Statistically that is true, but do you really believe we are capable of getting another 8 or 9 points?

We are down. End of.

With 13 games left and 39 points, the highest position we can obtain is joint runners up.

Based on the fact we are awful away from home and we've got to play United, Liverpool, Chelsea and City at Home, I'd say we will be relegated before we have any "winnable" games against - Everton, Cardiff and Newcastle.
Haven't we lost the most points from winning positions this year? Criminal that we can get ourselves in that position and throw it away!

I read a tweet (I think it was from MJG) that to stay up we need to hit the form of a top 7 club for the rest of the season...

We did it before. 17 points in our last 10 games, the great escape 2008.  We've got three games extra to get 20 and we can beat United, coz we've done that before too.

We had a stable, highly motivated and willing team then. We had a manager and his assistant who had a thorough understanding of the player's strengths and weaknesses, who knew how to get the best out of them. Nothing suggests we have any of those attributes this time.
