Everton 3-0 Fulham

Cenk Tosun scored Everton's second goal and his first of the season

Everton manager Marco Silva says he made his feelings clear in the dressing room at half-time before Everton scored three second-half goals against Fulham to record their second Premier League win of the season.

After a poor first-half Toffees display, Gylfi Sigurdsson made amends for a missed penalty with a brace that helped Everton record their first win since August and inflict a fourth defeat of the season on Fulham.

Sigurdsson wasted a big chance for Silva's side early in the second half when he hit the crossbar from the spot, but atoned shortly after with a crisp left-footed strike from the edge of the box.

Substitute Cenk Tosun doubled the Toffees' lead 10 minutes later with an easy header at the far post from a smart Theo Walcott cross before Sigurdsson added a third in the 89th minute.

"I told the boys what my feelings were in the dressing room," Silva said.

"We have have to take different decisions and be a little bit more calm when we have the ball, and when we are attacking. It was an important result for us but it was only three points, and now we must start preparing for the next game in the normal way."

Fulham have never won at Goodison Park in the league, losing 23 - the last 22 in a row - and drawing the other four matches.

Slavisa Jokanovic's side sit three points above the bottom three in 16th with just one Premier League win this season, while Everton are 11th.

Wasteful Fulham rue missed chances
A drab first half saw just one shot on target, with Theo Walcott forcing Marcus Bettinelli into a low save at the far post.

But the best chance of the first 45 minutes fell to Fulham, who will feel they should have gone into half-time ahead. An impressive team move ended with Ryan Sessegnon firing against the bar from close range.

Fulham arguably had the better chances in the first half and had five shots compared to Everton's one.

Aleksandar Mitrovic and Andre Schurrle found space in similar positions on the edge of the box in quick succession, but both fired over Jordan Pickford's goal.

Jokanovic was forced to make an early change when Timothy Fosu-Mensah was carried off on a stretcher with a shoulder injury after landing awkwardly.

His replacement, Cyrus Christie, struggled to cope with Richarlison and was booked after a number of clumsy challenges on the Brazilian.

Fulham failed to muster a single shot on target in the 90 minutes and have now scored only three goals in four away league games this season. They have now lost four straight league games against Everton for the first time.

Toffees dominate second half
Whatever Everton boss Marco Silva said at half-time clearly did the job.

His side came out attacking and almost took the lead three minutes after the restart. A Sigurdsson corner found Michael Keane, who nodded down to Richarlison, but the Brazilian's acrobatic effort at the far post was just over Bettinelli's bar.

Kurt Zouma headed over shortly after before Everton's first clear-cut chance came when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was fouled in the box.

It looked as though referee Roger East had initially dismissed the claims, but assistant referee Andy Garrett spotted the shove from Denis Odoi and the penalty was eventually awarded.

It was the first Premier League spot-kick missed by Sigurdsson, who scored his previous six.

But just four minutes later, Jonjoe Kenny's low drive into the box was booted away by Odoi, straight into the path of Sigurdsson who curled in from just outside the box.

At 1-0 down, Fulham had another decent chance on the hour mark when Andre Schurrle squared it to Luciano Vietto, but the Argentine's touch was too heavy and Jordan Pickford raced out to gather the ball.

Tosun replaced Calvert-Lewin shortly before Sigurdsson's goal, and got in on the action himself when he headed in his first goal of the season from Walcott's chipped cross.

Another substitute, Bernard, made an impact in the dying minutes when his pass picked out Sigurdsson on the edge of the box, the Icelandic rolling past Bettinelli to cap another miserable afternoon at Goodison for Fulham.

Whilst the three points are most important, Everton will also take confidence from keeping a clean sheet for the first time this season.

Man of the match - Gylfi Sigurdsson (Everton)

Despite his missed penalty, Sigurdsson has now been directly involved in five goals in his four Premier League appearances against Fulham

'We must fight like it's the last second in our life' - what they said

Everton manager Marco Silva: "It's important to be clear what we did in the second half was really different. We have to be more aggressive than our opponents but sometimes we have to be more calm. We changed our team a little bit higher and our pressure was better in the second half.

