The Bristol City player who may have breathed new life into his faltering Robins career

A surprise substitution and experiment against Fulham in the FA Cup could have provided a pathway back into the Bristol City starting XI for Jay Dasilva

For the first time since a disappointing 3-2 loss to Coventry City on November 6, 2021, Jay Dasilva featured for Bristol City when he came off of the bench to play 49 minutes in the 1-0 FA Cup third round defeat to Fulham.

The former Chelsea defender has spent almost the entirety of his career playing on the left side of defence, whether at left-back or a more advanced left-wing-back role.

However, the impressive (and slightly surprising) form and consistency of Cam Pring has limited Dasilva's playing time as a conventional left-back and Callum O'Dowda has been preferred at wing-back.

Last time out against the Cottagers, Dasilva stayed on the right of defence, playing in front of Tomas Kalas and allowing Alex Scott to move back into his preferred role in central midfield.

When speaking ahead of Saturday's Championship match against Fulham, manager Nigel Pearson was keen to praise the 23-year-old, admitting it's clarified his potential to play in that role once again.

"What I liked about Jay was his attitude about being asked to play there," he said. "I thought in possession he showed a lot of intelligence, the thing about Jay is he's a good footballer, a really good footballer and he's got good football intelligence.

"I thought he did really well when he came on so I wouldn't have a hesitation of doing that again."

Pring's emergence is also relevant as offering a potential pathway back for Dasilva, given Pearson's desire for players who are tactically flexible and can play multiple positions.

Scott, Andi Weimann, Han-Noah Massengo and Zak Vyner have all been key foundations of this team, in-part, due to their ability to operate in different roles, sometimes over the course of 90 minutes.

Having seemingly been one of the players not on 'Pearson's bus' due to his limited minutes since November, Dasilva's new-found versatility could breathe new life into his faltering Ashton Gate career.

With Danny Simpson nowhere to be seen in recent matchday squads and George Tanner injured for the foreseeable, Scott has been the player preferred by the ex-Leicester City manager, but the 18-year-old is not a natural full-back leaving the position up for grabs.

Although naturally very left-footed, Dasilva didn't appear to have much issue on Saturday and showed his quality both in possession and defensively when matched up with right-footed winger Neeskens Kebano.

Pearson did suggest the style of opponent he was facing aided his performance: "When you play a side who tend to have a right footer on the left and a left footer on the right and they cut inside it's not as big an issue as if you have an orthodox wide player."

There was a return of the tight dribbling and close control most Robins fans had become used to during his loan spell from Chelsea in the 2018/19 season, with then manager Lee Johnson describing him as having a "bubble-gum boot."

City fans aren't the only ones pining for a return to form first associated with Dasliva, with Pearson himself explaining the defender knows he has more to offer.

"He would admit he's not hit the levels this season that he would expect," Pearson explained. "He's shown (his ability) in the past here."

With the same opposition this Saturday as last and an all-round impressive return to action last week, there's a possibility that Pearson may roll the dice and give Dasilva a start to reinvent his role in BS3.

Cairney starts: The predicted Fulham XI to face Bristol City on Saturday

Automatic promotion contenders Fulham will be desperate to build on their emphatic 7-0 midweek win at strugglers Reading with another three points against Bristol City tomorrow afternoon.

That victory at the Select Car Leasing Stadium came after a frustrating run of five winless league games, winning just four points from a possible 15 and allowing Blackburn Rovers to force their way into the top-two race.

For a side whose schedule was disrupted by Covid-19 postponements, this much-needed win will come as a huge relief to Marco Silva's men and they will be the favourites once again to come out on top considering their home advantage and superior league position.

With Blackburn continuing to pursue a spot at the top of the division, taking West Bromwich Albion's title of being the main challenger to AFC Bournemouth and the Cottagers, the latter will need to find consistency if they want to assert themselves as favourites to secure an instant return to the Premier League.

Pulling away with the Cherries from the rest of the pack earlier in the season, they will be expected to do so once again with the calibre of players in their squad and expectations would have been heightened by their result in Berkshire on Tuesday night.

With this convincing victory under their belt, will Silva make any changes for tomorrow's tie in the English capital as they seek successive wins in the league for the first time since November?

We can't know for sure – but we have predicted the starting lineup he may put out against Nigel Pearson's Robins.

It's testament to Marek Rodak that he's keeping summer signing Paulo Gazzaniga out of the lineup and he will start once again after performing well against Reading. In fairness, he didn't have much to deal with, but he did have to be alert to deal with Mamadi Camara's backheel in the first half.

The back four was also rarely tested – but both Antonee Robinson and Kenny Tete provided a different option in attack and Tosin Adarabioyo will have been pleased to get himself on the scoresheet once again.

Harrison Reed lines up alongside Tom Cairney, with the latter spraying the ball around well in midweek and proving to be a crucial asset in the middle for the west London outfit.

