Man Utd must forget about signing this 19-year-old who once set the Championship on fire – Here's why

Manchester United opinion: United shouldn't sign Ryan Sessegnon

According to a report in the Daily Express, Ryan Sessegnon has been linked with a move to Manchester United. Sessegnon has also been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, which would be a better move for him and Tottenham Hotspur ideally because he'd be a bit of a luxury at United.

Sessegnon is still very young at 19 but he hasn't nailed down a position so far. He's been used at left-back, left wing-back and both wing positions. He hasn't shown too many signs that he's going play as a left-back, which is currently being taken up by Luke Shaw.

United need to look at an upgrade over Luke Shaw in the future as he's a good option for now but the fact that he's not anywhere close to a national call-up suggests that an upgrade might be needed soon and Sessegnon wouldn't be one.

United also have a bunch of options on the left-wing who can do a job. Not just players like Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Alexis Sanchez but also new signing Daniel James and academy graduates like Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be a fantastic guide for Sessegnon as United has a rich tradition of giving youngsters a chance and developing them into superstars. Solskjaer has already shown that he's ready to give youngsters a chance and the United academy and current first-team is already quite a young squad.

They need to add a few players with the right kind of experience to help these youngsters have the right personalities to bounce off and develop into better players. While United aren't expected to win the Premier League this season, they're always expected to at the very least make a step towards that before the league starts.

They also have other priorities in midfield, defence and in the right-wing to have a look at before they can consider buying someone like Sessegnon. In any other era, Sessegnon would be the kind of player that would be a great fit at United but United have more pressing issues.

Conclusion

With not much time left before the Premier League kicks off, Solskjaer will be hoping that he can get a few more signings over the line before the games against Chelsea and Wolves.

They've had a fantastic pre-season tour and will be hoping that they can take the positivity from the tour into the 2019/20 season.

Liverpool FC confirm signing of Harvey Elliott

Liverpool FC can confirm the signing of Harvey Elliott from Fulham.

The 16-year-old winger joins the club after making three senior appearances for the Cottagers last season.

Elliott became the youngest debutant in Premier League history when he featured against Wolverhampton Wanderers – aged 16 years and 30 days – in May.

The England youth international will now be part of the Liverpool squad for Sunday's friendly against Napoli in Edinburgh and the subsequent training camp in Evian.

Fulham expect Sessegnon to stay, says Parker

Scott Parker says he expects Ryan Sessegnon to stay at Fulham.

Tottenham are looking to agree a deal to sign the teenager, who has a year remaining on his contract at Craven Cottage.

But Whites boss Parker says he expects Sessegnon to contribute to Fulham's push for an immediate return to the Premier League after the player recovers from a hamstring injury.

Sessegnon, 19, limped off during England's Under-21 European Championships defeat to Romania last month and has not featured in Fulham's pre-season campaign.

"He's rehabbing back to a point where he can feature," said Parker, who started alongside Sessegnon when the Roehampton-born youngster made his Fulham debut aged 16. "We'll try everything we can [to keep him].

"We'll see what will happen from there but at this present time, with 10 days [of the transfer window] to go, he's a Fulham player and we fully expect him to rehab back from his injury and play a big part."

Harvey Elliott: 16-year-old joins Liverpool after Fulham exit
Teenager left Fulham in June after youth contract ended

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of 16-year-old winger Harvey Elliott.

Elliott, who left Fulham in June after his youth contract expired, holds the record as the youngest player to play in the Premier League, and has attracted interest from Barcelona, Real Madrid and RB Leipzig.

The England U17 midfielder will now be part of the Liverpool squad for Sunday's friendly against Napoli in Edinburgh and the subsequent training camp in Evian.

Sky Sports News reported in July that Elliott would sign for Liverpool after deciding not to extend his stay at Craven Cottage.

Elliott made his Fulham debut aged 15 in the Carabao Cup last September and became the youngest ever Premier League player in a 1-0 defeat against Wolves in May, when he was aged 16 years and 30 days.

Fulham boss Scott Parker, who gave Elliott his Premier League debut last season, described him as an "unbelievable talent".

