January Transfer Rumour Round-Up: Part 3

The end is nigh! January's a terribly arduous month laden with newfangled vegan atrocities and alcohol abstinence, but the mid-term transfer window offers us a shot of interim escapism that we all madly lust for. Come 11pm, Friday 31st, though, we'll know exactly who's destined to front our bid for promotion in the coming weeks and months and like it or not, we'll just have to stomach whatever's served up for us.

There'll be arrivals, there'll be departures and there'll be remainers (not in the political sense, but I couldn't resist) and we've already waved goodbye to various youth prospects in Timmy Abraham, Jaydn Josiah Mundle-Smith and Jayden Harris, who have all flown the nest at Motspur Park on short-term deals to further their respective educations.

Jordan Archer's a White, Terence Kongolo's sampling life in SW6 and Ivan Cavaleiro, joined by Bobby Decordova Reid, are staying put for good, so who's next in line to join them on the banks of the Thames? Indefinite links will stack up alongside the solid, although here's an enticing cluster of could be/would be/should be targets that may just flash up on your TV screens as Deadline Day runs its fascinating course. Stick that kettle on!

Kieran Bowie – Raith Rovers
Now, Dundee-based publication The Courier have disclosed that Fulham have successfully landed Kieron Bowie from Raith Rovers for £150k, although there's been no official update from the Whites regarding this supposed purchase, so we'll treat it as nothing more than a burgeoning rumour for now.

Bowie, 17, has bagged 10 goals (wham, bam, thank you ma'am) for the Scottish League One table toppers this season and whilst the report suggests the youngster now belongs to the Fulham, he'll ultimately remain at Stark's Park for the remainder of the campaign to continue his development.

Isaac Mbenza – Huddersfield Town
Our mates at Get French Football News are back and they believe that Fulham and AFC Bournemouth – subject to a report published by fellow French outlet L'Équipe – are hot on the heels of Huddersfield Town's Isaac Mbenza.

The 23-year-old French-born striker has represented Belgium at youth level and he certainly knows his way to goal, although having only featured 7 times for the Terriers to date this term in all competitions, a late January switch could befall the discarded attacker. By all accounts, Mbenza's doesn't have the best of attitudes and work ethics, so perhaps we'll skip this one, just to be safe.

Connor Goldson – Rangers
Another defender could be on the verge of a mid-season switch to SW6, according to Football Insider. Rangers' Connor Goldson is the man in the spotlight and it's thought that Parker's keen to lure him back over the border, to bolster his options at the back.

The 27-year-old joined Steven Gerrard's camp in June 2018 from Brighton & Hove Albion and, whilst he's a centre-half by trade, he's also deputised at right-back, and we all know how much Fulham love utility in a defender. Goldson is a trusted figure at Ibrox, though, so the likelihood of him leaving the SPL title challengers is particularly slim.

Jota – Aston Villa
As per a report commissioned by Daily Mail, Premier League relegation candidates Aston Villa are supposedly prepared to allow their Spanish winger, Jota, to leave Villa Park on a temporary basis before the January transfer window's up, and Fulham are said to be the front runners for his services.

With only 12 appearances for Dean Smith's squad under his belt since jumping across town from Birmingham City in the summer, Jota could very well be on his way back down to the Capital, as Parker's allegedly an admirer of the former Brentford trickster's flamboyant ability.

Alfie Doughty – Charlton Athletic
Reliable Source Richard Cawley penned a piece for South London Press concerning the future of Charlton Athletic's searing flanker Alfie Doughty, and it's been declared that Fulham are tailing the 20-year-old, who began the 2019-20 campaign on loan at National League side Bromley.

The Addicks have been blighted by injuries and Doughty has taken the chance to shine under Lee Bowyer with both hands, hence the Whites' proposed interest. Doughty was electrifying as the two clubs played out a tedious 0-0 draw at The Valley recently, although Charlton, in light of this, have apparently made it categorically clear that the prospering youngster is not for sale.

1 in and 1 out that could still happen at Fulham between now and transfer deadline

Fulham have had an impressive transfer window.