Another top performer on Tuesday was Harry Wilson, who was a constant threat as he scored a brace and won a penalty in the first half for Aleksandar Mitrovic to convert. Continuing to justify his price tag, he will start on one the right with Neeskens Kebano on the left-hand side.

The promising Fabio Carvalho also retains his place despite uncertainty continuing regarding his contract situation, with Bobby Decordova-Reid the unlucky man who has to wait his turn whilst the attacking midfield three continue to shine.

Up top, it has to be Serbia international Mitrovic after seeing him score a couple at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, although it's expected that Rodrigo Muniz will enter the fray at some point, especially if the hosts are in need of a goal or two.

EXCLUSIVE: Fear growing that Liverpool, Tottenham target has agreed next move

Fulham fear that Fabio Carvalho has already agreed a deal to move away from the club amid interest from a Premier League quartet, TEAMtalk understands.

The Portuguese-born starlet has been outstanding for The Cottagers since making his breakthrough into the first-team in 2020. He made four Premier League appearances, with one goal, prior to their relegation.

The 19-year-old, who plays for England at youth level, has been excellent this term too. He was named the EFL Young Player of the Month in August and has continued to show his potential.

Overall, since dropping down to the Championship, he has contributed four goals from 14 league appearances.

Fulham are in a strong position from which to aim for an instant return to the top flight as a result. However, the future of Fabio Carvalho remains in doubt.

Talks over a new deal have not progressed as Fulham would like – with his current deal due to expire at the end of the season.

Indeed, we understand Carvalho has turned down a number of offers. As it stands he will be able to walkaway from Fulham at the end of the season – albeit compensation would be due.

Southampton, West Ham, Tottenham and Liverpool are all believed to have shown an interest in claiming his signature.

We revealed in October that Southampton were confident of doing a deal, but they are far from Carvalho's only suitors.

Indeed, we then learned that Liverpool and Tottenham are also firmly at the front of the race for his signature. West Ham have also shown interest.

All four clubs look likely to have Premier League football on offer for Carvalho next season. The latter three will also be aiming to offer him a platform into European football.

For now, Carvalho will keep developing for the rest of the season in the Championship. Beyond then, though, there is a growing realisation that Fulham may not be able to keep hold of him, regardless of the outcome of their promotion bid.

Fulham in battle for Championship star
Fulham are also looking at making their own signings and we revealed earlier this week they are in the race for Blackpool winger Josh Bowler.

The Tangerines snapped up the 22-year-old after he left Everton in the summer. He has been outstanding for Neil Critchley's this term.

Bowler signed an initial 12-month deal but with an option for another. Blackpool are set to take it in order to protect themselves.

Even so, we understand a host of Championship clubs are looking to swoop for Bowler – who can operate on either flank.

Fulham, Blackburn, Stoke and Nottingham Forest are amongst the clubs ready to make a move.

Blackpool's number 11 has started 16 Championship matches this season, coming on in 10 more. He has provided one goal and three assists.

Furthermore, he scored once from his only substitute appearance in the Carabao Cup, after previously starting one more game in an earlier round of that competition.

The sacrifice Cyrus Christie made to join Swansea City as Russell Martin says more transfer business will be done

The Swansea City boss has discussed his side's pursuit of Cyrus Christie while also opening up on plans to make more signings in the January transfer window

Russell Martin has revealed Cyrus Christie took a drop in finances to seal a move from Fulham to Swansea City.

The 29-year-old completed a loan move to south Wales from the Cottagers on Friday fewer than 24 hours after the transfer had initially collapsed.

However, Martin has confirmed that - after Christie had agreed terms with his parent club - the deal was concluded which saw Swansea land their prime target when it came to replacing Ethan Laird.

"I'm delighted with it [transfer business]. It's been really important for us," said the head coach.

"Cyrus, once Ethan left, was the first choice so we haven't explored anyone else in that position.

"We realised he was available, it's taken a little while to do, and eventually Cyrus has had to sacrifice a bit of money to come here which shows brilliant intent from him which is why it was suggested it was off.

"It was about finding the right deal between himself and Fulham but our deal with Fulham was agreed a while ago. Cyrus has shown a big statement of intent to come here and play football.

"He's played nearly 300 games in the Championship. He suits us, he's athletic and he's a fantastic pro. He's one that really excites us and fits what we're trying to do."

The arrival of Christie came just days after goalkeeper Andy Fisher sealed a permanent move to Swansea from Martin's former club MK Dons.

The 23-year-old - along with Christie - is set to go straight into the matchday squad for this weekend's Championship clash with Huddersfield Town.

"Fish is different because he's permanent, he's young and really hungry. I've spoken to you a lot about long-term business, but it's dictated by finances," explained Martin.

"Fish is a really important signing long-term for the football club. He's a fantastic goalkeeper, he's someone we had at MK Dons who we had to fight so hard to sign him, we signed him three minutes before the deadline because he was someone the owner at MK didn't feel we really needed at the time but we knew how important it would be.

