It's his mental health I fear for.  It is hard to imagine how tough it must be for a top professional to see their career gradually fading away due to no fault of their own.  It must be so frustrating, I really feel for the guy and hope he comes back stronger.

keithh

....and he was doing so well, fans loved him.

Sadly some players are just injury prone.

Prior to joining us, he really wasn't.
4 seasons of entirely uninterrupted football- 188 games without missing one for an injury.

Then he had an op which maybe did damage to the knee.

WestSussexWhite

He's basically got no cartilage left in his knee which was the op he had when he joined us. He had cartilage repair but they had to remove so much he's basically got none left

Feel bad for him. I actually rate him. Couldn't understand why we loaned out a player who is better than Ream and MLM. Now I think I understand. I knew he was injury prone but at this point I'm thinking our medical staff probably assessed the fact that he's a tackle away from injury every time he steps on the pitch and for that reason he will probably never be a worthy asset unfortunately. Hope he recovers soon though obviously.
Not quite sure why you consider him to be better then Tim Ream, one of our longest serving, solidest, players over the the past 6 years, by far our best player the season we got promoted under Slavisia

That's loyalty for you

Also did you watch Mawson play the season we signed him ? Was responsible for many mishaps at the back and was dropped for many games due to his lack of consistency

I'd take Tim Ream all day over him

Personally I'd agree with you based strictly on their FFC appearances only, although I'm not sure we ever saw the best of Mawson in a Fulham shirt.  However I don't think this thread is about who was the better defender(and I appreciate you were only responding to JEEVES so not a dig at you), I think this is a thread sympathising with his plight.

I'm just going to copy-paste this from the official EFL records on Tim Ream for those who obviously don't go to games and have no real idea what they're talking about

15/16 - woeful pairing with the equally poor Stearman, ultimately Dan Burn was our best CB
16/17 - improved but still bang average, Kalas was our best CB
17/18 - Ream's one good season, but he still only won PotY because Mitrovic was only with us for a half season and everyone was sick of voting for Cairney
18/19 - back to being woeful, but again surrounded by equally poor defenders
19/20 - back to being average, Hector our best CB

FulhamStu

Poor guy but it makes Fulham's decision to loan him a good one.  Tony Khan got this one right, not that many will agree because he does not know what he is doing !!!

BarryP

Sorry to hear it.  I was hoping he could have a strong season and avoid another injury which at a minimum will seriously hurt his future prospects.

Sorry Statto but as this is a cut and paste you are saying that the official EFL records state that: in 17/18 "he only won PotY because Mitro was only with us for a half season and everyone was sick of voting for Cairney". Seriously, you c & p'd that from the official EFL records?

Jims Dentist

Given his dreadful injury record for us, it was hardly rocket science by TK to loan him out, merely common sense.

midlandwhites

Lets hope for a speedy recovery , just bad luck and can happen to anyone.

A stopped clock is right twice a day!😂

Mawson has had a scan and sees a specialist Monday. Hopefully ok but not looking good.

G_Gribby

His knee is his Achilles' heel.

Poor chap.
Only Sweden has Swedish gooseberries.

sarnian

Mawson has had another knee op and there is no timescale as to when and if he will return.

How did he pass our original medical. I imagine we will have insurance on him if he is forced to retire.

He hadn't had half the issues he's got now when he signed. The injury he had when he first signed was his first big injury

Carborundum

Poor lad, I know that playing football is a joy, playing it well unimaginably so.  He's been denied so much opportunity to play my heart goes out to him.  Forget the money for a moment, time is the truly scarce commodity.

sarnian

Seems Steve Sess is also injured with hamstring problems.

If this is true no wonder he's always getting injured...
