Shorey even SAYS the right things

Nicky Shorey made an accomplished Fulham debut on Wednesday evening as Fulham battled to a vital win over Portsmouth at Craven Cottage.   

Speaking after Wednesday night's match, Shorey spoke of his delight at securing the three points and making the move to Fulham.

"It was a bit of a slow start to the game," he said. "Portsmouth played well to be honest so we're just glad to get the win.

"I was happy playing at Forest and I would have been delighted to go back there but when a chance to play in the Premier League comes along, especially with a club like Fulham, you can't turn that down."

Shorey also fielded the inevitable questions regarding a return to the England squad, but the Fulham defender was keen to point out that his primary objective is performing well for the Whites.

"Everyone jumps on that boat [England call-ups] once you've played one or two games in the Premier League," he said. "With the World Cup coming up everyone's trying to stake their claim but I'm just concentrating on doing well for Fulham - that's all I'm worried about.

"I'm here until the end of the season with a view to a permanent move. I know that Fulham have a quality left-back in Paul Konchesky, who is a great player. So who knows what can happen. I'm just going to enjoy it while I'm here, get the games in and try to do well."