"Of course it's important to get three points but the clean sheet is really important as well.

"Sigurdsson showed fantastic character and personality after he missed the penalty and deserved the goals because he works hard. Today, football was fair with him because he works hard.

"We have to think always about winning. The last two results were really disappointing for us and we had to react and that's what we did. The first half wasn't the best but the game is 90 minutes."

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic: "We must be more clinical in important moments in this competition. We had one clear chance from Schurrle, and also Sessegnon hit the crossbar, but we didn't score and they fought harder and scored three easy goals.

"We must show more solidarity and fight like it's the last second in our life. In one moment we give up and trust that we can change the situation and this is not acceptable.

"I cannot be frustrated, I must open my mind and find the solution. We need to improve many things and we must believe in ourselves and find the way for improvement."

22 successive wins for Everton - the stats
Everton have won their past 22 top-flight home games against Fulham - a record in English top division football.
Fulham haven't kept a clean sheet in any of their past 22 away Premier League games, the longest ongoing run in the division (current clubs only).
Everton have won all 14 of their Premier League home games against Fulham by an aggregate score of 35-7, the best 100% win record against a team on home soil in the competition.
Since his maiden season in the Premier League in 2011-12, Gylfi Sigurdsson has netted 18 goals from outside the box in the competition, a haul only Philippe Coutinho can better (19).
Everton winger Theo Walcott has had a hand in four goals in his past five Premier League home games (two goals, two assists), as many as he managed in his previous 13 in the competition.

What's next?

Everton host Southampton in the EFL Cup third round on Tuesday (kick-off 19:45 BST), before a trip to Leicester City next Saturday (15:00).

Fulham are back in action on Sunday, 7 October when they welcome Arsenal to Craven Cottage in the Premier League (kick-off 12:00).

Head Coach Reaction

Slaviša Jokanović was left to rue mistakes at both ends of the pitch as Fulham fell to defeat at Everton.

The Whites had good chances with the score goalless – and also at just 1-0 down – but failed to take them, with the hosts going on to win by three to extend our Goodison Park curse.

"It was a tough afternoon," Jokanović admitted. "We played acceptably well in the first 45 minutes but weren't clinical enough. We had the opportunity to score the goals, [but] we didn't do it.

"In the second half, for some reason we didn't reach our level. They had a little bit more power and a little bit more speed to find the way to score three easy goals. We weren't at a high enough level in these moments to defend the situation.

"It's definitely not good news for us, conceding at the beginning of the Premier League so many goals. We must be more clinical and fix this problem at the back.

"At the beginning of the game our plan was working well. We controlled the situation and we created the chances, just unfortunately for us we weren't clinical enough, and now we are talking about a really bad afternoon for us.

"Okay, after a loss like today it's not the best, but we must be strong, we must trust in ourselves, we must be solid.

"We didn't show enough ambition, we didn't show enough to try and change the story, and we must change this kind of situation.

"Nothing is tragic, but we definitely didn't show our maximum today here at Goodison Park."

Fulham lost both full-backs to injury during the game, with Timothy Fosu-Mensah stretchered off early on, before Joe Bryan limped off moments after Jokanović had made his final substitution.

When asked how long the pair are expected to be sidelined, our Head Coach replied: "Joe Bryan has some kind of hamstring problem and probably he is going to be outside the squad for a few weeks.

"Timothy has a shoulder problem, I'm not sure exactly what kind."

Everton 3-0 Fulham: Gylfi Sigurdsson scores twice after missing penalty and Cenk Tosun ends goal drought as Goodison jinx goes on for Cottagers

Gylfi Sigurdsson atoned for an earlier penalty miss with a second-half double to secure much-needed victory
Midfielder blasted a 52nd-minute spot-kick against the bar but four minutes later drilled home the opener
Theo Walcott whipped in a cross from the left and substitute Cenk Tosun was on hand to nod home the second
Sigurdsson sealed a relatively convincing win in the 89th minute with a low drive home from Bernard's cross

The run continues. When Everton host Fulham, the outcome is always a home win and so it proved once again. This is the 22nd time in succession, the visitors have been sent packing without anything to show for their efforts.

