CCN Man of the year: Chris Baird

Filed under: General — rich @ 3:18 pm

Chris Baird must be a manager's dream.    Europa League Final right back; Europa League group stage centre back (remember his work with Chris Smalling?); left back of last resort; centre midfielder of some ability (remember Juventus?).  He does whatever the club needs him to do, and does it well.

Those two goals at Stoke were a nice reward for his efforts in 2010 (and that raking long ball to Damien Duff at Spurs a nice reminder that the lad can't half pass, too).

Fair shout on that :clap_hands:
Nah, I've heard he's very average in goal.   :dft012:

We are lucky to have such a versatile, patient player such as Baird  :Sparkyticus:

and I have never seen the lad dog it, or pull out of a challenge. Pure class, and a good reminder that the player everyone slags off for the better part of a season and a half just might be a lot better than everyone thinks.

Is Fulham's Chris Baird the worst player in the Premier League?

It's sort of a rhetorical question, because to my mind he is definitely the worst player in the top flight. I've seen him in the flesh a couple of times this season and he's been truly shite, of a standard you'd expect of players in League One or worse. Quite why Lawrie Sanchez bought him, and for a silly £3m, is a mystery to me – well, not a total mystery given that Baird has played for Sanchez for Northern Ireland.
Baird has almost nothing going for him, bar fitness. He can't pass, can't tackle properly and his positional awareness is dreadful. He's also a shortarse. Oh, and he's uglier than Gary Neville.