The start of the month saw Michael Hector finalise his move from Chelsea. He'd initially agreed to move in the summer and had been training with Fulham up until the New Year, and has since come into the first-team and proven a hit.

Then Scott Parker oversaw the permanent signing of Ivan Cavaleiro from Wolves, and later Bobby Reid from Cardiff, with Jordan Archer joining on a free from Oxford United as well and Terrence Kongolo from on-loan from. Huddersfield

An overall impressive haul for Fulham this month, but the transfer window isn't over yet. The window will slam shut at 11pm tonight and that gives teams plenty of time to do more business.

Fulham could yet see another name through the door or one head for it – here we take a look at one in and on out that could happen at Fulham before the transfer deadline:

In – Alfie Doughty
The Charlton midfielder was this morning linked with a move to Fulham. Parker had reportedly made an enquiry about the 20-year-old but Charlton are said to be unwilling to off-load the midfielder this month.

He started the season on-loan at Bromley but was recalled in October amid Charlton's injury crisis. The Addicks were plagued by injuries and remain so, and Lee Bowyer was forced to recall the likes of Doughty and Albie Morgan from loan-spells in the National League.

Doughty has proved a hit though and even scored his first goal for the club in a 3-2 win over Bristol City, his being the winner that night.

It'd be a good buy for Fulham but Charlton look reluctant to let him go – it might be pricey to bring him to Craven Cottage.

Out – Cyrus Christie
Christie has been in and out of the Fulham first-team this season, which is why it came as a surprise to most when it was reported that Roma were looking at the full-back.

The Irishman has made 15 Championship appearances for Parker's side this season, but has become more of a regular feature since the festive period.

He's a right-back with real pace and attacking threat, but showed last year in the Premier League that he wasn't quite there yet. It'd be a shock move if it did go through, but with Roma having shown no further interest, it seems likely that Christie will remain in London.

Parker will be keen to hold on to him. He's just got his team looking back to their best and a loss like this would put a huge dent in their promotion credentials.

The Italians could still throw in a late bid though. Deadline day is always chaotic and no one Fulham player is safe just yet.

Report: Fulham hoping to raid London rivals for youngster once dubbed 'outstanding'

Scott Parker's Fulham have reportedly set their sights on Charlton Athletic youngster Alfie Doughty - is he going to swap The Valley for Craven Cottage?

Fulham are hoping to raid local rivals Charlton Athletic for the exciting Alfie Doughty, according to London News Online, though a January deal will be easier said than done.

With the Addicks plummeting like a stone after a brilliant start to the Championship campaign, the last thing Lee Bowyer needed was to see another of his star players linked with a move away from the Valley.

Charlton have already lost goalscoring midfielder Conor Gallagher to Swansea while star striker Lyle Taylor could also go before Friday's transfer deadline with his contract due to expire in the summer.

20-year-old Doughty, meanwhile, has represented a rare bright spark for the Londoners since he was recalled from a loan spell at Bromley in the autumn.

An all-action all-rounder who has played in a variety of midfield roles, as well as at left-back, Doughty offered a tantalising glimpse of his rapid pace and creative instincts with a magical assist against Preston earlier this month.

Such moments of supreme technique have caught the eye of Fulham, London News Online report, but Charlton have made it clear that the academy graduate is not for sale this month.

"He's just shown that [he can play Championship football]. He was excellent," Bowyer told the same publication after Doughty inspired Charlton's 3-1 win against Sheffield Wednesday in November.

"I thought he was outstanding."

Doughty is arguably at his best when flying down the left-hand side, though it must be mentioned that Fulham are hardly short of quality on that flank with Joe Bryan, Ivan Cavaleiro and co in Scott Parker's ranks. The youngster needs first-team football in order to continue his progression and he will certainly get that at Charlton.

Fulham: Cottagers linked with move for Jota

Fulham are said to be interested in signing Aston Villa's Jota before the transfer window closes this coming Friday – that's according to the Daily Mail. The player joined Dean Smith's side from their local rivals Birmingham City last summer but could be on the move again already.

