Leeds target Stefan Johansen could be a shrewd addition by Marcelo Bielsa

Leeds United are reportedly one of four teams that are in a battle for a January transfer raid from Premier League club Fulham.

According to BirminghamLive, Fulham are looking at offloading Stefan Johansen, Floyd Ayite and Neeskens Kebano this month.

It is understood that Leeds, West Brom, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough have all spoken with Fulham about the available trio.

Leeds should focus on their attention on Johansen and it would be an immense feat if they can win the race for his signature.

The 28-year-old midfielder hasn't quite had the best campaign in the top flight at Craven Cottage, but could add some real steel to Marcelo Bielsa's squad.

Johansen is a central midfielder that won promotion with Fulham last season from the Championship and proved his quality in the division.

The Norway international plays in the centre of the park by trade, but can play further forward and make an impact in the final third.

He scored eight goals and supplied nine assists last season across all competitions to prove that.

Leeds would appear to have their work cut out to sign the in-demand ace, but it would be worth the hassle and he's a ready-made option to bring into the squad.

Johansen is a box-to-box operator that could immediately push for a starting position in Bielsa's team and help with a push for promotion.

Before The Whistle: Fulham vs Brighton Preview

Next up for the Whites is a crunch match against the Brighton at the Cottage. Can we spark an unlikely great escape and earn a desperately needed victory? Our man George Singer takes a look!

It's all getting pretty depressing really isn't it... Survival hopes are slipping away, there's little sign of new players coming in and the ones we do have on our books are getting arrested. Our chances of remaining in the Premier League for a second season dwindling fast – and anything other than a win will realistically consign our fate to another season in the Championship.

In a crucial encounter, what should we expect to see from the Seagulls when they migrate north to London to face us at the Cottage on Tuesday?

Recent results

September 2018 Brighton 2 – 2 Fulham

January 2017 Fulham 1 – 2 Brighton

November 2016 Brighton 2 – 1 Fulham

April 2016 Brighton 5 – 0 Fulham

August 2015 Fulham 1 – 2 Brighton

Likely lineup

So what does Brighton's recent form look like? In recent weeks they've had put in some good performances in tough fixtures, but have picked up few points. Their last two games have brought losses against both United and Liverpool, and the match before they let a 2-0 lead slip at the London stadium to draw against West Ham.

After a tricky period, they'll be eyeing up Tuesday as an opportunity to put daylight between themselves and the relegation scrap. In an attempt to earn a result, it's likely that Chris Hughton will deploy the following setup:

Inside the Brighton goal could be a familiar face in David Button, with the former White's favourite (well, maybe not...) filling in the gap left by Matt Ryan. However, with Australia being surprisingly knocked out of the Asian cup on Friday by the UAE, he may be back in time to be between the sticks on Tuesday.

The rest of the Brighton squad is surprisingly strong, and in particular I'll be keeping an eye on one of their recent signings: lanky Dutchman Jurgen Locadia. Joining from the Eredevise in the Summer, he's offered a new dimension to the Seagull's squad. His work rate enables him to contribute in both attack and defence; despite being a wide forward he's happy to drop back to act as a fifth defender when required. When in his more natural attacking role he pins opposition fullbacks back with his advanced positioning, or pouncing behind them on fast counter attacks.

This allows Glen Murray, the veteran striker spearheading the Brighton attack, to play a free target-man role and focus on collecting direct forward passes. He's also adept at finding pockets of space in the box to poach goals from, a role which was played to perfection in the reverse fixture in September.

Singer's corner

In an attempt to mix these articles up a bit, and perhaps trigger a change in fortune for the Whites, I'm adding a section where I give my thoughts on goings on in West London and opinions on what we need to change to make things better.

Let's not beat about the bush – the jump to the Premier League has proved to be too much for this squad. Despite our large summer outlay on players, there's been a clear gulf in quality between where we are and where we need to be. A home match against Brighton is one any side looking to avoid relegation should aim to pick up three points from – and yet I just can't see us winning the game.

Hindsight is always 20/20, however it's looking like our summer window will end up being a hugely expensive failure – and could financially cripple us in years to come. In comparison, Brighton are a side slowly making progress in this department, and we could do worse than try and emulate them. Despite the challenges of promotion, they've managed to supplement a strong yet simple footballing identity with fresh and young prospects purchased across Europe. They've kept the majority of their promotion side intact, and allowed new signings plenty of time to adapt into their own style of play.