"He took a huge pay cut to come to MK. He took a big leap of faith and it's paid off for him.

"I'm really pleased for him because he's been excellent for MK Dons and I'm sure he'll be excellent for us."

Further first-team players are expected to depart this month following the exits of Laird, Morgan Whittaker, Steven Benda and Liam Cullen.

Yan Dhanda, Jay Fulton and Jake Bidwell are among those who could leave the Swansea.com Stadium as Martin's side bid to raise funds to land other transfer targets.

And Martin says the Swans still have plenty more business to be done in the winter window.

"We need to strengthen a few areas and there'll be people leaving the club," he added.

"January is exhausting. So much of it is left until the last minute and you have to be prepared for that. I think we'll still be doing quite a lot of business."

The Swans are in Championship action this weekend for the first time since losing 4-1 at home to Nottingham Forest on December 11.

And Martin has confirmed the visitors will be without a couple of players in west Yorkshire due to Covid-19.

"If I tell you I'm sure the Huddersfield manager will enjoy it! There'll be a couple [out]," he concluded.

Kick-off at The John Smith's Stadium is at 3pm on Saturday.

Elsewhere, midfielder Dan Williams is poised to join Dundalk on loan while goalkeeper Lewis Webb will seal a temporary switch to Shelbourne.

How Fulham became the most prolific team in Europe
Rhys looks at how Fulham have outscored Manchester City, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and, in fact, everyone else from Europe's top five leagues domestically this season.

Fulham added a magnificent seven to their already imposing goal tally with bulldozing victory over a feeble Reading on Tuesday evening – and are on course to demolish the Championship record.

Should FFC continue scoring at their current rate of 2.4 goals per game – Marco Silva's blusterous Whites would demolish Reading's 99 strikes from 2005/06 (the highest since the rebrand) with an astonishing 111.

I've taken a moment to delve into how Fulham have become so prolific since their summer of change – and speculate how things might progress across 2022.

Parker the bus
Scott Parker turned from hero to stranger before turning his back on Fulham following their relegation from the Premier League last season – and his last few months at the helm were far from engaging.

Over the course of the previous summer, Parker had doubled down on the cautious tactics that saw Fulham sneak their way back into the top flight – and it briefly felt like it might come good.

Parker's men earned a reputation for hanging onto one-goal leads during their fourth-place finish in 2018/19, reaching the playoff final by scoring only seven goals more than rock-bottom Hull City.

Their 64 strikes, and goal difference of +16, was of complete contrast to Fulham's free scoring spirit under Slavisa Jokanovic, a side who smashed home 79 goals and earned a positive difference of 33.

Parker, who had been seemingly been scarred by his time watching Fulham from the sidelines as they shipped 81 Premier League goals in 2018/19, immediately implemented a new plan on their top-flight return.

Following a sentimental starting XI in the season opener against Arsenal and two disastrous defensive displays against Leeds and Aston Villa, Fulham got wise at the back.

Despite managing only two wins across their opening 23 league outings, Fulham limited the opposition to only one goal or fewer on 22 occasions across their 35 fixtures between October and May.

However, their pragmatism came with a prodigious price at the other end, with only 27 goals scored in total and a run of 10 draws from 15 matches between December and February proving to be ruinous.

Silva signing
After Parker's June departure sparked a hunt for the right man to steady the ship, a personal visit from Shahid Khan did the trick to convince Marco Silva of a new challenge in SW6.

Although the drop in quality of opposition was always going to help his chances of a good start to life in West London, the change in system didn't take much time to implement.

Fulham averaged 57.6% of the ball during the promotion season under Parker, and on more than one occasion found themselves unstuck against a low block of often journeyman defenders.

Having abandoned that system in the top flight, at the direct expense of Aleksandar Mitrović, Silva is not as desperate to keep hold of the ball – as long as it is used wisely when they do have it.

While Fulham have averaged 59% of the ball per game so far this season, that is thanks in part to the 67% they managed in the 7-0 victories over both Blackburn and Reading.

It's also worth pointing out that Fulham had exactly half of the ball during the 3-0 victory at home to Stoke, 46% in the 4-1 battering of QPR and just 38% in the 3-1 win at home against Swansea.

Aleksandar, the wait
An arguably worse feeling than that of imminent relegation towards the end of last season was the uncertain future of Mitrovic, who didn't have a perfect relationship with the manager to say the very least.

I wrote back in May how the departure of our favourite striker in decades would've been by far the worst outcome of the upcoming summer – but his return to form has exceeded even my lofty expectations.

Despite a recent run of just one goal across four games, his double at Reading has taken his tally for the season to an unrivalled 24 (across the top five European divisions and top four leagues in England).

The 27-year-old has flourished under the guidance of Silva and assistant boss Luís Boa Morte, sitting only seven goals behind Ivan Toney's 31 from last season with 22 fixtures to play.

Mitrovic is also just two goals behind the league-leading return of 26 from the 2019/20 campaign – during which it took him 43 matchweeks to hit the same tally as from 23 this season.

