What does "Leading the race" mean ?

I'm reading lots of comments re:  "such and such are leading the race for   ????"
How on earth does anyone know, unless it's the selling clubs CEO

agree, selling club source lekaing to get more money or buyclub soiurce so player gets unsettled, agent doing withr for the same reasons, thats all it can be in my mind

leading the race means you are actively the king/ruler of an ethnically similar group of people.