But as they shook hands at the final whistle, both Marco Silva and Slavisa Jokanovic knew things could have been very different. Everton's head coach, who had seen two Gylfi Sigurdsson goals and a header from Cenk Tosun secure three points, was relieved; his Fulham counterpart was perplexed.

Fulham had chances to fracture Everton's brittle confidence but, as Jokanovic pointed out, they "paid an expensive price" for failing to take their opportunities. That won't matter one jot to Silva, though, who was delighted to see his side win in the Premier League for the first time August 18.

'I'm really happy - if I'm not happy when we win 3-0 when will I be happy?' asked Silva. 'I told the boys my feelings in the dressing room. It is an important result. It's just three points. At the end, it is just three points.' But for long spells, there was enough doubt to think Everton wouldn't claim them particularly during a soporific first half. They should have trailed at the interval and were fortunate when Ryan Sessegnon's drive in the 42nd minute cannoned against the bar.

Conceding at that point would have fractured Everton's brittle confidence. There was murmuring from the stands as the team left the pitch and the atmosphere had the potential to become uncomfortable. Winning was as much about soothing anxieties as it was collecting points.

Fortunately for Silva, Everton's performance in the second period significantly improved. The crowd got behind the team and it was the catalyst for a 20-minute spell that took the contest out of Fulham's reach. Everton were dynamic and got their reward.

True, it looked briefly as that might not be the case. When Sigurdsson struck the crossbar from the penalty spot - assistant referee Andy Garratt spotted Denis Odoi's push on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and awarded the kick - it appeared that Everton would flounder.

Denis Odoi made contact with Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box and the linesman awarded the spot-kick

Gylfi Sigurdsson stepped up to take the penalty but he blasted his spot kick against the crossbar in the 52nd minute

Silva didn't watch the penalty and when he heard the exasperated growl that greeted the miss, he was visibly bursting with frustration as he stuffed his hands into his trouser pockets; he didn't want to see another opportunity squandered.

He need not have worried; Sigurdsson atoned for his miss five minutes later when sweeping in a left-footed drive from 20 yards, the ball landing at his feet after Odoi failed to clear a cross from Theo Walcott properly.

Fulham, briefly, threatened to make a game of things but a key moment arrived in the 61st minute when Jordan Pickford won a battle of wits with Luciano Vietto and raced from his goal to make a crucial clearance. The England No1, who punched the air, knew the significance.

'They did not do something fantastic to win the game,' said Jokanovic. 'We were sleeping in important moments. We must understand where we are and if you make mistakes, you will be hurt. If we do not adapt, it will be complicated for us.'

Timothy Fosu-Mensah suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder after a horror collision with Dominic Calvert-Lewin

The defender, on loan from Manchester United, was carried off on a stretcher in the seventh minute following the collision

Both teams struggled in the final third to create chances and there was only one shot on target in the first-half

What could have been 1-1 soon became 2-0. Everton started to get plenty of joy down Fulham's left and when Walcott scuttled to the byline, his cross to the back post demand someone provide a finish. Tosun, only just on as a substitute, obliged with an emphatic header.

From that point, there was no way back for Fulham and the gloss was put on an excellent 45 minutes when Sigurdsson bent in another drive, this time with his right foot. For a man whose endured travails since his £45million arrival 14 months ago, it was a rare moment in the sun.

'He showed fantastic character and personality is important,' said Silva. 'Not just him but our squad. It's important as a team to show that character.

Slavisa Jokanovic: Fulham could pay 'really expensive price'

Fulham have won just one of their opening seven Premier League games

Fulham risk paying "a really expensive price" if they do not quickly adapt to life in the Premier League, says manager Slavisa Jokanovic.

They have won only one of their opening seven league matches and lost 3-0 on Saturday at Everton, where they have never won a league game in 27 attempts.

"Everton didn't do something fantastic or the perfect game from their point of view," said the Serb.

"With a bit more skill and power they easily scored three goals."

After hitting the bar with a penalty, Gylfi Sigurdsson scored two either side of a header from substitute Cenk Tosun.