'I don't know about you, 2022'
Looking forward, it might not be wise to predict that the monstrous scoring rate of both Fulham and Mitrovic will continue at it's current level, but that's not to say it's impossible.

With Harry Wilson (9), Neeskens Kebano (5), Fábio Carvalho (4) and Rodrigo Muniz (3) all providing a goal threat so far under Silva, opposition defences don't seem quite sure where to look.

Should Fulham continue in the same vein and secure promotion either by league position or by the play-offs for the third time in six seasons, I doubt Silva would be quite so outright when adapting his team for the Premier League.

Trying not to get ahead of myself, there is still plenty of Championship football, for us more than most, before Fulham's fate is sealed – but if the opening half of the season is anything to go by... there is plenty more fun to be had.

Covid Checks at Craven Cottage

A reminder to fans of the COVID protocols and checks in place at Craven Cottage, required as part of Government requirements.

All supporters aged 18 and over are required to display their NHS COVID vaccine passport/certification or present proof of a negative lateral flow test when attending matches at Craven Cottage. This Government policy is a condition of entry to any event in England with more than 10,000 people.

We ask supporters to re-familiairise themselves with the below information ahead of Fulham's home matches against Bristol City and Birmingham City.
BE PREPARED - GET YOUR COVID PASS

You will need to bring your COVID Pass – available through the NHS App, online at NHS.co.uk or via postal letter - or proof of lateral flow test with you to matches at Craven Cottage. Please have this ready before you reach the queuing lanes in front of the turnstiles, where it will be checked prior to entry to the ground.

Please note, vaccination cards issued at vaccine centres are not accepted as proof of vaccination.

For supporters aged 18 and over who are not yet double vaccinated, you will need to take a lateral flow test within 48 hours of attending the match and subsequently have proof of a negative result via a text message or email from the NHS (white plastic strips from the lateral flow test will not be accepted as proof).

All supporters should also bring Photo ID which may be checked for identity verification purposes.
ARRIVE EARLY

Owing to these new requirements, entry into the ground will take longer than normal.

Turnstiles will now open two hours before kick-off (13:00 for a 15:00 kick-off, 17:45 for a 19:45 kick-off) and with large queues expected we strongly advise fans arrive at least one hour before kick-off.

Please ensure you plan your journey in advance and arrive to Craven Cottage in plenty of time - supporters who arrive 30 minutes prior to kick-off or less do risk missing a significant amount of the first half.

Early bird food and drink offers will be available inside the ground from gates opening, until half an hour before kick-off. Fans can take advantage of subsidised prices on a number of food, alcoholic and soft drink items.

The process of showing your Covid status is now a mandatory requirement for venues, and whilst the Club will do everything it can to ensure the checking process is as smooth as possible for supporters, we politely request that fans are respectful and co-operate with our staff. Any abuse towards staff will not be tolerated and could lead to refusal of entry to the ground.
WEAR A FACE COVERING

The wearing of face coverings is now mandatory in indoor areas.

Please wear a face covering as you enter the turnstiles, walk through concourse areas, to toilets, food and beverage kiosks and any other areas of the ground. Fans do not need to wear a face covering when seated in the stands or when eating and drinking.
DO NOT TRAVEL IF UNWELL

Even if double-vaccinated, supporters must not attend a fixture at Craven Cottage if you, or anybody attending with you, is suffering from symptoms of Covid-19, feels unwell, or is required to self-isolate.

All of the above information applies to all visitors to Craven Cottage.

Matchday Hospitality guests will need to follow a similar process. Please contact your Account Manager for further information.

Your test must be taken at home and the negative result registered with the NHS within 48 hours of attending your match at Craven Cottage.

Lateral Flow Test (LFT) kits can be ordered online or by visiting your local pharmacy.

Within each pack are step-by-step instructions on how to take the test and record the result. You must report your test result - whether positive, negative or void - every time you do a test.

Fans should not bring their physical test with them but record the LFT result with the NHS.

Once your result has been recorded, you will receive a text message and email from the NHS. This is deemed as a valid NHS COVID pass and will need to be presented and checked in order to gain entry to the ground.
INTERNATIONAL VISITORS

If supporters were vaccinated in another country and are visiting Craven Cottage, you can show the same proof of vaccination that was accepted at the UK border. International visitors can also show a valid text or email confirmation of a negative rapid lateral flow or PCR test from NHS Test and Trace.

Cyrus Christie: Fulham defender took pay cut to join Swansea City on loan

Cyrus Christie's most recent appearance came in the Republic of Ireland's friendly win over Qatar in October 2021

Cyrus Christie took a pay cut to join Swansea City on loan this week, head coach Russell Martin has revealed.

The Fulham defender is poised for a Swansea debut in Saturday's Championship game at Huddersfield Town.

And Martin has praised the attitude of the Republic of Ireland international for helping to get the deal done.

"It has taken a little while to do and eventually Cyrus has had to sacrifice a bit of money to come here," said Martin.

