Dempsey Elected To Hall Of Fame

Clint Dempsey has been elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

It follows the news that Mark Schwarzer was inducted into the Australian equivalent last week.

Fulham greatest ever Premier League scorer – with 50 of his 60 goals for us coming in the top flight – Dempsey is undoubtedly a United States legend for what he has achieved.

He is the fourth most capped player in their history with 141 appearances to his name, and nobody has scored more goals for the USMNT than Dempsey's 57.

Dempsey scored at three separate World Cups for the States, and also holds the mantle of being the first American to play in a major European Final and to score a Premier League hat-trick.

Dempsey joins fellow Fulham alumni Brian McBride, Carlos Bocanegra and Kasey Keller, and everyone at the Club would like to congratulate him on a thoroughly deserved achievement.

Dempsey inducted into US hall of fame

Former Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey has been elected into US Soccer's national hall of fame.

Dempsey was surprised by the news during his role as a television pundit ahead of the USA's World Cup qualifier against Canada over the weekend. He becomes the fourth former Fulham player to be inducted into the hall of fame following in the footsteps of Brian McBride, Carlos Bocanegra and Kasey Keller.

Dempsey, the first American to score in three World Cup finals, scored 57 goals in 141 senior internationals. He remains Fulham's highest ever Premier League goalscorer – with fifty goals in England's top flight – and was famously part of the side that reached the 2010 Europa League final, scoring a stunning winner in the stirring comeback against Juventus at Craven Cottage. Dempsey scored 60 goals in 232 games across two spells with Fulham and will be formally inducted into the hall of fame in May.

City v Fulham should be an FA Cup cracker, says Onuoha

Nedum Onuoha believes City's FA Cup fourth round clash at home to Fulham this weekend promises to be a thrilling and goal-laden spectacle.

The sell-out clash at the Etihad pits Pep Guardiola's Premier League leaders against the Championship front-runners.

Marco Silva's side have garnered widespread praise for their attacking style this season with Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic leading the way with 28 goals, as they have opened up a five point lead at the top of the table

City meanwhile have been in superb form in defence of our Premier League crown, scoring 55 goals to date in moving nine points clear.

And according to former City defender Onuoha – now one of our regular Matchday Live pundits – it all points to a potential Cup cracker.

"Having played against Fulham and watched them for a few years, that's what they do. They are not a side to park the bus – they try to be expansive; they try to score goals," said Onuoha

"I think Aleksandar Mitrovic has probably scored more goals than half the teams in the Championship, and their wingers do well too.

"But teams that come here with that attacking philosophy (find) it's going to be a bit of a problem as City tend to control games and they have a lot of chances themselves.

"However, from a neutral point of view, for it to be a good tie you want it to be open and (I think) there will be so many goals in this game."

Meanwhile fellow former City star Paul Dickov believes a refreshed and rejuvenated Pep Guardiola's squad will relish the opportunity to try and further our progress in the Cup.

Saturday's game will mark our return to action following the mini winter break with Guardiola affording his players some time off and a number choosing to enjoy a spell of winter sunshine.

After an intense schedule over the past few months, former City and Scotland striker Dickov says that the hiatus came at just the right time for the Premier League leaders.

And he believes the City squad will welcome the Cottagers to the Etihad this weekend armed with a fierce determination to try and move another step closer to Wembley.

"I love the FA Cup whether it's here at the Etihad or an away trip, it's the best cup competition in the world," regular Matchday Live guest Dickov declared.

"And I don't think it has lost its prestige like some people seem to think.

"The one thing we do at Manchester City - and the one thing the manager does - is he always picks a strong team as he wants to win the competitions.

"I also think the break has come at just the right time for everybody.

"A little two-week gap between games means they will have a had a few days off training wise as well possibly getting in a little holiday and a bit of sun on their backs.

"They will come back ready for the last third of the season."

Why haven't Fulham signed anyone?

Despite Fulham being linked to multiple players over the course of this January transfer window, with the club reportedly interested in names such as Amadou Diawara, Tom Lawrence and the ever-present Dwight Gayle rumour, there have been no incomings at Motspur Park with just hours until the deadline.