Fulham expect Sessegnon to stay – Parker

Tottenham appear to have suffered a blow in their pursuit of Ryan Sessegnon, with Fulham seemingly confident he will stay with them.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to snap up the teenager as a replacement for Danny Rose, who has been tipped to move before next month's transfer deadline.

However, Fulham manager Scott Parker has said that he believes Sessegnon will still be at Craven Cottage after that August 8 deadline.

The player has just a year remaining on his contract and has been widely tipped to move to north London.

But Parker believes Sessegnon, who is recovering from a hamstring problem, will play a big part in Fulham's promotion challenge.

"He's rehabbing back to a point where he can feature," Parker told West London Sport.

"We'll try everything we can [to keep him]. We'll see what will happen from there but at this present time, with 10 days [of the transfer window] to go, he's a Fulham player and we fully expect him to rehab back from his injury and play a big part."

Sessegnon's injury forced him off during England's European Under-21 Championship game against Romania and he has not featured at all in Fulham's pre-season campaign.

Liverpool complete signing of record-breaking midfielder from Fulham

Fulham transfer news includes details of Harvey Elliott's departure

Liverpool have completed the signing of Harvey Elliott.

Confirmation of this deal came via the club's official website on Sunday morning and the teenager will be part of the squad to face Napoli in a pre-season friendly later today.

Furthermore, he will part of the first-team training camp In Evian.

Elliott is a 16-year-old winger who made history twice last season.

Firstly he became the Cottagers' youngest ever debutant when he appeared for the first team in the League Cup against Millwall on September 25, 2018 aged 15 years and 174 days.

He then became the youngest ever player to feature in the Premier League when he came off the bench against Wolves towards the end of last season aged 16 years and 30 days.

His second taste of top-flight football came on the final day of the 2018/2019 campaign - a 4-0 loss against Newcastle United.

The Mirror claimed earlier in the month that the youngster had been tracked by Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint Germain and RB Leipzig.

So it's certainly a huge deal that Liverpool have won the race for his signature.

The fee hasn't been revealed as of yet.

However, the Telegraph did reveal a few weeks ago that a significant compensation package will have to be agreed with Liverpool.

Elliott is set to become the latest success story to come out of the Fulham academy following in the footsteps of Patrick Roberts and now former teammate Ryan Sessegnon.

Liverpool transfer news: Harvey Elliott completes long-anticipated move from Fulham

The 16-year-old was tracked by a number of elite European clubs

Liverpool have completed the signing of 16-year-old winger Harvey Elliott from Fulham.

Elliott had been tracked by a number of Europe's elite clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid, PSG and RB Leipzig before deciding on the Champions League winners.

Fulham will be entitled to a substantial compensation package as part of the deal.

"I am so happy to be able to announce that I have signed for Liverpool," Elliott wrote on social media.

Fulham, Sheffield United and Stoke City In Hunt For Premier League Midfielder

Sheffield United and Stoke City are keen on landing Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter, though Fulham also hold an interest in the player, according to the Sun.

Bournemouth are expected to allow Arter to move on following the signing of Philip Billing from Huddersfield Town.

The 29-year-old Republic of Ireland international is not short of suitors, with Sheffield United and Stoke City interested, while Fulham are now looking to snap him up.

A move to the Blades would mean Arter being able to continue his career in the Premier League

However, Championship pair Fulham and Stoke could also make appealling pitches to Arter to convince him to drop down to the second tier.

Bournemouth signed the midfielder in 2010, but he spent last season out on loan at Cardiff City.

Fulham could hope to use a personal connection to sign Arter, with Cottagers boss Scott Parker married to the midfielder's sister and enjoying a close friendship with the Cherries star.

Arter has won promotion from the Championship before, helping Bournemouth book a spot in the Premier League in the 2014/15 campaign.

Liverpool sign 16-year-old Harvey Elliott from Fulham

Liverpool have completed the signing of teenage winger Harvey Elliott from Fulham, the Premier League club announced on Sunday.

Elliott, who left Craven Cottage after his youth contract expired in June, became the youngest player to feature in the Premier League when he appeared for relegated Fulham against Wolverhampton Wanderers aged 16 years and 30 days in May.

