TalkSPORT's South American football expert says he really rates Rolan and it would be a massive coup if Fulham can sign him. Said he is more of a back up or secondary striker who can play on either wing too. A sinuouey strong player for his size and very technical player. Can't remember all he said but he was suprised he would come to the championship and he really rates him. He thinks he would have no problem adapting to the English game. Just hope no other teams were listening and hijack the deal if it is true. Not sure we need a secondary striker but we did alright last season without a striker of any description and a player of his quality can only be a good thing.

Back to the OP. I'm not letting myself believe we can get a player of this calibre in the championship... But if we did I think he would tear it up. Hopefully we can convince him it'll only be one year at this level.

Never ever get bored at having a go at the stats man, he has self inflicted any stick on himself.

That would be like a magician giving away all his secrets.
However I appreciate your genuine interest.
Therefore, on that basis.
If you can obtain a warrant to search my premises, I shall be only too pleased to divulge any information you require on how I know better than the stats man.
Always remember that the first rule of gathering information and research. Is never pass a keyhole without looking through it.
I also rent an overgrown bush at Motspur Park all year round, ( she is a very nice lady ) to avoid overlooking any new developments. ⚽️👁🆘

People often get nervous when confronted by something new that they don't fully understand. The use of statistical analysis in football is such a something.
We don't know the details of its use or to what extent it has influenced recent transfers, most of which have turned out pretty well.
As with anything 'new' there are bound to be some problems. Overall it may turn out to be a success or to be ineffective. It would be nice if it gave us a bit of an advantage, although I doubt that we are the only Club involved in this kind of approach.

Agree with you we signed 14 players last season and 90% of them had statistical data and were scouted as well, those signings didn't turn out too bad, there year before scouting and stats led to the TC signing as well.

So it can't all be too bad, we should moan when they get it wrong but pat on the back when they get it right as well

It's not just the use of stats is it. It's some of the personnel involved and the arrangement under which the stats are used. And it's simplistic and misguided to say "we did ok last season ergo every single the club does must be ok"

If you refer to my comment I didn't say that, saying pat on back when they do well but moan when they don't.

The open prominence given to stats at Fulham imay be new but the use of stats in football goes back a long way. For example, a former colleague was helping in the use of stats in the mid 1980s at Wimbledon F.C. In the crazy gang years, not the most obvious setting, where it influence their direct attacking style in particular.

I would argue why it is realisitic based on the club he plays for.... Are we that arrogant in the UK that we think our second tier has better and bigger clubs in it than Bordeaux ?

For the record he is not adverse to coming over and we have spoken to both agent and player, those talks went well. The club and division is an attractive proposition to some players in France as outside the top 3/4 clubs the level isn't overly fantastic, in fact the lower half is probably top half of the championship standard.

1 goal in every 4 games in a unfantastic league does bode well for us....  lived in France for 12 years and only a top 4 PL team would win ligue1. I hope you're not someone who thinks Stoke City would win the French league....? With or without their top 4 teams.

No I am not, but having lived in Belgium and France for multiple years as child and man, I know the league outside of PSG, Monaco, Lyon, nice, Marseille and then to a lesser degree Lille and  Nantes is not much at all

But my point is if your not at one of those clubs then you would consider a competitive championship a good place to come and play. Otherwise you might as well say the standard I. The Belgian pro league, and Dutch eredivisie is on a par with the premier league. Top leagues are not always better than some other. You haven't said that I was just comparing my point.

Rolan tho is interested, and may well come. He may not come if he gets a top flight offer and or European competition club, neither of which we can match, but right now FFC is the only team to submit an offer and that's been accepted reportedly.
