DRUBBING AWAITS? Fulham vs Liverpool: Remembering the time when the Reds demolished the Cottagers 10-0

Jurgen Klopp's men travel to Craven Cottage in the Premier League on Sunday and the Fulham faithful will be hoping there won't be a repeat of a League Cup tie in 1986, in which Liverpool scored ten goals!

Liverpool have the chance to regain top spot in the Premier League when they face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday – a game you can listen to live on talkSPORT – kick-off 2:15pm.

The Reds sit a point behind Manchester City in the table but can finish the weekend at the summit as the Citizens had FA Cup duties to attend to on Saturday evening.

While Liverpool are going for their first ever Premier League title, Fulham are fighting to preserve their status in the English top flight.

They have leaked goals all season, conceding 68 in the league – more than any other team in the division – and they next face one of Europe's best attacking teams in Liverpool.

However, it's not just this season's woes that should worry the Fulham faithful as the west London club have been on the end of some pretty embarrassing drubbings against the Merseyside's.

The Reds even managed to hit double figures against the Cottagers in a League Cup tie at Anfield in September 1986.

Four goals from Steve McMahon, an Ian Rush brace and goals from John Wark, Ronnie Whelan, Steve Nicol and an own goal completed the 10-0 rout and the Reds, who were in their golden age at the time, didn't even win a trophy that season.

It should be noted that Fulham were in the old Third Division in the 1986/87 campaign so a loss by ten goals does not appear as bad first thought.

Fulham fans will be hoping there's no repeat performance on Sunday though!

Danny Murphy: Why Liverpool fans are wrong about neutrals favouring Man City

Liverpool vs Man City

Liverpool have the chance to move above Man City in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Reds will need to beat Fulham at Craven Cottage to achieve that.

If that happens, Liverpool will open up a two point gap on the Sky Blues.

However Man City will have a game in hand over Jurgen Klopp's men after Sunday's fixture.

Danny Murphy: Why Liverpool fans are wrong

In his weekly column in the Mail on Sunday, Danny Murphy tells Liverpool fans that many of them have a wrong perception of the wider football community.

Murphy attempts to answer the following question: would neutrals prefer Man City or Liverpool to win the league?

Of course, many fans may answer that they really couldn't care if their club isn't in the title race.

Yet Murphy is of the opinion that Liverpool fans who believe the world is against them are mislead:

Many of their fans will feel the world wants them to lose out again, and that those neutrals prefer Manchester City.

I can understand why they would think like that — but I don't agree. There is a lot more goodwill towards Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool up and down the country than they realise.

Support among neutrals will be split between City and Liverpool because both teams play an exciting, entertaining, positive brand of football. Either would be popular champions.