Fulham had their best chance at the end of the first half when Ryan Sessegnon struck the bar from close range, but failed to muster a single shot on target.

Jokanovic's side are now without a win in four league games and sit 16th in the Premier League, three points above the relegation zone.

He urged his side to show more solidarity and "fight like it's the last second in our life".

The Serb added: "We must understand where we are and that we could pay a really expensive price if we don't adapt ourselves to this.

"We are a seven games old Premier League team and showed some quality - we were brave and tried to follow our style.

"We are in a kind of growing-up process. There is big room for improvement and we need to be more brave and more consistent and do everything to find a faster improvement."

Fulham host Arsenal on Sunday, 7 October before a trip to fellow Premier League newcomers Cardiff on Saturday, 20 October.

Fulham player ratings vs Everton: Ream & Cairney make their return in 3-0 defeat

Here's how we rated the side after they suffered defeat at Goodison Park once more

Fulham left Goodison Park empty handed once more as three second half Everton goals consigned them to defeat once more.

It wasn't the start that Fulham wanted, with Timothy Fosu-Mensah forced off after five minutes with what looked like a shoulder injury to be replaced by Cyrus Christie, who had bagged his first goal for the club in the midweek win over Millwall.

With both teams' defensive issues, this game was supposed to be one full of chances - but the first half saw little goal mouth action, with Ryan Sessegnon coming closest to opening the scoring in the 41st minute when he was played through down the left, but the wonderkid smashed his effort against the bar.

The crossbar was called into action again in the second half, but this time it was Gylfi Sigurdsson who was acquainting himself with it when his spot kick, which was awarded when Denis Odoi shoved Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the back, cannoned off the top of the bar and to safety ten minutes into the second half.

But it only took minutes for Sigurdsson to get his goal, when he laser guided his curled effort from the edge of the box into the bottom right-hand corner of Marcus Bettinelli's goal.

He got his second in the dying moments when he rolled the ball into the far opposite corner from the edge of the box to make it 3-0 to Everton.

Here's how we rated the side -

Marcus Bettinelli: 6

Didn't really have much to do for most of the game except pick the ball out of his net.

Joe Bryan: 5

Was caught out a few times down the left in the first half when he wasn't sure whether to go to the man or stick in his position. Came off clutching his hamstring.

Tim Ream: 6

His calmness on the ball was clear from the offset and Fulham looked far more comfortable in possession of the ball at the back with him there.

Denis Odoi: 5

Decent defensive performance as he and Ream picked up where they left off last season in the Championship. Lost track of Tosun's run for the second goal.

Jean-Michael Seri: 6

Grew into the game and started to show that bit of class that the Ivorian possesses in midfield. Struggled to get onto the ball and have the same impact in the second half.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah: 5

Only lasted five minutes in the game after suffering an injury, being replaced by Cyrus Christie.

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa: 5

Was beaten to the ball a number of times in the first half, despite sitting in the defensive midfield row. Covered space fairly well and put in a few really strong challenges over the course of the game.

Ryan Sessegnon: 6

Did well defensively and got forward well, but should've scored in the first half put Fulham 1-0 up. Was very quiet in the second half as Fulham struggled with Everton's intensity.

Luciano Vietto: 4

Was bright on the ball again but his decision making could have been better at times when there were better options on. Should've scored but a poor heavy touch saw Pickford claim.

Andre Schurrle: 5

Saw a fair bit of the ball in the number ten position but struggled to do much with it, often finding himself crowded out as he cut inside.

Aleksandar Mitrovic: 6

Didn't see much of the ball in dangerous positions during the first half but his hold up play allowed others into the game. Fulham had very little attempts on goal - a frustrating afternoon for the striker.
Substitutes

Cyrus Christie: 6

Did well after coming on going forward, despite being given the unenviable task of dealing with Richarlison. Didn't deliver enough into the box.

Tom Cairney : 5

Had a few decent touches after coming on but, playing in a more advanced number ten role, didn't really have the impact he usually does.

Floyd Ayite: 5

Came on with seven minutes left in the tie but didn't have any time to affect proceedings.

