Keeping fingers crossed for Targett.

Can't wait for that first match now!

No we are not being greedy just ambitious, and our expectations are justified, if the club are looking to reach 40 points and beyond ASAP, and then move up to the next stage.
Because to progress, seeds have to be sown to give the club a solid foundation to become a club whose brand of football under Slavisa has turned the heads of so many quality players.
Our brand of football since last November up and including the play off at Wembley, especially that match at Wembley, which gave the footballing world a glimpse of what the teams playing philosophy has become.
Our reputation and system of play has been instrumental in attracting the players we need, to ensure our stay in the Premier League is long and successful.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Any chance we see Scott Malone back if Matt isn't coming?

not a bad shout actually. he just didn't get too many chances at hudders - doesn't mean he cant cut it in the pl.

Yes.
Absolutely disagree.
None of us has ever had a say in how or when Mr Khan spends his money, and we don't have the means to dissect the fine nuances of book-keeping either.  What we look for is a team capable of challenging in the PL, if not for major honours then at least for respectability.  I simply ask the question that if Targett was the required replacement for Malone that we got several months too late, then LB is a position where we are exposed if we do not get a player in who can play to the system required.  Targett is the simplest remedy if we can persuade Saints to let him go.  Greed has nothing to do with it.

Yes.

No

The team remains unbalanced

Neither of our current first choice full backs were getting in our starting XI next year

And if Mcdonald or Mitro get injured we are playing someone like Cisse or Fonte and/or having to totally change our tactics

Hold on.

AK and Schurrle could deputise as strikers and both are far superior to Fonte, IMHO.

If McDonald gets injured Seri could drop back and Stef Jo could come in for Seri's more advanced role.

Not saying it wouldn't be preferable to have more squad depth but have to respectfully disagree that Cisse and Fonte are the first to step in in those two positions. And all without any discernible change in tactics!

It has to be Targett, just pay the money and move on to the next target!

Disagree on Christie

I think he will be OK at PL level, he's big, he is quick (not Fred quick but few are) his passing is good and so is his crossing.

I can sympathise with your post except the last sentence.

Also I forgot to add right CB to the list of positions where we have no decent cover

At the end of the day the squad is never going to be perfect but I'd say of 5 or so remaining gaps you need 3/4 to be filled to say its been a good window

Surely, StefJo would take McDonald's role?  At only 5'5" Seri isn't ever going to be that kind of defensive midfielder is he?

N'Golo Kante doesn't let lack of height stop him being a highly effective player in that role. Just sayin...

Having not seen Seri play I'm only going by what I've read which, as far as I can determine, suggests he might be better suited than Stef Jo to stepping back to fill in the DCM role.

Great point about Kante 👍

Southcoastffc

I take your point about Kante's height.  That said, NK is an out and out defensive m/f but I think SJ has more defensive ability than Seri (allegedly!).  Let's hope that KMac has another outstanding and ever present season and that we don't have to find out!

Agree

Compared with the money Southampton are asking for Targett  Malone would be a cheap buy, he would hit the ground running.