"I think it shows brilliant intent from him and [it] is why people were suggesting it (the move) might be off.

"But he was always confident it was going to get done. It was about finding the right deal between Fulham and himself, our deal with Fulham was agreed a while ago.

"Cyrus has shown a big statement of intent to come here and play football. To do that is the sort of character you need."

Christie, 29, can operate across the defensive positions and Martin said: "I think it will really benefit him being here. He will help us and we will help him. Once we had a chat and he realised how he would fit in, he did his bit to get it to happen.

"It's a testament to his character he has been willing to do that. For his sake and ours, I hope it will pay off and I am convinced it will."

The Swansea boss said he was "delighted" with the acquisition of Christie and goalkeeper Andrew Fisher, who has signed from Martin's former club MK Dons for a fee understood to be in the region of £400,000 on a four-and-a-half year deal.

Fisher is also set for a Swansea bow against Huddersfield and Martin said: "Fish is a really important signing long term for this football club.

"He is a fantastic goalkeeper. He is someone we had at MK Dons who we had to fight so hard for to sign. He signed three minutes before the deadline because he was someone the owner at MK Dons did not really feel we needed at that time.

"But we knew how important he would be. He took a huge pay cut at that time. He showed a good leap of faith in us... and it paid off for him.

"He was excellent for MK Dons and I am sure he will be excellent for us."

Martin hopes to do more business in the January window while more departures are expected, with midfielder Dan Williams set to join Dundalk on loan and goalkeeper Lewis Webb heading for a temporary spell at Shelbourne.

After a Covid outbreak over Christmas, Swansea still have some illness in the camp which will see them without one or two players at Huddersfield.

Striker Kyle Joseph is included in the squad having been recalled from his loan spell at Cheltenham Town.

Swansea will be looking to end a run of three consecutive league defeats as they play their first Championship game since December 11.

The Serbian has more goals as he does SkyBet Championship games this season which shows exactly why Marco Silva backs him as his sole striker.

After scoring 36 goals in 69 games for Anderlecht, Mitrovic earned himself a move to Newcastle, where his spell in the North East wasn't as successful, netting 14 times in 65 games.

In February 2018, he joined Fulham on loan until the end of the season and his first goal for the club came against the Robins later that month in a 1-1 draw.

After finishing that season with 12 goals, Fulham signed the forward permanently in July 2018.

Fulham's number nine has earned 69 caps for his country, with a very impressive goal tally of 44.

Virals: Liverpool have 'shown an interest' in Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho

Liverpool are reportedly among a host of clubs to have 'shown an interest' in Fulham starlet Fabio Carvalho.

The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the 19-year-old and current manager Marco Silva is believed to want the future resolved sooner rather than later.

Now, a report from TEAMtalk has claimed that the Anfield club are keen on the attacking midfielder and could strike in the summer.

The report claims that West Ham and Southampton are also interested whilst it's Liverpool and Tottenham are 'firmly at the front of the race' for the six-times capped England Under 19 ace.

This season Carvalho – described as 'lively' by Scott Parker – has scored four times and provided one assist in 14 Championship appearances.

READ LIVERPOOL VERDICT

Valued at £3.15million and out of contract at the end of the season (Transfermarkt), signing the highly-rated teen would be a major coup for the club.

Having already amassed 21 senior outings – including four and a goal in the Premier League –  there can be little doubting Carvalho's status as a hot prospect.

Predominantly an attacking midfielder, the Portugal-born prodigy would join the likes of Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Kaide Gordon as exciting attacking prospects already in situ on Merseyside.

Available at a likely affordable compensation fee in just six months time, it truly is a no-brainer that Liverpool should be looking to raid Fulham once more.

ing starts: The predicted Bristol City XI to face Fulham on Saturday

Bristol City could and arguably should have beaten Fulham in the FA Cup third round tie at Ashton Gate last weekend but Nigel Pearson's side will know that tomorrow's Championship clash will be a tougher test.

Marco Silva won't be resting any of his big guns this time around and the Cottagers head into the game high in confidence after they hammered Reading 7-0 in the week.

City do have recent history on their side – the Robins have won their last five games at Craven Cottage and are unbeaten there since 1997 – but that's unlikely to be much comfort to Nigel Pearson's squad.

With that in mind, we've outlined the XI Pearson may name for tomorrow's Championship clash in west London...

Max O'Leary appears to have moved above Dan Bentley in the pecking order in recent weeks and was excellent against Fulham last weekend, so may well reprise his role in goal.

Pearson opted for a back four in the win against Millwall at the start of the year but given the attacking options Fulham possess, he may feel a back three is needed.

That should mean Cam Pring, Rob Atkinson, and Tomas Kalas all start after they worked well together in the FA Cup tie at Ashton Gate.

In midfield, Matty James should return after his rest but City could start with both Andy King and Han-Noah Massengo ahead of him to shore things up.

