Tosh Chamberlain: 1934-2021

Everyone at Fulham was devastated to learn of the passing of Club icon Tosh Chamberlain.

The effervescent Tosh – real name Trevor – passed away this morning aged 86.

Chamberlain, a lively forward, spent 11 seasons with the Whites during the 1950s and 60s, hitting 64 goals in 204 appearances.

After scoring with the first touch of his Fulham career in a 3-2 win over Lincoln City, he was part of the teams which reached the 1958 FA Cup Semi-Final against Manchester United and won promotion to the top flight in 1959.

Chamberlain possessed an absolute rocket of a shot, but the power delivered in his strikes would sometimes come at the expense of accuracy!

His powerful kicks created a legacy at Craven Cottage, with a mistimed corner kick snapping a flag in two, and a backpass to Tony Macedo resulting in the goalkeeper suffering broken ribs.

Fulham folklore also tells of Tosh occasionally sneaking a cigarette on the bench, or from a supporter if the ball was up the other end of the pitch.

Tosh was a lifelong friend of Whites legend Johnny Haynes following their time together in the local school district teams, and is credited as being one of the major reasons why Haynes joined the Club.

Chamberlain had brief spells with Dover Athletic and Gravesend & Northfleet after leaving SW6, but was a regular visitor to the Cottage ever since.

Tosh still had a lot of friends at Fulham and remained in the hearts of every fan who saw him play.

The thoughts of us all are now with Tosh's wife Margaret, sons Steve and John, granddaughter Terri-Anne, as well as the wider family and friends of one of Fulham Football Club's most popular ever characters.

Rest in peace, Tosh Chamberlain

We wanted to send our condolences to the friends and family of former Fulham forward Tosh Chamberlain, who sadly passed away this morning.

Tosh quickly became a popular figure amongst his team mates at Craven Cottage and made a dream start in the first team, scoring with his very first touch in a Fulham shirt in a win against Lincoln City. He was part of the Fulham side that reached the 1958 FA Cup semi-final, where they were beaten by Manchester United, and helped the Whites win promotion to the top flight the following year. He also made a massive impact on the club's history by persuading his good friend Johnny Haynes to choose Fulham over the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur when a young Haynes was considering his first move in the game.

Renowned for a powerful shot and an accurate cross, Chamberlain was a cult hero amongst the Fulham faithful. In eleven seasons with the club, Tosh made 204 appearances, scoring 64 goals. He was a frequent visitor to Craven Cottage after his playing career ended and enjoyed swapping stories with supporters and talking about all things Fulham. If ever there was a character who summed up the club's unique identity, it was probably Tosh. Our thoughts are with Tosh's family at this very difficult time.

Tariq Lamptey could be missing for more than 5 matches including Brighton's clash with Fulham

Exciting full-back Tariq Lamptey has suffered an injury set back and could miss Brighton's next 5 matches including bout with Fulham.

Lamptey out

Tariq Lamptey has missed Brighton's last four Premier League games with an injury, with further bad news regarding the full-back's fitness having emerged today. Lamptey is now set to be out for 'several weeks' more.

The Athletic's Andy Naylor has confirmed: "Brighton will be without Tariq Lamptey (hamstring) for several more weeks after a setback in his recovery. The pacey right-wingback has already missed the last four Premier League fixtures."

"Brighton play five league fixtures in three weeks in their fight against relegation after tonight's FA Cup tie at Newport. The sequence, starting at Man City on Wednesday, ends at Liverpool. The challenging run also includes games against Leeds, fellow strugglers Fulham and Tottenham."

Potter confirms injury setback

Seagulls boss Graham Potter, meanwhile, explained: "On the back end of his rehab, he just felt the hamstring. He will probably have to take a couple of steps back, which is disappointing for us and for him."

In his absence, Potter has opted to utilise centre-backs Joel Veltman and Ben White in Lamptey's role. Brighton are currently in the midst of one of the worst runs in the Premier League, with just one win from their last 16 matches across all competitions.

The January window is open, and the Seagulls could opt to bring in some necessary backup. On the left, for example, Bernardo is the only natural option, meaning a versatile addition could prove useful to cover both flanks. Solly March, a winger by trade, has operated on the left of a back-5 as a wing-back option for Potter.

Neeskens Kebano calls for Fulham to build on FA Cup victory

Neeskens Kebano believes Fulham can build on their FA Cup win at QPR and maintain their bid for Premier League survival.

The Cottagers are now unbeaten in five matches in all competitions after goals from Bobby Decordova-Reid and fellow substitute Kebano saw off their west London neighbours 2-0 after extra-time.

Winger Kebano has started only one Premier League match so far this season so he was delighted to grab his chance in the cup.

