Thank you Ross on multiple fronts

I'm in the middle of nowhere in the outback of oz but trusting what I have read Ross has gone. I believe he has kept usnupntwo seasons in a row and the "ridiculous" fee we paid for him now seems great business. I am not happy he has gone, the reverse, but he was brilliant whilst here. The nature of his stats, goals and assists is a sign of how good and unselfish he is. As mentioned on another thread by someone he signed a new deal that insured we either kept him or we both got a great deals out of it. We invested when parachute payments were high, he did a lot to keep us up and we have sold him for a profit. With the new playing style it sounds we are trying he probably wasn't the best fit (I'd still keep him). I wish him luck and thank him for his services. A good deal all round

Yes, a great two seasons from Ross. I bet we fail to sign a twenty goal a season replacement.

I would say it is virtually impossible to sign a player guaranteeing 20 goals a season, all you can do is hope.

The only reason i see him going to Villa is for the money, because i would have thought at this moment they are not much if any better than us.

Here here! Finally someone being sensible and not hating. Would anyone of guessed that transfer would've worked out that way? People laughed at us for spending so much but 42 goals in 100 games has been a pleasure to watch and good value all told. We even made a million and he's only getting older/slower/less sharp. Face it people we got the man at his peak AND made a profit. Onwards!

Gotta thank the guy as he kept us up twice. I doubt Villa will go up but they are a huge club and it's his last move so I see the draw.
First game: Fulham 4 Burnley 0, December 12th 1998.

ross? the only decent thing in the last two years. He was a pleasure to watch and a cut above virtually everyone else I have seen in the Championship. Unless he is carrying an injury (like saha when we sold him) the letting hiom go is a miserable error of judgment from a management team that specialism in getting it wrong.

Whoever we may or may not be still be bringing in, we would have been substantially better off keeping ross. Just my opinion.  and even if we end up champions and promoted I will remain with the view he made us better, I wish him luck and good fortune except in the two games against us.

I agree. Good luck to him. One of the best players we've had down here in recent years. Always stepped up to the mark and delivered what was required of him. Not really his fault that his end product failed to bring with it any success on the field.
An excellent deal for the club. 40+ goals and a decent profit.

Apart from the money, which we hope will be wisely spent, I see a couple of benefits from his departure:
1. Losing his rather unusual skills will necessitate a change of playing style. Not per se a good thing. but in this case the old style was so obviously a failure that any change is to be welcomed.

2. I was a bit disturbed when Mr Barry Hughes emerged as a central figure in the enquiry into Leeds' part in the Ross transfer. He was or wasn't (the enquiry continues) the recipient of a large sum of money in connection with the deal. The same Mr Hughes was reported to have been a guest at Ross's wedding - "The ceremony, which took place at sunset on Sunday, was attended by 70 guests including McCormack's Fulham teammates and his agent Barry Hughes.". Now we know that he isn't Ross's agent. That's the whole point of the League enquiry into the previous deal. Hughes  is not a licenced agent. He is, however, variously described in the press as 'ex-boxing promoter', 'fraudster' (he has convictions for this) and 'gangster'. Look him up. Now, I know that the culture of Glasgow is rather different from that of Tunbridge Wells, but on the whole I'd rather such folk were not seen as close acquaintances of our players.

Thanks Ross for 2 brilliant years and good luck apart from when you face us.
Moneywise good business for club bearing in  mind  his age and longterm sell on value.

IMO any of the Villa team would automatically get a start in ours.
Never ever bloody anything ever.

Good luck to him. If our new defence lets in 20 goals fewer McCormack´s goals will not be missed.

If the defence let in 20 fewer and we still had his 20 goals
we would be a lot better off..

I don't want a 20 goal a season striker as the main threat. I would rather we had 4 players (or more) with 10+ goals per season hopefully that is what Slav is building. Aluko, Cairney, Ruiz Ayite and a new striker should be capable.

Shame to lose Ross though.

As well as his wonderful finishing and clever play he made others around him look better than they were. Dembele for instance. So it is with a heavy heart that I wish him well and thanks for being the best thing about Fulham since relegation.

We will not find a 20 goal a season replacement. But we may find a couple of players that will make the TEAM play better. Remember how we still struggled with Ross in the side. Well think not of the goals we will miss but the pace and team work we will now hopefully have.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Ross will always be one of my favourite Fulham players , just a pity he played for us at such a unsuccessful period.  Rather an oddity with Ross is that his transfer fee seems to go up the older he gets - usually its the other way round. I'm hoping Tom Cairney makes more of an impact this season . Hes a great player and scored some good goals but I feel he did not quite deliver as he should  last year . He  may not always been 100% fit of course.

Ha if only ruiz was being sneaked back into the team! Totally agree with you though.

You cant  deny the goals and assists in that repect he was excellent. The problem was there was constantly encouraged interest from other clubs ,which he milked .
We gave him 3 new contracts and high wages and that still wasnt good enough, so he did the same as at his last 3 clubs ,pushed for a move. WE got an excellent deal from his transfer and can now play with 1 up front if we choose, which will mean we dont get overrun every game in midfield.
Do I wish him well ,yes , but i cant help feeling that there will be lots of earcupping going on if he scores against us, so I also feel we are well rid of a player ,good though he is who took up too much space . Ther is  no `I in team.

Ross is team cancer - good riddance.
