The problem is there is a shortage of good referees. In amateur football there are signs everywhere saying respect the ref. Mistakes are made at all levels of the game. Things that are seen on the pitch are sometimes different to things seen by spectators at the side. VAR is not the answer. Could an extra pair of officials be the answer?
It is too easy to explain his mistakes just as things that can happen. This was one of the worst refereeing performances I have seen. I would feel kind of sorry for the guy (he must know he had an absolute shocker) ... except he gets paid good money to do this. He is not an amateur receiving £25 for probably 3 or 4 hours of his time (including travel and changing) and putting up with abuse from thugs on a park pitch. He made several appalling decisions. Now I don't believe he is corrupt, because we are dealing with respectable people, officials and clubs, but this was incompetence on a scale that is hard to believe. It wasn't just the one penalty decision he got wrong. That in itself was inexcusable, but there were loads more. I also don't see how he could have missed the shove on Cavaleiro at the end of the first half. Clear two handed shove in the back. Stupid penalty to give away? Yes. But it was a foul. Cav was the only one to really complain about it .. because he KNEW it was a penalty.

On the 90 minute coverage, you can't see their no. 9s challenge on Ream right at the end of the half. Looked like an elbow in the face ...if so red card. Reckless and dangerous challenge in any case? Certainly, and definitely a yellow. He had already clattered Mawson a couple of times, at least one of which was both late and malicious as well but our ref hadn't even given a foul.

It's not just a case of a bad day. Even if we weren't at our best in the first half, we did not deserve to lose that game. Yesterday the referee decided the result.

Have to keep an eye out where he gets picked to ref next week. Normally after a bad game they get knocked down a few divisions so should see him over my local park then.
