Headlines once again revolve around Wilfried Zaha as he bites on provocation – and he might not be only Crystal Palace man missing Fulham clash

This was definitely two points dropped. Drawing at a resurgent Southampton is no disgrace, but frustrating when Palace were the better team throughout.

As is so often the case, the headlines all revolve around Wilfried Zaha. Palace fans saw the good and the bad of their star man at St Mary's Stadium.

He was the most threatening player on the pitch throughout and scored his first Premier League goal since the win at Huddersfield in mid-September, ending a barren spell of 17 matches.

But he was also sent off late on in the most ridiculous of circumstances and will miss the crucial clash against Fulham at Selhurst Park tomorrow.

The 26-year-old received a booking for reacting angrily to a challenge from Southampton wing-back James Ward-Prowse, and then got another yellow card just seconds later when he ironically applauded Andre Marriner's decision to show him the first.

Zaha, cautioned seven times this season before the midweek match, took to Twitter afterwards in placatory mood. He said: "All I can do is apologise to the team and the fans for my red card, because I could have cost us."

But the true cost won't be known until 5pm on Saturday with Palace now just four points off the bottom three.

There is even a risk of Zaha's ban being extended, given that he remained on the pitch to continue applauding Marriner and the Southampton fans. He had to be encouraged off by his team-mates.

Zaha may not be the only loss for Saturday.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson confirmed that Cheikhou Kouyate and James Tomkins will both need to be assessed after being subbed off at St Mary's with ankle and hamstring injuries respectively.

Returning to the team that narrowly lost a thriller at Anfield, the former England head coach deployed Andros Townsend, Jordan Ayew and Zaha in a three-pronged attack.

They caused Southampton plenty of problems and could have gone in at the break with more than a goal's advantage.

Despite only having scored once, through Zaha's drilled shot into the bottom corner of the net four minutes before the break, the Eagles were giving nothing away at the other end of the pitch.

Kouyate, Luka Milivojevic and James McArthur were providing plenty of protection for the back four and Southampton hardly threatened other than a low shot from Pierre Emile Hojbjerg which Vincente Guaita saved low to his left.

For Palace, James McArthur shot wastefully wide after Zaha had picked him out on the edge of the box while Ayew robbed a Saints defender and burst towards goal only to have his shot blocked by a last-ditch tackle.

It was a case of so far, so good.

But, as has been the case too many times this season, Hodgson's side just couldn't get it over the line.

The pattern of play hardly changed. Still the home side got little change out of a resilient Palace and it was the visitors who continued to look more threatening in the second half.

Hodgson felt his players were given little help from Marriner, though insisted the official was only following protocol in sending Zaha off for his petulance.

The 71-year-old was annoyed about a dangerous-looking studs-raised tackle from Jack Stephens on Townsend after half an hour which went completely unpunished. He had every right to feel aggrieved about that.

He also felt his side were denied a penalty when Tomkins was flattened in a goalmouth scramble following a corner in the second half.

But ultimately, Palace had only themselves to blame for failing to secure their fifth away win of the season.
Mamadou Sakho twice should have scored in the second half with one effort being cleared off the line before he wastefully headed over from close range. But the Frenchman was colossal at the other end, constantly snuffing out Southampton attacks before they really got going.

There were other positives too. Aaron Wan-Bissaka continues his impressive development at right-back and the front three combination again showed enough to suggest they can prove a threat for any side.

Townsend is taking more and more responsibility and was arguably the game's best player, at the heart of all the team's best work.

It was he who set up the goal, sprinting across the penalty area to pick out Zaha and being taken out by Oriol Romeu in the process.

But ultimately, the travelling Palace faithful are likely to remember the night for the wrong reasons.

James Ward-Prowse's equaliser 13 minutes from time – against the run of play with the Eagles seemingly in full control – and Zaha's indiscretion remained the wider talking point.

Palace (4-3-3):  Guaita 6, Wan-Bissaka 7, Tomkins 7 (Dann 90), Sakho 7, Van Aanholt 7 McArthur 6, Milivojevic 7, Kouyate 7  (Schlupp 70, 6), Townsend 7, Ayew 6, Zaha 7. Not used: Hennessey, Dann, Meyer, Schlupp, Benteke, Wickham, Kelly.

