Fulham 2-1 Queens Park Rangers

Aboubakar Kamara's two goals against QPR were his first of the season

Stand-in striker Aboubakar Kamara scored twice as Fulham overcame Queens Park Rangers to move up to fourth in the Championship table

Kamara, brought in to replace suspended top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, coolly took his chances after Rangers stunned the hosts with an early goal.

The visitors pressed high from the start and were rewarded for their attacking approach to the west London derby when Jordan Hugill forced the ball over the line from close range after Todd Kane's cross was parried into his path by goalkeeper Marek Rodak.

Another dangerous Kane cross almost led to a second, with Fulham defender Tim Ream seeing his attempted clearance come off the post.

Fulham recovered from their sluggish start and, with their first effort on target, Kamara headed home his first goal of the season.

Both sides had further first-half chances, Rodak keeping out Nahki Wells and what would have been an Alfie Mawson own goal either side of Ivan Cavaleiro hitting the woodwork for Fulham.

Kamara then punished QPR keeper Joe Lumley for a poor clearance, making the most of the time and space afforded to him to find the bottom corner just after the hour.

Suspension had robbed the hosts of talisman Mitrovic, who before the visit of QPR had scored half of all the Whites' Championship goals this season, but in Kamara they found a clinical replacement.

It was just his second start for the club since he was arrested after a clash at Fulham's training ground, banned from the club and sent on loan to Turkish side Malatyaspor earlier in the year.

The Frenchman's double ensured Scott Parker's side triumphed for just the second time without the league's leading scorer among the goals this season.

Mark Warburton's QPR, who have conceded the second most goals in the Championship, remain the only club in England's top four division yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

Their third defeat in a five-game winless run leaves them 10th in the table, but they can slip as low as 15th if a number of sides below them win over the weekend.

Rangers' trip to Craven Cottage had got off to the ideal start, Hugill putting them ahead inside three minutes of a high-tempo opening half from the visitors which saw Rodak twice called into action while another chance came off the post.

Fulham, however, gained the composure their early performance lacked and hit back through Kamara just before the half-hour mark.

Thereafter the hosts looked a reinvigorated force, Cavaleiro hitting the post before the break while Anthony Knockaert tested Lumley early in the second half.

Kamara then profited from Lumley's mistake to double his tally for the game and season, and it was nearly three for Fulham moments later as Knockaert hit the post in a rousing come-from-behind win for the Cottagers.

Fulham manager Scott Parker on match-winner Kamara:

"I'm really pleased for him. He has not been a problem since I stepped into the role.

"You have to manage him differently but he gives you everything and he topped off his performance with two really good finishes. The perception is very different to the reality.

"What happened last season with Abou is well documented but he has come back into the squad with the blessing of the players. They are fully on board.

"He has not been involved much this season, and he has his moments, but he is a grafter and he works hard and he deserved his goals."

QPR boss Mark Warburton:

"It's very frustrating to be leaving with nothing.

"We know about the quality in the Fulham squad, but we had to be brave and you saw us being brave.

"We got the early goal, created chances, matched a high-quality team in possession and been very, very good - but we've lost 2-1.

"In that first period we could have been two or three up. Had we left with a point, I'd have been frustrated."

Head Coach press conference

Scott Parker was delighted with his side's desire and passion during the West London derby.

An Aboubakar Kamara brace helped the Whites comeback to beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Craven Cottage on Friday night.

"I thought we were really poor in the first 20 minutes," said Parker.

"I don't think our attitude was poor, it was just QPR started the game really well, they got the goal and momentum was with them.

"The longer the first half went on, I saw a committed team that was trying to get themselves back in the game, which was pleasing.

"The goal came, we hit the post, we changed things around at the half and from there, put in a performance that was worthy of the win.

"We had some very good chances after we scored the second to put the game to bed.

"My team showed a real desire and passion, which I constantly talk about. We have very good technical players, but you also need something extra, and that's a mentality and passion which we need to keep driving into this team.

"This is a team which needs momentum. They need to know what is expected, not just in this league but any league. If you want to be a good team that's what you need."

Fulham's Head Coach reserved special praise for the matchwinner, Kamara.

"I'm really pleased for him," continued Parker.

"Abou's not been in a problem since I stepped into this role. There's one thing you can guarantee with Abou is that when he steps onto that field, he'll give you everything.

"We saw that tonight and he topped off his performance with two very good goals, two very good finishes.

"Maybe the perception on the outside is very different to the reality, and the reality is he's a very respected member of this squad. He is a grafter and deserved his goals today."

Leeds United: Noel Whelan name drops Aleksandar Mitrovic

Noel Whelan has suggested to Football Insider that Aleksandar Mitrovic could help Leeds United "romp the Championship" if he joined from Fulham.

Considering the Serbian has already scored 12 goals in the Championship this season, it seems a rather pretty obvious statement to make, although one that is perhaps undeniable. Whelan also said that the 25-year-old 'ticks every box for a striker at Championship level', which is good this season but suggests that he would struggle should Leeds gain promotion, and with Mitrovic being valued by Transfermarkt at £22.5m, that's a lot of money for a short-term fix. "Seriously. He's that good," he later proclaimed.

The 25-year-old has also scored 17 goals for Serbia so far this season, which takes his total up to 29 in 31 games. But what would happen to Patrick Bamford? You could play both of them upfront, meaning someone else would have to miss out on game time. This would also likely mean the end of Eddie Nketiah's stay, as we can't see the 20-year-old sticking around to be a third choice striker.

The problem for Marcelo Bielsa would be how you fit Mitrovic into the side. Bamford has only scored five goals in 16 appearances, which is much less of a return than the Serbian, meaning the Englishman could potentially be moved on to make space for the Fulham striker.

