's header, a low drive from Tjarron Chery and a powerful effort from Nasser El Khayati.

The visitors were denied their third clean sheet of the season when they switched off at a corner in second half stoppage-time. Daniel Tözsér's threatening delivery went all the way through to substitute Chery, who swivelled and buried a low shot beyond Lonergan from eight yards out, but it was scant consolation for QPR, who were thoroughly outplayed. Jokanovic's charges should comfortably avoid the drop if they replicate this level of performance over the next few weeks – but the Serbian's long-term challenge will be to find the kind of consistency that will have them challenging at the other end of the table.

QUEENS PARK RANGERS (4-4-2): Smithies; Perch, Konchesky, Onouha, Hall; Luongo, Tözsér, Phillips (Chery 76), Hoilett (El Khayati 53); Mackie, Polter (Washington 45). Subs (not used): Ingram, Hill, Henry, Petrasso.

BOOKED: Burn, O'Hara.

Queens Park Rangers suffered a 3-1 defeat to Fulham in the Championship on Saturday.

Former Aston Villa midfielder Paul Mortimer said on BBC Radio London on Saturday afternoon that he feels sorry for Queens Park Rangers fans.

Mortimer made the comment during the closing stages of the Championship game between QPR and Fulham at Loftus Road.

Rangers lost the London derby 3-1, with some fans leaving the stadium before the final whistle.

"You can feel sorry for the QPR fans," said former Charlton Athletic midfielder Mortimer on BBC Radio London. "They cannot keep possession and the quality is of such a poor standard."

First-half goals from Ross McCormack, Moussa Dembele and Tom Cairney saw Fulham go 3-0 up, with Tjaronn Chery pulling one back for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's side in the 91st minute.

Over the course of the 90 minutes at Loftus Road, hosts QPR had 40% of the possession, took 11 shots of which six were on target, and earned six corners.

Visitors Fulham had 60% of the possession, took 16 shots of which nine were on target, and earned five corners.

QPR will return to action next weekend when they take on Bolton Wanderers away from home at the Macron Stadium in the Championship.

3 Arsenal players Fulham should sign in the emergency loan window – Do you agree?

With Fulham precariously sitting in 17th position, only six points above the relegation zone, manager Slaviša Jokanović may look to the emergency loan market as a means of bolstering the squad and ensuring that the club isn't embroiled in a relegation scrap.

Since Jokanović has taken over at the club, there has been an upturn in form, but the West London club remain looking over their shoulders as Jokanović has inherited an unbalanced side.

Fulham did well in the January transfer window, not in terms of acquisitions but by keeping their best players at the club, notably Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele.

Both have been firing this season, they've netted 26 goals between them, but it has been defensively where they've been let down.

Arsenal have a wealth of talent in their youth teams and reserves, and Fulham may look to entice some of the young talents to club on loan with the promise of regular first team football.

Arsene Wenger has earned huge respect and credibility with the development of young players, and he may look to loan out some of the young players to gain experience. Also, if it is a London-based club, then he can keep a close eye on them.

FootballLeagueWorld writer Elliott Wheat-Bowen identifies THREE Arsenal players that could join Fulham on loan...

Tafari Moore

With the defensive issues underpinning Fulham's struggle this season, Tafari Moore may be the ideal signing.

Moore impressed heavily in the 2013/14 season and, although he has been suffering injuries which have hampered his progress this season, he is still an excellent young defender who would be a real asset to the team.

At Arsenal, he is highly thought of and regarded as a 'no nonsense' defender. He has featured primarily for the Under-21s as a right-back, and he heavily impressed in Arsenal's UEFA Youth League campaign.

It is not only his defensive ability that makes him such a hot prospect, but his marauding runs down the flank are also a big feature of his game.

He has developed into a very well-rounded full-back and a loan move will see him develop even more.

Krystian Bielik

Fulham easily have one of the most exciting and technical midfields in the Championship, however it has often been hindered by the lack of a holding midfielder.

Although Scott Parker is still at the club, the veteran midfielder has looked off the pace and lethargic, and has often slowed Fulham down on the counter attack.

Krystian Bielik would slot into the midfield perfectly.

At 6ft 2″, he has the frame and physicality to thrive in such a competitive league.

Although he is renowned for his ability to tackle and break the up the play, he also has the technical ability on the ball to transition defence into attack and launch counter attacks with a single pass.

Bielik has featured for Arsenal in the 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in the Capital One Cup and, despite the disappointing result, he particularly impressed coming off the bench, and I think he'd develop into an excellent player given competitive first-team football on a regular basis.

