Exclusive: Fulham worried about offers for Aleksandar Mitrovic

Fulham are worried about the offers that are starting to land for talismanic striker Aleksandar Mitrovic with concerns that he will be tempted to leave if a big club comes knocking, Football League World can exclusively reveal.

The Serbian is on track to smash Ivan Toney's record for the most goals in a Championship season, having found the net 22 times in 22 games this term.

Mitrovic's goals have been central to Fulham's promotion push with Marco Silva's side currently second as they look to bounce back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

The 27-year-old striker signed a new contract in the summer to keep him at Craven Cottage until 2026 but Football League World can exclusively reveal that there is growing concern about the offers that are starting to land ahead of the January window.

FLW understands that the west London outfit are worried that Mitrovic will be tempted to leave if an offer comes in from a big club and there has been some interest.

Juventus are keeping tabs on the forward as an alternative to Fiorentina's Dusan Vlahovic while Villareal and West Ham United have also been linked.

The Serbia international's record for Fulham – 75 goals and 16 assists in 153 games – is exceptional but he is yet to really prove himself at Premier League level, something that Silva and co. hope to give him the chance to do next season.

Birmingham game postponed

Fulham's Boxing Day game against Birmingham City has been postponed due to a coronavirus outbreak in the Blues camp.

The number of positive cases in Birmingham's first team squad has surpassed the level required in the EFL protocols for a postponed – and both clubs will now work with the EFL to rearrange the fixture when possible. Fulham's next fixture, at Reading on December 29, is also in doubt due to the Royals currently managing a Covid outbreak that saw their Boxing Day game at Peterborough postponed.

Seri selected in Ivory Coast AFCON squad

Fulham midfielder Jean Michael Seri has been named in the Ivory Coast squad for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Cameroon.

Seri, who has been a revelation since being reintroduced to the Fulham squad by new coach Marco Silva this summer, has won 34 caps for his country and has become a regular under national coach Patrice Beaumelle of late. The former Nice midfielder has made 22 appearances for the Whites in the Championship this season – providing six assists.

The Elephants, who won the tournament in 2015, have been drawn in Group E alongside Algeria, Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea. The Ivory Coast's campaign gets underway on January 12. If they go all the way to the final on February 6, Seri could miss as many as four of Fulham's Championship fixtures.

Ivory Coast squad – Goalkeepers: Sylvain Gbohouo (Wolkite Ketema), Badra Ali Sangare (JDR Stars), Abdoul Karim Cisse (Asec Mimosas), Ira Eliezer Tape (San Pedro).

Defenders: Serge Aurier (Villarreal), Eric Bailly (Manchester United), Willy Boly (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Wilfried Kanon (Pyramids), Odilon Kossounou (Bayer Leverkusen), Simon Deli (Adana Demirspor), Ghislain Konan (Reims).

Decision made over Fulham's next Championship fixture ahead of Reading FC clash

Reading's next opponents Fulham were due to face Birmingham City on Boxing Day, but the Championship fixture has been postponed after a number of positive Covid cases in the Blues squad

Reading's next opponents in the Championship, Fulham, have had their Boxing Day fixture postponed.

The Championship leaders, who are due to visit the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Wednesday, December 29, were due to host Birmingham City on Boxing Day.

However, Fulham have confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the game has been postponed due to a number of positive Covid cases in the Birmingham City squad.

In a statement, Fulham said that Birmingham had informed the EFL that they would be unable to fulfil the fixture and subsequently, it has been postponed, with a rearranged date to follow.

This is the latest postponement in the EFL ahead of the scheduled Boxing Day games, with the number of cases of coronavirus rising across the country.

Reading's game with Peterborough United has already been postponed due to a number of cases in the Royals squad, while the matches between Cardiff and Coventry City, Millwall and Swansea City, Barnsley and Stoke City, and Preston North End and Sheffield United have also been postponed because of Covid outbreaks.

The latest postponement means that both Reading and Fulham now do not have another scheduled game until the two sides are set to meet in Berkshire next week.

Fulham's last game was against Sheffield United on Monday, with the Blades winning 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

Reading's last fixture was against West Brom on Saturday, December 11, meaning that by the time they play again, it will have been almost three weeks since their last game.
