2017-18 Championship League Positions Game

The big Premier Positions Game won't be going this new season - at least from me. The organizers - Sunderland's Hakuna Matata and myself are left without premier league representation after Sunderland's demise, and if I'm honest it has eaten up a fair bit of time these past six seasons or so because of the so regular updates, and a little welcome break is dearly needed.

So here is a modified easy version for the Championship, which I have experimented with before so I'm confident that it'll go well on a small scale. We're doing it among four forums only; Reading's 'Royals Rendezvous', Sunderland's 'Black Cat Chat', Leeds 'LUFC Talk' and Fulham's 'Friends of Fulham'.

This game is simple -

here are the 24 Championship teams in alphabetical order:
Aston Villa
Barnsley
Birmingham City
Bolton Wanderers
Brentford
Bristol City
Burton Albion
Cardiff City
Derby County
Fulham
Hull City
Ipswich Town
Leeds United
Middlesbrough
Millwall
Norwich City
Nottingham Forest
Preston North End
Queens Park Rangers
Reading
Sheffield United
Sheffield Wednesday
Sunderland
Wolverhampton Wanderers

All I need before the Championship kick-off - that's FRIDAY 4TH AUGUST at 7.45pm! - are your guesses at the top six come May (in order 1 to 6) and the bottom 3 (in order 22-24), plus the position that you believe YOUR TEAM will finish.

There will be points awarded for your predos at 4 points during the season:
after 11 games (*), after 23 games(*), after 35 games (*) and at the end of the season after the last game has been played.
(* = understood to be when the majority of clubs are on this number of games played).

POINTS AWARDED:

For a club correctly named in top 6 = 2 points
For a club in the top 6 named in the exact position = 3 points
For a club correctly named in a relegation position = 1 point
For a club in relegation position named in the exact position = 2 points

For YOUR club: exact position = 6 points / one position off = 5 points (e.g. you say 7th but your team lies 8th) / 2 positions off = 4 points / 3 positions off = 3 points / 4 positions off = 2 points / 5 positions off = 1 point. Please note: if you name your team for top six or bottom three you score for that club on both concepts (e.g. you support Wolves and put them 6th and they are indeed sixth; you score 3 points for overall position plus 6 points for your team guess = 9 points for this team).

For EACH update you will get these points anew and added on to your existing total - BUT in the final update at the very end of season all points for the final quarter scores are doubled. The winners are those with the HIGHEST points mounted up across the whole season.

Enjoy it!!

Exactly. 11 men in your own box for 90mins should result in 46 0v0s. Touch and go whether that'll keep them up. Plus I just don't like them after their reaction to beating us.

agreed those weren't the pleasant-ish of encounters, I reckon that was because two biggish clubs - championship level I mean - were facing each other. But I don't think that the Royals are generally considered an arrogant lot; at least on my forum certainly not, more tend to be pessimistic than optimist.  Please don't hold it against me, I try to be a 'gentleman'!

It wasn't against you or your forums. I don't ever go on the reading forums so I wouldn't have a clue. My issue was the final whistle of the 2nd leg. But it's a select few, not the whole club.

Do I think Reading will go down? No. But they are up there with Sheff Wed, QPR and Brentford for clubs I'd like to see go down. No offense intended, it's just unfortunate it's a Reading supporter asking me.

I think I shall keep my powder dry until 7.44pm on August 4th, just to take full advantage of the time left just to see which teams if any continue to strengthen their teams.
Although I do agree as already been stated, that 3 teams will gain promotion, as will 3 teams be relegated.
As to which teams that will be. I am not sure it's as straightforward as it looks.
