Disappointed that a so called family club has gone for a betting websiye

I get that and I'd really rather not have something like that but I suppose, especially in the current climate, it's about which companies are willing to pay the most. I'm kind of with you though - to me personally I lump these websites in the same box as if we have a cigarette or alcohol company sponsoring.

I suppose the most positive response as a fan would be to not only not purchase the shirt but to email whoever the relevant person would be at the club and tell them your reason. It certainly won't make a difference overnight but I'll bet you aren't the only one so maybe long term the club would take those factors into consideration.

Whinging about the sponsor is pretty insane. Like, honestly what did you expect?

We've had betfair and more recently MarathonBet, so its not exactly a bolt from the blue. Also half the teams in the football league are sponsored by betting firms.

Agree - we are not top tier so it's hard to get top tier sponsors! Even in the Premier League, some teams have to settle for betting companies now as they are happy to pay more money.

not buying the shirt which could potentially damage the clubs income and potential FFP targets, that would be clever.

Its bog standard we have had 3 companies in this field now. As I say rule out betitng and drinking and your left with very few sposnors who will give good value

I think that's a bit harsh. The OP was simply stating an opinion and I think it's fair enough. Some people don't want to walk around advertising a betting company on their chest. They've every right to not buy a shirt on that basis.

I agree with dhowells21, simply put those are the biog revenue streams and we have to take advantage. Just something else to moan about in my view

Say we had an offer from Fuller's for £500k and an offer from a betting company for £900k - I know what I'd choose from a business point of view. Not that this was the case but we should be trying to maximise revenue where possible. I'd rather it not be a betting company but rather the best income for the club.

Hold on - they don't buy the shirt and suddenly they are damaging the clubs FFP targets? Come on mate.

I was simply suggesting to the other poster that as a fan their input should be valid. I buy the shirt most years but, to be honest, I was disappointed to see we went with a gambling company so I'm thinking twice about getting the new shirt. Was I surprised we did? No. As has been stated, it's pretty much the norm now and, as I said myself, if that's who offered the club the most money then it makes financial sense. But fans should be allowed to say "I don't like this as a sponsor" without accusing them of trying to harm the club.

people would moan about drinking sponsors as well.

Alternately if they went with Twinings and got 100k a year having turned down a bette roffer form drinking and betting people would moan, they just cannot win

The thing is, we may have had betting companies sponsor the club in the past but, as of late, its been very controversial partly because the top tier clubs have been hit with a wave of betting sponsors. Something like more than half of the competition are now sponsored by them.

I understand, money is money and the club will take whoever pays the best but would the club accept a sponsorship offer from an p*rn website even if they were prepared to pay the highest amount? Of course not! Think about the kids...

Kids are impressionable and if they see their favourite stars play with shirts sponsored by gambling companies, it normalises them to a practice that eventually has a chance of ruining lives.

Thats why Im 100% against this new sponsor and find it quite ironic that this is a team that is proud of being a 'family club'

they dont put the spnsors on kids shorts for one (same with Alchohol sponsors)

But disgaree with the whole sentiment, unrtil the league bring in rules the club should utilise whatever sponsoirs are available to maxmise their income and to help finance player purtchases, player wages and the overall running of the club.

If they didnt do this people would still moan, a case of the club not ebing able to win what ever they do.

No matter what sponsor we have we will always be a family club, the sponsor doesnt change that

Won't be buying the shirt.

Grosvenor Casinos are owned by The Rank Group.  I know which of those two names I'd rather see on the front of our shirts.

What about the betting shops in the stadium? Or the people drinking alcohol? Or the people smoking outside?
I get your point about kids being impressionable, but it's not like they're going to see the casino name on the shirts and then sneak out for a game of blackjack after the match is it.

Much better put than I did!

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure most people couldn't care less what the sponsor is and that's fine, all power to you. But please try and understand that some people look at the damage done to lives of loved ones by gambling or alcohol addictions and are therefore not all that keen to walk around advertising companies that promote those particular products. Gambling websites as sponsors may very well be 'the norm' now but please try to understand that those that don't like that might not be just 'finding something to moan about'.

Haha! Even I would have had a good old whinge about that.

To me, the sponsor is just another bit of design on the kit. I don't pay much attention to it. Glad this year the sponsor actually blends with the kit and isn't some horrible clashing colour.

Quite like the kit and will be ordering it shortly!