Jeff Reine-Adelaide

The final potential loan signing is a player that has been on the periphery of Arsenal's matchday squad but could do with a loan move.

Since joining Arsenal from RC Lens in the summer, Reine-Adelaide has impressed.

Featuring in both of the Emirates Cup matches, he showed his ability and raw potential which Wenger will look to nurture.

In a short period of time, he showed that he possessed athleticism, pace and excellent technical abilities with close ball control – all these attributes being quintessential to being successful in England.

Reine-Adelaide could be an astute signing for Fulham due to his versatility. He can play on either wing, and Wenger also believes Reine-Adelaide could be effectively deployed as a central midfielder.

Jokanović may look to bring him in as another attacking option but also as cover. If any of Fulham's key players were to get injured, then it could derail their season and see them plummet into the midst of a relegation battle. Rene-Adelaide would provide capable cover and also gain experience at a higher level than at youth team level.

Cottagers boss delighted with "brilliant" Fulham performance

Slavisa Jokanovic took his first win as Fulham manager in a thumping 3-1 victory over QPR at Loftus Road.

The victory vaults Jokanovic's side five points above the Championship relegation zone, as goals from Ross McCormack, Moussa Dembele and Tom Cairney secured The Cottagers' first win in six games.

Speaking to Fulham's club website, Jokanovic's only criticism was his side's inability to keep a clean sheet, after QPR's Tjaronn Chery found the net late on to bag The Hoops a consolation goal.

"We put in some brilliant performances to win the match,

"The only disappointing thing was at the end when we conceded so didn't keep a clean sheet. We can do better but at the end I can be happy for my players and our supporters."

Jokanovic was appointed Fulham boss on 27 December after previous manager Kit Symons was dismissed in November. The Serbian was responsible for leading Watford to Championship promotion and the Premier League in the 2014/15 season, however never had a chance to manage The Hornets in the top flight.

Despite lying 18th in the table, Fulham have had little difficult finding the net, scoring 47 goals in 30 games this campaign, level on goals scored with league leaders Hull City. However, The Cottagers' defense is far less impressive, currently boasting the fourth worst goals against total, having conceded a dismal 50 goals in 30 games. On his side's need to find an attacking and defensive balance, Jokanovic commented:

"This team can score goals, they did before I arrived here, but we need to find the balance to be more solid in defence."

The Serbian coach was eager to praise Fulham's travelling support, who filled out the Loftus Road away section as expected when two fierce inner-city rivals clash.

"We had a lot of support which is important for us. They pushed us and they enjoyed it today. After suffering without winning it's a great day for us."

Fulham will be hoping this impressive victory can provide them with the momentum they need to edge clear of relegation danger, with The Whites' next fixture coming at Ewood Park on Tuesday against Blackburn.

QPR v Fulham: Five things we learned about Whites after terrific win over Rangers

It's a bumper away day for 2,800 Cottage fans - but after everyone digested a great win what were the major talking points and how comes it was 3-1?

Back up: Jamie O'Hara shields from Daniel Tozser

Who saw that coming?

Fulham did a number on QPR to record only their second double of a tortured season. It looked as if the team in away yellow were actually in the top two and about to return to the Premier League rather than languishing in the bottom half.

Who would have thought Slavisa Jokanovic would have to wait so long for a first win? Here are the reasons for his debut victory.

It was an ill wind that blew Fulham a heap of good
Sure, the Whites lost Lasse Christensen after just six minutes, but with Luke Garbutt as replacement it meant they could play two wing backs and leave just a three at the back.

Boy, did they plunder the width and space afforded them by a Rangers space at sixes and sevens after the shift in formation.

Rs defender was right - you can't give Ross McCormack an inch in the box
James Perch feared what might happen if Whites leading scorer was left unmarked. Cue Mac the knife and 1-0 on 35 minutes.

Twist: Fernando Amorebieta (R) holds off the challenge of James Perch

This could be the start of something big, there again...
When Fulham beat QPR in September they lost the next one 3-0 to Wolves - and that was at home too.

Sorry to dampen the delight of a terrific win, but the game that will really determine progress alluded to by Slavisa Jokanovic is at Blackburn on Tuesday night.

A result against a so-so Rovers, now shorn of hotshot Jordan Rhodes, and Whites can start to really look up and not down.

Promising debut for Michael Madl
A lot was said about Fulham sweeping forward, but the new man from the Austrian League was an unheralded force at the back.