Alex Scott and Callum O'Dowda have proven fantastic assets from the flanks this term so it would be a surprise to see either lose their place tomorrow.

With 12 already, Andi Weimann is on course to have the most productive season of his career in front of goal and he'll be hoping to add to his tally against the west London club.

Antoine Semenyo has added a real dynamism to the side since re-establishing himself in the starting XI and should get the nod over Chris Martin and Nahki Wells.

City earned a hard-fought point against Fulham at Ashton Gate back in September but will need a strong performance to get anything from tomorrow's game.

Cyrus Christie sends message to Fulham fans after sealing temporary Swansea City switch

Cyrus Christie has taken to Instagram to send a message to Fulham's supporters after sealing a temporary switch to Swansea City yesterday.

As confirmed by Fulham's official website, the right-back will now feature for the Jacks during the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

Christie spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest where he featured on 44 occasions for the club in the Championship.

After returning to Craven Cottage, Christie would have been hoping to force his way into their starting eleven in the current term.

However, due to the presence of Denis Odoi and Kenny Tete, the Republic of Ireland international was limited to just one appearance in the first half of the season.

Having completed a move to Swansea, Christie will be determined to prove his worth to their head coach Russell Martin in the coming months.

The 29-year-old could be in line to make his debut for the Welsh side when they face Huddersfield Town in the Championship tomorrow.

After securing his departure from Fulham, Christie thanked the club's fans on Instagram for the support that he has received.

The defender posted: "It's been an honour to represent @fulhamfc and I will look back on my time there with some fond memories with those being the two promotion campaigns and victories at Wembley.

"I had some great times there and also some bad times.

"This chapter in my career didn't quite work out how it was meant to for whatever reason but that is football and those experiences can only shape my character.

"I met some incredible people there not just players but staff also who were fantastic from day one.

"I thank the fans for all their support over the years and wish the club nothing but the best for the future."

The Verdict

Although it is important to note that Christie's move to Swansea is not a permanent deal, the tone of this particular message seems to suggest that the right-back will be leaving Fulham when his contract expires this summer.

If this ends up being the case, it is important that Christie joins a team who are willing to play him on a regular basis in order to revive his career.

Swansea may be willing to offer him the chance to join them on a full-time basis later this year if he is able to deliver the goods consistently between now and the end of the season.

In Christie's absence, Fulham will be aiming to maintain their push for promotion by picking up victories in their upcoming clashes with Bristol City, Birmingham City and Stoke City.

David Prutton issues score prediction ahead of Fulham vs Bristol City

After a difficult Christmas period, Fulham managed to score seven without reply to dismantle Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.

The Cottagers went into their midweek clash with the royals without a Championship win in their last six matches.

Boasting a remarkably impressive +39 goal difference, Fulham reclaimed a spot in the division's top two.

Bristol City ended a run of one point from their last three games with a spirited fightback to earn all three points at home to Millwall.

The Robins secured a 3-2 victory over the Lions, with Andreas Weimann scoring a hat-trick in the process.

Sitting in 15th, Nigel Pearson's side find themselves closer to the play-offs than the relegation zone in points.

Issuing his prediction via his Sky Sports column, David Prutton expects to see a 3-1 win for the home side.

The verdict

Marco Silva's men will once again be on cloud nine after such an impressive display in Berkshire during the week, and they will be eager to get this one started.

The Robins started the season with a brilliant away record, however, they are now without three points on the road since early October.

Fulham have proven to be devastating going forward this season, with Aleksandar Mitrovic making impressive strides towards breaking Ivan Toney's Championship record when it comes to goals scored, and they will be viewing this as another opportunity to add to their already impressive tally.

Andres Weimann will look to cause the Fulham defence as many problems as possible, but ultimately, Fulham's firepower should see them emerge victorious.

West Ham United eye player Liverpool confident of signing

West Ham United are competing with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Fabio Carvalho, according to TEAMtalk.

TEAMtalk have reported today that West Ham, Liverpool, Tottenham and Southampton are interested in signing Fulham attacker Carvalho.

Carvalho, who can play as a winger or as an attacking midfielder, is out of contract at Fulham at the end of the season.

TEAMtalk have claimed that talks over a new deal are not progressing, and that Fulham fear that he may have already agreed a contract with another club.

It was TEAMtalk who reported in November that Liverpool were confident of winning the race for Carvalho.

Could West Ham beat Liverpool to Fabio Carvalho?

In our view, West Ham could beat Premier League rivals Liverpool to the signature of Carvalho.

Yes, Liverpool are a big club, but the 19-year-old is unlikely to get into their first team straightaway.

It is very likely that the attacker would have to feature for the Liverpool youth teams initially.

Now, West Ham could offer him a direct route to the first team.

The Hammers could end up in the Premier League top four and would then require a big squad.

Now, of course, Carvalho would have to work extremely hard, but he would stand a better chance of become a first-team member at West Ham than at Liverpool.

Carvalho has made 11 starts and three substitute appearances in the Championship for Fulham so far this season, scoring four goals and providing one assist in the process.

