Due to my sterling efforts at the end of last season (sitting in the Hammy End, munching a pie and trying not to moan too much about our Keystone Cops defence), SP granted me an extended holiday and so I am currently sitting in a Spanish desert and can jump in the nearby pool whenever I get a bit warm. However, as always, I am indebted to this message board for keeping me in touch with reality in a miserable world filled only with sunshine, tapas and cold beer.

Will it work? Will I be ready for the new season? I think I'm likely to be as ready as anyone we hurriedly sign in our traditional late window splurge and am also quietly confident of winning the most tanned person in the stand award at Oakwell next week....