The Spaniard has made just eight league appearances this season and has only started in 17% of the club's Premier League games so far. The report claims that Scott Parker is a fan of the 28-year-old and that the former Brentford man has been a transfer target for the club in the past.

Aston Villa are said to want rid of the forward in order to free up some funds for wages as they look to strengthen in order to try and secure safety this season.

TIF Tactics – Could Fulham be tempted into some late business?

Fulham are currently in fourth, four points off of West Bromwich Albion in the automatic promotion position and may see Jota as somebody who can add another dimension to their attack. However, with it being so late in the day striking a deal before the window closes could prove difficult.

The Cottagers are currently short of attacking options with Aleksandar Mitrovic, Aboubakar Kamara, Neeskens Kebano and Anthony Knockaert all sidelined – therefore if the right player became available, you could be forgiven for thinking they could be tempted into reaching for the cheque book.

Parker's side take on Huddersfield Town this weekend and after a disappointing draw at Charlton last time out, they'll be looking to get back to winning ways.

Danny Cowley encouraged by Joel Coleman performance ahead of unexpected Fulham chance

The backup goalkeeper had to come on to see the game out against Hull City on Tuesday evening after Kamil Grabara went off injured

Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley is comfortable with the likelihood that he will have to fielding back-up goalkeeper Joel Coleman from the start against Fulham on Saturday afternoon - and possibly beyond.

The 24 year old is the only fit senior goalkeeper at the club with Kamil Grabara ruled out for at least the next four weeks, and Cowley has confirmed the club will be looking to dip into the loan market to bring in another keeper as a matter of urgency before the transfer window closes at 11pm on Friday night.

But it is not clear whether that temporary signing would be in preference to Coleman or as back-up.

Ryan Schofield was Town's second-choice goalkeeper at the start of this season before departing on loan to Scottish Premier League side Livingston earlier this month to gain experience.

Coleman has made just one league start for Town over the last two years, with that coming on the final day of the Premier League season in May 2019 as Town claimed a 1-1 draw away to Southampton.

His next appearance would also come at St Mary's as Cowley selected him to play in the FA Cup earlier this month with Grabara rested; and he was called upon to see the game out when Grabara was taken off on a stretcher in Tuesday night's 2-1 win in Hull.

Cowley said: "I thought Joel did brilliantly when he came on.

"It's never easy to come on as a number two goalkeeper in that moment. I thought it was a tough moment for us when he did come on – it was probably the period of the game that they had a head of steam and momentum, and he came on and did great.

"I thought he dealt with a couple of difficult moments and a couple of crosses, he made a really good decision to come off his line and help the back four with a ball played over the top.

"He did very well last time he played at Southampton as well, which is good.

"But around Joel we've got young goalkeepers who are nowhere near ready. We would like to get some support and some help for him if we possibly could."

Christian Atsu discussing a last minute loan move as the Newcastle United winger attracts interest from Nottingham Forest, Blackburn and Fulham over a short term deal

The winger has failed to score in 22 appearances for the Magpies this season
A host of Championship clubs are interested as are Greek side Olympiacos
Olympiacos are looking for cover after selling Daniel Podence to Wolves

Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu is discussing a loan move away from St James' Park, with a host of Championship clubs showing an interest in the Premier League player.

The 28-year-old Ghana international has garnered interest from Nottingham Forest, while Fulham and Blackburn Rovers are strongly linked.

Atsu has failed to score in 22 games for The Magpies this season, and has contributed four assists for his team-mates.

Christian Atsu is discussing a last minute loan move as the transfer deadline fast appraoches

That sort of form has seen the winger become surplus to requirements under Steve Bruce, as he looks to seal a move away from Tyneside today.

Greek side Olympiacos have also shown an interest in Atsu, after the Super League champions sold star man Daniel Podence to Wolves for £19million on Thursday and are looking for a replacement.

Atsu joined Newcastle in a £6.7million move from Chelsea in 2017, having spent the duration of his career on loan at Vitesse, Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga.

Transfer news: Danny Cowley considering drastic Huddersfield Town selection gamble

Goalkeeper situation poses big question mark about bench

Huddersfield Town manager Danny Cowley has admitted he may have to take a drastic selection gamble at Fulham.