Before The Whistle: Crystal Palace vs Fulham Preview

After a precious victory over Brighton at the Cottage on Tuesday evening, we're back in Premier League action on Saturday. Next up is a short trip to Selhurst Park, and we'll be facing our old friend Roy Hodgson and his Crystal Palace side. Our man George Singer is here to take a look at what we can expect from the game!

It's amazing the difference a win makes isn't it? At half time I was sitting in the Johnny Haynes stand, drinking a lukewarm Bovril, and felt resigned to spending next season watching us play against Luton Town. However, 45 magnificent minutes later, and it's all changed. Hope is starting to bubble up inside me. We couldn't actually do it, could we..?

Whilst there's plenty of permutations this weekend's results could bring, a win is likely to bring us within 3 points of safety – a situation that felt far-fetched just a couple of weeks ago. In our way is a Crystal Palace side starting to feel the pressure themselves too, and will be desperate to get some breathing space between them and the drop zone.

Recent results

August 2018 Fulham 0 – 2 Crystal Palace

May 2014 Fulham 2 – 2 Crystal Palace

October 2013 Crystal Palace 1 – 4 Fulham

January 2005 Fulham 3 – 1 Crystal Palace

October 2004 Crystal Palace 2 – 0 Fulham

Likely lineup

Despite overseeing a remarkable turnaround in Palace's fortunes, after Frank De Boer's goalless tenure, Roy Hodgson's side have slowly slipped down the table in recent weeks. After a draw at St Mary's earlier in the week, they now sit just 4 points from safety, and without an upturn in form may get sucked even further into the relegation dogfight.

Despite missing some key faces, Hodgson is likely to employ the 4-3-3 formation – something he's been favouring in recent weeks.

Hodgson will need to make a choice between now-fit Vicente Guita and Wayne Hennessey, with usual first-choice Welshman the most likely to get the nod between the sticks. Whichever gets the nod will replace Veteran keeper Julian Speroni – a significant boost considering the shocking game he had at Anfield a week ago.

In front of the keeper will be the same back 4 that Palace have employed throughout the season – who are all very comfortable playing with each other. Expect their fullbacks to push high up the pitch, as Van Aanholt and (notably) Wan Bissaka offer significant attacking threat with key passes and crosses.

In attack the notable absentee is Wilfred Zaha, who picked up two yellow cards against Southampton on Wednesday – a major boost for Ranieri's men. His likely replacement Schlupp is certainly no slouch however, and with Ayew and Townsend will make up a formidable physical attack. Their speed on the ball is a real weapon on the counter, and Ayew is one of the best forwards in the league at applying pressure to opposition defences when not in possession. New signing Michy Batshuayi, a deadline day loan move from Chelsea, becomes a new option for the Eagles – however it's more likely he'll start the game from the bench.

Singer's Corner

Whilst he's known as the Tinkerman, Tuesday showed why Ranieri needs to employ more tactical flexibility going forward.

It was clear from the first minute that our 5-2-3 formation was going to play right into Brighton's hands. They're a side who pack the middle of the pitch, and our two man midfield had no options to create chances for our isolated front 3. The only attacking avenue came through Seri, who only through his genius was able to spray balls out to our fullbacks. Despite their impressive workrate, they really struggled to generate quality chances, with their weak crosses being comfortably dealt with by Dunk and Duffy.

And then, 25 minutes in and two goals down, Ranieri made the change to the system he should have started the game with, bringing Tom Cairney on for Tim Ream. Combining this with bringing on Vietto for Schurrle, we moved into a 4-2-3-1 and the game was flipped onto it's head. The 3 men sitting behind Mitrovic provided a route from our midfield to our super Serb, and our players were able to play the passing style of football that they do best. Cairney, despite looking a little uncomfortable on the right wing, deserves heaps of praise for his ability to play the right ball at the right time, and surely is a must to start against Palace.

I have no issues at all with the 5-2-3. It certainly has it's place, and (despite not earning any points) brought some excellent performances against Chelsea, Arsenal and Spurs. However, Ranieri needs to learn when is the right time to deploy it, and when it isn't. Against the big boys, it'll allow us to sit back, soak up pressure and pounce on the counter. However, against sides that sit back, it leaves us hamstrung and without any real attacking options.