Instead, the focus appears to be on keeping young stars at the club, with Jay Stansfield recently signing a new contract and the club steadfastly negotiating with Liverpool and Fabio Carvalho as they persist with their intentions of keeping the starlet, as well as shifting the 'dead wood' of unregistered players. For many, this begs the question of why the recruitment is having an uncharacteristically quiet start to the new year.

To oversimplify the potential reasonings, there are two overlapping schools of thought. Firstly, is the opinion squad doesn't currently need any new additions. With Fulham five points clear of second-placed Blackburn Rovers, with a game in hand, and, other than a poor showing against Blackpool, experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime purple patch of form; having scored 74 goals already, as they enviously eye up the 2001/02 Fulham Women's team's eyewatering 234 goal tally, it appears as though Marco Silva and the board believe that the team shouldn't require much change to see out the season.

The team's quality is evident, having been the better performers in the vast majority of games so far this season, no matter the final scoreline. The quality and depth of the squad was epitomised in the recent fixture at the Bet365 stadium against possibly the toughest opposition that Silva's side have faced so far, with the Whites missing multiple key players, such as Aleksander Mitrovic, Harry Wilson and Jean-Michael Seri, due to COVID-19 or international duty. Despite this, Fulham were still able to collect all three points in a nervy 3-2 win with samba star Rodrigo Muniz and reggae boy Bobby Decordovia-Reid proving that they could do it on a cold afternoon in Stoke.

This can be attributed to the past recruitment of leading Championship talent in almost all departments as the Whites once again push for the Premier League, as well as to Silva's fantastic playing style which draws the best out of each and everyone one of his squad members. Therefore, any additional spending could be deemed irresponsible and unnecessary given the previous patchy recruitment which has left the club with a mountain of 'dead wood' to shift. However, many amongst the fanbase believe that reinforcements are needed in the backline, with the club lacking depth at right-back, having a duo of inconsistent left-backs and few everpresent centre-back options.

This brings us onto the second, and more laborious point: the club's Financial Fair Play (FFP) deficit. Thus far, we have seen the club loan Cyrus Christie to Swansea, offer Watford the opportunity to recall Domingos Quina, attempt to gift Birmingham City Alfie Mawson, seek to shift Terence Kogolo to Groningen, offload Anthony Knockaert to Como and try to squeeze every possible penny from Crystal Palace or Napoli for Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa. This is to name just a few of the outgoing deals which have been either confirmed or rumoured, most of whom are previously extortionately expensive signings that have not reached their required standards as Fulham hunt for Premier League stability but continue to apply considerable pressure on the club's finances – especially with the economic impact of COVID-19.

I have previously waxed lyrical about Fulham's Financial Fair Play position, and there has been little positive change within the latest accounts – just understand that it is extremely tight! If you are interested in learning more about Fulham's financial position, I have previously written about Fulham's FFP position, I have previously written about Fulham's FFP position in 2020/21's January window as well as how relegation could have damaged the finances. Furthermore, Cottage Analytica's analysis of the latest financial report is extremely well detailed and informative.

Fulham's Sessegnon moves to Plymouth on loan

Fulham full-back Steven Sessegnon has completed a loan switch to League One promotion chasers Plymouth.

Sessegnon has not featured in Marco Silva's plans this season and spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Bristol City.

Plymouth sit in seventh spot on the League One table, two points outside the play-off places.

On-loan midfielder Domingos Quina has been recalled from his loan spell at Fulham by Watford and set to join Championship strugglers Barnsley until the end of the season.

The former Portugal Under-21 midfielder struggled for game time at Craven Cottage and made just four appearances in all competitions since joining from the Hornets in the summer.

Liverpool 'agree Carvalho fee'

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Fulham for the transfer of teenage attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho, according to various reports this evening.

The deal to take the nineteen year-old to Anfield is understood to be around £10m with Welsh international full back Neco Williams heading to Craven Cottage on loan. Carvalho is expected to remain with the Championship leaders on loan until the end of the season – and Liverpool are racing to complete a medical and finalise personal terms over a proposed five-year contract with the England youth international before tonight's deadline.

