Carvalho being chased by super-agent Jorge Mendes

Interesting to know the size of the agents fee, would Liverpool and say Spurs pay the same amount.

Stoneleigh Loyalist

How much will he want from Fulham for negotiating a contract extension?

It's not looking good for our hopes of keeping him. That will be the second player in recent memory to leave on a free after just a handful of games for us, after Elliott. So frustrating and demoralizing for the fans.

Just to say that Elliot did not leave on a free. In fact, he was sold by tribunal for the largest ever fee for a 16 year old.

We've pocketed a couple of mill already, will probably get another mill and then a further 1.5m if he gets an International call.

We also get a 20% sell. For a lad we nicked from QPR and had for about two years, that's not too shabby.

"demoralizing for the fans"

Disappointing, yes, but not demoralising.

It is a fact of football life that the top clubs can buy players such as Carv. because the money is relatively insignificant to them, and clubs like us need to be hard-headed and not over-pay to seek to retain.

For every dozen young "stars" who go to the bigger clubs early, how many really succeed? We've seen some who haven't, like Patrick Roberts, Emerson Hyndman and, arguably, Ryan Sess. Maybe all three flattered to deceive at Fulham. Maybe if they had stayed, they would have developed into good premiership players. Who knows.

At the moment Carv. can't even get into our starting eleven. What chance does he have of holding down a starting place at the likes of Liverpool?

If he stays, great. If he doesn't, no surprise. In four years time he might be a star at Liverpool or similar. Or more probably in my view on yet another loan spell to Cardiff or somewhere similar.

Oakeshott talks a lot of sense.

For any young player breaking into our team, I recommend applying the LVC test.  Are they really any more sensational than Lasse Vigen Christenson was in the year he emerged?  Ryan Sessegnon, with his cat-like reflexes, was. Pat Roberts and Harvey Elliott weren't, at least to my eyes.  Carvalho about on a par in my estimation.  I liked LVC and I like Carvalho.

If the club can make a decent return with the chance for extra's they should just move on.  Players come, players go.

He did leave on a free, it's just that the rules stipulate Liverpool need to pay some sort of fee. However he ran down his contract and left at the end, hence he left on a free.

The fact it was the largest ever fee is neither here nor there, the fact is he is good enough to start for Liverpool and we only got a couple of million for him.

Elliott is impressing at Liverpool and impressed at Blackburn, so was clearly good enough.

Carvalho so far has looked absolute quality, albeit a small sample size. He's not getting in the team because we're on a winning streak, doesn't mean he's no better than Reid, he clearly is.

I always thought LVC was not as good as some made out. Played well in that awful season that started with Felix but that team or squad was plain awful and you did not have to be that good to shine in that team. Had we not signed Ross who was by far our best player we would in all honesty probably been relegated.
Roberts is/was very good technically but it was a big ask for him in The Championship and with struggling team. If say he was in the current team or even Slavs team he would of done well. Elliott we probably did not see enough of in first team. Carvalho looks like he could be the best of these youngsters by some distance. His technique and awareness is very good plus he scores goals just what you want for a player in that position.

Denver Fulham

I thought we have a reasonable relationship with Mendes? Wasn't that touted when we signed Cavaleiro a couple years back?

I wonder if this could somehow lead to a more beneficial outcome for us, whether Fab stays or not.

filham

If Carvalho's contract runs until the summer but two or three clubs are reportedly  jockeying to sign him and thinking he is so good then surely they will not want to wait until the summer for fear of losing him. Under these circumstances with competition for his signature surely they will be prepared to pay a fee.

The best thing that can happen for us is a club who wants him bids in January.... For example if Spurs bid £8 million but Cav turns them down because he has already decided to go to another team in England I can't see how a tribunal could give us any less than £8 million.

You say that, just ask West Brom, they accepted an 11 million pound bid from Palace for Nathan Ferguson, however, failed the medical and therefore palace signed him for free 6 months later. This was recently heard at tribunal and they were given 900k....

Que Sera Sera.
If he leaves, he'll leave. He might play first team, but probably won't for the club that signs him.
We all know that staying here would be his best chance of playing football, but money talks and youngsters walk.

This sums it up perfectly for me sadly...

In the contract, can we take out the "R" and give them Cav...?   :62:
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most...

Whilst I agree this would be favourable- it would at least be something if we could get the purchaser to agree a one year loan back. We have a great chance of being back in the top flight, the player would have a better chance of regular playing time, his personal future would be assured and it's unlikely that Fulham would really present a threat to his new club. All parties would gain from such an arrangement