Despite being one of the nicest guys in football, I believe Chris Hughton is a manager who probably has hit the limit of his ability. However, he's managed to work together with his upper management team (including Dan Ashworth – a Sporting Director with football knowledge and background!) to create and implement a long term football vision for the club.

This is exactly what we're lacking right now – a strong football vision running through all areas of the club. Whilst our statistical analysis of targets is improving, after the disastrous Craig Kline left the club, the lack of a football brain in recruitment conversations has proved to be our downfall. For an example, take a look at our midfield recruitment this summer:

Jean Michael Seri – who played next to 2 Defensive Midfielders in Nice
Frank Anguissa – who played next to Luis Gustavo, an expert defensive midfielder, in Marseille
Tom Cairney (Not a signing, but we did tie him down to a long contract) who played with two defensive minded midfielders in the Championship

And who are we playing in the defensive midfielder role this season? A makeshift centre back on loan. Whilst Calum Chambers is doing a surprisingly solid role there, I can't help thinking that this was a happy mistake rather than planned. It's certainly something that could have been remedied in the transfer window by a Sporting Director with a stronger footballing background.

Perhaps I'm being a bit negative, but I'd like to see some change in the board room in the Summer, with some extra experience being brought in to the structure to help us rebuild from whatever league we start next year in.

Paper round-up: Palace reportedly targeting Cahill

The Sun on Sunday say Crystal Palace want to take Gary Cahill on loan in a deal which could lead to Scott Dann joining Fulham.

Cahill is set to leave Chelsea but has rejected a move to Fulham, who were keen to sign him.

The Sun on Sunday say Palace are now trying to sign the former England international and that a deal could pave the way for Eagles centre-back Dann to move to Craven Cottage.

Meanwhile, Fulham are interested in a possible deal to sign Antonio Valencia from Manchester United, again according to The Sun on Sunday.

Antonio Valencia could 'leave Man Utd in January transfer window for Prem rival'

The experienced Ecuadorian is out of contract at the end of the season and is now wanted by two Premier League clubs

Manchester United could let Antonio Valencia depart in January with Newcastle and Fulham reportedly considering a move before deadline day.

The Ecuador international has spent almost a decade at Old Trafford and racked up over 200 appearances for the Red Devils.

But he has fallen out of favour this season was slated to leave when his contract expires in the summer.

According to the Sun , he could now be allowed to depart earlier than originally planned, with Premier League strugglers Newcastle and Fulham pondering a loan move or free transfer.

Valencia is said to be shocked by United's plan to let him go so suddenly having originally planned to play out the remainder of the season.

A move to Newcastle could rely on United being willing to pay up his contract and allow a free transfer, with other teams considering the option of taking on his big weekly wage of £100,000 plus for the rest of the season in a loan switch.

Fulham have moved in on Valencia after missing out on top target Victor Moses, who sealed a loan switch from Chelsea to Fenerbahce last week.

Fellow full-back Matteo Darmian is also closing in on a return to Italy as the clock ticks down on the transfer window.

Should Celtic rival Leeds United for midfielder Stefan Johansen?

Johansen played for Celtic for two years between 2014 and 2016, and Leeds are reportedly keen on the Fulham star.

Leeds United are reportedly interested in signing Fulham midfielder Stefan Johansen before the end of the January transfer window - but Celtic should beat the Championship side and lure the Norwegian back to Parkhead.

The Birmingham Mail claims Leeds are interested in three Fulham players, in Floyd Ayite, Neeskens Kebano and Johansen. But the Whites face competition from Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough.

Johansen, 28, is the pick of the three players. He was absolutely crucial during Fulham's promotion to the Premier League last season, scoring eight goals and creating nine. He played 48 of Fulham's 49 league games - including play-offs.

Now, Leeds are said to be keen on bringing the 46-time Norway international to Elland Road in a bid to boost their promotion hunt, but Celtic simply cannot let that happen.

The Hoops could do with additions in the middle of the park. Doubts remain over the future of captain Scott Brown, while Olivier Ntcham has been linked with a £14million move to FC Porto (Scottish Sun).

Johansen played for Celtic for two years before joining Fulham in the summer of 2016, after joining the Hoops in January 2014. In that time, he clocked up 114 appearances, scored 19 goals and created 22 more.

He helped Celtic pick up three Scottish Premiership titles, as well as a League Cup title and the SFA Player of the Year award for 2014-15. Now, he is out of contract at Fulham.

Indeed, Johansen's contract expires at the end of the season and since Claudio Ranieri has been installed as the new Fulham manager, Johansen has been left out of the side.

It looks as though the midfielder is set to leave, and Celtic have to rival Leeds to bring him back to Celtic Park with doubts surrounding their current midfielders' futures.

Newcastle United, Fulham and Cardiff City 'really like' Cameroon captain, January transfer possible

According to a claim on Sunday morning, Newcastle United, Fulham and Cardiff City are all taking an interest in Slavia Prague central defender Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui.

The club 'really like' the Cameroon captain.

With the transfer window to close in the coming days the three Premier League sides are still looking to bring in some new additions and the 28 year old is presented as a possibility.

Calciomercato.it today report Ngadeu-Ngadjui could end up in the Premier League before Thursday's deadline.

The clubs find themselves in a relegation fight and need to bolster their squads in this transfer window in order to consolidate their places in the division.

Fulham's problems at the back this season have been well documented and they've been linked with other central defenders in recent weeks, especially from Serie A.

Cardiff City themselves could be looking to strengthen their defensive options after conceding 44 goals in the league this season.

Rafael Benitez would also be hoping to bring in reinforcements but he would need to get backing from the Newcastle United board, which again could be difficult.

Ngadeu-Ngadjui is contracted to Slavia Prague until June 2020.

Chelsea defender set for Palace move to free up Dann switch to Fulham

Gary Cahill and Scott Dann are set to switch west for south London respectively before the transfer window closes on Thursday, The Sun reports.

The Chelsea club captain has been linked with a move all month but had not been tempted by any of the offers that came his way, though interest from Crystal Palace is set to change that.

Fulham had wanted to sign the 33-year-old as they aim to patch up their porous defence but Claudio Ranieri confirmed that he was unconvinced Cahill wanted to aid in their bid to stave off the threat of relegation.

It seems, however, that the veteran centre-back is willing to partake in a relegation battle at Palace in a move that would see him reunited with former England boss Roy Hodgson.

Having been seemingly rebuffed in their approach for Cahill, Fulham reportedly switched their attentions to Eagles centre-back Scott Dann, and it's a move Palace are willing to sanction providing they sign a replacement.

Cahill now looks set to be that man, with a loan move in the offing but both parties are open to a permanent switch, though that is most likely to be made at the end of the season.

The former England international hasn't started a single league game under Maurizio Sarri, while Dann - following a long-term injury, has failed to force his way back into the first team at Palace and is also yet to start in England's top-flight this season.

EXCLUSIVE: Leeds, Villa, West Brom, Boro all want Fulham trio

A host of Championship clubs are battling to sign some of Fulham's promotion stars with Stefan Johansen, Floyd Ayite and Neeskens Kebano, we can reveal.

West Brom, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa have all spoken about the trio, who played big roles in the Cottagers promotion last season – but Claudio Ranieri has told the trio they can move on this month.

Norwegian creator Johansen, and wingers Ayite and Kebano will now have a choice of clubs – whilst there is also interest from Italy and France.

Aboubakar Kamara – who has been suspended by Fulham – has also been the subject of interest, but we understand possible assault charges against the player could impact on his immediate future.

Roma have reached an agreement in principle with Atalanta to sign Gianluca Mancini, who has been linked with Everton, Fulham and Wolves, next summer.

The 22-year-old centre-back has been attracted interest from several clubs in Europe due to his consistent performances in Italian football.

Mancini has been growing in stature in Serie A and he has been regularly tracked by a slew of clubs over the last few months with a view to signing him in the future.

He has had strong interest from England in this month's transfer window with Everton, Fulham and Wolves all being linked with being keen.

But Roma have acted decisively on their interest in Mancini and, according to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, they have agreed a deal in principle with Atalanta to sign the player at the end of the season.

The two clubs will chalk out the final print of the agreement over the next few months, but a rough deal is in place that will see Roma pay a fee of €25m to Atalanta for the 22-year-old.

Roma have also prepared a five-year contract worth €1.5m per season for Mancini.

The Giallorossi are keen to make sure that they get the deal officially done in order to avoid any other clubs jumping in with more money for Atalanta and the player.

It remains to be seen if any of Mancini's Premier League suitors will try to hijack the deal, or move before the transfer window closes this month.

More on Fulham's offer for player, and where the situation stands now

On Saturday we covered a report from O Jogo which stated Fulham have made an €8m offer to sign Andre Almeida from Benfica.

The Portuguese newspaper explained it was a good chance for the 28 year old to get a big contract, having spent his entire career in his own country.

A transfer before the window closes next week wasn't ruled out, but it was reported Benfica would like some more money and would also have to bring a replacement in, given Almeida is a regular.