When playing in the Premier League, Mitrovic is a proven goalscorer but isn't necessarily consistently great. He can get goals, scoring 11 times for Fulham in the Premier League, however, he did play 37 games which makes him about a one-in-three or four striker, not this nearly a-goal-a-game striker he is when playing in the Championship.

Verdict

Bielsa hasn't played a two striker formation all season, so why would Leeds be interested in over staffing the striker position?

Bamford would almost certainly have to be sold if this move was to ever happen, we would recommend keeping Nketiah and keeping him as the backup, but definitely give him some more game time and a start here and there.

Acquiring Mitrovic would be a great bit of business if you can sign him for around £10m-£15m, as he'll probably be good for 10 goals if Leeds can get promoted this season, which should be good enough if other areas of the team also receive an upgrade; should the Peacocks be in the Premier League next season.

Fulham 2-1 QPR: Aboubakar Kamara hits brace as hosts prevail in west London derby and move up to fourth

Aboubakar Kamara scored a brace as Fulham came from behind to beat QPR
Jordan Hugill put QPR into an early lead before Kamara equalised for Fulham
Ivan Cavaleiro hit the post for Fulham and Kamara later scored the winner
Kamara stepped up in absence of suspended Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic
Following this result Fulham move up to fourth while QPR remain in tenth place

No Mitro? No matter.

Aboubakar Kamara proved that Fulham do know how to win without their top scoring talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic as his double stole the west London bragging rights.

Mitrovic had scored half of Fulham's Championship goals prior to this thrill-a-minute encounter, and seven of Fulham's last nine, and his suspension for accumulating five bookings was a major cause for concern.

Aboubakar Kamara celebrates with his team-mates after scoring Fulham's second goal

Kamara celebrates after his first goal of the season pulled Fulham level against QPR

But Kamara, who has been forced to be patient because of the Serbian striker's blistering form, stepped up and delivered to leave Queens Park Rangers cursing.

Of course, Kamara was involved in a bust-up with Mitrovic during a yoga session at Fulham's training ground earlier this year after rowing on the field over who should take penalties.

So this will be seen as a nice piece of redemption by the Frenchman after he was exiled on loan to Turkish club Yeni Malatyaspor and then restored to Fulham's squad in the summer.

'What happened last season with Abou is well documented but he has come back into the squad with the blessing of the players,' said Fulham boss Scott Parker.

'He has his moments but he is a grafter and he works hard and he deserves his goals. The perception is very different to the reality.'

Kamara equalised for Fulham when he scored a header in the 27th minute at Craven Cottage

The visitors from three miles up the road bossed proceedings for long spells, especially early on, but after scoring inside four minutes through Jordan Hugill, couldn't take their many other chances.

In the end, their defensive weakness haunted them again. Slack marking from two centre-halves for Kamara's first and a poor goalkeeper clearance for his second. QPR still haven't kept a clean sheet this season and it must keep Mark Warburton awake at night.

'Had we left here with a point, I would have been disappointed, so to lose is very frustrating,' said Warburton.

Fulham couldn't have started the match any more atrociously. For the first 25 minutes, the hosts seemed incapable of stringing three passes together and most they attempted went out of play.

One such slapdash pass, by goalkeeper Marek Rodak in the third minute, led to QPR stealing an early lead. The Slovak, trying to play out from his six-yard box, aimed for Joe Bryan and missed.

From the throw-in, a quick exchange saw Todd Kane in behind a sleeping Fulham defence and his low cut-back was deflected perfectly into Hugill's path.

Just six yards out, the QPR striker adjusted his body to prod the ball home despite the best efforts of Denis Odoi to hack it off the goalline. A check of James Linington's wristwatch confirmed the ball had crossed the whitewash and Hugill had his eighth of an impressive campaign.

Kane was outstanding at wing-back in a fanned-out five that offered propulsion down both flanks. But he should have done better when confronted with an open net shortly afterwards, scooping over after Rodak had turned aside Nahki Wells' shot.

Former Chelsea man Kane was causing Bryan all manner of problems and another inviting low cross was turned by a sliding Tim Ream against his own post.

Fulham defender Tim Ream attempts to win the ball from Hugill during the first half

QPR's utter dominance was irritating the home crowd, especially with local bragging rights on the line, and Rodak was once again called upon to push away a Hugill half-volley.

Given Fulham had been so poor, their 27th-minute equaliser came about as emphatically against the run of play as possible.

Odoi spun away neatly from Ryan Manning in the centre of the park, advanced and whipped in a delightful cross. Kamara ghosted between Toni Leistner and Grant Hall to guide a header home.

As though affronted by the indignity of conceding when so on top, QPR roared back into attack. Wells was played into the clear but denied by Rodak with only the keeper to beat.

But at least Fulham were now carrying some kind of threat. Spaces were opening up behind those marauding Rangers wing-backs and Tom Cairney skipped Ivan Cavaleiro through. He decided to aim for the near post and struck the post.

While Rodak may have been responsible for Fulham's terrible start, he'd atoned by half-time, making further saves from Kane and Hugill. It could easily have been 4-2 to QPR when they retired for the interval.

QPR started the second-half brightly too but Fulham fashioned a good opening only for Anthony Knockaert to fail to find enough power on a dug-out effort.

QPR's Nakhi Wells attempts to hold off Fulham's Alfie Mawson in the Championship clash

Fulham's improvement was visible and they exerted sustained pressure for the first time all night. Perhaps that contributed to QPR keeper Joe Lumley hitting a clearance straight to Stefan Johansen, who spotted Kamara in space on the left.