"I need some games so the opportunity to play in the FA Cup was good, first of all because we won," he told Fulham TV.

"I just wanted to be able to bring my quality and show what I can bring to the team.

"The lads were smiling after the game and it's something we can build on. There were some opportunities for the ones who don't play a lot and it's good to have some minutes in the tank."

Championship Rangers' lack of ruthlessness in front of goal was laid bare as they squandered a host of presentable chances across the 90 minutes.

Shortly after the final whistle they announced the signing of former Loftus Road favourite Charlie Austin, and there could be more to come.

"It's about the squad. We are very light in terms of the squad," said manager Mark Warburton.

"You saw young guys coming on as subs so the squad is exceptionally light and we need to add some freshness to it, some experience as well, so we will do that and hopefully we're very close."

Eberechi Eze: FA to probe Crystal Palace winger's attendance at QPR vs Fulham FA Cup tie

FA investigating after Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze was an invited guest to QPR's third-round FA Cup tie against Fulham; Eze complied with Covid protocols and returned a negative Covid test prior to attending

Eberechi Eze's visit to his former club QPR on Saturday for their FA Cup third-round tie against Fulham is being investigated by the Football Association.

The winger, who joined Crystal Palace from QPR for £20m in the summer, sat in the directors' box at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium as Rangers were beaten 2-0 in extra-time by Fulham.

It is understood that Eze was an invited guest of QPR for the tie, with his attendance conditional on him complying with Covid-19 protocols and returning a negative coronavirus test. He complied with all of these.

The FA has told Sky Sports News it will be looking into Eze's attendance and the governing body has stated that, contrary to some reports, it did not grant the 22-year-old approval to go to the game.

Eze was pictured not wearing a facemask as he watched his old team slip to a defeat.

QPR boss Mark Warburton said: "I've no idea whether he broke protocols or not. You'd have to ask our health and safety officer because that's above my pay-grade.

"I want to talk about the game. What other players do in their own time, I can't comment on that. It's not my area of expertise. Far from it."

Sky Sports News has contacted Crystal Palace and QPR for further comment.

Palace boss Roy Hodgson this week made it clear to his players that no further breaches of Government coronavirus guidelines will be accepted after captain Luka Milivojevic breached the rules on New Year's Eve.

Milivojevic issued an apology on Wednesday after his household mixed with Fulham forward Aleksandar Mitrovic and his family.

Kebano urges Fulham to build on Cup win

Fulham winger Neeskens Kebano has urged the Whites to use their FA Cup victory over Queens Park Rangers as a springboard to further success when they return to Premier League action later this week.

The DR Congo international made a real impact off the bench in Shepherd's Bush and scored a lovely second goal that ended QPR's brave resistance in extra time yesterday. Kebano, who has made just one league start all season, was delighted to have offered a timely reminder to Fulham boss Scott Parker of what he can offer.

He told Fulham's official website:

I need some games so the opportunity to play in the FA Cup was good, first of all because we won. I just wanted to be able to bring my quality and show what I can bring to the team. The lads were smiling after the game and it's something we can build on. There were some opportunities for the ones who don't play a lot and it's good to have some minutes in the tank.

Premier League consider rescheduling Tottenham vs Fulham after Aston Villa Covid outbreak
Tottenham are due to face Aston Villa on Wednesday but it remains unclear whether the Premier League fixture will go ahead.

The Premier League are reportedly considering rescheduling Tottenham's postponed clash with Fulham this Wednesday, with Spurs' game with Aston Villa now in doubt due to a Covid-19 outbreak at the Midlands club. Jose Mourinho's side are due to travel to Villa Park on Wednesday but are yet to receive any confirmation that the game won't be going ahead.

Villa were forced to shut down their training ground at Bodymoor Heath last week as the virus spread through their first team.

Up to 14 members of their squad and staff tested positive, forcing the rest of the team into a period of isolation.

Yet the club were forced to field a youth team in the FA Cup against Liverpool on Friday as the Reds ran out 4-1 winners despite a spirited effort from the youngsters.

That's unlikely to happen again this week for the game against Tottenham with first-team training cancelled until further notice.

The Premier League are expected to confirm that the game won't be going ahead at some point today.

According to The Athletic, talks are underway to reschedule Spurs' home clash with Fulham for this Wednesday despite the short period of notice.

The game, which was cancelled on the day (December 30) just hours before kick-off, was a major talking point and saw the Premier League criticised for their lack of organisation by Spurs boss Mourinho.

Fulham's trip to Burnley was also later cancelled following further positive tests in Scott Parker's camp.

Now the Cottagers are reportedly fuming that they're being lined up for a game against Tottenham at such short notice.

