Opinion: Tottenham won't sign Englishman despite cut-price fee, the reasons are obvious

According to the Mirror, Tottenham are interested in Ryan Sessegnon and could make a move for the Fulham midfielder this summer. Sessegnon has been linked with Spurs for some time and could be signed for a cut-price fee after Fulham's relegation was recently confirmed.

However, given Sessegnon had a £50m asking price before the Cottagers went down, how much money would the Lilywhites really save?

The 18-year-old made 33 appearances in all competitions for the Cottagers this season, scoring and creating eight goals. He was on the winning side only five times (27% ratio) and is part of a Fulham side that have conceded 76 goals in the Premier League.

Tottenham may be interested in the teenager, but where would he play? Sessegnon is not a left-back, he's more of a winger now and could find himself behind Christian Eriksen, Heung-min Son, Lucas Moura and Erik Lamela in the pecking order.

Given all the competition for places, why would Tottenham pay so much money to sign him? The rumours will be persistent over the summer, but it's hard to see the Lilywhites making a move unless an existing player is sold.

Manchester United, Spurs target Ryan Sessegnon to see out Fulham contract?

Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon is reportedly considering the possibility of remaining at Craven Cottage.

The 18-year-old has contributed two goals and six assists during his debut Premier League campaign, but Fulham's relegation to the Championship has left the West Londoners considering a sale.

Sessegnon has just over a year remaining on his contract, and that has allegedly resulted in Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur showing an interest in the teenager.

However, according to The Sun, Sessegnon may decide to stay at the club for another 12 months before leaving on a free transfer in 2020.

The report adds that Borussia Dortmund are monitoring the situation, with the Bundesliga side said to be prepared to secure a deal for the prospect on a pre-contract agreement in January.

Tottenham Hotspur one of five clubs in Aleksandar Mitrovic hunt?

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly emerged as one of five clubs who hold an interest in Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Cottagers paid out £22m to sign Mitrovic from Newcastle United last summer, but the club's relegation will result in offers being made for the 24-year-old.

According to Sportski Zurnal, Spurs are considering whether to make an approach for the player as they look for experienced backup for Harry Kane.

However, Mitrovic has contributed 10 goals and two assists from 32 starts in the Premier League this season, and the report suggests that each of Everton, Leicester City and West Ham United are prepared to make him first choice at their respective clubs.

Guangzhou Evergrande are also said to be monitoring the situation, with the Chinese Super League outfit able to offer Mitrovic a lucrative deal to move to Asia.

Club devise plan to beat Man United & Liverpool to £50m star for just £500k transfer fee

Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon could be the next young English talent on his way to the Bundesliga as Borussia Dortmund are the latest club linked with a transfer.

Bleacher Report recently linked the talented 18-year-old with both Manchester United and Liverpool ahead of the summer, but it may be that he'll be on his way to  Germany instead.

Having enjoyed success with the signing of Jadon Sancho from Manchester City a couple of years ago, it's not too surprising Dortmund want to try a similar approach with another of this country's rising stars.

According to the Sun, BVB plan to try and land Sessegnon next season in a pre-contract deal in January 2020, when he can leave for a compensation fee of just £500,000.

This is much less than Fulham's reported £50m asking price as noted by the Sun, as well as in another recent report from the Mirror.

If Dortmund can pull this off it would be absolutely superb business by a club showing themselves to be shrewd operators in the transfer market.

The Bundesliga giants would no doubt be a tempting destination for Sessegnon despite rumoured Premier League interest, with Sancho and others showing that a move abroad can be ideal for English youngsters to get more playing time and develop early on in their careers.

Man Utd, Liverpool could land £50m-rated England starlet for free

Ryan Sessegnon could reportedly let his contract at Fulham run down, allowing interested clubs to snatch him up on a free transfer.

We revealed in February that Spurs are tracking both Ryan and his brother Steven Sessegnon, and hoped to conclude a double deal this summer.

Multiple clubs were reportedly been tracking Ryan last summer, who is considered one of the brightest English prospects, but Fulham's promotion to the Premier League meant they put a move on hold.

The England U21 star is apparently valued at around £50million, and has thus far stalled on signing a new deal at Craven Cottage giving suitors a boost.

It was then claimed earlier in the week that Manchester United and Liverpool have both compiled 'detailed scouting reports' on Sessegnon ahead of a potential swoop.