His through pass was perfect and Kamara showed coolness once again to slot home despite Lumley's best efforts.

Fulham moved in for the kill and Knockaert beat Lumley only to see the ball come back off the inside of the post and out again.

Kamara's double gives Fulham derby victory over QPR

Fulham 2 QPR 1

Aboubakar Kamara scored both Fulham's goals as they triumphed in the west London derby.

Jordan Hugill capitalised on some poor Whites defending to put QPR ahead after just four minutes at Craven Cottage.

Todd Kane's cross was deflected towards the on-loan West Ham striker, who shinned the ball over the line from a yard out.

Another Kane cross almost to a Rangers second – Fulham defender Tim Ream inadvertently turned the former Chelsea man's delivery against his own post.

But Rangers, yet to keep a clean sheet this season and now without a win in their past five matches, saw their own defensive shortcomings exposed once again.

Kamara, playing in place of the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic, hauled Fulham level by heading home Dennis Odoi's 27th-minute cross.

That galvanised the home side, who almost went ahead when Ivan Cavaleiro's effort struck the post shortly after the half-hour mark.

They eventually took the lead in the 64th minute courtesy of a mistake by Joe Lumley.

Keeper Lumley attempted to play the ball out from the back but instead played in straight to Stefan Johansen, who set up Kamara to apply the finish.

Fulham continued to dominate and they hit the post for a second time when Anthony Knockaert fired against the woodwork after being set up by Bobby Decordova-Reid.

Fulham: Rodak, Odoi, Mawson, Ream, Bryan, Johansen, Reed (Decordova-Reid 54), Cairney, Knockaert (Christie 76), Cavaleiro (McDonald 90), Kamara.
Subs not used: Bettinelli, Onomah, Kebano, O'Riley

QPR: Lumley, Kane, Hall, Leistner, Wallace, Manning, Ball (Mlakar 81), Amos (Chair 66), Eze, Wells (Scowen 66), Hugill

Fulham 2-1 QPR: Aboubakar Kamara double sees Cottagers move into playoff places with west London derby win

Kamara's cool finish sealed all three points for the home side. ( PA )

Aboubakar Kamara made sure Fulham did not rue the absence of Championship top scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, as his double sent them into the playoff places with a 2-1 victory over QPR in Friday night's London derby at Craven Cottage.

With 12-goal Mitrovic suspended, it was down to Kamara to lead the line, and he seized his chance brilliantly, scoring twice as Scott Parker's side came from a goal down to beat a Rangers outfit who are now without a win in five.

Kamara's inclusion was one of three changes made by Parker to the side that had beaten Birmingham before the international break, with skipper Tom Cairney fit to return in midfield and Joe Bryan given the nod at left-back.

The visitors had Geoff Cameron out suspended, meaning Tony Leistner came back in at the heart of the defence, while Jordan Hugill was recalled in place of Ilias Chair up front.

Scott Parker had said in the build-up that the international breaks had come at bad times for his side, killing their momentum, and that theory would go some way to explain what happened here, as they crawled out of the blocks and were behind after just three minutes.

Todd Kane, a threat throughout from right-wing-back, saw his cross deflected into the path of Hugill, and though the West Ham loanee could not sort his feet out, he made enough contact to divert the ball over the line, despite an almost-heroic attempted clearance by Denis Odoi.

The goal did nothing to spark life into the hosts, who barely got out of their half as the Rs continued to dominate. Kane missed a great chance to make it two, snatching at his volley on the rebound after Nakhi Wells' shot had been pushed away, before Tim Ream deflected Kane's cross onto his own post.

To say Fulham's leveller came against the run of play would be an understatement, but it was their own right-back that came up with the creative goods, whipping a wonderful ball onto the head of Kamara, who had somehow been left unattended by all three Rs centre-halves inside the six-yard box.

Still the visitors were on top, and Wells might have restored the lead immediately, going through one-on-one against Marek Rodark, only for the 'keeper to make a crucial stop.

Finally, Fulham built some sustained pressure, and very nearly went into the break ahead when Cairney's brilliant chest control in midfield allowed him to tee-up Ivan Cavaleiro, but the winger's shot crashed against the post.

Anthony Knockaert had been quiet in the first half, but had the first real chance of the second, selling an excellent dummy after Cavaleiro's cutback, only to sidefoot straight at Joe Lumley.

Just after the hour mark, however, the home side did have the lead, thanks in no small part to Lumley, who gifted possession away with an awful pass and was ruthlessly punished by Kamara.

Mark Warburton immediately sent on Josh Scowen and Chair, but it was almost game over before they had chance to make an impact, when substitute Bobby Reid fed Knockaert in behind, only for his effort to come back off the post.

The win takes Fulham into fourth for the time being at least, two points off the automatic promotion places, while Rangers stay tenth, but could yet end the weekend in the bottom half, should results go against them.

Fulham 2-1 QPR: Aboubakar Kamara scores twice as Cottagers take west London derby spoils
Report and highlights from the Sky Bet Championship clash at Craven Cottage

Fulham put their ability to cope without Aleksandar Mitrovic on show on Friday evening, as Aboubakar Kamara's double saw them come from behind to beat west London rivals QPR 2-1.

Scott Parker's team were made to work for their victory at Craven Cottage, though, having gone behind to Jordan Hugill's third-minute improvised effort that was quickly confirmed by the goal decision system.

Kamara headed a well-taken equaliser in the 27th minute and though the hosts hit the post twice, they never looked like conceding after the striker's clinical second (64).

