Nice little note from the BBC on Fulham this year:

"Fulham have attempted a league-high 456 shots in total this season in the Championship. They also have the best average possession figure (61.7%), best passing accuracy (83.1%) and the highest average of successful passes per game (470)."
Someone once asked me, "Why Fulham?".
My response, "Well, lad, you just haven't seen the light yet"

Nice to know but how many of those 456 shots were on target or more importantly cleanly struck ?

Just saying !

We really are on the brink of a very special era for the Club.  Of course there will always be those who want it to be perfect all the time which it never is except in the articles and books some people will read in fifty years rime.

I appreciate that looking at the big picture everything is looking good and there's potential for better to come and I'm just looking at this from a marginal gains point of view, not slagging anyone off.

As an example, during the last 4 league games the stats show 70 shots on goal (brilliant) only 19 on target (poor) leading to 4 goals (not great) and this doesn't take into account the shots on target that are miss hit due to poor technique or whatever !

With all those shots and the general composure of the players elsewhere on the pitch, just one goal more in each of the Reading and QPR games would see us in the top 6 tonight if we win today but of course I admit that's all ifs and buts.

But it does highlight an area that we are not making the most of, they call it "marginal gains" and if we can improve the shooting technique of some players when under pressure it will result in an improved points tally without any major changes to the already well oiled team!

Just looking at it from an other angle, that's all !

I think there has been a misunderstanding, the 456 shots they are talking about is the number of shots the Board members drink at the bar at half time on match days.
But that cannot be correct as legend has it that our Board members do not attend our matches. Well not every year.

Blimey, when I read the the title, I thought the club had been arrested!!!

As with most deficiencies we have seen (notably in defensive vulnerability on the break) SJ will work on and improve it.  At least we are able to create opportunities to shoot and if some are wide or high or are blocked then that is the name of the game.   Confidence builds composure and the players are truly starting to believe.  It can only be a matter of time before we start hitting the target much more frequently than we don't.  To me it is like Martin penalty attempts - get it on target as a preference but not hit it hard enough and it'll be saved more often than not.  Trust yourself with the correct strength of shot and it'll bulge the net almost every time.

Another Americanism.  Was always 'attack' in my younger days.

In the OP's defence, I think he actually is American.

Amazing stats though. I love the way we're playing at the moment. Hopefully Cyriac will  be able to put a few more of those shots away and we'll really be going places.

I am indeed an American, born of immigrant parents from Ireland (father) and England (mother). Merely an "Americanism"

I watched a black and white war film the other night starring Jack Palance, who was also a boxer before he became an actor. The title of the film was called " ATTACK ".

In England where we invented the language, yes.........but they are both correct. However, in the context, I too would favour the term "attack", let's leave offence for American Football.

Attack, Attack,..........Attack Attack Attack.
I feel much better.

Let's hope Fulham will being doing plenty of that today.

Sorry, I hadn't realised, no offence intended. But please clarify why it isn't "Americanizm"!