The England under-17 midfielder was linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid and RB Leipzig by the British media, but earlier this month, Telegraph Sport revealed that Elliott was set to join Liverpool after turning down a number of other offers.

"To have joined the club that I supported as a boy is a dream come true for me and all of my family and it's an incredible feeling to now officially be able to call myself a Red!" the 16-year-old Elliott wrote on Instagram.

"I can't wait to get started and it will be a truly special feeling to pull the famous red jersey on. I'll work as hard as I possibly can for the club and I feel Anfield is the perfect place for me to develop and progress as a player."

Elliott will now be part of the Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool squad for Sunday's friendly against Napoli in Edinburgh and the subsequent training camp in Evian.

Elliott becomes Liverpool's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of 17-year-old Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle.

Liverpool are therefore yet to make a senior addition to his squad following an impressive 2018/19 campaign in which Liverpool won the Champions League and finished second in the Premier League on 97 points.

Klopp this week said Liverpool cannot afford to play "fantasy football" in the transfer market and he would prefer to wait to sign players that will improve the first team than squander cash on secondary targets.

"This year is not the end of Liverpool FC," said Klopp. "Next year there will be another transfer window. This team is really good and we have invested a lot in it. Now we have to work with that."

Harvey Elliott Signs for Liverpool FC

Harvey Elliott has signed for Liverpool, with the 16-year-old departing from Fulham. The midfielder has much to learn but is the youngest player to grace the Premier League.

Harvey Elliott Transfers to Liverpool
Who is This Young Prodigy?
The young player was in high demand this summer. Jake Polden of The Mirror claims that he attracted both Real Madrid and Barcelona. Fulham attempted to keep the player at the club with a scholarship. Elliott turned this down to instead play for his dream club.

Elliott is an attacking midfielder, playing out wide and also as an inside forward. At such a young age he could mould into any kind of position around this area, though. He cannot sign a professional deal with Liverpool yet since he is too young. However, he will sign a scholarship deal with his new club that will enable this in a years time. He then will be able to be carefully looked after by the club staff, who have a serious young talent on their hands.

Liverpool Building
After winning the Champions League from two successive attempts, Liverpool are on a high. They have won the most coveted trophy in Europe. And now they will want to consolidate this progress.

Other than 17-year-old Sepp van den Berg, Liverpool have been quiet in acquiring players this summer. Part of this is due to the brilliant squad they have. There is still time to add to it, as they should do, with rivals rebuilding their squads. However, it is important for clubs to invest in youngsters who will bring them future glories.

Thus, signings like Harvey Elliott may not make headlines in terms of massive pricetags and promised goal returns. But, instead, Elliott is an important investment not only in young English talent but in securing Liverpool's foundations for future attempts at domestic and European glory.

PR Disaster For Fulham Great Win For Hammers

Yesterday's friendly 1-0 victory against Fulham played at Craven Cottage should have been a 'football festival of fun', indeed the West Ham players will be happy with their performances and by how many Hammers fans turned out to see their team. The balmy atmosphere of early on in the week had dissipated and was replaced with good old British thunderstorms and the occasional torrential downpour, never the less there were officially just over 2,500 Hammers fans in attendance, unofficially the figure was more like 4,000 given the fact that tickets were available on the door.

What could possibly go wrong? Two London teams with similar traditions and back ground, enjoying a pleasant pre-season game in convivial surroundings with relatively like minded souls. Someone somewhere underestimated the amount of interest there would be in the match, the stewarding was woeful mainly because there weren't enough stewards and those that were available looked as if they were totally new to the job. It did give visitors a sort of London Stadium deja vu from the Hammers first season where the lack of training of match day staff was similarly inept.

Fulham had taken the decision not to stream the game, as is their right, apparently they were worried about ticket sales for the game and wanted to ensure a full ground, they needn't have worried. As Fulham now play in the 2nd tier, namely the EFL, foreign broadcasters showed little or no desire to cover the match and it was too late in the day to do a rush installation of the hardware to broadcast by West Ham.