Silva expects 'difficult' challenge from Bristol City

Marco Silva expects Bristol City to make things difficult for his Fulham side again tomorrow – a week after being eliminated from the FA Cup by the Whites after extra time.

The Robins travel to London encouraged by their disciplined showing in the Cup tie at Ashton Gate, which Nigel Pearson's men were unlucky to lose, and they can draw strength from the fact that they haven't lost at Craven Cottage since 1997. Silva told his pre-match press conference this afternoon:

They made it very difficult in the cup, they did the same in the first round [the reverse Championship fixture at Ashton Gate] as well. We lost two points against them in the first round. We drew that game and of course we wanted to win the game. We know that for us to win the game we have to have a good performance, we have to play well, we have to be always ready with a good commitment, good attitude."

The Fulham coach believes spirit in the camp is high following the resounding win at Reading in midweek and feels that the Whites' promotion hopes are in their own hands.

"We look always at ourselves. Of course at the end of the weekend we look at the table, I think that's normal, but during the week, every single day my players know what we talk about. We talk about ourselves, ourselves and ourselves. Our focus is always on what we can do and what our strategy is for the next match.

We know we gave a very good first half of the season, we were stronger than a big part of our opponents, and we did really well. We want to do better, but if not we will at least try to do the same in the second half of the season. As I said, our full focus is on ourselves."

Up next: Bristol City (h)

Scoring seven times away from home for the second time this season certainly lifted spirits among the Fulham fan base this week. The sensational display at Reading, combined with the side's all-out-attack approach, emphasised the quality within the Londoners' squad and their desire to make a dispirting December run something of a distant memory. You would have thought Marco Silva's toughest job in the aftermath of that Reading rout would have been to keep feet firmly on the ground: but, in their different atfer mach interviews, both Harry Wilson and Fabio Carvalho attested to the fact that nothing was won yet and that Fulham want to be winning convincingly and topping the table.

A stern test of that rediscovered ruthlesness awaits in the shape of Bristol City tomorrow afernoon. Nigel Pearson's men might be sitting fifteenth in the Championship table but they were unfortunate to be edged out of the FA Cup by Harry Wilson's extra time fluke last week and they boast a sensational winning run at Craven Cottage that dates back to 1997. The Robins might have struggled for consistency this term but they showed plenty of heart in coming from behind to defeat Millwall last time out in the league – and Pearson has the prospect of reintegrating some of his more established names for this fixture.

Pearson will probably stick with a similar system to the 3-4-1-2 that he used last weekend – especially as variations on the formatio have posed particular problems for Fulham this season. He spoke during his pre-match press conference about how well the former Fulham centre backs Tomas Kalas and Rob Atkinson dealt with the attacking threats of Rodrigo Muniz and Aleksandar Mitrovic. The Robins have been trying to introduce a little more subtlety and creativity into their approach – something Kalas highlighted following the game last Saturday – and there are likely to be a couple of changes in terms of personnel. Andi Weimann, whose hat trick against Millwall took him to twelve goals for the season, is likely to return to the starting line-up and Matty James is pushing hard for a recall.

Fulham's biggest task will be matching the intensity and quality of some of their sublime football from midweek. Reading were devoid of confidence and missing a shedload of key performers, but after a slow start this was one of Fulham's most complete performances of he campaign. Silva spoke about the need for some of his fringe players to chip in more regularly with goals, but he is likely to resist any tinkering given how dominant the Whites were in Berkshire. Joe Bryan could have a chance of featuring against his old club, especially after Antonee Robinson almost gifted Reading an equaliser in the first half.

The goals of Harry Wilson and Mitrovic's mangificent all-round play were striking in Berkshire, but the composition of the central midfield – with Jean-Michael Seri on AFCON duty – particularly intrigued me. Harrison Reed had a storming game in his more natural holding midfield role, with captain Tom Cairney able to dictate play impressively from a slightly more advanced position. Cairney's fluent display would have encouraged Silva, who disclosed last week that he was gradually hoping for the skipper to deliver more consistency as he gets more minutes into his legs after such a prolonged injury lay-off.

Fulham's threat out wide appears restored with Wilson looking dagerous almost every he advnced with the ball and Neeskens Kebano offering electricity on the opposition flank. As Silva opined this afternoon, the sort of regular service those to wingers can provide keeps Mitrovic – now on 24 league goals in 23 appearances – in tip-top form. The Serbian might still have some detractors in English football, but none of them are associated with Fulham Football Club. There seems an added string to his bow now, with several sublime passes cutting through the Royals on Wednesday, and there can be no doubt that he enjoys life in souh west Lodon.

MY FULHAM XI (4-2-3-1): Rodak; Tete, A. Robinson, Adarabioyo, Ream; Reed, Cairney; Wilson, Kebano, Mitrovic. Subs: Gazzaniga, Odoi, Hector, Chalobah, Onomah, Decordova-Reid, Muniz.1

'Happy here': Nottingham Forest and Fulham to miss out on Champ star

Josh Bowler is 'happy' and 'settled' at Blackpool amid reports linking the Championship star with a move to Nottingham Forest and Fulham, manager Neil Critchley tells Lancs Live.

