NFR The Music Thread

079.gifWith thanks to the comment from RaySmith on another topic, it's high time we resurrected the Friday Music Thread!!

Even if it is Thursday night.

I'll kick things off - I've resurrected my love for all things Gary Numan. His last two albums, "Savage" and "Splinter", are the best he's ever done, and he did a live gig at the Royal Albert Hall in late 2018 which was absolutely top drawer. Actually found it on YouTube:

His Brother in Law was my Guitar tutor, which i found out when I asked My tutor what the Chords etc are for Cars..
Apparently his sister was a fan who met Numan backstage and they then began dating.
Strangely though my tutors other brother in law was Wolf from gladiators.

Watching a film last night they played David Bowie's 'Rock & roll with me'.  Had never heard this song before & love it.

On holiday in a small Spanish town earlier this year I popped into the ‘cultural centre’ one evening to see a concert by someone called Richard Ray Farrell. Had never heard of him but his biography sounded interesting and it was only 8 euros. What a guitarist!

The  two great performances above, made me link to the great Jackson Browne's The Pretender, performed here with Crosby, Stills and Nash-

Was going to put this in 'the best live performances' thread - some great performances and memories posted there)  -Janis Joplin at Monterey-

Which links me to another favourite. Leonard Cohen's story of his liaison with janis Joplin , Chelsea hotel, live with a nice spoken intro.

Finally, for a bit of football related positivity, Hibs fans singing Sunshine on Leith after beating Rangers in the  Scottish Cup Final. Love this - seems to capture the essence of supporting a team-

Probably not for this board but if you like a heavier sort of music, Dance Gavin Dance are very good.

Good music gang. I don't know how to put a YouTube clip on here. Not smart enough. But I've been a serious James Taylor fan most of my life , travelled to many US cities just for his concerts. If one of you clever people can put one on here I'd appreciate . Spending my day listening at home due over 70 category.

1500.gifA personal favourite of mine is the Donovan song ‘Lalena’ performed by Deep Purple and recorded here at a BBC radio session.

I have not listened to these guys in years! Loved that kind of stuff back in my emo days. If you want something heavier but totally epic, then check out Parkway Drive.

On a slightly different note, Defected Records are doing a virtual festival today

Richard Hawley, such a talented singer/songwriter.

Saw him at Brighton Dome last October. One of the best gigs I’ve been to in a while.

Dr Feelgood - The More I Give, Cheque Book, Back in the Night, Another Man, Down at the Doctors, Sneakin Suspicion.

Otherwise it’s Status Quo and where do I start?