Maybe it helped that the loanee was oblivious to the hullabaloo of a derby and that entails.

But he and Dan Burn rarely looked stretched.

For a club with no win in six - it says much that there were 2,800 Whites at Loftus Road
You could argue it was down the road, but it was still a decent turnout in the away School End. A goal helps, but it sounded pretty much even Steven after that in terms of vocal support - and there were 14,500 in blue and white hoops.

QPR Humbled by Fearsome Fulham

QUEENS Park Rangers were blown away in a desperately poor opening period by neighbours Fulham.

Rangers failed to get into the encounter and were made to pay by free-scoring front duo Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele as they dominated all departments in a one-sided encounter.

Tom Cairney rounded off the rout before the break as the home fans voiced their views against a thoroughly ineffective and turgid display by the home side.

Tjaronn Chery put an element of respectability on the scoreline but it scarcely papered over the cracks of a breathtakingly poor display in the early kick off in W12.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink made two changes from the side that claimed victory over Ipswich Town. Conor Washington dropped to the bench after rolling his ankle in the win, while Ale Faurlín missed out with a groin injury - they were replaced by Jamie Mackie and Daniel Tozser respectively.

Alex Smithies therefore lined up behind a back four of James Perch, Nedum Onuoha, Grant Hall and Paul Konchesky. The midfield quartet comprised of Matt Phillips, Tozser, Massimo Luongo and Junior Hoilett with Mackie partnering Sebastian Polter up top.

Fulham adopted a 3-5-2 formation with Michael Madl making his debut for the Cottagers. He joined Dan Burn and Fernando Amorebieta at the heart defence, with Andy Lonergan between the sticks. Ryan Fredricks and Lasse Vigen Christensen sat in the wing-back berths.

Scott Parker, Tom Cairney and Jamie O'Hara in midfield while Ross McCormack and Moussa Dembele linked up in attack.

The way this encounter was being billed one would be forgiven for thinking the pair were bitter rivals going back decades. In truth this is a derby more in convenience of mileage that any real bitter history or track record. Nevertheless the prospects of the sides going forward were quite similar, with Fulham potentially more entrenched in the relegation mire than the hosts.

Rangers carved out the first chance of the game when Jamie Mackie streaked away down the left and his right-footed cross picked out Massimo Luongo - the Australian only able to dolly a tame header into the arms of the experienced Lonergan.

Fulham struck back within moments as Lasse Vigen Christensen dissected the Rangers rearguard, walking through Luongo and James Perch before forcing a smart save from Alex Smithies at his near post. It was his last action of the game however as Luke Garbutt replaced the wing-back, leaving the field with a hamstring complaint.

The initial intent from Rangers to put the visitors on the back foot soon subsided as Fulham took a grip of the fixture. The home side were starved of the ball and looking long into the channels for the majority of their attacking threat - willing chaser Mackie and the sizeable Polter the marksmen.

Smithies needed to be at his best shortly before 20 minutes as Tom Cairney's defence splitting pass found Jamie O'Hara - his enticing centre was tipped away by the QPR stopper at the feet of McCormack. The aforementioned O'Hara then chanced his arm from distance, only for a tame effort to be collected by Smithies.

Cairney and O'Hara appeared to have the running of the fixture with Rangers chasing shadows for the most part. Hoilett and Phillips were once again anonymous in their respective wide-berths and appeared to be confusingly treading on each other`s toes for sections of the opening period.

A glut of defensive errors eventually led to the opener for the visiting side. It was Cairney and O'Hara once more linking up nicely - it was Cairney who laid a slide-rule pass for ROSS McCORMACK to latch onto. In behind Grant Hall he finished with aplomb from just outside the six-yard box.

There could be zero question that of the two sides, Fulham considered this more of a derby fixture - bodies thrown on the line to stop shots at point-blank range. Rangers meanwhile were lacklustre, snatching at possession and unable to provide any chances of note against a side with only two clean sheets this campaign. Hoilett epitomising this by firing a weak left-footed daisy cutter wide of Lonergan's upright - much to the delight of the visiting support populating the School End.

It was no surprise therefore that the visitors doubled a deserved lead with the most routine of goals. When a free-kick was only half cleared a second deep cross found MOUSSA DEMBELE fairly incredibly unmarked in the heart of the six-yard box to nod beyond Smithies.
It could be argued that Smithies could have come and claimed, indeed also that Onuoha could have marked more than thin air - but nevertheless no-one could argue that Fulham were the deserved leaders, serving to underline what a poor performance it had been from the home side.

Fulham took advantage once more as QPR once again displayed a breathaking lack of professionalism and concentration in the closing stages. A high and hopeful over the top from Garbutt to McCormack saw him hold the ball up and slide in Dembele - the forward clipped the post with his effort only for Hall and Konchesky to play musical statues at the critical moment, allowing TOM CAIRNEY to slot home with effortless ease.

A chorus of boos greeted the players as they left the field for half time - Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink with everything to do even to salvage pride from a fixture where Rangers had sunk, quickly. Scoreline aside, Rangers playing a two man central midfield against a dominant three-man Fulham without a holding midfielder or a ball-winner was boarderline suicidal, and so it proved.

Hasselbaink has been implored by sections of support to revert to two in attack, but with both starved of service and opting for supposed creativity in the heart of midfield over a stronger holding midfield ultimately helped to secure Rangers' disastrous half time scoreline.

HALF TIME: QPR 0-3 FULHAM

Hasselbaink responded by throwing on Conor Washington at the expense of Sebastian Polter. The home start came out the blocks flying - no doubt with more than a flea in their ear. Mackie making a lung-busting run only for Hoilett to be hauled down outside the area. Parker managed to find himself two yards from the ball to block a tame effort and Onuoha was booked for his protestations.

The game then started to take on a similar pattern - O'Hara once again determined to get his name on the scoresheet, but a tame effort at Smithies was all the former Tottenham man could muster. With Fulham starting to dominate the pitiful Hoilett was replaced by Nasser El-Khayati less than ten minutes into the half.

O'Hara missed a guilt-edge opportunity as Rangers once again made Fulham look like Barcelona. Neat interplay on the edge of the area allowed the midfielder all the time in the world to pick his spot - he placed wide albeit from an offside position - Fulham firmly dominating proceedings in W12.

Phillips created something of note on the hour mark when his run and weak left-footed drive was easily stopped by the underworked Lonergan, only for Fulham to miss another fine change to make it four - a centre from O'Hara was rather pathetically cleared by Perch into the path of substitute Garbutt, but the Everton loanee fired wide with his weaker right boot.

Perch epitomised the selfishness of some of the Rangers players when he went flying into a challenge of the halfway line with little regard to anyone covering him. It gave Garbutt the freedom of the left-flank to pick out a cross, Dembele then selflessly offloaded to Cairney, who only found Smithies between the sticks. This could have been a cricket score had Fulham not kindly left their shooting boots in the dressing room after a rout of an opening period.

Dan Burn should probably have been given his marking orders shortly after the hour mark when a slack pass from Amorebieta saw Mackie edge the ball past Burn only to be hacked down. Referee Robinson weighed up his options before giving a booking. The distance from goal was probably Burn's only saving grace. El-Khayati's deep cross from the left narrowly evaded Perch with the resultant set-piece seeing Perch's powerful header smartly saved by Lonergan.

Smithies had to be alert when McCormack attempted an audacious effort. Following a break-down from his near post corner, the free-scoring front-man whipped an effort back in under Smithies' bar, only to be denied by the former Huddersfield man.

Rangers made their final change with Tjaronn Chery coming on for the breathtakingly disappointing Matt Phillips. Scott Parker was also withdrawn with Brighton loanee Rohan Ince coming on in his stead. El-Khayati forced Lonergan into a stop on the 80 minute mark - a fine drive stung the palms of the underworked Lonergan.

Chery then tried his luck from distance - a speculative left-footed shot falling well wide of Lonergan's right upright. Tom Cairney tried a similarly ambitious effort that reached the upper tier of the School End before Dembele left the field to be replaced by Emerson Hyndman.

Chery then came close to reducing the arrears with minutes remaining when his snap-shot forced Lonergan into a smart save low to his left. Then a little reward for those that stayed through the sinking of the Titanic as TJARONN CHERY latched onto a half cleared corner to curl home inside the six yard box.

Rangers limped out a fixture that was truly beyond their reach in an astoundingly poor opening half as Fulham take away a deserved three point from Loftus Road.

FULHAM THRASH QPR ~ CH. MATCH REPORT MD30

I especially like the photo of the Demeble goal. That was good enough but off to the side take a look at Dan Burn. He's at full stretch, totally committed to getting to the ball and with an intense look on his face that can only be described as "eye of the tiger". This lad is a future captain.
Its not that I could and others couldn't.
Its that I did and others didn't.