Fulham move into fourth in the Sky Bet Championship standings as a result, with Rangers' five-game winless streak leaving them 10th.

Parker's Fulham getting back in the groove

While Championship top scorer Mitrovic was suspended for the hosts, QPR boss Mark Warburton had Hugill at his disposal and, within three minutes, he displayed his own capabilities in front of goal by when he gave the hosts the lead.

Just moments earlier, Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak had given away a cheap throw on the right, allowing Todd Kane to cross for Hugill in the six-yard box. Despite his best efforts, Denis Odoi's hooked clearance could not prevent the ball crossing the line.

Initially, the hosts looked shell-shocked and could not break out of midfield. But when they did, they got back on level terms in style, with Kamara guiding home a brilliant cross from Odoi.

Just after the half-hour mark, Ivan Cavaleiro went close to turning the game in the Cottagers' favour for the first time as he hit the base of the post from Tom Cairney's through ball.

Team news

Fulham boss Scott Parker made three changes from the side that beat Birmingham 1-0 last time out; Joe Bryan came in for Maxime Le Marchand and Tom Cairney replaced Bobby Reid, but the big news came up front where Aboubakar Kamara started in place of the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Meanwhile, the visitors made two changes after the 2-2 draw to Middlesbrough before the international break. Toni Leistner returned at centre-back at the expense of Geoff Cameron, while Jordan Hugill returned in place of Ilias Chair.

A stalemate with struggling Middlesbrough followed by a 3-0 defeat to Hull had put pressure on Parker, but in truth, Rangers offered little after the break and were behind after 64 minutes when Stefan Johansen set up Kamara to dispatch a deserved second.

Anthony Knockaert hit the post soon after, but though the visitors stepped things up a notch in the closing minutes, they could not find an equaliser to end their run of more than a month without victory.

Result: Aboubakar Kamara scores twice as Fulham overcome Queens Park Rangers

Aboubakar Kamara scored twice as Fulham came from behind to beat Queens Park Rangers 2-1 in Friday night's Championship clash at Craven Cottage.

Jordan Hugill had sent the R's into an early lead in the English capital, but Kamara scored once in either half to ensure that Fulham, who have moved into fourth spot in the table, would collect all three points.

Fulham entered the match without the services of this season's Championship leading scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic, who missed out though suspension, which saw Kamara start through the middle.

Left-back Joe Bryan and captain Tom Cairney were back into the XI, though, for a team looking to return to winning ways in front of their own supporters having lost to Hull City in their last game at Craven Cottage.

As for QPR, Geoff Cameron's suspension saw Toni Leistner come into the side, while Hugill was paired with Nakhi Wells in the final third of the field.

The R's made a bright start to proceedings and took the lead in just the fourth minute when Hugill bundled a low Todd Kane cross into the back of the net from close range.

Play resumed for a moment, but the referee's watch quickly signalled that the ball had crossed the line, sparking celebrations in the away end.

The visitors had a huge chance to double their lead in the seventh minute when Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak palmed a strike from Wells into the path of Kane, but the lively defender fired over the crossbar from close range.

Hugill then struck over the crossbar in the 10th minute with QPR having the better of the early exchanges against a Fulham side struggling to get hold of the ball in midfield.

The home side's first real attack came in the 11th minute when Anthony Knockaert broke down the right, but the attacker's cross was easily gathered by the waiting Joe Lumley.

QPR then hit the post down the other end when a low cross from Kane was deflected onto the woodwork by the sliding Tim Ream, before Rodak had to keep out a powerful Hugill drive, all inside 16 minutes.

Kamara's first sight of the QPR goal came in the 19th minute after working some space in the wide area, but the forward's effort was always curling away from the target.

The 24-year-old was not to be denied in the 27th minute, however, as he headed a brilliant Denis Odoi cross into the bottom corner to level the scores.

Fulham came close to taking the lead six minutes later when Ivan Cavaleiro struck a powerful attempt towards the bottom corner after smart work from Cairney, only for the post to come to QPR's rescue on this occasion.

QPR had the better of the early exchanges but Fulham were in control approaching the end of the first period, with another opportunity coming and going when Stefan Johansen sent a free kick into the arms of Lumley.

Rodak made another smart save to keep out an attempt from Hugill in the final exchanges of the first 45, and the two teams headed down the tunnel at 1-1 following an entertaining opening half of action.

The first chance of the second period came for QPR when a half-cleared corner fell for Lee Wallace, but the defender could only scoop the ball over the crossbar.

Knockaert then struck into the arms of the away side's goalkeeper in the 55th minute, moments after Bobby Reid had been introduced in place of Harrison Reed as Scott Parker looked to his bench.

Fulham took the lead in the 64th minute of the match when Kamara collected a smart pass from Johansen before finding the back of the net despite the best efforts of Lumley.

The home side almost had a third shortly after when Knockaert broke into a shooting position, but the attacker saw his low effort hit the post as QPR survived conceding another.

The woodwork again came to the away side's rescue in the 68th minute when Cavaleiro's low effort struck the foot of the post during a period of dominance.

The chances dried up in the spell that followed, though, and the Cottagers were able to ease their way to their eighth Championship win of the campaign despite five additional minutes, leaving them just four points off leaders West Bromwich Albion.

Next up for Fulham is a home game against Derby County on Tuesday while QPR will attempt to return to winning ways when they host Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

FULHAM (4-3-3): Rodak; Odoi, Maison, Ream, Bryan; Reed (Reid 55'), Cairney, Johansen; Knockaert (Christie 76'), Kamara, Cavaleiro (McDonald 90')

QUEENS PARK RANGERS (5-3-2): Lumley; Kane, Hall, Leistner, Wallace, Manning; Amos (Chair 65'), Ball (Mlakar 81'), Eze; Wells (Scowen 66'), Hugill

Fulham 2 QPR 1 - Kamara double sees Rangers lose to local rivals

Championship: Fulham 2 Queens Park Rangers 1

A double from Aboubakar Kamara ensured QPR made it five games without a win as they were beaten 2-1 away at rivals Fulham.