Fulham beaten after second-half collapse at Everton

Everton 3 Fulham 0

Second-half goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Cenk Tosun gave Everton a 14th consecutive victory at Goodison Park over Fulham.

Sigurdsson made amends for a penalty miss shortly after half-time with a well-hit strike from the edge of the box and a simple side-foot finish either side of Tosun's header, leaving the Whites without a Premier League win in four matches.

Fulham edged a tightly-contested first half, with André Schürrle blazing over early on and Ryan Sessegnon striking the crossbar from a tight angle just before the break.

But, five minutes into the second period, Denis Odoi was ajudged to have pushed Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box when he was through on goal, although Sigurdsson's spot-kick came back off the crossbar.

The Iceland international redeemed himself only a few moments later as he smartly diverted Odoi's interception into the far corner at the first time of asking with his weaker foot.

The Whites – who lost Manchester United loanee Timothy Fosu-Mensah to a shoulder injury early on – had a glorious chance to equalise on the counter-attack with Schürrle and Luciano Vietto two-on-one, but the latter took too heavy a touch that allowed keeper Jordan Pickford to collect.

They were made to pay straight after, as Tosun nodded in a Theo Walcott cross at the back post midway through the second period.

It took much of the sting out of Fulham's build-up momentum, after boss Slavisa Jokanovic changed shape to a 4-2-3-1 and looked tighter at the back for most of the game.

But Sigurdsson wrapped up the points for the Toffees by dispatching a pull-back from substitute Bernard, meaning that Fulham have still failed to collect any points at Everton since 1959.

Fulham: Bettinelli; Fosu-Mensah (Christie 8), Odoi, Ream, Bryan; Zambo Anguissa, Seri (Ayité 84); Vietto (Cairney 63), Schürrle, Sessegnon; Mitrović.
Subs not used: Rico, Le Marchand, McDonald, Johansen.

Gylfi Sigurdsson denied hat-trick by missed penalty as Everton roll over Fulham

Former Everton manager David Moyes recently made the claim his Goodison side was a top class striker away from being title contenders. Times have changed at Goodison. Marco Silva is unlikely to challenge the top six until he signs one.

Cenk Tosun ended his recent drought to help seal victory over Fulham, coming off the bench to double Everton's lead after a vastly improved second half. But judgment will not be clouded.

The broader issue was apparent prior to his introduction. Everton's goal threat comes from deep, demonstrated by Gylfi Sigurdsson's two goals in this 3-0 win.

He would have had a hat-trick but for a missed penalty. Dominic Calvert-Lewin had taken the No. 9 role from Tosun, just as at Arsenal last weekend, but lasted 55 minutes.

He earned the spot-kick after Denis Odoi's shove, but could not assert himself overall. His early substitution was a symptom of the lack of cutting edge from an assortment of Everton target men for the past 16 months.

Even though Tosun should take confidence from his close-range headed goal – created after 66 minutes after excellent work by Theo Walcott – none of the main strikers look like the long-term solution.

Given Richarlison, Sigurdsson and Walcott can create and score from where they are, a more dynamic No. 9 would be transformative. Sigurdsson immediately made amends for his penalty error, proving more lethal with his less favoured left foot from 22 yards than his more reliable right from 18.

"He showed fantastic character and personality. He missed the penalty but he kept working hard," said Silva.

Sigurdsson's opening goal was drilled low, hard and precise into Marcus Bettinelli's bottom corner, in stark contrast to the wayward penalty struck against the crossbar four minutes earlier. He picked his spot for Everton's third a minute before the end.

In the meantime, Richarlison ensured the right side of Fulham's defence was an emergency zone, partially due to the Brazilian, but also bad luck.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah left after eight minutes with what looked a serious shoulder injury. His replacement, Cyrus Christie, was booked 20 minutes later for one trip to many on Richarlison.

The visitors were close to leading before before half-time, Ryan Sessegnon given too much space on the left but hitting the bar.

Unlucky, perhaps, but he should have forced a save. Slavisa Jokanovic pointed to a wasted counter-attack when Luciano Vietto miscontrolled with only Jordan Pickford to beat.