Sessegnon signs

Fulham defender Steven Sessegnon has become Plymouth Argyle's third signing of the January transfer window, joining on loan until the end of the season.

The young defender spent last season on loan at Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City, making 18 appearances in total.

Steven is the twin brother of Tottenham Hotspur winger Ryan, and has featured 19 times for his parent club.

He is an exciting signing for the Greens and is a player well known to both Director of Football Neil Dewsnip and Assistant Manager Keith Downing through the England set-up.

Steven has played at every England youth age group since he was fifteen and has five caps for the under-21 side.

Whilst working with Dewsnip, Steven was part of the England under-17 side that won the World Cup in India in 2017.

He played five times during that tournament including a start in the final - which England won 5-2 against Spain.

The 21-year-old, who has played the majority of career at right full back, was part of the Fulham under-18 side that knocked Argyle's Academy out of the FA Youth Cup in 2016.

He was a regular in the senior side the year they won promotion to the Premier League under Scott Parker in 19/20, but is yet to feature this term.

On signing for the Greens, Steven said: ""I am very happy to be here and once I got the phone call, my mind was set.

"I knew that this side wants to get promoted, that was a big thing for me wanting to come here and win some games.

"I just want to play in a good side that wins week in week out and it's clear this side wants to win. It was an easy choice for me to come here."

Manager Steven Schumacher added: "We are delighted to have Steven join us at Argyle.

"He is a young player who has Championship experience as well as representing England at youth and under-21 level. He will be a great addition to our squad and will provide competition in the wing back areas of the pitch or even in midfield.

"We look forward to seeing him on the pitch and we are sure the Green Army will be excited to see Steven play."

Argyle Director of Football, Neil Dewsnip said: ""He is a player that myself and Keith Downing have worked with at national team level, and I had the honour to be with him when we won the under-17 World Cup in 2017 in India.

"There is no doubt he is a boy with immense talent who will I am sure be challenging fiercely for a starting place."

Steven will wear the no.17 shirt for the remainder of the 21/22 campaign, and will be sponsored by Platinum Car Centre.

Welcome to Home Park, Steven.

How Liverpool can sign Fabio Carvalho after the transfer window closes having agreed deal with Fulham

Liverpool are hoping to land Fulham's Fabio Carvalho after agreeing terms.

Liverpool are in pursuit of Fabio Carvalho before the Janaury transfer window slams shut - but they have some extra time in which to seal the deal.

The Reds have agreed a deal with Fulham to sign the attacking midfielder.

And with the window the window is set to close at 11pm, the Reds could well have an additional two hours in which to finalise the details of the Fulham attacking midfielder's transfer.

Liverpool have come to an arrangement with the Championship leaders after discussions this evening.

It's despite the 19-year-old out of contract at the end of the season and available on a free transfer. The Reds have moved to secure their man ahead of next season and he's likely to be to Craven Cottage for the remainder of the campaign.

Carvalho, 19, has been magnificent for Fulham this season. He's scored seven goals and recorded a further four assists as they head towards a Premier League return.

With the clock ticking and plenty of paperwork still to be completed, fans might be worrying that a deal looks unlikely.

However, as per EFL and Premier League rules, Jurgen Klopp's side can be given until 1am to complete the deal - providing that the club have submitted a 'Deal Sheet'.

These sheets provide details of the impending transfer and confirm that an agreement has been reached, before providing clubs with extra time in which to submit all the required documentation.

The details required on this sheet are fairly basic and amount to the clubs and player involved and the fee being paid, if there is one.

Deal sheets cannot be requested until 9pm on transfer deadline day and then must be submitted, fully completed, by 11pm.

Once received and approved by the Premier League or EFL, clubs can then be granted permission to submit all the required transfer paperwork by a 1am deadline.

With time running out in the window, Liverpool may have to submit such a sheet to finalise the addition of Carvalho.

The Reds will also be able to sign free agents after the window closes.

Liverpool signed Luis Diaz from Porto for a fee of up to £50 million including add-ons on Sunday.

The right-back has since made 19 appearances for the west London club.

He spent last season on a season-long loan at Bristol City, making 18 appearances for the Championship side.

