Death certificates give the short-term cause, e.g.  pneumonia, plus the long-term one, e.g. leukaemia.

History repeats in that Derby were involved in the immediate or "proximate" cause of our failure to win promotion under Malcolm Macdonald in the early 80s.  But it would not have come down to that last match of the season had we not lost our winning ways weeks earlier, which in turn related to squad thinness and lack of recruitment. That was the underlying cause of our failure to make it.

So here, anger in the immediate term with the same club and its player.  They are the proximate causes to name and blame.  The longer-term reasons for our vulnerablity lie closer to home.

Oh dear we are outright losers in this mess.
It is the unacceptable face of Fulhamish.

It's been reported t Martin wanted Fulham to pay the same as Derby were offering - and they refused, so he refused to play.
So money seems to behind all this.

Now he's our player until the end of the season, when he goes back to Derby - obviously  doesn't seem right, but Fulham have made a stance, and if he plays he will be expected to give his all, though fans will obviously have no mercy  at the slightest perceived lack of effort on his part -however many more games he plays for us.

This whole situation just reeks of incompetence.

Unfortunately as has been said we have left ourselves in a right mess. 2 days left of the January transfer window, which is notoriously difficult to sign decent players at reasonable prices, without a real striker.

We should have got to grips with this in early january after he had already gone on strike. A new striker was desperately needed for competition, let alone anything else. We 'surely' should have known not to trust CM, and that he'd stay loyal for the rest of the season..

Someone should ask him whether he'd be happy to help fulham to promotion at the expense of Derby. Of course he wouldn't.
He just cannot be played anymore

A really good post. Thanks for that.

Erudite and accurate response as ever from B&W. I said much the same but nowhere near as succinctly as this

Our best outcome is to play Martin when we need him, get into the playoffs and promotion and hope that Derby fail in their same endeavor -
Martin and his manager will be left to rue what could have been.

Unfortunately we have hardly been the Cinderella team whereby such dreams reach reality, oh well ..........  :dead horse:
Logical is just in the name - don't expect it has anything to do with my thought process, because I AM the man who sold the world.