Now, according to The Sun, Sessegnon could possibly choose to run down the final 12 months of his deal at Craven Cottage, which would allow him to leave for free.

Borussia Dortmund are monitoring the situation, the report claims, and the fact that foreign sides can sign players on pre-contracts in the January before their deal expires could give the Bundesliga giants a boost.

Paul Merson believes Tottenham Hotspur target Ryan Sessegnon hasn't shown 'anything' in the Premier League this season

Tottenham Hotspur target Ryan Sessegnon could part ways with his parent club Fulham in the summer.

Paul Merson has expressed his 'worry' about how Tottenham Hotspur target Ryan Sessegnon has performed for Fulham this season following their instant relegation to the Championship.

The Soccer Saturday pundit claimed that he'd be 'surprised' if someone paid £40 million for the 18-year-old, who has struggled to prove his worth since being promoted with the London club.

The Mirror recently claimed that Spurs could land the highly-rated youngster for a cut-price fee after his side's relegation was confirmed this week.

Speaking to Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports News (06/04/2019 at 2:40 pm), Merson spoke honestly about Sessegnon and the reported fee's that are being touted around for a player who he believes looks 'lost'.

"I'd be surprised [if someone paid £40m for Sessegnon]," Merson told Soccer Saturday. "I think last season, you would have got £40 million for him. Not playing in the Premier League. Potential. Very good in the Championship.

"He is has come up and if I am being honest, he has looked like he doesn't feel like he should be there. He looked a bit lost sometimes. And I know he's only 18 and he's a kid, but I don't think he has shown anything all season.

"It's not like you can put together a montage of games together and say 'this is what he's done' and you're like fair enough. I don't think you'll be able to put it together. That'll be a worry. I think people will wait for another year."

For a number of seasons now, Sessegnon was making a name for himself in the second tier of English football, with the left-back turned winger proving his worth in the attacking third.

After Fulham lost the play-off semi-final two seasons ago, Sessegnon stuck with his boyhood club and helped them earn promotion to the Premier League in the summer.

But their return to the promised land has ended in complete and utter disaster because after having three managers in charge it has gone horribly wrong once again for the club.

How Fulham are inspiring young people in London

Ahead of Monday's PL Kicks Cup, participants from the Fulham Foundation explain what the programme is all about

Fulham FC Foundation broke new ground when in 2006 they were one of four clubs to pilot the Premier League Kicks programme.

Thirteen years later, their scheme is still thriving, with the club inspiring young people in places that need it most across south-west London.

Fulham are competing in the annual PL Kicks Cup event in Warwick on Monday.

Ahead of the celebration tournament, they visited PL Kicks sessions at Roupell Park and Elm Green in Lambeth, to discover how the scheme has made an impact on the young people.

"I come down here to train, to be the best I can be," says participant Jermaine.

"Before, I was all right with football but I felt I could do better. They've pushed me to my limits."

Fulham Foundation have engaged more than 8,500 young people since 2006 in coaching sessions each week across south-west London.

But by giving young people a chance to come together to play, the impact of the programme goes far wider than just on the football pitch.

"We try to engage as many young people as we can and give them something to do," says Fulham Foundation coach, Hussein Mohammed.

"We're not just coaching football, we always want to know what's going on in the kids' lives, is there anything we can help them with, is there anything we can give them?"

Premier League Kicks is working across England and Wales to help young people develop their potential. It is now delivered by 69 PL, Football League and National League clubs at more than 1100 different venues.

Heading for Germany? Tottenham's Ryan Sessegnon hopes suffer a blow

According to The Sun, Ryan Sessegnon is ready to run down his contract with Fulham before joining Borussia Dortmund at the end of the 2019-2020 campaign.

What's the word, then?

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be strongly linked with a swoop for Sessegnon, who starred for Fulham during their 2017-18 Championship campaign, and The Daily Mail have even described him as a key target for the north London club.

The England Under-21 international has not shown the same form in the Premier League, but has been able to gain some valuable experience of top-flight football.

At the age of 18, Sessegnon has scored 25 goals in 115 appearances for Fulham, who have already been relegated back to the Championship.

It had been thought that the teenager would leave Craven Cottage this summer, with Tottenham potentially completing a deal for the left-sided player.

However, according to The Sun, Sessegnon is ready to see out his Fulham contract – which expires in 2020 – before moving to Dortmund on a free transfer.

How will this one end?