Quina's loan spell terminated

Domingos Quina has returned to Watford tonight after his loan spell with Fulham was terminated.

The Portuguese playmaker, brought in from Watford in the closing hours of the summer transfer window, had struggled to make an impact at Craven Cottage and made just four appearances for the first team. Marco Silva had criticised the 21 year old's work rate and he failed to complete ninety minutes in a Fulham shirt.

Quina, considered a promising prospect at Vicarage Road, was quickly usurped by club captain Tom Cairney and teenager Fabio Carvalho when the pair returned to full fitness and was deemed surplus to requirements by Silva. Watford were eager for their youngster to gain regular first-team football and he is rumoured to be close to joining the Championship's bottom club Barnsley on loan until the end of the season.

Fabio Carvalho 'agrees five-year deal with Liverpool'

Fulham youngster Fabio Carvalho has reportedly agreed a five-year deal with Liverpool ahead of a late deadline day switch and is now undergoing his medical with the Reds.

The 19-year-old has been on the Reds' radar after enjoying a breakthrough season with the Cottagers, netting seven goals and assisting four more in 18 Championship appearances.

Liverpool reportedly agreed a fee with Fulham for Carvalho late on Monday, with Jurgen Klopp's side facing a race against time to get a deal done before the 11pm deadline.

Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Carvalho is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal with Liverpool and is currently undergoing his Reds medical.

Romano adds that Fulham will retain Carvalho's services on loan for the remainder of the season, with the Cottagers well-placed to secure promotion back to the Premier League.

The former England Under-18 international has 17 goals and 13 assists to his name from 43 games in a Fulham shirt and struck his first Premier League goal against Southampton in May 2021.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool have agreed €10m fee for midfielder

Liverpool have agreed a fee with Fulham for midfielder Fabio Carvalho, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist has claimed on Twitter that the Reds will pay the Championship club €10 million for the 19-year-old's services.

The plan is for Carvalho to sign a five-year deal with Liverpool before midnight (transfer deadline). However, the 19-year-old will be loaned back to Fulham for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign.

Anfield Watch Verdict

We are delighted to hear that Liverpool have agreed terms with Fulham for Carvalho.

The midfielder is a talent. Carvalho has found the back of the net eight times and registered four assists in 25 appearances for Fulham's first-team.

Fulham boss Marco Silva is certainly a fan of the 19-year-old, which further highlights that the Reds are potentially acquiring a solid footballer.

"He's a very good player," Silva told Sky Sports back in September 2021, as quoted by OneFootball.

"I don't want to compare him to other young players I have worked with, because I have worked at clubs - like Sporting in Portugal - which have amazing academies and players that were the same age as Fabio.

"But I can say he has very good quality for the age he is, and some maturity for a player that has only just turned 19. He moved countries at a young age and had to adapt to life in England, but that has helped him grow and develop.

"He comes in every day with a smile on his face to work. He enjoys his time on the training ground, but he works really hard too.

"He understands what I want from him. It is up to him to keep working hard, and it is up to me to keep developing him as a player, because he has the talent."

We look forward to watching Carvalho represent Liverpool's first-team in the future (providing the deal goes through). On another note, we wish the youngster all the best for the remainder of the Championship season.

Liverpool's Fabio Carvalho deal 'will fall through' if key condition of agreement can't be fulfilled – Kevin Palmer

Liverpool's move for Fabio Carvalho could be set to take another dramatic turn, with it being reported that the move could be derailed.

The agreement between the Reds and Fulham remains entirely dependent on the loan deal going through before the deadline, as reported by Sunday World journalist, Kevin Palmer.

The Merseysiders had agreed on a £7.5m deal to take the Englishman to Merseyside beyond the remainder of the season, with the Cottagers' looking to seal a promotion to the English top-flight.

To come so close to the signing, with a fee agreed, would be incredibly cruel after long talks between ourselves and the London-based outfit.

It seems set to all come down to a potential accepted submission of a deal extension sheet, which would allow us to get the potential transfer over the line.

With the player reportedly keen on the move and there being a clear sign of intentions from both clubs, one would have to imagine that common sense will prevail.

