I just posted this as part of a message on the Transfer thread. 
It would probably have been more relevant here, so I hope you don't mind me doing the lazy man's thing of cutting and pasting it here.

It is typical of us fans to suddenly go over the top. Joka hasn't done anything yet. Last season he proved that he could do as badly as Symons. This season he has lost patience in one Interview and yet everything seems to be working off the pitch.  We have started well and Joka seems to have coached the whole squad into great improvement.

But shall we wait until we continue this improvement for a few months as opposed to a few weeks. Plus he has a reputation of moving clubs. So while we look great at the moment. I am waiting for the consistency to last and to see his reaction to problems. We love him at the moment and he has done a great job. But let's hang on a little before we crown him our saviour.

I don't see any good reason to assess his impact until at least Christmas/January window. We will have slogged our way thru playing most of the clubs in the league by then and will have a good idea how things are going on the pitch. That'll likely also be plenty of time for the club and coach to understand how they are going to get along.

Given what's been said by Jim Woodcock (think that's his name anyway) - that Khan went to great lengths to get Slavisa to join the club - I can't imagine that thoughts of extending his contract haven't already begun.

In his defense though, he was supposedly willing to settle in with Watford until negotiations over a pay raise fell apart. And he did do his best (I admittedly assume based upon what I've seen, heard and read about him) to get Maccabi one step further in their Champions League quest before leaving to join us. Not the best case for loyalty, I know, but not so bad either.

Hmm, we wait and it's too late - he's been poached and then everyone can have another at Khan, Rigg etc
Or we sign the best manager we have had for a long time to a long term contracts?

When he signed, I remember him saying that he wanted to stay for a very long time....I can only assume that he is very obviously in constant dialogue with the club, and will probably sign a new contract in the early new year (unless of course we go into decline on the pitch)

Think Jokanovic is in a new Honeymoon period at the moment, hold off until Christmas, see how he moulds the new intakes. Last season his honeymoon period didn't take off (everyone has their own opinions on that, why he failed) there was no new manager revival when he took over.

At present most teams are still bedding in new players and coaches & managers are unfamiliar with how opponents play, give them till end of October to study videos and it might be different story for a few teams.
Long way to go yet but a bright start gives us hope.

i often wonder what khan must have thought of symons. even khan must have thought he was an idiot.

Is that really necessary? Kit's record last season was better or about level with Joka's last season. He revived us after the debacle of Magath. We were higher up the table when he left than we were at the end. Who knows what constraints he had on transfers. A few weeks ago, many on here were of the view that the coach had little say in transfers. Kit achieved more in football than anyone on this message board, so why not show a little respect?

Think back to Symons and why and when was he sacked?
During the international break and w ewere told it was because we were not in playoff position.

Maybe that's the touch point for this season and any contract talks. The next International break.

A plus to this is that IF he got us promoted I do believe Khan would reward with a higher wage/better contract. I believe Khan will reward success and a manager meeting targets.

I can understand why there is a call to reward SJ with a contract extension this early in the season, and its because we've made a great start, and he's shown himself to be his own man. His passion both on the field and off it is both clear to see and genuine (his screaming at a linesman at the 'Boro game proved his grasp of anglo-saxon vocabulary is very good) and we, who are hungry for passion and success from our team, will naturally reward that with such calls.

Stability is a good thing, we have to balance the desire to 'wait and see' with the certainty of having a longer contract.  He has a team of (in the most part) his own making, and has had one of the best /most shrewd transfer windows for many a season.

We shouldn't compare him with Kit Symons.  KS was untried, learned in the role and proved risk averse and predictable when things went against him. Further he lost credibility with the fans when insisting the team was improving.  That said, he steadied the ship after the previous disaster, and laid the foundations for SJ.  SJ of course has led a (fairly average) Championship team to promotion and I suspect is regretful that he didn't have a chance to prove himself in the Premier League (for whatever reason).  I doubt he would pass up that opportunity again.

For the first time since Roy, I both like and respect our Fulham manager.

I'll add that if Mo had been in a different frame of mind regarding maintaining ownership of the club, we could have easily been saying that about Mark Hughes. All he wanted was to be backed well enough to succeed with our club.

I am personally unable to see any foundations in pattern of play, tactics or players which Kit left for Slavisa to pick up. Unless you mean foundations that we were more stable.

This is probally why things are looking up, apart from Scott and a few others there is no symbols of that period of demise.

Things are looking really good just now and we are, quite rightly, all behind Jocanovic but remember he didn't get good performances from the players last season, did worse than Kit in fact. Let us hope the present form continues and that we are in a high league position come Christmas but we should wait a while before assuming that we have a guaranteed savior in Jocanovic.