Sunday's edition of the same newspaper reports Fulham sent an official to watch Almeida in action on January 22nd against Porto.

He played at right back as Porto won 3-1.

Almeida can play either fullback position or in midfield, but O Jogo say Fulham see him as a right back.

As it stands, Benfica are still holding out for a higher transfer fee.

The Lisbon club's president Luís Filipe Vieira sees the amount as 'insufficient' and there's also worry whether there's enough time to bring someone in who would offer the same level as Almeida.

Man Utd could allow Valencia to join Fulham or Newcastle

Manchester United could allow captain Antonio Valencia to leave Old Trafford this week amid interest from Fulham and Newcastle United, according to reports.

The Ecuadorian has featured in just five Premier League matches for United this season and only once under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Valencia has won two Premier League titles since joining the club in 2009 from Wigan, while he has 338 appearances to his name for United.

The right-back, whose contract is up at the end of the season, fell out of favour near the end of Jose Mourinho's tenure at the club.

United's decision to sack Mourinho reportedly caused five senior United players to reconsider their uncertain Old Trafford futures, with reports suggesting in December that Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Marcos Rojo, Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez are all apparently happy to see the back of Mourinho.

And The Sun claims that Fulham are keen after missing out on Victor Moses, while Rafa Benitez would be willing to bring Valencia to Newcastle if United paid up his contract.

West Ham have also been recently linked with a move for Valencia and a loan option could be another alternative for potential suitors.

The report adds that Valencia was happy to play out the rest of his £100,000-a-week terms and is 'shocked by United letting him go so soon'.

West Brom eye move for 23-year-old Premier League striker after allowing Sako to move on

Championship promotion chasers West Brom are looking into the possibility of signing Fulham outcast Aboubakar Kamara.

The 23-year-old is firmly out in the wilderness at Craven Cottage after a number of off-field incidents involving Aleksandr Mitrovic, as well as an on pitch issue revolving around penalty taking duties a couple of weeks back.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Kamara could be offered an escape route from the Cottage by Darren Moore's Baggies, who are looking at adding to their squad after allowing Bakary Sako to make a move away from the club this morning.

Four Championship clubs on alert over Fulham fire sale in latest transfer news and gossip

Leeds, Aston Villa, West Brom and Middlesbrough apparently ready to pounce

The mid-season transfer window comes to a close on Thursday, giving the clubs in the division just a few more days to conclude deals that could potentially make or break their campaign.

The play-off fight and the quest to avoid relegation are both delicately poised, which has already led to plenty of action in the window with 19 of the 24 clubs in the division signing new players this month.

Further action is expected before Thursday's deadline and we have gathered the latest gossip below.

The Daily Mail reports that Birmingham City face a fight to retain the services of 16-year-old striker Romello Mitchell, with Liverpool and Manchester United interested in his signature after his impressive performances for the Blues U18 side this season.

Stoke City are eyeing a reshuffle to their attacking lines this week, with manager Nathan Jones apparently reviving interest in Burnley forward Sam Vokes. Should a £9m move be completed, it would, it is claimed, open the door for either Saido Berahino, Peter Crouch or Benik Afobe to leave.

Then there's three centre-halves who are apparently on the short-list: Matt Clarke, from Portsmouth, Wolves' Danny Batth, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, and Barnsley's Liam Lindsay.

Attacking changes could also be on the cards at Sheffield United, as The Sheffield Star reveal that three Championship clubs are interested in 33-year-old striker Leon Clarke, with Bristol City and Millwall understood to be keen on a deal.

A deal between Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers is also tipped to be completed imminently, with Teesside Live reporting that Boro winger Harry Chapman has been given permission to talk with Rovers - where he impressed on loan last season.

New Nottingham Forest boss Martin O'Neill is set for a busy few days in the window, with Nottinghamshire Live stating that Danny Fox will complete a move to Wigan this week and the former Republic of Ireland boss has identified Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings as a replacement, although further defensive deals are expected.

West Brom, Leeds, Middlesbrough and Aston Villa are said to be looking to take advantage of Claudio Ranieri's clear-out at Fulham, TeamTalk report, with Stefan Johansen, Floyd Ayite and Neeskens Kebano all being informed they can leave before Thursday evening's 11pm deadline.

Finally, title-chasers Norwich City could also be active in the final days of the window as manager Daniel Farke told The Eastern Daily Press that he is eyeing a new winger - although he will not recall Ben Marshall from his loan with Millwall.

