To be fair to Malone,  it's probably his last, if not only, chance to play in the premier league given his age. He was excellent for us last year but hopefully we can get someone equally as good to replace him.

My guess is that Malone asked to leave. My hunch is that he wasn't happy sharing so much game time with Sessegnon and could see that the balance would only tip further towards Ryan this season.

My thoughts entirely. Now we just have to bring in an upgrade.
Agree 100%, its a good move for Malone and for the club. As much as he was great in terms of his attitude and contributed a couple of really key goals, he worked hard to get into many great overlapping positions but then was more often than not let down by his crossing being very poor. Bringing in someone else to spell Sessignon will be a goal or it just may persuade them to keep Odoi, as he can play either.

As of this moment the squad is weaker than it was at the end of the season. Early days but we have said that before. Last season and January to be precise. We wait and see.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

Going into this window my personal concern was we needed a good striker, good CB (such as kalas) and a few squad players, which might cost £15m+ so we might have to sell Sessegnon or Cairney to fund part of that...

Now in the last few days we've got Sessegnon and Cairney to sign contract extensions and raised the best part of £10m by selling someone who was even getting in the team (Jozabed) and probably the weakest player who was (Malone).

I agree we need to move quickly now and sign a striker but so far IMO this window has been bloody fantastic for us!!

Sorry to lose Malone. Swapping him for Richards was a master stroke and hopefully we got a good fee for him

The squad is also far stronger than it was last summer. This summer we have to be right about recruits in a few key positions. Last, we had to be right all over the pitch pretty much. We've got at least 80% or so of our 1st team in for pre-season this go 'round which should set us up fairly well going into early season. No time to panic (not saying you are). We just have to trust the club to get those right few in the door.

We need a keeper, a centre half and a forward minimum. That hasn't changed from last Summer. We tried a few defenders but as yet haven't found the right ones. We tried a new keeper but he hasn't impressed enough. Yes it is early but then trusting the club has never been a great idea. :012:

Can you point to a single team that has all of their business done with a full 31 Days until the season start? The best bit of business we could've done this summer was extending Cairney's deal and that's already done. Start panicking at the start of August, not the start of July.

Malone will get roasted alive in the Prem & spat out for breakfast.

Totally agree. although he got goals for us his defensive play was awful.

I'm very unhappy with the sale of Malone, and highly doubt that in the current transfer climate that we can replace him with an equal replacement, let alone an improvement. It baffles me that people think this was a good sale. He was unbelievably good for us last year, and good full backs, especially those who can play in a system like ours are hard to find

But it is not panicking. We were saying the same thing this time last year. So as of today we are a weaker  squad. We can all say it is early days. But this time last Summer we had fans saying what you are saying. Still need a keeper, a centre half and a forward. Same as this time last Summer.

Let's put it this way. Whatever the fee for Malone, it is far more than we would have got for Richards.

Agree with this.   Had we gone up then I would have been looking at a new LB.  So this seems to work for everyone.  Scott gets a tilt at the top flight and we get money to put towards a no9 and a CB.  I hope.

"Thanks" for a fantastic season for us Scott and best wishes to you in the Premiership

really? the only bad full-back i can remember us having in the last decade or more was garbutt
That's quite the nicest thing said about Zverotic, Voser or Jazz on this board in a long while!

I personally thought the clubs wish you well message about Malone leaving was a different sort of tone to usual

Agree, left back has been a problem position for a long while, it will be difficult to replace Malone.
Sess.can play there of course but t is going to put pressure on a young player whose interests may have best been served playing in another position.

Would that be the "he shared the LB berth with the emerging Ryan" looking forward comment?