Five years ago, Everton invested over £4 million in a teenager with just one first-team league appearance under his belt. But it is only now that Bowler is really starting to live up to those early expectations.

The former QPR starlet has been performing like a man possessed since joining Blackpool on a free transfer last summer.

So much so that, according to TEAMtalk, second-tier rivals Fulham, Nottingham Forest, Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City are showing an interest.

If Blackpool could turn back the clock to last June, we'd imagine that they would hand Bowler a far longer contract than the one he signed at Bloomfield Road.

As it stands, the 22-year-old wideman will become a free-agent again this summer.

It must be said, however, that the Tangerines do have an option to extend his current deal by a further 12 months.

Could Josh Bowler leave Blackpool already?
"I think certain players you always look at and would like to secure them for longer," said Critchley, the former Liverpool U23 boss.

"But you also have to understand that also the player and their representatives have to look after their own interests sometimes as well."

Critchley is confident that Bowler, who has dazzled with his direct running and dextrous dribbling, will be a Blackpool player until the end of the current campaign.

"Josh is here, he's our player," the manager adds. I'm expecting a big second half of the season from him because I think he'll only get better.

"He's showing improvement in his game all the time which we're trying to help him with. I know he's enjoying being here and we want that to continue.

"From the conversations I've had with Josh, he's really settled and happy here."

In addition to Bowler, Nottingham Forest are chasing another Championship winger.

Millwall have rejected two bids for Jed Wallace, according to The Telegraph. Manager Gary Rowett has refused to rule out an eventual January departure for his talismanic number seven however.

Silva calls for fringe Fulham players to do more

Fulham boss Marco Silva has called on his side to do more ease the attacking burden on Aleksandar Mitrovic, Neeskens Kebano and Harry Wilson.

The Whites can return to the top of the Championship table with victory over Bristol City at Craven Cottage and if Bournemouth fail to beat Luton at Kenilworth Road in a lunchtime kick-off after returning to winning ways in style with a 7-0 thrashing over Reading on Tuesday.

Mitrovic, Wilson and Kebano have scored 38 of Fulham's 58 goals this season and Silva said he wants more contributions from the rest of the squad as his side look to launch a strong second half to the season and secure an instant return to the Premier League.

"I am really pleased with what they are doing and enjoying watching it as well," Silva said.

"It is fantastic to see for me as well Harry Wilson playing at this level, he is fully committed, confident.

"I am pleased with the other two as well. We have spoke many times about Mitrovic but even he still has room to improve and I am pleased to see him fighting hard and doing what I am asking.

"I want to see more from the others that are not playing. I want to see more from Ivan (Cavaleiro), from Anthony (Knockaert) and from Rodrigo (Muniz) as well.

"For a team to get success at the end of the season, it can't be just because we have (a front) three doing fantastic.

"We are a strong team, but a strong team doesn't just have 11 players."

Tam Courts makes 'we've got to be patient' Tony Watt admission – and confirms ex-Dundee and Fulham star Kevin McDonald is training with Dundee United

Tam Courts has revealed talks are ongoing between Dundee United and Motherwell over the possible transfer of Tony Watt.

The striker has agreed a pre-contract with United and will move to Tayside at the end of the season, but a deal could be wrapped up this month.

Courts said: "It's one of those situations where our recruitment strategy is what Tony Asghar would call laser focused.

"We've got to be patient and trust the process and try and get the deal done. There are certain complexities but we would like to add to the squad.

"When we were looking at what we needed in terms of bolstering our attack for the summer, Tony is a guy who has had a number of different clubs but he's been successful at those clubs.

"He's now at a stage of his life and age where he knows who he is as a player and what he wants out of his profession and he's in a rich vein of scoring form.

"I think the key thing is he complements what's in the building and enhances what we want to do in terms of our style of play and there's a personality and a presence that complements what's already in the building.

"We are excited to have him in the summer. But we also recognise he is still someone's player just now. That's the way it's going to be until I'm told differently."

Kevin McDonald
Meanwhile, Courts also confirmed Kevin McDonald is training with Dundee United.

The former Scotland internationalist, who is originally from Carnoustie, is continuing to recover from a kidney transplant, having also spent time training with Dundee last year.

The 33-year-old underwent an operation in 2021, receiving a kidney from his brother, Fraser.

Courts said: "Kevin is up in the area. He's from the area and we are looking at a couple of different options and Kevin was presented as an option to come in and train.

"To get the opportunity to add a guy of his pedigree in the English Premier League with Fulham and also as a Scottish internationalist it would be remiss for us to not have a look.

"He's really added to the training group in terms of his personality and leadership and his quality is not in doubt. We are enjoying having him at this moment in time."
