The Worst Missed Transfer Opportunity

Over the years we have missed a few transfer opportunities but if we fail to sign Mitrovic it will surely count as our worst ever miss.
Just consider some of the facts.

1. He played for us for half a season on loan , scored goals, was a great target man, and  fitted in with the coaches    tactics.

2. He showed a good attitude and has stated he would like to play in the premiership with Fulham.

3. Newcastle have said they are prepared to release him and declared a 20 million pound asking price.

4. By current rates the asking price is not unreasonable.

5. We really need a quality striker, there seems no other option at the moment.

6. He knows our players and methods and would hit the ground running.

7. The fans love him.

Come on Fulham this is a great opportunity, if we fail to sign Mitrovic then a resignation should be imminent.

General

Newcastle seem to be struggling to find a player they can bring in.. may have something to do with the frustratingly slow nature of our clubs transfer policy. So bored of this inactivity.

aaronmcguigan

selling a player, but waiting until you have a replacement signed sealed and delivered is a sensible approach.

The failure to sign Mitro so far is down to the World Cup, Newcastle not signing a replacement , and price negotiations . Any sensible transfer policy and market approach would have a backup in mind, or even another striker signed. Adebayo/ Humphrys out on loan, Woodrow hanging around in the wilderness, if he gets an injury or loses form, are we going to stick Fonte or someone in there against a United/city/ Liverpool

Newcastle have managed since last Christmas  without Mitrovic , would have thought they would be pleased to have him of their hands as he is does not seem happy there.

Agree, they replaced him with Slimani last season. Presuming he was injured or a bad fit as he only played 4 games

I am sure it has been widely reported it will be sorted when he returns from holiday, I believe he is due back Wednesday.

Alfie are you seriously telling us that the player has to be back from hols? What about his agent? And surely Mitro can use email?  I keep hearing that he has to be back but I do't understand why?

Mince n Tatties

I hope we aren't putting all our eggs in one basket regarding Mitro.
As much as I like him he didn't set the premier alight at Newcastle(I know him and Rafa) didn't see eye to eye.I just hope we have someone else lined up and don't think he is going to be the hero he was in the Championship and get the goals we'll need all by himself...Coyw

Stevieboy

Why are Newcastle waiting for a replacement for a player who,
1. Has stated he doesn't want to play for them
2. Has placed a transfer request
3. Obviously cannot work with Benitez
4. They need the money
5. There is supposedly everything in place for the move
6. He wants to play for us

Allegedly.........

aaronmcguigan

agree with Twig. Surely both teams aren't pinning their main transfer plans around one persons holiday? I'm sure plenty of people have moved clubs whilst on holiday ? The Khans can put their private jets and yachts to good use surely

I personally think all the stuff that's come out today is just noise and he'll have signed by the end of the week, but people do have to keep in mind that he's Mitrovic not the Messiah. I love him after his 4-5 months with us but if we didn't sign him and ended up with Willian Jose as suggested today that's an upgrade in anyones book from a footballing standpoint.

I know people will say about how much passion he shows etc. and I agree with that (and as I've said I want him to join and think he will), but at the end of the day football is a cut-throat and weird business. Don't forget 8-10 hours before we signed him on Deadline Day he was talking about how happy he was to be "home" with Anderlecht.

The thing is, the delay thus far is IMO justified if we're signing a particular player who we know will slot straight into our team.

If we're widening the field to any decent striker we can get our hands on, and we're expecting that striker to be able to threaten the Palace goal in a couple of weeks, suddeny it becomes very urgent and I go back to wondering why we haven't bloody done it yet

As I said in the first sentence, I think this is just last minute bluster and paper talk as opposed to anything substantial and I'd be 99% certain Mitrovic will sign (probably by the end of the week).

Well I am a little sure that it was Mitro who said it, so yes I am serious, I have read it in various places that "the deal for Mitro will be sorted on his return from his holiday".
I am not telling lies or making it up.

Missing out on moderately overpaying for Mitro, if it were to happen, wouldn't be a huge deal, as presumably we'd been in for a better player(s).

I enjoyed the guy, but it's usually better to have a guy for the "contract run" than pay the guy for that contract run.

You need to do a medical for insurance purposes even if it's just a loan being made permanent. Remember it being brought up when Newcastle signed Kenedy last week.

Sorry Alfie I am not suggesting you are making anything up and I realise you, and all of the rest of us, have read this on several occasions.  I am simply wondering why his holidays get in the way, Any ideas?

GJB

What if he picked up a knock at the World Cup, we'd be spending 20 million on a key player that could be susceptible to an injury?  Surely with £20 million on the cards, clubs have to be happy with the player's fitness? Seri played all of last season, as did Fabri - they had a medical, what's the difference?

I think the whole deal is farcical on Newcastle Utd FC side.
Agree with the post above.

What gets me is last season they wanted to loan the player out therefore didn't either rate him or think ready yet for prem.
Because of Mitros goals last season hes now become a cash cow for them.
I feel though that ÂŁ20M is still crazy money i think ÂŁ12-15M
would be right for a player with 10 goals in 40 Premier league matches 18 of them starting as a Sub.

The other side of it is alas this is how the transfer monies in modern football have sky rocketed.
There will come a day when a player is worth more than the club they play for...!!

PS... I do rate and think Mitro will shine with Joka and Co in prem if and when bought.