The John Smith's Stadium boss is desperate to sign goalkeeper cover before the 11pm transfer deadline because of the sad injury news for Liverpool loan man Kamil Grabara.

The 21-year-old Polish stopper suffered a head injury, concussion and a bleed on the brain as the result of an accidental collision with teammate Christopher Schindler in the 2-1 win at Hull City.

Grabara is ruled out for at least 28 days now he's been discharged from hospital, leaving Cowley with only Joel Coleman as a senior option in goal.

Ryan Schofield and Ben Hamer are both out on loan at Livingston and Derby County respectively, so Australian youngster Jacob Chapman is next off the rank for consideration to be on the bench at Craven Cottage.

Cowley has explained that because he doesn't want to put too much pressure on Chapman, he is considering NOT having a goalkeeper on the bench at Fulham.

"We might have to. We won't go with six," said Cowley when asked if he would name a bench without a keeper.

"We've got young Jacob Chapman, who's a great kid and learning by the day. He's an Aussie boy – he's come over from Australia and left his family at a very very young age to pursue a football career. Huge admiration for that.

"He's got a real energy and enthusiasm about him, but he's just learning. Potentially we'll be able to use him on Saturday but our preference is to bring another experienced goalkeeper in.

"I'm very careful of the young players. We want to see young players playing for this football club, absolutely – you've seen since I've been here that we've had a huge amount of young players play for the team.

"But what I'm also cautious of is not setting the young players up to fail because if you do that then you can affect their careers and we wouldn't want to do that, that would be particularly unfair.

"Probably the worst thing you can do to any human being is ask them to do something they're not capable of doing, so we have to be cautious of that as well."

Kamil Grosicki: West Bromwich Albion sign Hull City's Poland winger

Kamil Grosicki has been capped 73 times at senior level by Poland

West Bromwich Albion have signed Poland winger Kamil Grosicki from fellow Championship club Hull City for an undisclosed fee on an 18-month deal.

The 31-year-old, who joined Hull in 2017, has scored seven goals this season and provided five assists.

"Kamil is one of the most consistent players I have seen," Albion's sporting and technical director Luke Dowling told the club website.

"He's always a seven-out-of-10 guy who will give you a nine as well."

The Baggies are second in the table, while Grosicki leaves the 13th-placed Tigers after making 97 league starts for the club.

Fulham defender remains on club's list for transfer deadline day – Potential €3-4m deal

Having allowed Alessandro Florenzi to leave for pastures anew in Spain, Roma could do with a new right-back before the end of the transfer window.

It's not the most urgent of matters as they have both Davide Santon and Leonardo Spinazzola who can play there, as well as Bruno Peres.

On top of that, Davide Zappacosta is expected to return from his knee injury in the coming months, but there's still belief a move could be made before the deadline, which is where Fulham's Cyrus Christie comes in.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the 27-year-old's name is one of a few on Gianluca Petrachi's list of potential targets before the end of the window.

The fee to convince Fulham is said to be around €3-4m, which isn't the biggest expense, even if Roma won't want to overspend for the role.

It's not definite, as Hellas Verona's Davide Faraoni is also an option, but there remains a chance Christie could leave Craven Cottage before the end of the day.

Fulham, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest linked with loan swoop for Newcastle winger Atsu

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Championship trio Fulham, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest are all interested in a possible loan move for Newcastle United winger Christian Atsu.

Newcastle United are keen to cut down the size of their squad before tonight's deadline and one of the players among those who have been deemed surplus to requirements by manager Steve Bruce in Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu.

And, with the Magpies keen to send Atsu out on loan, a host of Championship sides have been credited with interest in the winger. Fulham, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest have all been said keen on Atsu, while a report from Football Insider yesterday claimed that West Brom were also interested in a possible loan move for the 28-year-old.

Greek side Olympiacos have also been linked with a move for Atsu, as they look to bring in a new winger having allowed Daniel Podence to sign for Wolves.

Atsu first signed for Newcastle in the summer of 2016, joining on loan from Chelsea before helping them win promotion back to the Premier League. The club then made the deal permanent the following summer and Atsu has gone on to make 118 appearances for Newcastle, scoring eight goals and laying on nine assists.