Jordan Hugill gave the R's a dream start when he put his side ahead early on but the Cottagers had an error from Joe Lumley to thank for their winning goal as they secured all three points.

Rangers had the lead after just three minutes when Todd Kane found space down the right-hand side and crossed the ball across the box, with Hugill tapping home.

The R's had a golden chance to make it two on seven minutes when the ball fell to Kane at the back post following Marek Rodak's save but the defender hit the ball high into the air and off target.

Goalscorer Hugill then shot over from range as the away side continued their early pressure.

And QPR almost had a second again when danger man Kane got in down the right and hit a low cross into the box, which Tim Ream blocked onto the post and out.

Kamara then cut in from the left and curled an effort harmlessly wide of the post for the home side.

But Kamara had his side's equaliser on 27 minutes when Ryan Manning was beaten out wide by Denis Odoi, who picked the striker out with a great cross as Kamara buried a powerful header into the corner.

Moments later, Nahki Wells could have given Rangers the lead as Rodak rushed out to deny his effort when one-on-one.

The home side had a great chance of their own to go ahead when Tom Cairney played in Ivan Cavaleiro, whose effort smacked off the near post.

On 37 minutes, a free-kick in a dangerous position saw Stefan Johansen curl the ball straight into the hands of Joe Lumley.

Two minutes before the break, Hugill poked a cross from Manning towards goal with Rodak getting down well to save, as both sides went in level.

Ebere Eze had the first chance of the half when he shot low into Rodak's gloves a minute after the restart.

The Cottagers had a good chance of their own on 55 minutes when Anthony Knockaert worked space for himself inside the box after being picked out by Cavaleiro but shot straight at Lumley.

But the home side had the lead on 64 minutes when Lumley's attempted pass fell straight to Johansen, who played in Kamara to finish well into the far corner.

It was almost three moments later when Knockaert went through and clipped the post with his effort.

Cavaleiro then hit the side-netting as the Whites pushed for a third goal.

Substitute Ilias Chair curled an effort straight at Rodak in added time before Lee Wallace flashed an effort over the bar from a corner in the last opportunity of the game as Rangers suffered a third defeat in five games.

QPR: Lumley, Kane, Hall, Leistner, Wallace, Manning, Ball, Amos, Eze, Wells, Hugill

Fulham: Rodak, Odoi, Mawson, Ream, Bryan, Johansen, Reed, Cairney, Knockaert, Kamara, Caveleiro

Report Aboubakar Kamara's brace vs QPR moves Fulham into Championship play-off places

Aboubakar Kamara's first goals of the season fired Fulham to a 2-1 derby victory over west London rivals QPR.

French striker Kamara, whose career at Craven Cottage looked over last term, scored in each half to cancel out Jordan Hugill's opener for Rangers.

Victory moved Scott Parker's side up to fourth in the Championship to boost their bid for an instant return to the top-flight.

Rangers were ahead inside three minutes when Todd Kane drilled a low centre across goal and Hugill, on a season-long loan from West Ham, arrived at the far post to steer the ball into the net.

Fulham's calamitous defending underpinned their relegation from the Premier League last season and it seemed little had changed when Tim Ream inadvertently almost doubled Rangers' lead.

The centre-half slid in to cut out another Kane cross and planted the ball straight onto the foot of his own post.

QPR had raced into an early lead at Craven Cottage

At the other end of the pitch Fulham were missing 12-goal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, the Championship's top scorer, through suspension.

His place was taken by Kamara, who in January was arrested after a clash at Fulham's training ground, banned from the club and eventually sent on loan to Turkish side Malatyaspor.

When Denis Odoi crossed from the right Kamara, making only his second start of the season, helped himself to his first Fulham goal since netting the consolation in a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal on New Year's Day.

Odoi's delivery was perfect and Kamara slipped between two defenders to head into the bottom corner, meaning Rangers remain the only club in the entire Football League yet to keep a clean sheet this term.

Fulham's tails were up and five minutes later Tom Cairney fed Ivan Cavaleiro, who got beyond Grant Hall, but crashed his shot against the near post.

Anthony Knockaert, who had endured a quiet first half for Fulham, came alive after the interval when he tiptoed into the QPR area and forced a fine stop from Joe Lumley.

Fulham's pressure told in the 64th minute when Lumley's poor clearance fell straight to the feet of Stefan Johansen. The Norwegian midfielder played the ball through to Kamara, who took a touch before beating Lumley inside the far post.

Knockaert almost doubled Fulham's winning margin when his shot beat Lumley but came back off the inside of the post.

Fulham 2-1 QPR: FLW reports as superb Kamara hits a double to help down R's and send Whites fourth

Aboubakar Kamara scored twice as he replaced the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic to help Fulham come from behind to beat QPR 2-1 at Craven Cottage on Friday night to move them back into the play-off places.

Going into this one QPR had not won any of their previous four matches whilst Fulham had seen off Birmingham just before the international break to reach the cusp of the top-six.

Form, therefore, was not on the side of the R's. But that did not phase them in the opening stages and with Championship top-scorer Mitrovic suspended for the hosts, why should it? Within three minutes they were ahead.

