Southampton to go down this season?

If he's still there, Redmond is also quality.

To answer the OP, yes I reckon they'll be in or around the bottom 3 this season.

I get the impression there's disharmony around the manager which is the hallmark of a team in trouble.

Southampton this year reek of our relegation year in 2013. A team in the PL that for a few seasons were just sneaking by while the rot festered.
Someone once asked me, "Why Fulham?".
My response, "Well, lad, you just haven't seen the light yet"

Whitestone

It's hard to say who will struggle while the transfer window is open. If Southampton sell Ings and Palace sell Zaha the odds on either being relegated will change.

I'm not sure where the squad being upset with manager etc come from, they seem fine, just frustrated by a typical gritty counter attacking Hodgeson outfit. Weirdly enough, they desperately need a CB, Vestergaard is, in the eyes of a lot of their supporters, the Le Marchand of Southampton. I think Saints will be fine, around 11th-15th happily as long as they keep Ings. Che Adams has looked much, much better as times goes on and they have good pacey widemen. I expect them to strengthen in this window too so I wouldn't be quick to write them off yet.

WestBrom and WestHam look way worse on bother paper and on the field and on form.

Can't see it. I think they'll beat Spurs this weekend. They had the majority of the possession, plenty of shots on goal and more shots on target than Palace, last weekend.
Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Maybe I'm reading too much into small things. Lemina obviously didn't want to work with him. Ings seems to want out. He was very critical of his players yesterday, saying they'd allowed their fitness to drop in the close season.

Maybe, or you might well be right, I just haven't seen anything. Does Ings want out? I thought he was happy after an interview recently where he said he loved playing for the team he loves etc. As for Lemina, I get the impression it was two big personalities and only one winner....

kane and son have been different gravy today. Doubt they will come up against an attack playing as well as those two did again this season. But yes they could be in the mix with us.
CHRIS MARTIN IS SO BAD,  WE NOW PRAISE HIM FOR MAKING A RUN.

They've been poor today. Spurs looked poor last weekend and I fancied Southampton today but they've been way off the pace in the second half. Son has been immense. Still think Southampton will be fine.

This thread aged well 🤣😂😁😃

Yes a week in football is a long time let alone a month, and two months is an eternity.
It's a funny old game. Where are they in the League today ? It's good to see other team share the summit even it is only for 24 hours, let's hope Fulham can get a result today, we are capable and we do really need to pick up points wherever we play.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Simply can't tell with them.

They let Leicester beat them 9-0 last season, yet after that game went on a good run of form.

Yes...they will be in the relegation battle with us...as will West Brom, Leeds, Villa and West Ham.

The way the media keep going on about Leeds and Bielsa I expect them to win the league by at least 20 points! They lost to Hull tonight! I bet that wont be headlining tomorrow

My wish list for relegation, Leeds, West Ham and Aston Villa.

Notice  I said 'I don't' at the top, I don't think they will do a Leicester either, plum 'midtable'. What they have created is team spirit and playing to their strengths. Everyone knows what Ings brings, Ward - Prowse, etc bring. They get the ball up the pitch quickly.

Find me the pundit who at the beginning of the season would have even hinted that Shef. U. would be bottom and Southampton top of the premier league.

Starting to get annoyed with these cycles of massive overreaction and/or WUM "I told you so" comments when predictions momentarily look wrong. The league table means very little at the moment. The big teams are all over the place and it's still the start of the season, so if anyone else can put a couple of b2b wins together they look like they could "do a Leicester". Think we've had these sorts of posts about Leeds, Villa and Southampton so far. As others have pointed out we can go above Man Utd with certain (albeit unlikely) results today. If that happens I look forward to reading that we're going to win the league.

Is that directed at me?

Saints were never going to be relegation candidates though so I think some egg on face bantering is fine here!

Exhibit A

If they're still in the top 6 in May then by all means come back to this thread