Carvalho deal collapses

Fabio Carvalho's proposed £10m move to Liverpool is off after they failed to submit the necessary paperwork in time, according to reports this evening.

Protracted negotiations between the Premier League outfit and Fulham appeared to have ended in an agreement earlier tonight but Liverpool have failed to sort all the formalities before the 11pm deadline. It leaves the talented teenager in limbo with Liverpool reporting not keen on going to tribunal for a Fulham youngster again after their experience with Harvey Elliott two summers ago.

NO DEAL: Liverpool's Fabio Carvalho transfer collapses – but could still happen

Liverpool's late deal for Fulham youngster Fabio Carvalho has fallen through, despite a fee being agreed between the two clubs.

Minutes after Monday's transfer deadline passed at 11pm, it was reported that the deal collapsed due to the Football League not having any deal sheets for the loan back agreement.

Liverpool had earlier bid £5 million for the 19-year-old and a fee was said to have been agreed between the two clubs late on Monday evening, presumably above that figure.

However, as explained by journalist David Lynch, Liverpool are now hoping to reach an agreement to sign Fabio Carvalho when his contract expires in the summer.

He explains: "Fulham will be due compensation for developing the player but, if the two clubs can agree a fee, they can avoid going through a tribunal process."

It had earlier been agreed for Liverpool to sign the highly-rated attacking midfielder and loan him back to Fulham for the rest of this season.

It was also speculated that the deal may involve right-back Neco Williams heading in the opposite direction, also on loan, but that too hasn't materialised.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano further claims that the player had had his medical but the paperwork was not completed in time.

A solution will now be sought for the summer when the player is out of contract.

And The Athletic reporter James Pearce adds that there is still a good chance he moves to Liverpool in the summer, with the player very keen on the chance to work with Jurgen Klopp.

The Echo's Paul Gorst adds, similarly saying that he still expects Liverpool to sign Carvalho.

While this is clearly a blow for now, it does appear that the transfer of the prodigious player will eventually happen one way or another.

Liverpool and Fulham had been keen to avoid a tribunal for the player, as had happened with Harvey Elliott and the two clubs will now work to reach an agreement in order to avoid that process.

The player will now continue to focus on helping Fulham to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

Liverpool end the January transfer window with Luis Diaz as their only addition, with the Colombian arriving for an initial £37.5 million.

The Reds return to action on Sunday, in the FA Cup, against Cardiff City at Anfield.

Liverpool handed hammer Fabio Carvalho blow as Barcelona, Real Madrid and Dortmund now have one huge advantage

Liverpool were unable to get a deal over the line for Fulham' Fabio Carvalho.

Liverpool have missed out on an 11th-hour January transfer deadline day swoop for Fabio Carvalho.

The Reds were unable to get a deal over the line for the Fulham attacking midfielder.

Jurgen Klopp's men were looking to recruit Carvalho before the window shut at 11pm this evening.

However, the move has collapsed as paperwork could not be completed in time.

As a result, he will remain at the Championship leaders for the rest of the season.

Carvalho, 19, has been in rampant form for the Cottagers this term, having scored seven goals and recorded four assists.

The England youth international is out of contract in the summer and looks set to to depart the west London outfit.

Liverpool were hoping to tie up a move so they could fend off any potential suitors who'll be circling.

However, clubs across Europe who might be interested now have been handed the advantage in the race for the starlet's signature.

Carvalho is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside of England.

Fulham would only receive a compensation fee and the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have been linked.

Given how far Liverpool got down the line with Carvalho, though, he may still have his heart set on Anfield regardless.

He's watched his former Fulham under-18s team-mate flourish for the Reds and will be acutely aware first-team opportunities are there for him.

Odoi Departs

We can confirm that Denis Odoi has departed the Club after five-and-a-half years of excellent service.

He returns to his native Belgium to join Club Brugge for an undisclosed fee.

Denis arrived in SW6 ahead of the 2016/17 season and made an immediate impression on the Fulham faithful with a stunning piece of skill on his debut against Newcastle United, using his back to control the ball and beat his man.