NEWCASTLE COULD BENEFIT FROM KAMARA FALLOUT

Newcastle United must benefit from Aboubakar Kamara's unsavoury exile from Fulham by offering the striker a shock escape route from Craven Cottage.

The French forward has been banned from all club activities by the Cottagers after being arrested over training ground fight with a member for staff earlier this week, as reported by the Guardian.

The incident follows recent clashes with fellow forward Aleksandar Mitrovic, including one reported dispute during a team yoga session.

It is highly likely that Fulham will move the 23-year-old on this month as a result, and Newcastle must step up to bring him to Tyneside in what would be a huge roll of the dice.

According to the Daily Mail, West Brom are keen on giving Kamara a chance at the Hawthorns, but the forward has proven that he is good enough to cut in the top tier, and could be exactly the kind of ruthless nuisance that the Magpies are lacking.

The former Monaco youth player has scored five goals in all competitions so far this season, but his appeal goes far beyond his ability in front of goal.

The Frenchman is force of nature – a bustling, physical handful who can cause problems for any defence just by putting himself about a bit.

Newcastle have lacked anybody with any kind of real bite this season, especially up front.

Salomon Rondon has done very well since going from West Brom, but he is far more technical than your average 'big man' and doesn't always relish a gritty battle in the same way that Kamara does.

He would be a serious gamble, but the Fulham man could be the ideal foil for the Venezuelan when the going gets tough.

Villa showing an interest in unwanted Fulham trio

According to an article by TeamTalk, Aston Villa are just one of a number of clubs who are showing interest in three Fulham players who have been told that they can leave the club this month.

Stefan Johansen, Neeskens Kebano, and Floyd Ayite have been told by Claudio Ranieri that they are surplus to requirements and there has been no shortage of Championship clubs who are willing to sign them. Along with Villa, it is believed that Leeds, West Brom, and Middlesbrough are all interested.

Out of the aforementioned players, Norwegian play-maker Johansen is probably the pick of the bunch. The 28-year-old played a crucial role in helping Fulham get promoted to the Premier League last season – he played 48 of their 49 league matches and scored 8 goals and provided 9 assists.

Our Verdict

Villa could do with adding some creativity to their midfield, so if Johansen is cheap enough, he would surely be a great addition to the squad.

With regards to Ayite and Kebano, Dean Smith's side could do with another winger as Adomah has been poor the whole season and El-Ghazi is just too inconsistent. Therefore, once again, if the price is right, they should consider making a move for one them.

Can Arsenal recall Calum Chambers? Loan details revealed amid Gunners injury crisis

Sokratis has added to Arsenal's injury concerns and there has been calls for Chambers to return from Fulham

Arsenal do not have the option to recall Calum Chambers from his Fulham loan.

The Gunners have been hit with a defensive crisis ahead of the visit of Cardiff on Tuesday night.

Unai Emery was already without Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding to long-term injuries before Laurent Koscielny and Sokratis suffered blows against Manchester United .

Fears that Koscielny had broken his jaw have been allayed but Sokratis is set to be out for at least a month.

The setbacks leave Emery desperately short of options in central defence, with his side also taking on Manchester City next weekend.

Emery is expected to dip into the transfer market for a short-term fix with Gary Cahill a possible loan target.

Some Arsenal fans have also called on the club to recall Chambers from his loan at Fulham.

The 24-year-old has been deployed in a holding midfield role by Claudio Ranieri and has turned in some impressive performances.

But there is no chance of him returning to the Emirates this month.

There is no clause in the loan agreement that would allow the Gunners to recall Chambers, even if they managed to persuade Fulham to let him go.

It means Emery will have to bring in a new face this month to add to his options.

Aston Villa keen to seal transfer deals for THREE players from same club - reports

Latest AVFC transfer news includes the latest ahead of Thursday's deadline

Aston Villa are battling to sign three players from Fulham before the transfer window closes, according to reports.

The claret and blues have until 11pm on Thursday to get deals over the line in order to boost their play-off bid.

Dean Smith revealed after Saturday's win over Ipswich Town that Villa are hoping to add as many as three new recruits.

And they are being liked with a trio of players – all from Fulham.

TeamTalk report that Villa are among the sides interested in signing Stefan Johansen, Floyd Ayite and Neeskens Kebano.

They each had a hand in Fulham's promotion to the Premier League last season, achieved by beating Villa in the play-off final at Wembley in May.

But the Craven Cottage club are said to be willing to let them go – with manager Claudio Ranieri having told them they are free to move.