The Palace game is a huge opportunity for this side, and we can't make the same mistakes we made against Brighton. Despite their (bizarre) rivalry, they're a side that play a very similar style of football: pack the midfield, sit back, then hit on the counter. If Ranieri isn't stubborn, and can quickly learn from his mistakes from last week, then this could be the start of a crucial run results in our season.

Liverpool castaway Markovic ends nightmare spell with free transfer to Fulham
After failing to make an impact at Liverpool, Lazar Markovic has finally left the Reds.

FULHAM HAVE SIGNED Liverpool outcast Lazar Markovic on a free transfer, with the winger moving to Craven Cottage on a deal until the end of the season.

Markovic's move ends a miserable four-and-a-half-year spell at Anfield – he made just 34 appearances for the first team following a big-money switch from Benfica in July 2014.

The 24-year-old has spent loan spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting CP, Hull City and Anderlecht in the last three campaigns, while he has not featured at all for Jurgen Klopp's Reds this term.

Markovic will hope to kick-start his career with a move to relegation-threatened Fulham, who had confirmed the arrival of Havard Nordtveit on loan from Hoffenheim earlier on transfer deadline day.

In announcing the signing, Fulham revealed Aleksandar Mitrovic had recommended his fellow Serbia international to the club after the pair previously played together at Partizan Belgrade.

"Lazar Markovic is a gifted young player; we're pleased to welcome him from Liverpool for the remainder of the season," Fulham vice-chairman Tony Khan said.

"Lazar is known as a great team-mate, he has the support of our manager, and he has the talent to strengthen our attack. Come on Fulham!"

Liverpool also announced the deal on their website via a short statement, wishing Markovic all the best at his new club.

After clubs agreed deal, player's transfer to Fulham collapsed minutes before deadline

Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui plays for Czech Republican club SK Slavia Prague and was on the verge of completing a switch to Fulham on the final day of the winter transfer window.

The Cottagers and SK Slavia Prague agreed a fee for the Cameroon international and he was also expected to undergo a medical.

This was confirmed by SK Slavia Prague chairman Jindřich Trpišovský on Thursday.

"In spite of the fact that Slavia agreed to a deal around 23 hours and [Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui] went for medical tests, it was not completed today," Trpišovský tweeted.

Despite failing to complete a switch to Craven Cottage, the African defender still remains calm and will return to his current club at the start of the next week.

"MNN [Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui] remains in Slavia. He is absolutely cool and will be back in Prague and will join us on Monday," he added.

Journalist Lukas Vrablik tweeted that his transfer to Fulham was close, but the deal collapsed 'minutes before the deadline'.

Ngadeu-Ngadjui has played in 22 matches between the league and the Europa League and in these fixtures, SK Slavia Prague has kept 12 clean sheets and conceded 14 goals in the process.

The 28-year-old central defender would have been a valuable addition to Claudio Ranieri's side, who have the worst defensive record in the Premier League.

U18s: Postponement

Fulham Under-18s' game against West Ham United has been postponed due to the adverse weather conditions.

The game was due to take place tomorrow morning at 11am, but the heavy snow and ice means it is no longer possible.

The fixture has been rearranged for Saturday 23rd March with the kick off remaining the same.

Fulham fans take to Twitter to lambaste Tony Khan for Markovic move

Fulham are a club in real danger. The Cottagers have been a permanent fixture of the relegation zone since October 20th when they fell unto the bottom three after suffering a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Cardiff. However, with January a chance to bring in some men to plug their leaky defence, the fans are fuming that they've signed Lazar Markovic.

In their 24 games so far this season in the Premier League, Fulham have shipped 54 goals. That is not something to be proud of and if they want to stay in the English top flight then that will have to change. At the other end, the 2018 playoff winners have had much better fortunes and have scored 25 goals, more than Newcastle, Huddersfield, Crystal Palace and Cardiff.

Given those stats, the fact that they've failed to bring in any sort of defender and have instead prioritised a new winger is an absolute disgrace and it's not at all hard to see why the Craven Cottage faithful are livid with their management. If they had got their wish they wouldn't have touched Markovic with a barge pole and would have instead gone hell for leather to bring in one or two defenders to sort out their leaky defence.