With plenty of options out wide available to Steve Bruce – including new signing Valentino Lazaro – the Premier League side have sanctioned a loan move for Atsu to allow him to get more game time. Now, with the transfer window closing tonight, it will be interesting to see who wins the race for Atsu.

NUFC receive deadline day offers from Fulham, Nottingham Forest & Blackburn – Report

According to the Mail, THREE Championship clubs are showing late interest in Christian Atsu.

This comes from Simon Jones, who claims that Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Blackburn are all trying to complete a deadline day deal for the Ghanaian winger.

The 28-year-old is believed to be one of two or three senior players who could seal a move away from St James' Park today, with the club also aiming to move both Ki Sung-yeung and Henri Saivet on.

West Brom have also been linked, but it seems they have plenty competition from their Championship rivals – although it's not yet known if the former Chelsea man would leave on loan or on a permanent deal.

Atsu has featured 22 times this season, starting 8 times, but his place in Steve Bruce's squad is under threat following the arrivals of Valentino Lazaro and Danny Rose.

He's chipped in with 4 assists this season – a tally NO Newcastle player has bettered so far across 2019/20 – however it may suit all parties to move him on.

One to watch between now and 11pm?

Fulham Make Move For Watford Starlet

Fulham have made a loan enquiry for Watford midfielder Domingos Quina, joining league rivals West Bromwich Albion in the chase for the Portuguese, according to The Athletic.

With just hours to go before the winter transfer window slams shut, clubs are pushing hard to get last-minute deals for their targets across the line.

Interested in taking Quina on loan from Premier League side Watford, Championship club West Brom made their first step this week.

The Baggies, who are pushing for Premier League promotion, made a loan enquiry for the Portuguese midfielder on Thursday.

Now West Brom's league rivals Fulham have joined the race to sign the 20-year-old on a temporary basis.

It is understood that Fulham have become the second Championship side to make a loan enquiry for the Watford star.

The former Chelsea youth player now has two possible destinations this month, with both West Brom and Fulham making approaches.

With the clock ticking down and the transfer window nearing its end, it remains to be seen which club will the youngster end up at.

Report: Fulham join West Brom in the race to sign Watford midfielder Domingos Quina

Fulham have been very busy in the January transfer window having signed five players already this month.

The Cottagers are expected to be in the mix for the race to secure promotion to the Premier League, and are doing everything possible to assemble a good squad.

However, it seems they could still sign one more player before Friday's transfer deadline.

With the Hornets doing so well under Nigel Pearson, the young midfielder could be allowed to leave on loan.

According to Steve Madeley of the Athletic, West Brom also made a loan approach for the young midfielder, but their chances of getting him have reduced today.

Although Quina is not completely off the table, Slaven Bilic is particularly not keen on adding another midfielder before the window closes.

West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic praises Watford target Domingos Quina as Fulham reportedly make loan move

West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic has praised Domingos Quina but was coy about his interest in signing the Watford midfielder, with claims Fulham have also entered the race to take the youngster on loan.

The Baggies boss knows the 20-year-old well from their time together at West Ham and is thought to be keen on adding the Portuguese to his squad to aid their push for promotion back to the Premier League.

However, the Athletic is reporting Championship rivals Fulham have also made an approach for the player, who is available to leave Vicarage Road on a temporary basis until the end of the campaign.

In comments reported by the Birmingham Mail, Bilic said of Quina: "I love Domingos, I had him at West Ham a few years ago. Of course, he is very talented, very good.

"But we also have players like Rekeem Harper here that I expect to step up."

Fulham join race to sign PL midfielder

Fulham have entered the race to sign Watford midfielder Domingos Quina on-loan until the end of the season, reports The Athletic.

Scott Parker's side have reportedly enquired about Quina, who is also a target of West Brom's.

The Watford man is understood to be available for a loan-move today, and the Championship is said to be the preferred the choice of the club's.

