Fulham owner Khan pledges transfer "green light" in aim for Premier League promotion

Fulham has done some magnificent things in the 2000s, something owner Shahid Khan probably expected to continue when he took over in 2013.

Instead, Khan got one year of Premier League football, a season that involved three managers and a lot of tumult en route to relegation.

Now after two seasons of failing to bounce back to the top flight, Khan is pledging to support manager into 2016-17 with the aims of returning to the Premier League.

In a message to season ticket holders on Fulham's site, Khan said the following regarding the team under former Watford manager Slaviša Jokanović, who took over Fulham on Dec. 27:

Slaviša will be given the green light to build a team capable of promotion, and that's important, because it appears the Sky Bet Championship will be as difficult as ever.

The complete support and passion of our loyal fans will be crucial as we begin our first full season under Slaviša's direction and take aim at promotion, and that's why season ticket prices will not increase next season. We want and need you with us!

Fulham is in the Championship's 21st place, nine points clear of the drop zone but 23 points off the promotion playoff pace. That's 39 points away from the automatic promotion spots, so smart buys and plenty will be needed to improve the club for a run at the Premier League (especially with at least two sizable clubs joining the Championship next season in Aston Villa and Sunderland and/or Newcastle United).

The Cottagers, in the past sometimes described as "Fulhamerica", have a pair of American players in Emerson Hyndman and Tim Ream, though the former is expected to move onto greener pastures in the summer. U-21 midfielder Luca de la Torre is another Yank at Craven Cottage.

Capital Gains

As Fulham look to navigate another London derby without defeat on Saturday, we look back at how the Whites have fared in the previous five capital fixtures this season.

Fulham 4-0 QPR – 25.09.15

Fulham's wonderful home record against our neighbours from W12 continued in the first derby of the season, as Queens Park Rangers were blown away in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Less than two minutes had been played when Moussa Dembélé nodded in a pinpoint James Husband cross, and the game was still in its infancy when Ben Pringle lashed in a second from the edge of the box.

Ross McCormack put the finishing touch to a slick team move on the half hour mark, and the same man added some gloss to the score in the second half when he bundled the ball home in front of the Hammy End.

The result meant that the aggregate scoreline from this fixture over the past three meetings reads: Fulham 13-2 QPR.

Charlton 2-2 Fulham – 04.10.15

A frustrating afternoon in South-East London, which was again televised, saw Fulham squander a two-goal lead to draw at The Valley.

Ryan Tunnicliffe's first goal for the Club had set the team on their way when he tapped in after goalkeeper Nick Pope could only parry McCormack's long-range free-kick.

McCormack's accurate left-footed finish just before the hour mark looked to have settled matters, but the Addicks pulled one back late on through substitute Johnnie Jackson's first touch when he headed in from a corner.

And the pressure exerted by the home side paid off in the sixth minute of stoppage time when Jordan Cousins headed in a cross from the right.

Fulham 2-2 Brentford – 12.12.15

Fulham secured a point against the Bees for the first time since 1998 when the sides met at the Cottage in mid-December.

The visitors went ahead early on after Jazz Richards was controversially adjudged to have brought down Jake Bidwell in the box. The Brentford left-back didn't even appeal for the spot-kick but it was given nonetheless, with Alan Judge dispatching it successfully.

James Tarkowski nodded into his own net to restore parity five minutes before the break, and Dembélé completed the turnaround in the second half after collecting McCormack's pass and toeing a strike beyond David Button.

But Fulham were unable to hold out and a corner was their undoing once again, as Jack O'Connell bundled in at the back stick following Tarkowski's flick-on.

QPR 1-3 Fulham – 13.02.16

A blistering first half display sent Fulham on their way to completing a league double over the Hoops, securing Slaviša Jokanović's first victory in the process.

We had to wait until the 35th minute for the breakthrough, though, when McCormack latched onto Tom Cairney's cute pass before ramming a shot beyond Alex Smithies.

Dembélé headed in a perfect Jamie O'Hara cross five minutes later to double the advantage, and Cairney scrambled the ball in during stoppage time to all but kill the game before the break.

It was a quieter affair in the second half, although QPR did manage to take some gloss off the result by denying the Whites a clean sheet when Tjaronn Chery netted in added time.

Fulham 3-0 Charlton – 20.02.16

A Cairney-inspired Fulham took struggling Charlton apart at Craven Cottage in our most recent London derby.

The midfielder demonstrated excellent technique in the 32nd minute to find the top corner with his supposedly weaker right foot after former Addicks man Scott Parker had rattled the crossbar.

Half-time introduction Michael Madl headed in his maiden goal for the Club just before the hour mark when he connected with a McCormack corner, marking the first time Fulham had scored from an indirect set-piece this season.

And Cairney made sure of the three points late on when he sent a stunning, dipping volley into the bottom corner from 20 yards out.
