Sad news.

There are four different types of brain haemorrhage. They occur mainly from trauma (head injury or a fall), or a ruptured aneurysm. Aneurysms are thin balloons formed on blood vessels as a result of high blood pressure or genetics ... they are so weak they rupture later in life.

The surgery itself is removing a portion of the skull and washing away the blood that's almost jellified by then. It'll be a long recovery in ITU. The trick is to intervene before the pressure from the blood rises so much it causes further haemorrhages in the brain stem (the fundamental part of the brain controlling breathing, heart etc).

I really hope it goes well. I would imagine they've caught it early and he has good reserve and pulls through with time.
