We must beat Preston to be promoted. Anyone else recall when had to beat them last game of the season to win a league in front of 25,000?

Only too well. Was at University in the north at the time and came down with a good mate who was a PNE supporter. It was a long journey back to Liverpool 😡

20th Jan '73, the Thames Bank Travellers coach ran out of diesel on the M1 on the way back, I left it in an ambulance to have my appendix removed in the West Midlands hospital, discharge myself to get home for the following Saturday, sat in the Riverside (our new stand!) for the first time and we beat Brighton 5-0, every goal hurt my stitches. We had beaten Preston 3-0 and every goal doubled me up in pain.
Happy memories😁

We fans were ready to lift the roof off the Cottager but Ricky Heppolite's goal sent us all home subdued.... :016:
