New Goalkeeping coach-why now?

Bit puzzled by the timing. I thought we had a GK coach in Vic Bettinelli, so why bring on another now. No point in teaching Lonergan and Marcus Bettinelli how to command the penalty area by going for crosses etc now, with 9 games to go, as changing their habits of a lifetime will be even more disastrous defensively than things are currently (also may have confused Lonergan as his shot stopping in the last 2 games been below par). OK to do that in the close season though. Just have to put up with the fact that both are decent shot stoppers and get Burn etc to clear the high balls, and sort a commanding keeper in the close season for next year.

Vic Bettinelli is the academy goalkeeping coach. The goalkeeper coach within the first team was Martin Brennan, who took the goalkeepers at Under 21 previously.

We don't know the situation. Could be a case of Martin Brennan leaving, hence Tim Flowers until the end of the season. Better coaching and tutelage is useful no matter the timing. To argue otherwise is essentially arguing no use for goalkeeping coach, "do it yourselves lads."

I think Marcus is much better in the penalty box than Andy Lonergan. Bettinelli may not be a Schwarzer like in catching the ball, but at least he competes for the punch. Lonergan stays rooted to the line and invites pressure onto everyone. How often do you hear defenders praise a vocal, dominant and trustworthy goalkeeper? Lonergan is not that goalkeeper. Bettinelli could be.

Anyone can blend into the crowd.  How will you standout when it counts?

Watching TF put the young goalkeeper through paces before the other two came out, was very impressive, really made the lad sweat.