After a shaky opening from the hosts, QPR sprang into life, Todd Kane was fed in down the right-hand side and his centre was parried by Marek Rodak, but it landed right in front of the returning Jordan Hugill.

A slightly fortuitous finish, admittedly, as it flicked off his knee and then his foot, but it didn't matter as it creeped over the line for his eighth goal of the season, despite the best efforts of the retreating Denis Odoi.

It was the R's who continued to dominate the opening exchanges too. Nahki Wells' parried shot just bouncing too high for Kane to finish before the right-back saw his cross turned onto his own post by Ream, with a second goal seeming inevitable.

But the longer the game stayed at 1-0, the more confidence Parker's side started to play with.

With the likes of Ivan Cavaleiro, Tom Cairney and Anthony Knockaert all on the pitch, the Whites were not short of creators, but it would be Odoi who inspired the equaliser.

Some slick footwork was followed by a pinpoint cross, one which Kamara could not have asked much more of, and the unmarked striking incumbent headed cooly into the bottom-left corner – a moment that will have left Warburton seething.

Nahki Wells passed up the opportunity to give his side the lead again almost immediately, dithering on the ball when set through on goal, allowing Rodak time to advance and smother the Burnley loanee, denying him his tenth of the season.

It would be that early dominance and wasted opportunities that Warburton's side would be left to rue come full-time.

In a reversal of the first half, it was the hosts who came out firing after the break, pinning the R's in as they played with a fresh energy.

After 15 minutes, it eventually paid. With Warburton's men trying to play out from the back, Lumley was rushed into a clearance which fell kindly to the feet of Stefan Johansen.

The Norwegian slid a simple pass to an unmarked Kamara who set his feet before squeezing a shot past the despairing dive of the 'keeper to give his side the lead.

Blood clearly wafted in the nostrils of the hosts as they looked to kill this one off. Knockaert was sent racing through on goal after an impressive run and pass by substitute Bobby Reid, but the Frenchman could only watch on as his shot agonisingly struck the inside of the post, before Cavaleiro then saw his own shot from close range trickle wide moments later.

The R's continued to huff and puff their way up field with substitute Ilias Chair doing his best to keep the Fulham back line busy, but as the second half progressed, the more it became clear that QPR tanks were quickly emptying and ideas were running at a premium.

So it was left to Kamara to take the plaudits. Odoi impressed at right-back whilst Knockaert and Cavaleiro continued to shine, but it was the man with the unenviable task of replacing the league's top-scorer who shone brightest.

His physical presence a perfect replica for the Serbian's at both ends of the pitch and his performance will undoubtedly have had a lasting impression on his manager, as his side moved up to fourth.

For QPR, it becomes five without a win with the Hoops now facing the prospect of sitting as low as 16th come Sunday evening.

AK Double sends Fulham Fourth

Fulham edged an entertaining West London Derby under the lights at Craven Cottage thanks to an Aboubakar Kamara double. Kamara caused a fair few raised eyebrows, including my own, when his name appeared on the team sheet, but he took a huge step towards proving that he is a solid stand in for the suspended Aleksander Mitrovic.

Atrocious defending gave Rangers the lead inside the first few minutes, with Joe Bryan caught out of position and then Marek Rodak pushing the ball into the path of Jordan Hugill for a simple finish. There have been so many question marks over our defence this season, and it doesn't look as those questions will be going away anytime soon. Tim Ream played like his head was still on a plane somewhere travelling home from International duty, while we had too many players trying to over pass the ball.

While Rodak was poor for the opening goal, he did redeem himself on a few occasions throughout the first half with quick thinking to prevent Nahki Wells from getting a shot away when he was one on one, before making a crucial save from Hugill just before half time.

Our first goal came from the man who has divided opinion since his arrival at Craven Cottage. It was a brilliant piece of play and delivery from Denis Odoi, perfectly placed for Aboubakar Kamara to head home for his first goal of the night to draw Fulham level at the break.

The second half started on a more even footing, but still QPR were proving a threat from the wing-back positions and Alfie Mawson had to be at his best and block a number of shots and crosses in quick succession. Harrison Reed had to be replaced by Bobby Reid after picking up a knock early in the second half. Reid was straight into the action, carving out an opportunity for Anthony Knockaert instantly.

While the switch was forced, there can be no doubt that Reid made a difference to a Fulham team that had struggled to use the ball effectively in the first half. Stefan Johansen was pushed slightly further back to allow Cairney and Reid to roam forward, and Parker's side became much more dangerous straight away. Fulham's second of the night came from a high press, the sort of play that teams so often play against us. Bobby Reid gave QPR keeper Joe Lumley no time to think about his clearance, and he could only blast straight at Johansen. The Norwegian took one look, and released Kamara who maintained his composure and found the bottom corner to double the lead and his tally for the night. Fulham very nearly added a third within minutes, with Reid putting through Knockaert but the winger could only find the base of the post with his shot.

We have too often this season went into the closing stages of a game with a slender lead only to end up with a draw, so I'm sure I wasn't the only one feeling uneasy about the last fifteen minutes but tonight seemed to be Fulham's night. Some tenacious play from Ivan Cavaleiro in the final 10minutes was a particular highlight of mine as it shows that this Fulham team is becoming much better in terms of game management.

Kevin McDonald was brought on for Cavaleiro for the five minutes of injury time to help see Parker's boys through to a second successive victory and to send them to fourth in the table ahead of the weekend's games.

Job done in the first West London derby of the season at a time when Fulham have been under a great deal of pressure. While it wasn't a perfect performance, it was the sort of game that we have failed to get points from the in past. We can be proud of our team tonight.