The reason Fulham decided to take late transfer gamble on Liverpool £20m outcast Lazar Markovic

Markovic's Liverpool career is finally over after he joined Fulham on a free transfer

After nearly four years without a Liverpool appearance to his name, Lazar Markovic has finally moved on.

The Serbian winger hadn't played a game for the Reds since 2015 and had long since been surplus to requirements at Anfield, having had four different loan spells during Jurgen Klopp's time as manager.

Markovic was into the final few months of a five-year deal signed in July 2014 and he finally departs Anfield for the Cottagers on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Lazar Markovic

It's undoubtedly a gamble for the relegation-threatened Cottagers as they seek to desperately retain their status as a Premier League club.

However, it appears as though Fulham boss Claudio Ranieri was prepared to back the judgement of star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.

In a statement released on the club's official website in the early hours of Friday morning, Fulham detailed how top-scorer Mitrovic had recommended his Serbian compatriot.

Aleksandar Mitrovic celebrates (Image: Steve Bardens/Getty Images)

"The club is delighted to confirm the free transfer signing of 24-year-old winger Lazar Markovic from Liverpool on a deal until the end of the season," read the statement which was released shortly after midnight.

"Fulham received very good recommendations from Aleksandar Mitrovic regarding the player."

The move mercifully brings an end to a deeply disappointing period of Markovic's career.

May 2015 was the last time Markovic stepped on to the pitch as Liverpool and four failed loan spells did little to relight the spark that once made the winger one of the most highly-rated teenagers in European football.

Fulham vice chairman Tony Khan said: "Lazar Markovic is a gifted young player; we're pleased to welcome him from Liverpool for the remainder of the season.

"Lazar is known as a great teammate, he has the support of our manager, and he has the talent to strengthen our attack. Come on Fulham!"

Michy Batshuayi could make Crystal Palace debut against Fulham as he jets in to London

Crystal Palace were today waiting for Michy Batshuayi to arrive at the club before deciding if he would go straight into their squad against Fulham on Saturday.

Batshuayi joined Palace on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season after his future was finally resolved after yesterday's 11pm transfer deadline.

The Belgium international, who was on loan at Valencia, was due to arrive in London this morning. The deal was ratified by the Premier League in time for him to face Fulham and Palace manager Roy Hodgson was today due to weigh up whether to name him on the bench at Selhurst Park tomorrow. Batshuayi was left in limbo for most of yesterday as Chelsea explored selling him to Everton and loaning him out to West Ham and Real Betis. A late move to Tottenham was even mooted before he was offered to Palace last night.

The deal was finally ratified in the early hours of the morning and Palace will pay a £1million loan fee for the 25-year-old.

Palace were searching for a striker all January and hope Batshuayi can help fire up their frontline, with them having scored only 24 goals in the Premier League this season.

The Eagles have Christian Benteke and Connor Wickham fit again but neither have started in the League since returning from injury, and Wilfried Zaha is suspended tomorrow.

Batshuayi endured a difficult first half of the season at Valencia and the Spaniards made it clear they did not want to retain him. He scored only three goals but faced the prospect of being stuck in Spain until Palace came in for him.

Agent doubts if Fulham player can make 'any difference' for Cottagers

Fulham completed the signing of Havard Nordtveit as the 28-year-old joined the Premier League on a loan deal from Hoffenheim.

The Norway international can play as a defensive midfielder or in the heart of the back four.

He's made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit this season, with two separate injuries forcing him to spend away from the pitch.

This season, the Cottagers have conceded 53 league goals in the league and have the worst defensive record in the Premier League.

Football agent Stig Lillejord is of the belief the versatile player will hardly make any difference to Claudio Ranieri's side.

"I don't think Nordtveit will make any difference at Fulham at all," Lillejord told Norway's TV2.

Lillejord is not the player's agent as Nordtveit is represented by Jim Solbakken, whose client lists includes Manchester United interim manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Nordtveit was at Arsenal between 2007 and 2011, while he spent one season at West Ham United. The last two spells have ended in a disappointment for the player and he will be hoping that things are different this time around at Craven Cottage.

Commentator Endre Olav Osnes is more positive: "It's a very exciting signing. They have it in place offensively, but need balance defensively."