The 20-year-old midfielder joined Watford from West Ham United in August 2018. He'd spent time in the youth academies of Benfica, Chelsea and West Ham and was hailed as a 'wonderkid' under Slaven Bilic at the latter, with Arsenal once lining-up a move for the Portuguese.

Quina has represented Portugal at U17 through to U20 level, but has made just one league appearance for the Hornets this season, after making a handful last time round.

Fulham have had a hugely impressive transfer window – they finalised the singing of Michael Hector from Chelsea on New Year's Day, which was soon followed by the permanent signing of Ivan Cavaleiro.

Bobby Reid then made his loan-move from Cardiff permanent, with Jordan Archer signing on a free from Oxford United and Terrence Kongolo coming in on-loan from Huddersfield.

Fulham have a heap of players on-loan but with Cavaleiro and Reid making their stays permanent, it frees up a loan-space for Parker to bring in another name.

The verdict

Fulham look set for the second-half of the season now. Parker is keen to bring in more Premier League quality with Quina, and it's a singing that'd excited fans.

West Brom could pip them to the singing though, with Bilic's previous connections to Quina. It's a deal that Parker should try and make happen to ensure he has enough numbers for the rest of the campaign, and cement his side's promotion credentials.

Exclusive: Fulham plot last-gasp raid to sign Birmingham City 25-yr-old

Fulham are keen on signing left back Kristian Pedersen from their Championship rivals Birmingham City ahead of tonight's transfer deadline, Football Insider understands.

Joe Bryan has been Scott Parker's undisputed first choice on the left hand side of the defence this season, but there's precious little competition for the Englishman at Craven Cottage.

A Fulham source has told Football Insider that the Whites like the look of Pedersen, 25, but that they'd need to offload a player within the coming hours to sign him.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week that Premier League outfit Watford have made an approach to sign Pedersen, only to be rebuffed because they didn't offer enough to entice the Blues.

It remains to be seen whether the Cottagers can stump up the cash Birmingham want, but either way they'd need to offload someone first.

Pedersen has been a regular starter for Pep Clotet's side this campaign, making 31 appearances in all competitions and scoring three times.

Football Insider also revealed earlier this month that Southampton were sniffing around Bryan, so perhaps Parker sees Pedersen as a potential successor to his starting left back.

Fulham are very much pushing for promotion back to the top flight this term and currently sit in fourth spot, four points off the automatic promotion places.

Birmingham, on the contrary, are sat down in 18th and, while it doesn't look like there's much chance of relegation, they don't have a whole lot left to play for.

In other Fulham news, Football Insider can reveal that a European side have opened talks over a pre-contract agreement with a Whites midfielder.

Interest increases in West Brom linked midfielder Domingos Quina

West Brom transfer news - The chances of Albion making any more additions hangs in the balance at this moment, but one player they have been linked with is midfielder Domingos Quina

Fulham have entered the race for Watford midfielder Domingos Quina.

The youngster is expected to leave Vicarage Road on a loan basis before tonight's transfer deadline with a number of Championship clubs - including West Brom- understood to be interested in taking him.

The Cottagers, reports the Athletic, are the latest to show an interest.

Albion boss Slaven Bilic worked with Quina at West Ham United previously, and was asked about the strength of his interest at his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

"I love Domingos, I had him at West Ham a few years ago," Bilic said. "Of course, he is very talented, very good.

"But we also have players like Rekeem Harper here that I expect to step up."

Any more business regarding incomings at The Hawthorns before the 11pm deadline is in the balance, however, and now it has emerged that Championship rivals Fulham have weighed in with an offer to Watford of their own.

Albion could be in the market for another midfielder, especially if Chris Brunt was to be offered an opportunity by Stoke City.

The Northern Irishman has been linked with a move to the Potters, where his former Northern Ireland boss Michael O'Neill is now in charge.

Brunt is into the final few months of his Albion contract, and with a lack of game time at The Hawthorns likely, a spell in Staffordshire could prove attractive.

Fulham plot late swoop for Championship defender

Fulham are lining-up a bid for Birmingham City's Kristian Pedersen, reports Football Insider.

Pedersen, 25, has played 31 games in all competitions for Birmingham this season, scoring three goals.

