Joe Bryant to Fulham picking up steam. Not sure whether it'll be closed before Norwich ( he probably would start on bench at best anyway for this game). I've never seen him would he suit the Malone-esque marauding left back or is he more defensive?

He's a very attacking fullback and a signing I would be happy with. Scored some good goals over the years. Would be an upgrade on Malone IMO.
I'd be well happy with a decent left back such as Bryant, enabling Sessegnon to be on the wing.

That's good enough for me. Make it so Fulham.

I reckon the lure of playing with wonderkid Sess would an advantage in signing good left back

Carlton Cole's been released from Persib Bandung......Queue the yearly transfer link!

Joe Bryant? Are we talking Bristol City Joe Bryan. Very little rumours other than Leeds and us are interested.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

I think the reverse.  As the boy wonder has stayed he is likely to get more game time.  That means less game time for the guy who is sharing the LB berth.  I think this was a factor in Malone's decision to leave.  I personally think Sess is not a LB but if you play him further forward then he is competing for a place with Ayite and Kebano.  Good problem to have but why Odoi covering LB might be the best option.  Only Joka has said he wants a LB....

But we are short a RB if you allocate Odoi to the left, we need 4 fullbacks in total. Odoi and Fred (injury prone) are clearly fullbacks but Sess is partly a winger, one more signing required IMO.

I think Sess will have more game time further forward than LB this season.

I dont think we are that short.

Freds, Odoi and Cisse can cover RB, Cisse started his carear there so not overly an issue i wouldnt have thought. Odoi, Sess and Ream can cover LB, Ream at a push if no one else was available due injuries.

For me its not overly a concern, would rather get another CB, central forward and Keeper if we can

Kalas also more than capable at RB if absolutely necessary, also young Steven Sessegnon might get a few games here and there. Tayo Edun also very good at left back.

How accurate is it to describe Fredericks as 'injury prone'? Admittedly he missed the start of last season with an injury which kept him out for a dozen games, but prior to that and subsequently injury has caused him to miss only one game. He had no reported injuries at either Middlesbrough or Millwall. Many players have, during the course of their career, an injury serious enough for them to miss ten or so games.

We are sometimes too quick to stick labels on players. Those who score an own goal, give away a penalty or get a red card (all hazards of the defender's trade) can be similarly unjustly labeled.

I disagree about the LB back position.  We only have young Sess at the moment.  Odoi is a pretty average RB with little attacking threat and can't see how a right footer can be a better left back than RB particularly offensively.  Although do not place much store on pre season games, he was also woefully all over the place when he came on on Saturday - his radar was totally off.  A pet hate is CB's playing at full back - good fullbacks need very different physical qualities and indeed different sets of ball skills

The attacking threat of Fredericks and Malone/Sess was key to our offensive play last season - having players come in to do a job doesn't quite do it for me.  Edun may be a possibility, this time last season I would have said he was more first team ready than Sess but he is unproven and appears to be groomed for a different role

Odoi has played more career games at LB than RB, its actually his preferred position. He can use his left or his right which is a useful ability in itself.

Agree Chutney. Anyone who knows anything about Odoi would know he came to us as a right footed left back, he was juts unlucky (in that he would have got more starts covering both sides) that Sess came through and Maloine turned out to be better than decent.

The thing is I don't think he is any better than cover as a RB and hopefully he will be overtaken by young Fossey before the season is out -  he may do a job as cover at LB - but if he isn't quite good enough at RB - I don't see how he wil be good enough at LB - his cameo on Saturuday was concerning.  Personaly I don't think he is a regular starter particularly given the attacking demands placed on the fullbacks last season.