While Fulham's stance regarding the broadcasting of the match is understandable, the heavy handed way in which stewards tried to stop people using their mobile phones to cover parts of the game was totally unacceptable, as was some of the language used by fans who were sanctioned by the stewards. This left a very negative taste of what should have been a very enjoyable day out, why on earth prevent people from showing the game via their phones to people who could not be there in person? There was no financial gain in banning the use of phones because there were no broadcasters!

To make matters worse several, West Ham fans were 'evicted' by over zealous staff who were probably reacting to some rather nasty and unacceptable racial abuse. Shame on those fans, no matter how upset they were they had no right to overstep the mark, their actions besmirch the good name of Hammers travelling fans.

As a foot note, the recently opened Taco Bell Mexican take away just of the Fulham Road is inundated on match days when Chelsea play, and to a lesser extent when Fulham play. The staff who work there told us "The Chelsea fans are like animals, they throw their rubbish on the floor and don't give a damn, the Fulham fans are more considerate, but the best fans they have had there were West Ham fans, apparently Hammers fans were the only ones who asked where the bins were to put their rubbish in! - Ed

Scott Parker's comments which could hand Tottenham & Mauricio Pochettino a massive transfer blow

The England u21 international has been linked with a move to Tottenham

Fulham boss Scott Parker has delivered an update on Ryan Sessegnon's future.

Football.london understands Tottenham Hotspur are looking to tie up a deal for the teenager before the end of the month.

Whilst there is interest from Manchester United, Liverpool and PSG in Sessegnon, the Lilywhites have the advantage due to the player being keen on working under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino.

It seems like the perfect time for Sessegnon to move on.

He has just a year left on his first professional deal at Craven Cottage, therefore the £50m valuation from last summer is likely to have dropped significantly.

Furthermore, it's unlikely that he will sign a new deal with the Cottagers.

However, Parker has suggested that the club are willing to risk the threat of losing Sessegnon for a even lower price in the January transfer window or for free next summer.

"He's rehabbing back to a point where he can feature," Parker said, as per West London Sport . "We'll try everything we can [to keep him].

"We'll see what will happen from there but at this present time, with 10 days [of the transfer window] to go, he's a Fulham player and we fully expect him to rehab back from his injury and play a big part."

Meanwhile, Darren Bent believes Sessegnon would thrive at Spurs and the former striker has identified where he should play.

"I like Ryan, I saw him a lot last year and the year before in the Championship," Bent told Football Insider. "He's very, very attacking.

"For me he's better suited to the wing-back role rather than the left-back role.

"I thought he did reasonably well for Fulham last season considering what happened to the club, with them going down. I thought he was one of their best players.

"For me, it would go along the lines of what Spurs like to do in signing young, English talent.

"For a left-back there is probably none better in this country than Ryan Sessegnon so it does make sense."

Liverpool completed the signing of 16-year-old winger Harvey Elliott from Fulham and then Jürgen Klopp put him on with 15 minutes to go of their 3-0 friendly defeat against Napoli.

Lorenzo Insigne, Arkadiusz Milik and Amin Younes scored the goals for the Serie A side in front of a sell-out 65,442 crowd in Edinburgh to leave Jürgen Klopp in no doubt work needs to be done.

"The start and finish were good, but in between we conceded simple goals," said Klopp. "We need to do better. I don't want to look for an excuse – and Napoli started pre-season at the same time as us – but their season starts three weeks after us so they can train nice and smoothly, but we have to work hard in four weeks and sometimes you have heavy legs in games like this as a result."

Elliott was linked with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Leipzig, but confirmed his move to Liverpool earlier on Sunday and impressed Klopp on his first appearance for his new side.

"That's why he's here," said the Liverpool manager. "Look, I could say so many positive things about the boy because we signed him. He came here, he decided for us, he could have gone pretty much everywhere but he wanted to be part of Liverpool. He already has a few records because of his talent. Now he's here, let's work with him. He needs game time and we will see where he gets that, but he's obviously a fine, fine footballer and that's the reason why we were really interested."