"After they scored the first we had a clear chance to equalise and they scored an easy three goals," said Jokanovic. "We were sleeping in an important moment. You pay an expensive price if you do not adapt. We are in a growing up process. We must be brave and more consistent."

Fulham could not find the attacking midfielders to support striker Alexsandar Mitrovic. Silva knows the next stage of his side's development is finding the striker to support his attacking midfielders.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah taken to hospital as Fulham lose two players to injury in Everton defeat

The Manchester United loanee was stretchered off with a shoulder injury just seven minutes into the 3-0 defeat at Goodison Park

Fulham duo Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Joe Bryan were taken off as a result of injuries in the 3-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon.

Manchester United loanee Mensah, lasted just seven minutes of the tie before he was forced off with a shoulder injury, while Bryan came off in the final ten minutes nursing a hamstring injury.

Mensah was eventually stretchered off by medical staff at Goodison, receiving oxygen as he held his shoulder in some pain before later being taken to hospital for further tests.

Slavisa Jokanovic was unable to give further information on the severity of Fosu-Mensah's injury after the game, but confirmed he had a problem with his shoulder and that they would assess him further.

Meanwhile, Bryan looks like he will miss the next few weeks of the season after suffering a hamstring injury, with Jokanovic confirming the severity of his injury in his post match press conference.

Speaking after the game, Jokanovic said: "Bryan has a hamstring problem and will be out for a few weeks.

"Timothy has a shoulder problem and I cannot give you a clear answer, we must assess him."

Fulham want to secure agreements with Harvey Elliott and Ryan Sessegnon

Fulham are yet to really get into full stride so far this season as they continue to struggle with consistency in the Premier League.

The Cottagers were completely dominant during the second half of last season, but they've just struggled to get to grips with the step up in the current campaign. Although, it looks as if they want to secure a couple of agreements, as according to Sun Sport, Fulham want to hand Harvey Elliott a new deal and are in talks with Ryan Sessegnon.

Indeed, the London club have opened talks over a bumper extension for Ryan Sessegnon, and also want 15-year-old starlet Harvey Elliott tied to a new deal.

Ryan Sessegnon has just one full season to run on his contract.

Worryingly, the England Under-21 winger could move for just £500,000 training compensation when his deal expires, putting him in line for a fresh £50,000-a-week deal.

Elliott became the youngest pro player ever when he featured against Millwall in the Carabao Cup this week.

And, it has been revealed that he is out of contract at the end of the season and can move for a small compensation fee.

THE VERDICT:
Both players will play a huge part in the club's future, so it's vital that Slavisa Jokanovic can tie them down to long-term contracts at the club, even if Sessegnon's is just an extension.

Harvey Elliott is arguably one of the most promising players in the whole of English football and Sessegnon has attracted the attention of a number of big clubs, so securing agreements for them both would be huge.

Manchester City to play Fulham in Carabao Cup fourth round

Manchester City will play Premier League side Fulham at home in the Carabao Cup fourth round after the draw was held on Saturday night.

The current holders recently met Fulham in the league at home, coming out 3-0 winners thanks to goals from Leroy Sané, David Silva and Raheem Sterling, and must now play them again in the League Cup.

Pep Guardiola fielded a much changed side in the third round but after some early resistance from League One's Oxford United, came out comfortable winners with Phil Foden scoring his first City goal in a memorable performance.

With Fulham coming to the Etihad, Guardiola must again decide how to rotate his side and it is likely we'll see a similar lineup to that he fielded at Oxford.

Carabao Cup fourth round fixtures are scheduled to be played in the week commencing Monday 29 October. City's rescheduled fixture with Tottenham will be played on that Monday, so there will be very little recovery time before the Fulham game, assuming it is played on the Wednesday.