Crystal Palace Are In False Position, Fulham Legend Warns

Fulham legend Tony Gale has warned the Cottagers that Crystal Palace are in a false position in the league table, ahead of the meeting between the sides on Saturday.

Claudio Ranieri's men will take the trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday as they aim to register back to back wins in the Premier League for the first time this season.

The Cottagers instigated a stellar second half comeback win over Brighton & Hove Albion last week and will be aiming to climb out of the relegation zone with another positive result against Palace.

However, the visitors are expected to have their work cut-out in south London on Saturday, if they are to come away with a commendable result against the Eagles.

And ahead of Fulham's derby meeting with Roy Hodgson's side, Gale feels that Crystal Palace are in a false position in the league table at the moment.

The Fulham legend claimed the Eagles are a top half side performance wise and reiterated that the league table does not do justice to their capabilities.

"Despite drawing at St Mary's, Palace played well and probably should have won", Gale wrote in his column for the club's official website.

"I would say, performance wise, they're a top half side, but they just lack a finisher.

"But all their football, their approach play, is good and – for me – they're in a false position."

Gale also admitted that Crystal Palace could opt for a different approach against Fulham, depending on how injuries bite.

"They've been fairly consistent with how they set up in matches but they might be forced into not only a change of personnel, but a change of formation for our game as well depending on who's available, because they haven't got the biggest of squads", he added.

Fulham will be boosted by the absence of Wilfried Zaha, who will serve a suspension after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession for Crystal Palace against Southampton last week.

Schürrle's Goal of the Month Nomination

André Schürrle's strike against Burnley has been nominated for the Premier League's Carling Goal of the Month for January.

The German opened the scoring with a stunning half volley from a Denis Odoi pass, which ultimately led to the Whites slipping to a 2-1 defeat last month.

The winger is up against Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Willian (Chelsea), Marcus Rashford x2 (Manchester United), James Ward-Prowse (Southampton), Callum Wilson (Bournemouth) and Diogo Jota (Wolves).

Jean Michäel Seri previously won the accolade in August for his effort in our home win against the same opponents.

Similarly, Schürrle was nominated for the same award back in October for his equally impressive goal against Cardiff City.

Aleks: The War Continues

For Aleksandar Mitrović, attentions immediately turned from celebration to preparation this week, ahead of "another 90 minutes of war" at Selhurst Park.

The win over Brighton & Hove Albion shortened the gap between Fulham and safety, but Mitrović says there was no time to dwell with another quickfire fixture on the horizon on Saturday.

"We can be confident but the game is gone now," he told fulhamfc.com. "We enjoyed it but straight away we had to recover and prepare for the next game.

"This match was good, it was an unbelievable night, but it's now behind us and now we fully focus on Crystal Palace.

"That's going to be a really tough game, like Brighton was, and we need to be prepared for another battle, another 90 minutes of war, another final, and hopefully we will get three more points.

"[Brighton] was a big step for us, we now have one final less, we have 14 more, with our next big derby on Saturday away at Palace – a good team, a good opponent, so we will see and hopefully we will continue like this."

The money behind Markovic's Fulham deal

Liverpool will 'receive' £1.7m in 'fees and wages' from Fulham for Lazar Markovic, according to BBC Merseyside.

The Serbian winger, somehow still only 24, transferred to the Cottagers last night – joining Ryan Babel as a former Red on the club's books.

We understand that the money 'received' also accounts for the fact we no longer have to pay Markovic's wages, however, so the actual money coming into the club from Fulham for his services is minimal.

Still, it's just good to have him off the books.

Jurgen Klopp joined Liverpool in October 2015 and has not once selected Markovic on his bench.

We think that sums up what the manager thinks of the attacker once rated as one of Europe's most talented.

Markovic may now face Liverpool in March, when Fulham host us at Craven Cottage.

There's a possibility that he and Babel may be on each of Claudio Ranieri's flanks!

In a parallel universe somewhere, those two would still be doing the business at Anfield – but certainly not in this one...

Palace and Fulham Fans Unite for Mental Health Awareness

A group of Palace fans will join their counterparts from Fulham on an away day march from Craven Cottage to Selhurst Park to raise awareness and profile of mental health and male suicide.