Elliott, who left Craven Cottage after his youth contract expired in June, became the youngest player to feature in the Premier League when he appeared for relegated Fulham against Wolves aged 16 years and 30 days in May. He had already made his Fulham debut in the 3-1 League Cup win over Millwall in September aged 15.

"To have joined the club that I supported as a boy is a dream come true for me and all of my family and it's an incredible feeling to now officially be able to call myself a Red!" the 16-year-old wrote on Instagram.

"I can't wait to get started and it will be a truly special feeling to pull the famous red jersey on. I'll work as hard as I possibly can for the club and I feel Anfield is the perfect place for me to develop and progress as a player."

Elliott will now be part of Klopp's Liverpool squad for the training camp in Evian.

Stan Collymore's verdict on Leeds United's promotion chances as he talks up Fulham threat

The new season kicks off this week

We are just five days away from the new Championship season as Leeds United and their promotion rivals get ready for ten months of hard graft in English football's second tier.

The Whites are able to call again on the services of Marcelo Bielsa after the Argentine quickly signed up for a second season at Elland Road, hell bent on going one better than last year, when he guided his side to a third place finish and subsequent play-off defeat.

This continuity and acquisitions such as the club's headline summer signing Helder Costa mean that Leeds will start the season as the bookies' favourites.

Ahead of Middlesbrough's trip to Luton Town on Friday night which will kick off the new campaign, plenty of pundits have been offering their verdict on how the season will pan out.

Stan Collymore is never short of an opinion, often sharing his Leeds United takes in the past, but Whites fans will be encouraged by his pre-season precitions.

"Fulham and Leeds are my tips for gaining automatic promotion to Prem from the Championship this season," he writes in his Sunday People column this week.

"I pick Fulham because of their be squad and Leeds because Marcelo Bielsa will make sure they bounce back from the disappointment they faced the end of the last campaign.

"Then, I reckon it will be one of Cardiff, Huddersfield, Nottingham Forest, Stoke or Middlesbrough via the play-offs."

Scott Parker's Fulham side have managed to hold onto the majority of their side that were relegated from the Premier League last season as well adding wingers Ivan Cavaleiro and Anthony Knockaert on loan from Wolves and Brighton respectively for the campaign.

Leeds kick off their effort to end their 15-year exile from the Premier League with a trip to Bristol City on Sunday.

Scott Parker "fully expects" Sessegnon to stay at Fulham

Scotty P. isn't doing his old club any favors as Spurs try and sign their left back of the future.

Ryan Sessegnon has been "close" to a move to Tottenham Hotspur for what feels like years now, and although there's less than two weeks left in the transfer window it doesn't appear as though the wheels have been greased at all. Speaking to West London Sport, former Spurs midfielder and current Fulham manager Scott Parker says that he "fully expects" Sessegnon to stay at the Championship club as they try and achieve promotion back to the Premier League this season.

Sessegnon is currently in rehabilitation for an injury he picked up in the European U21 Finals this summer but is close to a return.

"He's rehabbing back to a point where he can feature. We'll try everything we can [to keep him].

"We'll see what will happen from there but at this present time, with 10 days [of the transfer window] to go, he's a Fulham player and we fully expect him to rehab back from his injury and play a big part."

Scotty P's comments don't mean that a transfer won't still go through, only that he'd be quite content if the clock ran out while all parties were trying to come to an agreement. Sessegnon reportedly wants to come to Tottenham, but the details of the transfer are still in limbo even as reports over the past few weeks have repeatedly said a deal was near completion. It sounds as though this one could go down to the wire.

Tottenham dealt Ryan Sessegnon transfer blow as Fulham provide fitness update

The north Londoners have been heavily linked with a move for Fulham's talisman over the past couple of seasons

Tottenham have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Fulham youngster Ryan Sessegnon.

Cottagers boss Scott Parker provided the update with Tottenham heavily linked with a move for the 19-year-old.

According to Football.London , there has also been some interest from Manchester United , Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, but Spurs have a slight advantage as Sessegnon is thought to be in favour of working with Mauricio Pochettino.

It also looks to be a great time for the winger to move on, with one year left on his current contract with Fulham, and the west Londoners have likely reduced their £50million valuation they had last summer.

