Fulham complete loan deal for Nordtveit

Fulham have completed the signing of Havard Nordtveit on loan from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim, the Premier League side have confirmed via their official website.

What's the word?

Nordtveit is well aware of the rigours of English football and spent part of his career at Arsenal between 2007 and 2011, though he failed to make his first-team debut for the club.

He also spent the 2016-17 season at West Ham United, making a total of 21 appearances for the club, per Transfermarkt.

Nordtveit has struggled for minutes at Hoffenheim thus far this season, however, playing eight times in the Bundesliga and three times in the Champions League.

He has now returned to English football with Fulham, as they attempt to climb their way out of the relegation zone.

Claudio Ranieri's men are currently 19th with 17 points, six points behind 17th-placed Burnley.

Strange addition

While Nordtveit bolsters Fulham's squad, there were precious few signs at West Ham that he was cut out for English football.

Liverpool complete transfer of misfit Lazar Markovic to Fulham

When a switch to Besiktas looked to have fallen through the Serbian appeared set to stay - until Craven Cottage came calling

Liverpool have finally rid themselves of £25million misfit Lazar Markovic.

The Serbian international winger has ended his Anfield hell by joining Fulham on a free transfer.

Markovic, 24, had looked set to remain on Merseyside after a switch to Besiktas fell through on Deadline Day

But in the closing moments of Thursday, the Cottagers announced that a deal sheet had been handed into the Premier League with regards the ex-Benfica midfielder.

And on Friday, Markovic's move to west London was confirmed.

Fulham stated that Markovic, who has played 34 times for the Reds but not once this season, was signed after being recommended by compatriot Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Club owner Tony Khan said the 24-year-old will strengthen their attack.

"Lazar Markovic is a gifted young player. We're pleased to welcome him from Liverpool for the remainder of the season," Khan said.

"Lazar is known as a great teammate, he has the support of our Manager, and he has the talent to strengthen our attack. Come on Fulham!"

Markovic's deal had been due to expire at Anfield at the end of the season and he had been training with Liverpool's Under-23 side, unwanted by Jurgen Klopp.

DOUBLE SWOOP Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic and Hoffenheim midfielder Havard Nordtveit join Fulham in late deadline day moves

The Cottagers confirmed the permanent deal for Markovic almost 90 minutes after the January transfer window closed

Fulham completed the double signing of Liverpool's out-of-favour winger Lazar Markovic, in a free transfer, and Hoffenheim's Norwegian midfielder Havard Nordtveit, on loan, late on transfer deadline day.

The deal for Markovic is a permanent one just until the end of the season, having been released by Liverpool. The surprise move was confirmed almost 90 minutes after the January transfer window's 11pm deadline.

The duo join the Cottagers on the same day suspended striker Aboubakar Kamara left on loan for Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor.

Having already signed former Liverpool man Ryan Babel on loan earlier this month, they have now added Markovic to their ranks after "receiving very good recommendations from Aleksandar Mitrovic" – his fellow Serbia international.

Markovic has been at Liverpool since 2014 after signing from Benfica for £20m but has failed to live up to his price tag, making just 34 appearances for the Reds.

The 24-year-old spent much of his time at Anfield out on loan, having temporary spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, Hull and Anderlecht, but has now left Liverpool for good after being released from his contract.

Meanwhile, versatile Norwegian Nordtveit has also joined the Cottagers on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 28-year-old previously played in England for West Ham, making 21 appearances in 2016-17, and can play in central defensive as well as a defensive midfielder.

"I'm really happy to have the opportunity to come back to the Premier League and hopefully help Fulham to a safe place," said Nordtveit.

"That would be a something that I would put high on my list in my career."
