Messi is good, but he's at Barcelona. They've built the team and style of play around him. Ronaldo Mark 1 is the best player of my lifetime, without question. Mark 2 is the best in the world at the moment, purely because he's not been afraid to go to different leagues, and been, arguably the best player in each one.

Every team Ronaldo played for built their team around him too. This is precisely why Real Madrid are struggling so much at the moment, they used to just get it to Ronaldo and he'd do the rest. I imagine Barca would be in a similar predicament once Messi retires.
