Chelsea was formed in 1910 when a builder called Mears  (there was a Mears chairman in the 60's) built a new stadium and offered it to Fulham, they replied that they had a perfectly good stadium down by the river and thank you very much....so he had to "invent" a completely new team in Fulham and chose Chelsea.