According to Football Insider, Fulham are keen on bringing the left-back to Craven Cottage before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight, but they'd need to offload a player in order to do so.

The only Fulham player to be linked with a move away from the Cottage this month is Joe Bryan.

The left-back has been linked with moves to both Watford and Southampton this month, and Fulham boss Scott Parker could be lining-up Pedersen as a replacement for Bryan should he depart in the final few hours of the window.

Watford are also said to be interested in Pedersen, having had an approach for the Dane knocked back last week.

It'd be Fulham's sixth signing of the transfer window, with their most notable additions being the permanent signings of both Ivan Cavaleiro from Wolves and Bobby Reid from Cardiff.

Pedersen is a fine Championship player and one who'd give Bryan good competition if he stayed, but would also be an ideal replacement for him if he headed to the Premier League.

The verdict

He won't come cheap or easy, but Fulham have a good few hours to pursue Pedersen if they wish.

It's likely all down to the future of Bryan though – should he be heading for the door then Fulham will have to step-up their pursuit of the Birmingham man and fast, as to not be left short-handed come tomorrow.

Fulham vs Huddersfield Town: Juninho Bacuna provides food for thought

Danny Cowley admission on versatile midfielder playing as stand-in full-back

Danny Cowley admits Juninho Bacuna has given him food for thought in the Huddersfield Town right-back position.

The Curacao international has netted five goals this season from midfield and been a regular in manager Cowley's Championship matchday squads this season.

With regular No2 Danny Simpson sidelined by a contact injury, Bacuna was slotted in at right-back against Hull City and impressed in the 2-1 victory at the KCOM Stadium.

It seems the 22-year-old is likely to continue there against Fulham, too, even though Cowley has confirmed Simpson has been back in training at PPG Canalside.

Asked what he thought of Bacuna at right-back, Cowley answered: "I think he gives you a real attacking threat from right-back.

"He gives you real power on the overlap, he's a ball-carrier, he's great at taking a space, he has a wonderful end product.

"If you look at the Hull game from an offensive perspective he set up the first goal for Karlan with a great piece of play; he put a wonderful cross in for Kache at the back post that their goalkeeper made a superb save from; he had a great shot just before we scored the winning goal which the keeper made a terrific save from as well.

"Defensively I thought he grew into it and did better and better as the game went on. He was playing against one of the best wingers in the league in Kamil Grosicki and I thought second half in particular he did a really good job against him."

Birmingham City's Championship rivals linked with key defender - report

Birmingham City have already repelled a Hornets bid for Pedersen because it did not match their valuation

Fulham have emerged as late contenders for Birmingham City's Kristian Pedersen, according to reports.

Website Football Insider claims Blues' Championship rivals are looking for competition for regular left back Joe Bryan.

But the report says Fulham would first have to offload a player to make way for a full back who is a contender to be Blues' Player of the Season.

They cite a Fulham source suggesting Scott Parker 'likes the look of Pedersen'.

The suggestion creates an interesting drama triangle with Watford having earmarked the Dane as second on their list of left back options - behind Bryan.

Blues have already repelled a Hornets bid for Pedersen because it did not match their valuation.

Therefore the chances of Fulham selling a player then outbidding Premier League Watford in the final few hours must seem remote.

There is no suggestion Pedersen, who has started every one of Blues' Championship matches, wants to leave St Andrew's.

Certainly Pep Clotet has no desire to see Blues cash in on one of their main assets.

Asked about the prospect of losing Pedersen in his Thursday press conference the head coach said:

"Of course I want Kristian Pedersen in this team, for us Kristian is massive.

"Kristian is top three in the Championship as a left back and his performances this season are far better than his performances last season.

"He didn't struggle to adapt last season because he had been in Germany but in my opinion he was not as secure or as dominant.

"He turned himself into a dominant player, dangerous offensively helping us to start attacks, goals, assists, importance in set-plays - all of his defensive skills have been developing this season.

"It is very difficult to see a mistake from Kristian Pedersen, he took a step forward in his performances and he did that thanks to the environment, thanks to the staff, thanks to the other players - thanks to himself being very focused."