Odoi played 33 times in his maiden campaign in London as the Whites reached the Championship Play-Off Semi-Finals, before playing an even more significant role as we won promotion the following year.

The versatile defender made 43 appearances as we returned to the Premier League, and certainly had an eventful Play-Off campaign.

His header in the Second Leg against Derby County will forever live in the memory of those present as one of the great Craven Cottage moments, but he had a long 20 minutes in the Wembley dressing room after being sent off in the Final!

When the whistle went, Odoi led the celebrations, famously clambering atop the crossbar in front of the White Wall.

Odoi continued to rack up the appearances in the Premier League, before playing a key role as we won the Play-Offs again in 2019/20, coming off the bench in each leg against Cardiff City, before playing 110 minutes of the Final against Brentford.

Run-outs were not as frequent back in the top flight, but Odoi has been a regular again this time around, sharing the right-back slot with Kenny Tete and contributing plenty at both ends of the pitch.

An ultimate professional, Odoi always gave 100 per cent regardless of his role in the team, while his efforts off the pitch in supporting the Fulham Foundation have been overwhelming.

The definition of a cult hero, Odoi departs having played 177 times, scoring seven goals and laying on eight assists.

Everyone at Fulham would like to thank Denis for his monumental efforts during his time at the Club, and we look forward to welcoming him back at Craven Cottage any time.

"Denis has been a key player in our squad since he arrived in the summer of 2016, and he's been part of some great moments at the Club over the years," Tony Khan said.

"It's been a tough decision, but one that is good for Denis and his future, and I know he'll be a success at Club Brugge.

"I want to thank Denis for his commitment to the Club and for his friendship, he'll be missed!"

Sylvester Jasper Joins On Loan!

We are delighted to announce the signing of pacey winger Sylvester Jasper on loan from English Championship side Fulham!

The 20-year-old has joined us for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign, and we also have an option to sign him permanently in the summer.

The quick, tricky winger becomes a Hibee after shining over the last two campaigns. For Fulham U23, he bagged eight goals in just 16 Premier League 2 appearances before catching the eye in his first professional loan at English League Two side Colchester United earlier this season.

Jasper, who's good with both feet, has also made three professional appearances for Fulham with his debut coming against Manchester City in the FA Cup.

Alongside this, he's earned two caps for Bulgaria's Under-21s playing against the Netherlands and Moldova.

Operating behind the striker on either side, Jasper adds an extra creative spark to Shaun Maloney's squad.

On the arrival of the Bulgarian youth international, our Manager Shaun Maloney, commented:

"Sylvester is a talented young player that possesses a lot of creativity and speed. He gives us extra options and can play on both the left and right in attacking areas.

"My staff and I are looking forward to working with him and welcoming him to the club."

Jasper joins Hibernian on loan

Fulham winger Sylvester Jasper has joined Scottish Premier League side Hibernian on loan for the rest of the season.

The 20 year-old, who spent the first part of this campaign with Colchester United, moves to Easter Road to gain further first-team football and Hibs hold an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. Jasper, who earned two caps for Bulgaria's under-21 side earlier this year, has made three senior appearances for the Whites and scored three times in 24 appearances during a successful stint with the U's before Christmas.

Hibs boss Shaun Maloney said: "Sylvester is a talented young player that possesses a lot of creativity and speed. He gives us extra options and can play on both the left and right in attacking areas. My staff and I are looking forward to working with him and welcoming him to the club."

Williams Arrives On Loan

The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Neco Williams on loan from Liverpool.

An attacking right-back, Williams will remain at Craven Cottage for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Tony Khan said: "Neco is a great young talent and I'm delighted to welcome him to Fulham for the rest of the season.

"It's important, especially with Denis now leaving the Club, to bring in a player of Neco's quality to ensure the strength of the squad."

The 20-year-old arrives in SW6 having featured this season in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup for the Reds, and World Cup Qualifiers for Wales.

Born in Wrexham, Williams joined Liverpool at Under-9 level, progressing through their academy before making his senior breakthrough in 2019/20, a season that ended with him getting a Premier League winner's medal.

He already has 17 senior caps for Wales, in which he's scored twice, and featured in every one of their matches at last summer's European Championship.