Two-goal Kamara makes light of Mitrovic absence as Fulham beat QPR

Fulham 2 QPR 1

Two goals from Aleksandar Mitrovic's stand-in gave Fulham the points in Friday night's thrilling west London derby.

Fulham were second best during the first half, but Aboubakar Kamara's first goal of the season ensured parity after 45 minutes.

And the unpredictable striker finished smartly midway through the second half to fully justify Scott Parker's faith in him as the man to turn to in the absence of a suspended Mitrovic.

The Serb could not have done better himself.

The comeback had looked a long way off during a one-sided opening, with Rangers on top and full of menace, carving out good openings they should have cashed in on more heavily.

And with Fulham's 12-goal top scorer missing, QPR will chalk it up as a missed opportunity.

The game was only three minutes old when Jordan Hugill put the visitors in front with his eighth goal of the season.

Todd Kane, impressive at right wing back, got in behind the Fulham defence and his cut back, although reached by a stretching Marek Rodak, fell perfectly to the QPR marksman at the far post.

Soon after, Rodak was diving low to his left to deny Nahki Wells and then Tim Ream almost put through his own net, turning a low cross from Kane against a post as the home side struggled to find their footing.

But with the shots count reading 6-1 in Rangers' favour, Fulham equalised against the run of play on 27 minutes when Denis Odoi worked space for himself before delivering the perfect cross for Kamara to nod past Joe Lumley.

Rodak came out to smother Wells as Rangers almost retook the lead immediately, but Fulham, clearly galvanised again after a chastening opening 20 minutes, were almost in front when Ivan Cavalheiro smacked a low drive against the post following a sliderule pass from Tom Cairney,

Rangers were next to go close, when Hugill and Alfie Mawson contested a wicked cross from Ryan Manning, with a goalbound touch coming off one or both of them, but Rodak was equal to it.

After the break, Anthony Knockaert went close soon after the arrival off Bobby Reid off the bench - in place of n injured Harrison Reed. It was a switch that gave the hosts more pace and threat in the final third.

And on 64 minutes, the Whites went in front when Kamara bagged his second by slipping the ball past the advancing Lumley – who invited the goal with a sloppy kick out straight to Stefan Johansen.

A few minutes later and it should have been game over, with Reid playing in a perfect pass for Knockaert to race onto and the winger sending a low shot which came back off the far post.

But Fulham had their tails up now in what was an entirely different match. Boss Mark Warburton tried to reignite Rangers' fading challenge, with Ilias Chair and Jan Mlakar brought on, but the Whites suddenly looked more solid and there was no way back for the visitors.

Kamara in from the cold to fire Fulham to victory

Aboubakar Kamara's first goals of the season fired Fulham to a 2-1 derby victory over west London rivals QPR.

French striker Kamara, whose career at Craven Cottage looked over last term, scored in each half to cancel out Jordan Hugill's opener for Rangers.

Victory moved Scott Parker's side up to fourth in the Championship to boost their bid for an instant return to the top flight.

Rangers were ahead inside three minutes, when Todd Kane drilled a low centre across goal and Hugill, on a season-long loan from West Ham, arrived at the far post to steer the ball into the net.

Fulham's calamitous defending underpinned their relegation from the Premier League last season and it seemed little had changed when Tim Ream inadvertently almost doubled Rangers' lead. The centre-half slid in to cut out another Kane cross and planted the ball straight onto the foot of his own post.

Fulham's tails were up and five minutes later Tom Cairney fed Ivan Cavaleiro, who got beyond Grant Hall but crashed his shot against the near post.

Anthony Knockaert, who had endured a quiet first half for Fulham, came alive after the interval when he tiptoed into the QPR area and forced a fine stop from Joe Lumley.

Fulham's pressure told in the 65th minute when Lumley's poor clearance fell straight to the feet of Stefan Johansen. The Norwegian midfielder played the ball through to Kamara, who took a touch before beating Lumley inside the far post.

Knockaert almost doubled Fulham's winning margin when his shot beat Lumley but came back off the inside of the post.

Fulham v QPR player ratings

Aboubakar Kamara scored both Fulham's goals as they beat QPR 2-1 in the west London derby. Here's how we rated the players.

Fulham
Marek Rodak: 7

Was left exposed by an erratic defence early on when QPR were in the ascendancy. However, the keeper made a great stop with his feet to deny Nahki Wells on the break with the visitors seeking to regain their lead. Also smothered an Ebere Eze drive after the restart.
Denis Odoi: 7

Had some early difficulties containing Eze on the right side of defence with QPR in confident mood. Regained his composure though and supplied a superb cross for Kamara to net the leveller.

Alfie Mawson: 7

Had trouble containing QPR striker Jordan Hugill on occasions. Did well to regularly clear danger as QPR pressed the hosts hard at the start of the second half.
Tim Ream: 6

Almost conceded a second goal following a 14th-minute R's raid, turning Todd Kane's cross against his own post. Made some timely second-half interventions.
Joe Bryan: 6

The Whites left-back was caught out for the opening goal when he allowed Kane space to drill in a cross. More diligent as the game progressed.
Stefan Johansen: 7

Could have done a little better from a free-kick in a good position as the Whites sought to go in front. Was well policed at times by QPR's Luke Amos but a fine assist led to Kamara's second goal.
Harrison Reed: 6

Industrious and helped out defensively at times with QPR trying to cause havoc on the right side. Substituted for Bobby Decordova-Reid as Fulham boss Scott Parker opted for more freshness.
Tom Cairney: 7

A quiet opening for the Fulham playmaker until the equaliser. Did well to set up Ivan Cavaleiro in the 32nd minute, with his team-mate subsequently striking the post. More influential as the game went on.
Anthony Knockaert: 7