Johansen, a creative midfielder, played 48 times for Fulham last term but has made only 12 Premier League appearances, of which eight came from the bench.

The Norwegian international, who joined the club from Celtic in 2016, is out of contract at the end of the season though there is a further year's option that can be triggered.

Winger Ayite has also struggled for playing time after playing a vital part in Fulham's promotion, appearing only ten times this campaign.

He is also out of contract in the summer, with a year's option, after signing from Bastia in 2016.

Kebano, meanwhile, who can play as an attacking midfielder on either wing, has just 61 minutes of league football under his belt this season.

He also signed for Fulham in 2016, from Genk, and is under the same contract situation.

The reports adds that West Bromwich Albion, Leeds United and Middlesbrough are also interested.

Villa boss Smith said after the victory against Ipswich which was secured by two goals from Tammy Abraham: "I thought we started the game really well, we camped in their half, moved the ball around really well, showed quality and got a deserved goal.

"Tammy's got 19 now, another great ball from Conor Hourihane, another assist from him who's up there in the league charts with assists.

"We've got some players coming back it was great to get Mile on the pitch today.

"We're hoping to do some deals before Thursday as well.

"We needed to get that win today and I thought we thoroughly deserved it."

Babel: I came to help Fulham in their fight against relegation

Dutch striker Ryan Babel spoke to the NOS Bert Maalderink about his loan move to Fulham from Besiktas.

The 32-year-old made the surprise transfer from Besiktas to Fulham earlier this month on a deal until the end of the season.

Babel said, "I never thought that I would be playing for Fulham FC although I came close to signing for the club in my third year at Liverpool FC in the past.

"I will admit that I have had many transfers through the years during my career but I have always found it easy to adapt in all environments '

"I believe that at times in the past I needed a change but you must also take your chances when they come along. In most cases it was a decision I took in order to improve my career.

"Before I left Deportivo La Coruna and went to Besiktas I thought to myself that Besiktas are fighting for the title and playing European football and I can play European football again for the first time in a while and also be in contention to play for the Dutch national team again which is how things have worked out.

"It is nice to play Premier League football again and my contract with Besiktas is coming to an end this summer. I think that if you ask every player with his contract ending if he wants to play in the Premier League he would say yes."

"I have come here to Fulham FC to help the club in their fight against relegation and that is important for me if I do not achieve it I will feel like I have failed."

Fulham shouldn't think twice about tightening their defence by signing this 6ft 3in giant before deadline day

Why Rafael Toloi could be an excellent signing for Fulham

According to a report from Tuttomercatoweb, Fulham are looking to sign Rafael Toloi in the January transfer window.

The Cottagers are struggling in the Premier League this season despite spending a lot of money during the summer transfer window. They are 19th in the Premier League table and desperately need to start gaining points to avoid relegation this term.

Fulham have the worst defensive record in the Premier League, with 51 goals already conceded this season. It's no more a secret where manager Claudio Ranieri's priority lies as he is probably looking to address his defence by bringing in Rafael Toloi.

Rafael Toloi, 28, has been a regular for Atalanta this season, scoring once and supplying five assists in 23 appearances. The Brazilian is contracted to Atalanta until 2020, so the Serie A club could be tempted to cash in on the player if Fulham table an eye-catching offer this month.

Rafael Toloi has been excellent for Atalanta since his move from Roma back in 2015, helping Gian Piero Gasperini's side punch above their weight and finish in the Europa League places in each of the last two seasons.

And he has managed to hit the ground running this season as well, impressing with his all-action defensive displays in the Serie A.

Standing at 6ft 3in, Toloi is quite tall and well-built for a central defender, which allows him to be comfortable in contact situations. Despite possessing a towering frame, he gets off the ground quickly and times his jump to perfection to win aerial duels.

The Brazilian is a technically blessed player who is comfortable in bringing the ball out from the back. He uses his wonderful passing range to set up chances for his teammates.

Furthermore, the 28-year-old is known for his composure as a defender and he does not tend to commit to reckless challenges in one-on-one situations. To put things into perspective, Toloi might just be the one that Fulham need to shore up their porous backline.

The likes of Denis Odoi, Tim Ream, Alfie Mawson and Maxime Le Marchand have all struggled for consistency this season, leaving the Cottagers in shambles defensively. Although Fulham have looked more compact and organised under Ranieri, a player like Toloi would certainly help tighten up the screws, adding some much-needed physicality to the defence.

Hence, the west Londoners must do everything possible to lure Toloi away from Atalanta to the Premier League this month.