Jadon Sancho is just one example of a young English player who has left the Premier League behind to star in Germany.

Sessegnon is certainly a talent, but is unlikely to receive too much first-team football for Tottenham next season if he makes the move to Mauricio Pochettino's side.

Dortmund, on the other hand, have handed Sancho a starring role since his arrival and could be ready to offer Sessegnon similar opportunities.

Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic heading to China in £50m deal?

Fulham are reportedly set to lose striker Aleksandar Mitrovic to Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande following their relegation from the Premier League.

The Cottagers' demotion after just one season back in the big time was confirmed earlier this week with a 4-1 defeat at Watford.

A number of players are expected to be moved on by Fulham to help balance the books, but Mitrovic is one of those they would ideally keep hold of.

Having hit double figures in the Premier League this season, though, the Serbia international has attracted interest from a handful of clubs, Evergrande supposedly among them.

According to The Express, Fabio Cannavaro's side lead the race to sign the 24-year-old and they are willing to offer him wages of £300,000 a week.

Evergrande, runners-up in last season's Chinese Super League, will pay Fulham £50m - double the amount they handed over to Newcastle United to sign him last summer.

Sheffield Wednesday may now regret snubbing reported £12m Fulham bid for Fernando Forestieri

Sheffield Wednesday's Fernando Forestieri was once linked with a big-money move to Fulham.

According to a report in The Sun on Sunday (April 7; page 61), Sheffield Wednesday are looking to balance the books and the two players who could be sold this summer are Lucas Joao and Fernando Forestieri.

It is said the Owls are looking at around £8 million each for the pair, but such a figure seems inflated with the duo struggling to break in to the first-team while Forestieri's best days could be behind him.

Wednesday, now under the guidance of manager Steve Bruce, all-but saw their slim playoff hopes disappear on Saturday as they succumbed to a 3-1 home defeat to fellow top-six rivals Aston Villa.

Years of heavy spending now leaves the club looking to make cut-backs, and with hindsight they must look back on one or two decisions along the way with great regret.

Signing Forestieri from Watford back in 2015 for a reported £3.5 million was a great deal. However, not cashing in on the now 29-year-old when the opportunity came by looks like a big mistake.

According to a report in The Sun in August 2017, Fulham launched a £12 million bid for the Argentine forward but the Cottagers were knocked back with the Owls reportedly holding out for more.

Fulham's reported interest came after Forestieri had scored 27 goals and grabbed 11 assists for Wednesday over two season, twice helping the club to the playoffs as they fell just short of promotion.

You can understand why Wednesday valued their most influential player at the time so highly, but what was to follow makes that decision now look like a poor and ill-advised one.

Forestieri has since gone on to make just 18 Championship starts over the past two years, suffering from a string of niggling injuries and an evident loss of form.

Wednesday will do well to fetch anywhere near the reported £8 million they seek for the player this summer with Forestieri entering the final 12 months of his contract and likely one of the club's highest earners.

The Craven Cottage Exodus Is Set To Begin With..............

With our Premier League fate now sealed and with Fulham Football Club having to contemplate life back in the Championship next season, it remains to be seen which of the current squad will still be with us come August.

Already, earlier this week, Click Here, we've covered how interest is growing in luring Ryan Sessegnon away from Craven Cottage, something which will be a sad day if it happens.

But, we're pretty sure that there will be an exodus as the club look to start rebuilding whilst also cutting costs when it comes to the wage bill.

One player who we don't expect to be around next August is Andre Schurrle, something the tabloid publication, the
Sun, has covered with it being inferred the German World Cup winner will see his loan spell ended a year early with the player returning to his parent club, Borussia Dortmund.

Schurrle, as far as I'm concerned, falls into that category of players that arrived in the summer but who failed to deliver.

Okay, Schurrle may have impressed on the odd brief occasion but the Premier League requires a high level of consistency, something Schurrle never demonstrated.

No doubt this is another piece of lazy journalism but If Sess did leave on a free then he would be hated but most fans at the club considering he is always kissing the badge and saying that FFC is his club!!

Bill2

With all this talk of Sess leaving on a free or £500,000 to a German club it makes you wonder if it is worth having an academy. It goes to show that the big clubs with all their champions league money and huge match day revenue don't give a toss for the small clubs who can only survive by developing players and then getting a fee and yes we are in that category.

If he ends up at Spurs like this I will never ever be cheering them on again, not that will really worry them.