The full Carabao Cup fourth round draw is as follows:

1. Manchester City vs. Fulham
2. Bournemouth vs. Norwich
3. Arsenal vs. Blackpool
4. Leicester vs. Everton or Southampton
5. West Ham vs. Tottenham
6. Middlesbrough vs. Crystal Palace
7. Chelsea vs. Derby
8. Burton vs. Nottingham Forest

Everton 3, Fulham 0
Fulham looked fine, and then they weren't

Just when you thought Fulham were going to get their first win at Goodison Park in generations, Everton turned the screw and never looked back. It's been the story for Fulham all season. They'll look great in one half and terrible in the next and vice versa.

In this instance, Slavisa Jokanovic brought back Tim Ream and the defense looked more solid than it ever did in any 45-minute sequence this Premier League season. On the other hand, Fulham were starved of the ball and had little to work with to spring an attack. You would have thought did nothing with the ball if not for Ryan Sessegnon's shot that hit the crossbar just before halftime.

Loads of fouls did happen to make this contest a bit choppy. It was quite clear that Richarlison was getting whipped out of the game with constant fouls by Fulham's fullback. The collisions were so hard that Timothy Fosu-Mensah had to come off after an awkward landing on his right arm. But besides that, only a Theo Walcott shot from distance was the closest bit of danger for Marcus Bettinelli, who was captaining the side for today.

That's right! Bettinelli went from being third-choice goalkeeper to club captain within the span of seven league appearances. Jokanovic can be a funny human being sometimes.

That said, you got the sense that the Fosu-Mensah injury and the Sessegnon miss were the bad omens that would haunt Fulham the rest of the way. In the second half, Dominic Calvert-Lewin was free on goal and Denis Odoi committed enough contact that left the referee with no choice but to reward the penalty. Fortunately, Gylfi Sigurdsson also had his moment of frustration as he lashed his attempt off the crossbar as well. But instead of having that moment as a pit of misery, Everton pushed on and used it as a catalyst for the rest of their performance.

Just before the hour mark, Lucas Digne sprinted deep in the penalty area and unleashed a cross that fizzed through the box. Denis Odoi tried to clear it out but got so little of the ball off his foot that it found Sigurdsson. From here, the star Icelandic International curler it home to break the deadlock.

Tom Cairney came on at the 60th minute with hopes of changing the game around. Fulham were able to create one greate counter-attacking move where Jean-Michael Seri found Andre Schurrle streaking through the defense. Next, Schurrle found a wide open Luciano one-v-one with Jordan Pickford. Unfortunately, Pickford showed why he was England's number one and claimed the ball with such authority that it sent Vietto flying out of the pitch. Add in a fist pump by Pickford and Fulham's last great chance came to pass.

From here, Everton turned the screw thanks to a poor turnover by Joe Bryan. From there, Walcott turned back the clock to 2009 with a searing run towards the penalty area and unleashed a perfect cross to a wide open Cenk Tosun to make it 2-0.

To put the death nail, substitute Bernard put on a scathing run of his own on the right hand side of the pitch and found a trailing Sigurdsson and put an innocent shot that befuddled Bettinelli.

So a 3-0 scoreline by Everton looks a little more deceiving than usual 3-0 victories. However, Everton controlled the game from the off and Fulham never did enough in attack. It's getting to a point where there needs to be many more ways to strike than just feeding it to Aleksander Mitrovic. Otherwise, any Premier League side with common sense will know how to defend it with ease. Losing to Everton is not the end of the world, but Fulham are losing their chances of climbing up the table. The last thing they want to do is get caught in a relegation fight the rest of the way.

Hugely Disappointing Result Followed By Hugely Disappointing Carabao Cup Draw

Making the long trek back from Goodison Park, where Fulham were beaten 3-0 by Everton, I squeezed through the front door of my humble abode just in time to hear the draw for the 4th round of the Carabao Cup.

After beating Millwall (a), in a tricky third-round tie, I was kind of hoping that the Cottagers would be given a home tie, particularly as I fancy our chances of beating any side, on our day, on our own pitch.

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be.

Fulham were given the toughest tie of the lot!

The draw wasn't very kind to us with those pulling the balls out of the sack giving us an away tie against Manchester City, a side that beat us, comprehensively, recently.

If Fulham are to progress through to the 5th round, they'll have to be on top of their game and hope that Pep Guardiola has bigger fish to fry and plays a weakened side in this competition.