Quiet for long spells but almost put Fulham ahead on 54 minutes, creating space inside the QPR box before his shot was well saved by Joe Lumley. Struck the post in Fulham's busy attempts to score a third goal, before making way for Cyrus Christie.
Aboubakar Kamara: 8

In for the suspended Aleksandar Mitrovic – and he delivered. A precise header drew the hosts level. A calm finish in the 62nd minute was well deserved for a display full of threat.
Ivan Cavaleiro: 8

Unlucky to hit the woodwork from close range as Fulham grew in stature after their equaliser. Always busy trying to create openings and hustled throughout.
Bobby Decordova-Reid: 6

Came on for Harrison Reed 0n 53 minutes. Helped drive the Whites on as the visitors waned.
Cyrus Christie: 6

Replaced Knockaert on 73 minutes with Parker looking to shore up Fulham's narrow lead. Did what was asked of him.

Report | Fulham U23s 1 Swansea City U23s 1

Swansea City Under-23s ended their four-match losing streak with a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Fulham in Premier League 2 Division Two.

Will Rickard gave the Swans a first-half lead at Motspur Park with what was his first goal for the development side.

However, Martell Taylor-Crossdale's second-half equaliser ensured a share of the spoils for the hosts, who finished the game with 10 men after the striker was sent off for a second bookable offence within five minutes of levelling the contest.

Aiming to end a run of four consecutive defeats in all competitions, the Swans made three changes to the side that were narrowly beaten by Reading in the Premier League Cup before the international break.

Josh Gould returned in goal ahead of Lewis Webb and Matthew Blake replaced Scott Butler in defence, with Brandon Cooper moving across into the centre alongside Cameron Evans.

Meanwhile, there was a first Swansea appearance in three months for Aldo Kalulu, who marked his return from injury by playing the opening 45 minutes.

Appearing for the first time since August's 3-2 victory over Preston North End at the Liberty, the Frenchman – on loan from Basel – played a crucial role as the Swans took the lead in the 18th minute.

Following some good work down the right, Kalulu showed good awareness to pick out Rickard who, arriving from the left, netted his first goal for the under-23s.

The winger went close to doubling his and the visitors' tally soon after – heading just wide as they continued to threaten throughout the first half.

However, Fulham responded after the break and equalised within five minutes of the restart. Some sloppy play was pounced on by the hosts, with Taylor-Crossdale providing a calm finish.

But the striker went from hero to villain five minutes later – receiving a second yellow card for a rash challenge on substitute Ali Al-Hamadi.

Despite the numerical advantage, the Swans were just unable to break down their stubborn opponents and had to settle for a share of the spoils in West London.

Swansea City U23s: Josh Gould; Ryan Bevan, Cameron Evans, Brandon Cooper, Matthew Blake; Jack Evans (capt), Kees de Boer; Aldo Kalulu (Ali Al-Hamadi, ht), Simon Paulet, Will Rickard (Josh Thomas, 80); Liam Cullen.

Subs not used: Lewis Webb, Jake Thomas, Morgan Clarke.

Fulham and Kamara have put last season's controversy in past – Parker

Scott Parker insisted both Fulham and Aboubakar Kamara have put last season's controversy behind them after the striker scored twice to sink QPR 2-1.

Kamara's Craven Cottage career looked over in January after a series of bust-ups, one of which saw him arrested, banned from the club and then sent on loan to Turkish side Malatyaspor.

Yet Cottagers boss Parker has reintegrated Kamara into the squad and, with 12-goal top-scorer Aleksandar Mitrovic suspended, turned to the Frenchman to lead the line against Rangers.

Parker was rewarded with a goal in each half as Fulham came from behind to beat their west London rivals and climb up to fourth in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Parker said: "I'm really pleased for him.

Rangers were ahead inside three minutes, when Todd Kane drilled a low centre across goal and Jordan Hugill, on a season-long loan from West Ham, arrived at the far post to steer the ball into the net.

But when Denis Odoi crossed from the right Kamara – making only his second start of the season – headed his first Fulham goal since netting the consolation in a 4-1 defeat at Arsenal on New Year's Day.

Fulham's tails were up and five minutes later Tom Cairney fed Ivan Cavaleiro, who got beyond Grant Hall but crashed his shot against the near post.

Their pressure told in the 65th minute when Rangers goalkeeper Joe Lumley's poor clearance fell straight to the feet of Stefan Johansen.

The Norwegian midfielder played the ball through to Kamara, who took a touch before beating Lumley inside the far post.

QPR boss Mark Warburton said: "It's very frustrating to be leaving with nothing.

"We know about the quality in the Fulham squad, but we had to be brave and you saw us being brave.

"We got the early goal, created chances, matched a high-quality team in possession and been very, very good – but we've lost 2-1.

"In that first period we could have been two or three up. Had we left with a point, I'd have been frustrated."

Acquiring Mitrovic would be a great bit of business if you can sign him for around £10m-£15m, as he'll probably be good for 10 goals if Leeds can get promoted this season, which should be good enough if other areas of the team also receive an upgrade; should the Peacocks be in the Premier League next season.

https://thisisfutbol.com/2019/11/blogs/leeds-united-noel-whelan-name-drops-aleksandar-mitrovic/
If you can sign Mitro for 10 - 15 mill, where do these people come from. Obviously he must be incredibly stupid. Using this logic we sell Mitro for 15 mill and we can sign Harry Kane for 5 which is about as likely as selling Mitro for that measly sums of money. He would have to cost a club north of 40 mill for us to sell and then he would have to hand in a transfer request. Such useless stupid journalism.