The former West Ham midfielder, Parker, has suggested that the club are willing to risk losing the talented Englishman for a low price in January or even for free next summer.

"He's rehabbing back to a point where he can feature," Parker said, when chatting to West London Sport .

"We'll try everything we can [to keep him].

"We'll see what will happen from there but at this present time, with 10 days [of the transfer window] to go, he's a Fulham player and we fully expect him to rehab back from his injury and play a big part."

On the other hand, former Spurs striker Darren Bent has every confidence that Sessegnon would be a hit at the club.

"For a left-back there is probably none better in this country than Ryan Sessegnon, so it does make sense."

Whether Sessegnon moves on this summer, January or next year currenly looks to be the hands of the Parker, who won't let him go easily.

A Look at Leeds' Main Challengers This Season: Fulham

Whilst we've all been busy disecting, discussing, arguing, screaming about, Leeds' pre-season, other clubs in the Championship have also been going about their own business, believe it or not. Let's see whats in store from them...

Fulham- Fulham had a yo-yo year last season. Having been promoted then immediately relegated back to the Championship, they will be strengthened by the generous package of parachute payments. Their summer acquisitions make them well-placed to do this once again. The London club have secured the services of Helder Costa's old mucker at Wolves, Ivan Cavaleiro. Ivan, too, was a fundamental player in the Wanderer's promotion.

The Cottagers have also brought in Anthony Knockaert, previously of Brighton.  Despite having played his last two seasons in the Prem, Knockaert is another who's already been and done a Promotion in his second season on the seaside. A season in which he won the Player of the Season award. Importantly, however, Fulham have somehow convinced Aleksandar Mitrovic to stay. A man who scores goals for fun (12 in 17 last time he played at this level), it is unfathomable why no Premier League club offered him a hand up the day Fulham got relegated.

Frankly though, Fulham's downfall last season was their defence. They conceded over 2 goals per game on average in the 18/19 season and once again it appears they've focused heavily on attacking recruitment. As a case study, one can look to the game that consigned them to relegation, the 4-1 defeat away at Watford. The second half collapse was a direct result of the Fulham defence's distinct lack of pressure and utterly calamtious defending. Time and time again, Watford were found themselves uncontested in space allowing them to run riot.

Certainly there's the argument that their defence may be better placed to cope at a lower level but this all requires adequate instruction. The young and fresh-faced, though inexperienced, Scott Parker has his work cut out to sort out the defensive woes and he showed little sign of being able to turn their fortunes around when he took control of the wheel last season.

This could ultimately be their downfall. The ingredients are all at Parker's disposal to cook a lavish meal that would take the Championship by storm, but alas he may need some help turning the oven on.

Opinion – What Tottenham should do about the Ryan Sessegnon situation

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt somewhat of a blow today over their potential transfer of Fulham youngster, Ryan Sessegnon.

The Mirror had previously reported recently that Spurs would secure the 19-year-old's signature, along with Giovani Lo Celso, this week for a combined fee of £80m. However, neither one of these deals materialised, or even look close for that matter.

Scott Parker, the Fulham manager and ex-Spurs fan favourite, has now come out and revealed that he fully expects the winger to stay and play a big part for the Cottagers.

Parker said (West London Sport): "He's rehabbing back to a point where he can feature. We'll try everything we can [to keep him].

"We'll see what will happen from there but at this present time, with 10 days [of the transfer window] to go, he's a Fulham player and we fully expect him to rehab back from his injury and play a big part."

So, how should Tottenham handle this situation? I think there is a simple answer.

Sessegnon was meant to be coming in to cover two positions at Spurs, left-wing and left-back. In terms of wingers, Tottenham already have the likes of Heung Min Son and Lucas Moura, who he would be unlikely to push out of the first team.

When it comes to left-back, the sensible thing to do would be to hand Danny Rose an extension and keep him around at the club, something they should have done in the first place.

This will then allow Levy to snap Sessegnon up on a free next summer, with the teenager having just one year left on his contract.

If the reports that the left wing-back wants to come to Spurs to stay in London and link up with Poch are correct, it should be easy to convince him to do so (Guardian).

Simple.