A bit of healthy competition sees Palace fans vying to turn Fulham red and blue prior to the match between the two sides on Saturday 2 February, but the opportunity to raise visibility and encourage people to talk and seek help are the main aims of the event.

Two groups of rival fans coming together on a match day to spread awareness through action and speaking about their own experiences is a powerful message, one that fans hope will be a catalyst for inspiring change and encouraging communication. The fans, who will be joined by Foundation CEO Mike Summers, have planned this event to raise awareness, instead of money, and are encouraging more people to join in to get as much support as possible.

Statistics* show that one in four people in the UK suffer from mental health issues, and 84 men take their own life every week, making suicide the country's single biggest killer of men under 45. Statistics like these show how crucial it is for awareness events such as this to become more common in our communities.

Paul Price, a Palace fan who's helped to organise the walk said:

"Mental Health affects many people directly but also their families and friends too. Mental health is also a key contributor to male suicide so the joint fan walk is aiming to send out a message to encourage people to open up, to talk and to understand that they are not alone.

"Help is out there in many places and in many forms but men typically bottle things up and take on all the pressure which can lead to terrible circumstances.

"From the personal experience of both organisers who have opened up and sought help, we believe that talking is the most powerful tool available and the starting point to recovery or saving a life."

The walk is taking place on Saturday 2 February, with fans walking the 10.5 miles from Craven Cottage to Selhurst Park. It should take roughly three hours and will be completed at a 'walk and talk' pace! To get involved or to find out more, contact Lee Adams (@Matchwornshirt1) or Paul Price (@HC15OnTour) on Twitter.

Antonio Valencia 'rejected moves to Fulham, Newcastle United'

Antonio Valencia reportedly turned down the chance to leave Manchester United for one of Fulham or Newcastle United on deadline day.

The 33-year-old has spent the past decade at Old Trafford but is nearing the end of his latest contract, which does not look like being extended by a further 12 months.

Premier League pair Fulham and Newcastle had both been tracking Valencia but, according to The Sun, the winger-cum-defender rejected approaches from both clubs.

United were supposedly happy for Ecuador international to move on as he has barely featured under interim boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, only being used in the 2-0 win over Newcastle on January 2.

Valencia, a £16m signing from Wigan Athletic in 2009, is now expected to quit United and become a free agent in the summer.

Inside Selhurst Park

Crystal Palace fan Lauren Roffey discusses Michy Batshuayi's arrival, Wilfried Zaha's absence, and what we can expect at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

How would you rate Palace's season so far?

Disappointing. We finished last season strongly and came away thinking that this season we would finally push on, but here we are in a relegation scrap. I think we have enough to stay up, but it's frustrating to be looking at the league table and sweating yet again.
Roy Hodgson holds legendary status at Fulham – how's he thought of in SE25?

At the end of last season, we would have agreed with you. However, football fans are a fickle lot and Roy has recently come under a bit of pressure. Before Christmas we went on a bad run which included a shambolic defeat at Brighton; this in itself is enough to put any manager in the firing line. A shock win at Man City came just at the right time for Roy. My personal feeling is that Roy is doing a solid job overall.
Who have been your standout performers so far?

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, our young full-back. I remember fearing the worst when Joel Ward got injured and AWB was thrown into the starting XI against Spurs, but he has been fantastic. He's only 20 but has adjusted to first team football remarkably. Andros Townsend is another who rarely lets us down and pops up with some fantastic goals.

How big a loss will Wilfried Zaha be through suspension?

Zaha will be a massive loss. He's our talisman and, even though his form has dipped a little lately, he has so much talent and ability. Unfortunately, he also has a temper. I share his frustrations where fouls are concerned - he's routinely kicked to pieces and referees don't always respond accordingly. But the behaviour that got him banned for tomorrow let himself and his teammates down.
What are your thoughts on the arrival of Michy Batshuayi?

We wanted to sign Batshuayi when Big Sam was manager, I believe, and I'm really pleased he's made the move now. We need more options up front and he's clearly a talented player. I'm sure he'll feel he has a point to prove given his move to Chelsea and subsequent loan spells haven't really worked out. I hope he can hit the ground running as we are desperate for goals, especially at home. In fact, I've almost forgotten what it's like to celebrate one.
Where do you think you can end up this season?

