It seems Peterborough want 15 m for Dembele and we only want to pay 10m. Will the player now twist somebody's arm to force a move into the prem? Watch this space.

£15m for a League One striker? They're having a laugh.

Interesting actually but one of our players looks to be the most expensive transfer from league one in Lookman when he joined Everton for £11m. So I guess with the inflated market since then its not unreasonable for clubs to ask for that much....

It's the 27th Jan, so Dembele costs £15m as he has the big clubs looking at him.
Many Big Clubs would be considering paying £15m, but most likely they will pass.
Wait until late 31st Jan, and if he is still available then he'll cost less than £7.5m.

Yeah agree. I would wait on this one. Looks like an exciting player but no guarantee he can step up to play at such a high level.

But if he turns out a success like Lookman, and  can score goals to keep us up, then he will have been well worth whatever he costs.

Wait and see if the price goes  down - isn't that what TK and the club are being attacked for?

Tony Khan has signed XI players early in the summer window, and every time it was a mistake to buy that early because we should have waited longer for a better option to become available. Since TK is DOF, we have paid double or triple the price when buying early with almost no exceptions, TK is best on deadline day he should stick with that.

Lookman has played at a high level for several years, Dembele hasn't. Not saying we shouldn't sign him, just that we shouldn't pay a premium to get him a day or two early.

Brian Talbot said that FFC would not bid for Dembele in January window.

FulhamStu

£5 M yes, £15 M, no way.

RaySmith

But IF he was a successful goalscorer  for us it  would be worth the money to make sure we got him wouldn't it?
TK has often been criticised for holding back on signings waiting for the  price to drop, then losing them.

But, as said, it's only a couple of days now to deadline day, and Talbot has said we're  not bidding for him this window anyway apparently.

Siriki Dembele is a League 1 player who's contract runs out in 5 months time. There is zero chance of him being sold for 15 million. It depends if Peterborough need to sell or are happy to let him walk for free at the end of June. I can't see them making much more than 2 million on him this window. I say that based on a similar price being quoted for Demerari Gray who's contract also expires at the same time.

And predominantly a winger who scores 1:6 games. If we get relegated he'd be a menace no doubt but we need a striker

We have not been too successful when spending big money on players, I think we would be wise to hold off on this one.
Of course the big question that has to be answered is does Parker and the coaching staff think Dembelle 3 is clearly better than Mitro and Kamara.

Almost no exceptions... except loads of exceptions

They rate him more highly than Ivan Toney who they sold for 10 million, they said this a few months back. They got 10 million i think for Toney.

The hard thing is we have no income other than TV and march I guess, so what covers salaries and other outgoings. Surely that would reduce what we have to spend and also impact on FFP even over the 3 year rolling period. It all must have an impact and maybe thats why we are reluctant to spend money as it may not be there come the season end.

Just speculating on that part

And if we go down as a result of no forwards for the Brighton and WBA games, how much will that cost?

If we were comforatbly mid table your argument woiuld probably be correct, wait for the bargain, butthat is not our situation  we are in a desparate state. Igf dembele turns out to be the right man, we should have got him in already even if we had to pay a bit over the odds. That is if survival is top of the priority list.

We constantly hear about FFP... but firstly it is like some dark art and never seems to apply to certain clubs who have gotten away with it for years...  but also because of the lack of revenue from fans walking through the gate but teams wages bill not dropping etc, FFP has to either be suspended or that lack of revenue taken into account surely???