After Tottenham's 5-0 win in the FA Cup at Non-League minnows Marine, Mourinho explained that he would prepare to face Aston Villa as normal, until told otherwise.

He said: "Nobody told me that I'm not going to play so [on Monday morning] we start to prepare for that game, and the same Tuesday unless somebody tells us different."

The Portuguese recently raised concerns as to how his side will complete all of their fixtures, with Tottenham still fighting for silverware on four different fronts.

Mourinho said: "I believe it is an impossible situation for a club to have three matches postponed, especially if that club plays in Europe.

"For a Europa League team to have three matches postponed is completely impossible, that is the only thing I can say.

"It is for the Premier League to make decisions, if we don't play against Aston Villa we will have three matches postponed and that is impossible because it would need the Euros to get moved and that is not going to happen."

Tottenham certainly enjoyed the magic of the FA Cup on Sunday evening as they ran riot in Crosby.

Carlos Vinicius fired a hat-trick to remind Mourinho of his quality while Lucas Moura and Alfie Devine were also on target for the Premier League side, on a momentous occasion for football.

Discussions taking place to move Chelsea's next fixture vs Fulham

Breaking news this Monday morning surrounds Chelsea's next fixture vs Fulham, currently scheduled for this Friday the 15th of January.

As revealed by The Athletic, the Premier League are currently in discussions with a number of clubs over moving and re-scheduling a few fixtures this week as a result of Covid-19 outbreaks.

Which players could be leaving Chelsea this month? Find out here!

The game of football dominos looks like we could see the league postponing Aston Villa's home match against Tottenham on Wednesday and replacing it with the fixture between Tottenham and Fulham that was called off on December the 30th.

Villa had an outbreak of Covid-19 and their next fixture in 2 days time is now in doubt.

As a result, Fulham's match vs Chelsea on Friday night could now be pushed to Saturday in order to help ease the possible congestion that Fulham could now face.

It is all rather up in the air at this point and will be dependent on a number of things.

Tottenham could play Fulham on Wednesday instead of Covid-hit Aston Villa with Premier League scrambling to solve mounting fixture pile-up by slotting in rearranged clash

Aston Villa had to put out youngsters in FA Cup defeat by Liverpool on Saturday
Covid-19 outbreak at club has put Wednesday's Premier League clash in doubt
Villa are due to play Tottenham but Spurs could now take on Fulham instead
Fixture between Spurs and Fulham was postponed on December 30 last year

Tottenham could face Fulham in a rearranged Premier League game on Wednesday, rather than take on Covid-hit Aston Villa.

Spurs are scheduled to play Dean Smith's side, who were forced to field youngsters in their 4-1 defeat by Liverpool in the FA Cup at the weekend.

But the Premier League are proposing a solution to give Villa time to sort out their Covid-19 issues while also providing Spurs with a fixture, according to the Athletic.

Spurs overcame Marine in the FA Cup on Sunday but still do not know who to prepare for

They could replace the Villa Park encounter by having Spurs host Fulham instead, thereby fulfilling a game that was postponed on December 30.

The situation has come about as Villa's first team are in isolation after 14 positive tests were returned and they will need to be quarantined until this Friday.

The Cottagers are understood to be unhappy at the proposed change having gone to extra time in the FA Cup on Saturday and the fact that they are due to play Chelsea on Friday, which may yet be pushed to Saturday.

Scott Parker's men have been told to ready themselves for a Wednesday game against Spurs but as it stands, the Premier League have not made a firm decision.

And when Jose Mourinho was asked about the situation following his side's 5-0 win over Marine, he insisted he was preparing to face Villa, telling Sky Sports: 'Nobody told me that I'm not going to play so [on Monday morning] we start to prepare for that game, and the same Tuesday unless somebody tells us different.'

On Friday he had said: 'It's the moment for the Premier League to show leadership, to make decisions. A club like us is trying everything every day to be ready to play, to follow the rules we have in our hands.

'We cannot be punished. If we don't play against Aston Villa, that will be three matches postponed, and that will be impossible.

'After the season we have the Euros [due to begin on June 11], and of course the Euros are not going to be moved. I believe it is an impossible situation for a club to have three matches postponed, especially if that club plays in Europe.'

Scott Parker's Fulham may be forced to fulfill their postponed fixture with Spurs this week

In total, four Premier League games have so far been postponed. Spurs missed a game against Newcastle and Fulham's games with the London club and Burnley were also off along with Manchester City's trip to Everton.

The hectic winter schedule is already putting a significant strain on players and rearranged fixtures are proving to be a major headache for the Premier League.

Given that Fulham and Spurs already missed playing each other, Wednesday may be seen as the best solution to fulfilling the game, despite the Cottagers' protestations.