Mid-table. We're typically a second half of the season team, so I hope and expect we can pull further away from the relegation zone and the 'squeaky bum time' can lessen a bit.

How does Hodgson have you set up these days?

Roy sets the team up defensively and is largely successful in doing so - the pairing of Sakho and Tomkins at the back is strong. With Zaha and Townsend regulars in the team, however, we do create a lot of chances going forward. If only we had a decent striker to finish them – hopefully Batshuayi can be just that.
Have you seen much of Fulham at all?

Not a lot I'm afraid. I only watch Match of the Day when we win, so I haven't seen it much this season! I did see the defeat against Spurs on TV, and I was gutted for you lot. It's just such a horrible way to lose.
Any Fulham players you think could cause you problems?

Absolutely – Mitrović is obviously a good player and Sessegnon could cause problems with his pace.
Where's a good spot for away fans to get a pre-match drink?

As much as I'm fond of our stadium, it's not a good area for drinking in. The options are even more limited for away fans these days. I would suggest having a drink at Boxpark by East Croydon station and then making the short journey (by train) to the ground.

What sort of match are you anticipating?

Both teams will be desperate to get more points on the board so I'm expecting a tight, scrappy game. I look forward to hopefully watching a good battle on the wing between Sessegnon and Wan-Bissaka!
What score prediction are you going for?

1-1. We don't score many at home, and as mentioned before, I think the game will be tight.

'Confirming relegation': West Ham fans mock Fulham over Havard Nordtveit deal

Former West Ham United flop Havard Nordtveit sealed a shock return to the Premier League with Fulham on transfer deadline day.

Fulham's decision to offer Havard Nordtveit a second spell in the Premier League has left West Ham United fans rather baffled.

The Norwegian international moved to Craven Cottage on loan from Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim for the rest of the season on transfer deadline day and he will be tasked with shoring up a defence which is statistically the worst in the Premier League.

Nordtveit can play at centre-half, at full-back or even in defensive midfield. So, on paper, he could be a sensible addition.

Although West Ham fans have been quick to remind their London rivals just how disappointing the Norway international was during his one and only season at the London Stadium in 2016/17.

Nordtveit arrived at West Ham on a free transfer and supporters still felt they had been ripped off. The one-time Arsenal youngster was a huge disappointment in his 11 Premier League starts and few were too concerned when he bid farewell after just 12 months.

So it is fair to say that Fulham will be hoping that he does rather better upon his return to London.

Palace midfielder ruled out of Fulham test as Roy Hodgson gives updates on Tomkins and Batshuayi

The latest injury news ahead of Crystal Palace's game against Fulham tomorrow

Crystal Palace will be without Cheikhou Kouyate for the visit of Fulham tomorrow (Saturday), Roy Hodgson has confirmed.

The former West Ham midfielder went off with an ankle injury in the 1-1 draw at Southampton in midweek, and is now set to miss the game against Fulham.

Palace boss Hodgson says he hopes it is not a serious problem, but that it would rule the Senegalese midfielder out of the game at Selhurst Park.

"We've got a couple of players who we need to test tomorrow morning," he said.

"It's not looking that bad, but one player who will miss tomorrow is Cheikhou Kouyate because he twisted his ankle during the first half [against Southampton], but carried on for the second half.

"We're hoping it won't be that serious, but it will keep him out tomorrow."

Palace will also be without Wilfried Zaha, who is suspended for the game after being sent off at Southampton, but Hodgson says he otherwise has close to a full squad to choose from for the game.

That includes a possible debut for deadline day signing Michy Batshuayi , who is due to meet with Hodgson this afternoon (Friday) after flying in to the country.

"I think so," he said when asked if Batshuayi should be fit to play.

"I will see him this afternoon. I'll wait here to meet him and speak with him, he was fit enough for Valencia so there's no reason not to play for us.

"But I need to speak to him to find out how he feels and make a decision."

Hodgson also confirmed that Palace will make a late decision over the availability of defender James Tomkins who was substituted on Wednesday night with a suspected hamstring problem.

"James Tomkins trained this morning," Hodgson said.

"We don't think there will be any problems there, the training was quite light though so we need to check him tomorrow."
